SAN FRANCISCO — With the APEC Summit over, San Francisco’s cleaned-up image has started to fade, one business owner said.

“The basic principle of life is to keep the body moving — your arms and your legs,” said Tenderloin restaurant owner Tony Pankaew.

Owning a business just off of U.N. Plaza does keep Tony Pankaew moving.

“I just had to put the glue on,” he said of one broken window. “I can’t keep claiming the insurance.”

As for the recent push to calm and clean the plaza, he said it worked.

“Yeah, they cleaned up the people, they cleaned up the street to make the city look good, and look impressive for the foreigners, for the politicians,” Pankaew said.

ALSO READ: San Francisco businesses see slow return to normal after APEC

A few days later, he said many of those problems have started to return.

“And now, now they’ll start coming back,” he added. “Slowly, but surely, in a couple weeks, they’ll be back to where they were before.”

“They made a big push for it during Covid, to get people housed,” said Jeff, who has been living on the streets, off and on. “A lot of people were into it. And then they started doing it again, where they’re really trying to get people into SROs.”

Jeff, who has been accepting help from the city, puts the recent changes in a broader context, and he thinks months of work is starting to show some results.

“It looks like they have made somewhat of a dent in it,” he said. “I think. If you’ve been out here you notice, it’s gotten a lot better with that kind of thing.”

Pankaew is hopeful that some of the changes stick and bring more customers. Giving up, he said, is not an option.

“I have to keep going,” he said. “With the hope that it’s going to turn around.”

So, some changes, like the revamped plaza, will stay. Others, like that huge law-enforcement presence, that is all winding down.

The big question now is what will carry over.

Chicago Bears (no change)

The Patriots are struggling. They earned just a 52.3 team passing grade and generated the fewest expected points added (EPA) per play (-0.72) on offense in Week 5. They were successful on only 17.6% of their plays, the lowest rate in the league.

The Bears generated a league-leading 0.27 EPA per play on offense in Week 5, with the offense also ranking first in receiving yards after the catch per reception (10.4). Wide receiver D.J. Moore put up a 92.8 receiving grade, the best mark of his season, thanks to a massive three-touchdown and 230-yard game.

The Commanders called 55 consecutive pass plays from early in the second quarter until the end of the game — a PFF record — racking up a league-high 378 passing yards in the process. However, it still wasn’t enough to save themselves from falling to the Bears at home.

We’re also reaching the part of the season when injuries start to pile up. Players such as Justin Jefferson, De’Von Achane and Travis Kelce are now dealing with injuries, so we hope these players and their teams bounce back quickly.

Biggest Riser: Indianapolis Colts

Despite losing quarterback Anthony Richardson mid-game again, the Colts got another win to improve to 3-2. The offensive line looks much improved, with all starters ranking in the top 25% at their respective positions in PFF grade.

While the injury to Richardson certainly hurts, Gardner Minshew is one of the game’s better backups and has posted PFF grades near the 70s in his limited time paired with now-head coach Shane Steichen.

Biggest Faller: New York Giants

It has been tough sledding for the Giants, who are riding a three-game losing streak heading into Week 6. The offensive line has been a train wreck — no lineman has graded above 52.0, and the starting tackles currently rank second- and third-worst at the position.

The result is that Daniel Jones has been sacked 31 times, and the Giants are generating the second-fewest EPA per play on offense. Entering Week 6, they have a 10% chance of picking first overall in the 2024 NFL Draft and a 48% chance of picking in the top five.

WAR Lost to Injuries

Note: At the time this graphic was created, De’Von Achane and Tyreek Hill were listed as active.

Von Miller played only 20 snaps against the Jaguars, but he is back from injury nonetheless. Miller has graded above 85.0 in nine of his 11 seasons as a pro and is quite easily one of the best pass-rushers in modern NFL history. Look for him to make an impact with Matt Milano and DaQuan Jones likely out for the rest of the season.

As if Minnesota’s season couldn’t get any worse, Justin Jefferson suffered a hamstring injury in Week 5 and has since been placed on the injured reserve. The team now needs rookie Jordan Addison (65.1 PFF grade), K.J. Osborn (51.6) and Brandon Powell (70.0 on 28 snaps) to step up in a big way.

The Vikings face the 49ers in two weeks, a tough matchup even with the star pass-catcher in the lineup. According to PFF Greenline, they have had the fourth-hardest schedule to date, but they have the 15th-hardest schedule the rest of the way.

PFF’s Best Bets Tool uses PFF data to uncover the biggest edges in the betting market.
Dolphins offensive tackle Isaiah Wynn (-0.05 WAR) suffered a neck injury against the Giants in Week 5. While he has not performed well this season, grading negatively on more than 28% of his snaps, the Dolphins are thin along the offensive line. On top of that, Miami also lost De’Von Achane to a knee injury. His backups, Raheem Mostert and Salvon Ahmed, should be able to carry his workload in a scheme that is extraordinarily favorable to the position.

The Cardinals’ leading rusher, James Conner, left last week’s game with a knee injury. The team’s backups have not done much so far this season, with quarterback Joshua Dobbs coming behind Conner in rushing yards.

Late-Down Decision-Making

The graphic above shows how teams have fared in terms of EPA per play when they go for it on fourth downs. Ironically, the Buccaneers have gone for it the least of any team but have been incredibly successful when they have gone for it.

The Vikings were aggressive on fourth downs in Week 5, going for it five times. On the year, they’re third in the league in EPA per play on fourth downs at 1.52.

The Raiders’ win against the Packers was not due to their aggressiveness on fourth down. They punted four times and kicked three field goals, two of which were unsuccessful.

Game Finishers

Note: This graphic includes overtime.

It’s been difficult for teams to stop the 49ers and the Eagles at any time in the game, as you can see above. On top of that, the Eagles defense does not allow their opponents to score often. Through five weeks, 68.6% of their opponents’ drives have ended in no points.

The Patriots offense is reaching a decades-long low point. Belichick’s squad ranks last in the league in EPA per play in both the first and second half.

This week, the Colts led the league in second-half EPA per play (0.35) against the Titans. As they continue to increase RB Jonathan Taylor’s reps, look for him to make a significant impact. Indy hasn’t been very successful at converting drives, but last week, the team finished sixth in successful drive rate at 50%.

The Trenches

The Saints move up in this metric after an excellent performance against the Patriots on both sides of the ball. Center Erik McCoy was the highest-graded offensive lineman this week (94.4), while the Saints defensive line finished top-five in pressures (16), pressure rate (39.4%) and pass-rush grade (79.6).

Although the Cowboys offensive line usually protects the quarterback well, they struggled this week, allowing pressure on 56.7% of their passing snaps. They posted the worst pass-blocking grade of their season as a result (28.3).

Defensive Success

The Dolphins defense has not been otherwordly this season, but it was successful against the Giants in Week 5. They allowed -0.113 EPA per play, the seventh-best mark in the league. Defensive tackle Christian Wilkins earned a season-best 92.0 pass-rush grade and won one-third of his reps.

Aidan Hutchinson continues to perform at a high level and earned a career-best 94.1 overall grade in Week 5. The rest of the Lions pass rush as a whole is fairly average, however, as the unit ranks 19th in pass-rush grade through Week 5.

Although the Broncos defense has struggled this season, they have a few bright spots. Alex Singleton posted a 79.9 run-defense grade this week, fifth among linebackers. Defensive end Zach Allen earned an 80.8 pass-rush grade that ranked sixth.

Perfectly Covering Plays

Kyle Shanahan’s offense is moving further away from the pack when it comes to forcing broken coverage on offense.

After a hot start, Mike McDaniel’s offense has cooled down a little bit, but he is still one of the best play-callers in terms of scheming open players, and it helps to have the dynamic duo of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.

On the other end of the spectrum, Matt Canada and Eric Bienemy’s offenses haven’t been that good at forcing coverage mistakes, with both ranking at the bottom of the league in this metric.

Sustaining Drives on Offense

The Rams took the throne from the Bills as the top team at avoiding three-and-outs so far this season. They were able to get past that first series pretty consistently against the Eagles but stalled after that due to bad pass protection from the offensive line.

The Cardinals also fell closer to the league average this week after finishing in second place in this metric in Week 4.

Take a stroll down Montgomery Street in San Francisco’s Financial District during a weeknight and you’re not likely to see sights common in other more suburban neighborhoods: people walking their dogs or ushering their broods of children into buildings while weighted down with grocery bags filled with dinner fixings.

That’s partially because, despite the downtown area seeing a notable increase in housing units in recent years, there is seemingly low demand when units hit the market.

Data from the real estate listing database MLS shows that, since 2018, for the three ZIP codes that cover the Financial District and the areas north and south of it, units tended to spend more days on the market than in other parts of the city, and sell for a lower median list price.

Those ZIP codes are 94108, which covers a swath of California Street, Nob Hill and Chinatown down to Market Street; 94104, which is bounded by Market Street to the south and Kearney and Battery to the west and east; and 94105, which covers the area south of Market Street running to the Embarcadero and stretching south toward Oracle Park.

In 2018, properties in the Financial District area sold for a median price of $1.2 million, despite listing for a median of $1.3 million. They also spent more than twice the median days on the market, compared to units that sold throughout the city that year.

Units listed in 2019 and 2020 in that area also were more likely to sell for below their original list price, and spent a median of 62 and 70 days on the market, respectively. That was compared to a median 17 days on the market citywide in 2019, and 22 days in 2020.

In 2021, the median sale price of $1.15 million inch closer to the median list price of $1.24 million in the downtown area, although listings spent on the market about the same at 69 days compared to 16 citywide.

iframe title=”Median number of days on the market, for residential units downtown and citywide” aria-label=”Split Bars” id=”datawrapper-chart-h9y9i” src=”https://datawrapper.dwcdn.net/h9y9i /1/” scrolling=”no” frameborder=”0″ style=”width: 0; min-width: 100% !important; border: none;” height=”277″>

Part of the reason why, industry experts suggest, is because single-family homes remain the most desirable and overbid properties in San Francisco.

“The majority of these (downtown) places, almost all of them are condos,” said Adam Brinklow of Front Steps San Francisco Real Estate, who provided the MLS data. “Over the last 10 years single family homes have been the huge driver” and in the highest demand, especially for people looking to raise a family in the city.

Which tends to be why many people who live in the downtown core are middle aged and older, established professionals who have already raised a family. People like John Dunlap, who has lived in a building at Third and Market for four-and-half years.

Dunlap said his building has been home to professional athletes, Trump and Biden administration appointees, banking executives and other established types, along with some families.

The proximity to museums and cultural institutions like the Mechanics Institute, bike rides along the Embarcadero and transit make it a more than comfortable location, Dunlap said.

While housing remains scarce in parts of the downtown core, compared to other areas of San Francisco, it has been increasing.

The area dubbed “Downtown” by The San Francisco Planning Department — roughly bounded by Van Ness Avenue, Market Street, and Sacramento Street running to the Embarcadero — saw a net increase of 8.7% in housing units between 2010 and 2021.

The area roughly bounded by Kearny and Market streets, Pacific Avenue and the Embarcadero that comprises the Downtown Community Benefit district has about 350 units spread across 11 locations, said the nonprofit group’s director Robbie Silver.

Despite the tight squeeze in one of the oldest areas of the city, the 8.7% increase was one of the highest rates in the city.

Of the city’s 15 planning districts plus the Presidio, Treasure Island and Golden Gate Park area, downtown came in fourth in net gains in housing units during the past decade, behind only the Richmond District, South of Market and the Northeast chunk of the city that includes North Beach, Chinatown and Fisherman’s Wharf.

The South of Market area came in second with a 9.4% net increase in units, much of that in the form of high rise towers like the 392 unit condo complex Mira SF on Folsom Street, and the nearby Lumina tower at 201 Folsom Street

Garrett Frakes of real estate sales and marketing firm Polaris Pacific said much of the condo and rental market near downtown is focused on that area south of Market Street that sweeps from near the Embarcadero and going south to the ballpark.

There are, “a series of very significant both rental and condo towers that enjoy the lifestyle of the waterfront and retail opportunities,” he said.

But after the recent completion of the Mira tower, there aren’t many more new units coming on the market in that area, Frakes said.

“Construction is just not moving forward,” he said, attributing that to rising construction costs among other issues.

Nearby, the area most San Franciscans think of as South of Market — what Frakes described as low-rise streets lined with Muffler shops and tech companies — has some housing stock, including lots of rental properties.

Units in that area lost around 30% of their value during the pandemic, said Paul Griffiths, CEO of Vesta Asset Management. That has climbed back by about half and units are mostly full again, Griffiths said, but rents are still below what they were compared to markets in more residential parts of the city.

Back in the downtown core, the 8.7% increase over the past decade equated to more than 35,000 units of housing.

More people living in downtown, or adjacent to it, would fit with Mayor London Breed’s plan to urge more people, including office workers, to spend more time in the area. But while other major metro areas have seen the number of people swiping into office settings increase, San Francisco has lagged behind.

Silver and his group have focused on putting on events and drawing people to the area after the offices shutter to give it more of a neighborhood feel and hurry the district’s revival. More people living there might help move the area in that direction, but for Dunlap, who already lives there, the neighborhood feel isn’t hard to find.

“After hours there’s a lot going on,” he said, noting the plentiful selection of restaurants and small shops tucked away in places like Maiden Lane along with their buildings’ architectural flourishes.

“I would welcome more residents and more housing down there,” to give the area more a neighborhood feel and voice in the city, Dunlap said. “If buildings are going to be no longer used for business or office reasons … there’s no reason that they should be languish.”

As the Denver Nuggets gathered inside Ball Arena in front of a TV to rewatch the film of their horrendous Game 2 loss to the Golden State Warriors, they saw what everyone else who witnessed that game saw.

“We just had a look over that film and it was pretty ugly watching that,” Austin Rivers said after practice on Wednesday afternoon.

To anyone watching or participating in the series so far, it is obvious that very little has gone well for the Nuggets. That is why their odds of winning the series is +1040 according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Denver’s head coach Michael Malone was quick to point out a few very specific figures as to why the series against Golden State has gone so awry for Denver in the first two matchups.

“The points off turnovers – 23 (points) a game – 18 transition points per game, 44 (points) from the 3-point line and we are putting them on the foul line 27 times a game,” Malone stated after practice on Wednesday afternoon. “Taking all of that to the side, the intangibles; we have to play a lot harder and we have to be a lot more physical when we are out there.”

“They are just the aggressors and we are just laying down,” JaMychal Green said when reflecting on the Nuggets two losses to begin the series.

The frustration of so much going wrong for Denver in the first two games of the first round bubbled to the surface and boiled over in Game 2. The reigning Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic was ejected from the game for getting two technical fouls assessed to him and there was a verbal altercation between DeMarcus Cousins and Will Barton III on the bench that grabbed the attention of many.

Still, despite the emotional loss in Game 2, the Nuggets did not splinter. They stayed together and refocused. When asked about the frustration of the first two games and the infighting on the bench in Game 2, all three of Austin Rivers, JaMychal Green, and Malone were in lock-step with their answers.

“That shit happens. It is part of basketball,” Green said. “We are competitive, but at the end of the day we are a unit, we are a team, and we are brothers. So we are going to go out there and fight to win at home.”

“Sometimes that happens,” Rivers said. “Guys play with passion, the game is not going our way and we are losing badly, and some guys are frustrated. Everybody means well so sometimes when things are said, it is all in the heat of the moment so sometimes it happens. It lasted five minutes and guys were over it. It was all just out of frustration and wanting to do better. That is kind of what the first two games were like for us; it just did not go our way and there are things we have to clean up as players.”

“That was out of the system before we got on the plane in Golden State,” Malone said. “No one likes to lose and no one likes to get embarrassed. The frustration came from a good place. We handled that internally and we are moving forward.

“We are together, we are fine, we have moved past that, and we will go into the game tomorrow night as one unified team. There is no hangover from what happened in that game.”

With that out of the way, the Nuggets headed into a day of rest and recovery after the loss before practicing on Wednesday morning and into the afternoon.

“The mood was frustration, but it was good energy,” Malone said when asked about how the mood of the practice was. “We got something out of it.”

“I think guys understand we are down 2-0. My message is simply that they did what they were supposed to do. They won two at home and now we are coming home and we have a chance to get back in the series by protecting our home court. We are only going to do that if we change how we are playing.”

One of the biggest adjustments Malone wants to see from his team is limiting the Warriors avalanche-like runs. Denver has been obliterated by just a run or two in each game that has left them completely disoriented and discombobulated.

“The games have been decided in two second-quarter runs; 44-12 if you combine the ends of the second quarters from Games 1 and 2,” Malone said. “We just have a hard time recovering from that.”

That is why Malone made sure to set aside time at practice to specifically key in on diagnosing how and why these runs are occurring. Denver has made mistakes to stimulate these runs and dissecting exactly what those mistakes are could dramatically improve Denver’s chances of avoiding those runs by the Warriors.

“We watched some of the runs they have had against us to look at why we are allowing those big runs,” Malone said. “We are compounding it; they are scoring, we are coming down not getting organized and not executing and not getting the best shot we can get, and now you are fueling a scary team offensively. We have seen that in the first two games and hopefully we can find a way to be a lot more effective and efficient come Game 3.”

In Green’s eyes, he thinks Denver is also trying to play at the Warriors ideal pace of play; not the nuggets. Focusing on playing at the speed Denver wants to play at should help minimize how effortlessly these Warriors runs have felt.

“Once they get on a run, we cannot play almost like they do. We have to slow it down, run some sets and get back into the game,” he said. “We have to crawl our way back in and sometimes I feel we try to play their game and that is not our game.”

Still, while stopping those seemingly unstoppable rushes is only part of the equation. Denver also needs to find a way to help Jokic on the offensive end of the floor.

“Other guys have to step up. Draymond Green is literally not guarding anybody,” Malone pointed out. “He is playing free safety out there and so we have to, and players he is guarding, have to find a way to be effective and make them pay for doing that. Until we do, it is going to be hard for Nikola to go off when he has three guys around him and they are saying we are going to make one of your other guys beat us. That is going to be a big, big key for us getting back into the series is having that next player step up and have that big game.”

The one player who Denver needs significantly more production from is Aaron Gordon, who is averaging just 7.5 points per game on 31.6% shooting from the field. Malone is aware the Nuggets need to find a way to get him going and he also made sure to prioritize time on Wednesday at practice to get with his coaching Staff and Gordon to find ways to get him into an offensive rhythm.

“We talked with Aaron today about different ways we can counter how they are guarding him and how he can not only help himself, but if they are not going to guard him, he can also help his teammates a lot as well,” Malone said . “Obviously we are not going to get into what those things are but for me I think it starts with an aggression level. Be aggressive.”

While getting Jamal Murray back from his ACL tear would be a massive boost, it does not appear to be imminent. When Malone was asked about Murray after practice, this is what he had to say.

“It’s killing him,” Malone said about Murray having to watch from the bench. “Once again, you go back to the 19 playoff games in the bubble – his last playoff experience – and he averaged 27 points a game, six or seven assists, five or six rebounds, and he did so shooting 50% from the field and Damn near 50% from three. Yes, it is killing him to not be out there and help us. If you look at their team, they have a three-headed monster in Poole, Curry and Klay. Right now, obviously, Jamal would be a welcomed addition with his playoff experience and how well he plays in the playoffs. He mentioned to me how it is really kind of driving him crazy that he is not able to go out there and help his teammates out.”

When Malone was asked if Murray went through practice today, he said, “yeah, but we didn’t do anything live.

“He was out there helping us out, but he is not going to be playing tomorrow night.”

So with no Murray in Game 3, what can the Nuggets do to control the game in a way they have failed to in Games 1 and 2? The consensus opinion among the Nuggets roster and coaching staff comes down to Denver’s willingness to be physical and aggressive.

“I think when you have two talented teams…the most aggressive team is going to win,” Malone said. “They have been the most aggressive team. They have been the more physical team.

“Until that changes, we have no chance in hell of winning a game in this series.”

Green echoed Malone’s sentiment as well.

“We need everybody to set a tone,” Green said. “We need everybody to go out there, be physical, and hit somebody. We cannot be the ones getting hit. We cannot be the ones crying and asking for fouls. We need to go and play through all of that.”

The Nuggets fully believe they can still win this series and that it just comes down to their own level of execution and urgency. Everyone on the roster knows this and is prepared for what is ahead because they know what the outcome will be if they do not play with the requisite desperation.

“Are we desperate? Well, we better play desperate,” Malone said. “We have to have a desperation and urgency about us tomorrow night or we will be down 3-0.”

Both Green and Rivers believe the team is ready for this challenge and that the Nuggets are embracing it.

“We got fighters and we are not quitters so until it is over with, we won’t stop fighting,” Green said.

“No one is down right now,” Rivers said. “I have been down 0-2 plenty of times in my career and came back but you have to win Game 3. This is a must-win for us. We know that. We cannot go down 3-0 so we are not going to sugarcoat it either. We do not want to be in this situation, but we are here, you know what I mean?

“You win one game and it is a series. That is all you can do. We have home court next game, we play tomorrow and we need to go get that ‘W’.”

More than 95% of the city of San Francisco’s employees are fully vaccinated, the San Francisco Department of Public Health said Friday.

The deadline for city workers to get their syringes is November 1, but some agencies working in high-risk environments, such as the San Francisco Police Department and the San Francisco Fire Department, have required that staff be fully completed by Wednesday are vaccinated.

A total of 1,443 of the city’s approximately 35,000 employees remain unvaccinated, which is only 5% of the workforce. In San Francisco as a whole, 75% of residents are fully vaccinated while 80% received at least one dose.

Of SFPD in particular, around 5% of employees, including 76 police officers, remain unvaccinated. SFPD has 2,117 employees. 35 fire brigade workers and 39 sheriff workers are also unvaccinated. The FDF did not immediately provide a further breakdown by department.

Employees who do not get vaccinated on time will be put on paid administrative leave until the start of the regular hearing, the SFDPH said. Further hearings will decide whether the unvaccinated person’s employment relationship will be terminated.

The SFDPH allows employees with certain religious beliefs or medical problems to apply for waivers from the vaccination order. So far, around 800 vaccine exemption applications have been made.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has presented the city, its employees and residents with unprecedented challenges,” said the SFDPH. “To protect the health and safety of citizens and employees, the city has issued its vaccination guidelines.”

SANTA CLARA (AP) – With the San Francisco 49ers stuck in a four-game losing streak and starter Jimmy Garoppolo having the worst game of his career, coach Kyle Shanahan is still unwilling to make a quarterback move – even if rookie Trey Lance is healthy.

Garoppolo flipped the ball three times and struggled to move the offensive for most of Sunday night’s 30:18 loss to the Indianapolis Colts but will remain the starter when the Niners travel to Chicago this week.

CONTINUE READING: Santa Rosa neighbors blame town for creek overflows, house floods and forced evacuations

“We didn’t go into this game because we thought Jimmy was just one bad game away from losing his job or something,” Shanahan said on Monday. “Jimmy didn’t play as well as he could. He knows it. I know that. I think it’s been pretty tough for him, for both quarterbacks, considering the weather. I definitely thought he could have played better. But this wasn’t a game where Jimmy will lose his job if he has a bad game.

Shanahan still called Lance the future of the Niners (2-4), but when the future will come is unknown. San Francisco gave three first-round picks this spring to create Lance third overall, and he played a handful of snaps before taking over against Seattle at halftime on October 3 when Garoppolo left with a calf injury.

Lance showed some positive signs on his only start the following week in Arizona but was inconsistent when throwing the ball and then sprained his left knee. He missed last week, but should at least return to training on Wednesday to a limited extent and could be deployed in a situational role.

Shanahan is getting hot as the Niners battle it out into its fifth season. San Francisco has won a season since Shanahan’s arrival and went to the Super Bowl in 2019.

He had excuses early on: an exhausted squad when he arrived and injuries in 2018 and 2020. This year would be different. Shanahan understands the current criticism.

“We’re 4-2 here, we’ve lost four games in a row that I think we all won and that’s where you want to start,” he said. “You want the chance to win every game you find yourself in. … We have to find a way to win some of those tight games that we lost. “

WHAT WORKS

First drive. The Niners put together a formidable, scripted opening move that moved 78 yards in eight games to score on Elijah Mitchell’s 14-yard run. San Francisco used rollouts and bootlegs to great success in this possession, but fought offensively for the remainder of the game. The 49ers either failed a first down or turned over nine of their last 10 drives without a one-play sack to end the game.

WHAT NEEDS HELP

Secondary. The Niners allowed Carson Wentz two deep passes in the field in wet conditions and again struggled to defend properly. San Francisco incurred five pass interference penalties, with Emmanuel Moseley caught twice and Josh Norman, Jaquiski Tartt and K’Waun Williams each caught once.

Three of these penalties were accepted for 97 yards and helped set up two TDs.

CONTINUE READING: The mayor of Los Gatos warns residents to stop harassing council meetings

“We gave them way too many explosive freebies,” Shanahan said.

For the season, the Niners have imposed 14 league-high pass interference penalties, including three that have been denied or equalized. The 11 penalties accepted have earned the opponents 250 yards, most in the league.

INCREASE

Mitchell. The rookie ran 107 yards on 18 carries, making him the only player alongside Derrick Henry to have a 100-yard game against Indianapolis in the last four regular seasons. Mitchell has already played two 100-yard games this season, making him the first Niners rookie to have multiple 100-yard rushing games since Billy Kilmer made it three times in 1961.

Stock

Brandon Aiyuk. After his 60 catches for 748 yards as a rookie in 2020, he’s been a sideline all season. He was targeted once at a 6-yard reception on Sunday, had a 3-yard run, and narrowly avoided disaster when he kicked the ball backwards into his own end zone after throwing a punt. The game was rightly decided a touchback. Aiyuk has only nine catches for 96 yards this season.

INJURIES

S Jaquiski Tartt (knee) will be absent for a few weeks. … DE Dee Ford, LB Aziz Al-Shaair are both on the concussion log. … CB Moseley left the game with a back injury, but should be okay. … Shanahan hopes LT Trent Williams can return after missing a game with an ankle injury.

KEY NUMBER

120. The Niners have made 120 rallies under Shanahan in more than four seasons, including four on Sunday. That’s seven of Tampa Bay’s NFL-worst 127 in the range. The turnovers have resulted in 397 points for the opponent – the most allowed by a team since 2017.

NEXT STEPS

The 49ers visit Chicago on Sunday.

Nearly 190 San Francisco police and firefighters were still not completely unvaccinated hours before the midnight deadline for these city workers to shoot.

Police Chief Bill Scott told the Police Commission on Wednesday evening that 118 sworn police officers – 5% of all sworn officers – remain unvaccinated and 61 are partially vaccinated. Another 31 non-sworn employees are unvaccinated and 11 partially vaccinated.

A spokesman for the police department said Thursday morning that the numbers are “likely” to change, but has not yet been able to give an exact number. It was not immediately clear how many had not reported their vaccination status, which was also required by the deadline.

The police have 2,835 employees, including 2,122 officers.

That is compared to the fire brigade, where 39 employees had not received any shots by Thursday. Everyone got in touch. This department has 1,788 employees.

San Francisco police and firefighters had to be fully vaccinated by 11:59 p.m. Wednesday evening – that is, 14 days had passed since their last vaccination.

According to the city’s human resources department, police and fire fighters who have not been vaccinated will be notified immediately by human resources that they will no longer be able to do their jobs until they are vaccinated. You will be put on paid leave until your case comes to the police or the fire brigade.

The commissions will recommend disciplinary action to the police and fire chiefs, which may include dismissal, which will then ultimately determine the future of the employee.

Employees can receive medical or religious exemptions. Almost 200 police officers have already requested religious exemptions, which is by far the highest number of exemptions of any city agency. 26 workers applied for either medical or religious exemptions from the fire department by Wednesday.

As of the beginning of this week, the HR department had not made any final decisions about exceptions, a spokesman said on Thursday.

The San Francisco vaccination mandate, the first and one of the strictest in the country, aroused some opposition from unions, particularly from law enforcement. Workers in high-risk environments such as hospitals, nursing homes and homeless shelters faced a vaccination mandate as early as September 30, while the rest of the city’s 35,000 workers must be vaccinated by November 1.

The police are prepared for the possibility of operating and continuing to provide critical services without unvaccinated employees.

Two weeks ago, Police Chief Bill Scott said in an email that the department would be shifting staff to remove unvaccinated workers from patrol, where they regularly interact with the public, and said the department would continue to provide vital services without the unvaccinated Officials could provide.

The number of unvaccinated people in the police force fell as the deadline drew nearer.

On October 5, 189 members were unvaccinated. Among them were 155 sworn members, 97 of them on patrol and 34 non-sworn members.

A global survey of the sector shows COVID-19 is moving to the cloud faster for nonprofits, but planning, skills and resource gaps remain.

SAN FRANCISCO, June 22, 2021 / PRNewswire / – TechSoup, the leading not-for-profit network facilitating the distribution of technology solutions to civil society organizations worldwide, today released the results of the largest global civil society research study ever conducted to understand computing practices and digital readiness of nonprofits and identify ways organizations like TechSoup can drive digital transformation of nonprofits and improve the impact on the sector.

“As a global alliance of organizations and activists committed to empowering citizenship and civil society around the world, it is critical that we understand the digital state of civil society around the world,” added Amy Taylor, Chief Networks Officer of Civicus. “With its global reach and comprehensive analysis of organizations’ needs and capabilities, this study helps define how activists and organizations engage in a digital world to serve, support, engage and inspire our most vulnerable communities. ”

Most decisions about IT products and services are made at the employee level, with an average purchase size of $ 375 Need permits. The number of people working on an IT team is limited and volunteers are often used.

Transition Ready ?: A quarter of nonprofits have a defined strategy for achieving digital readiness. The biggest barriers to digital adoption, digital enhancement, and data management are cost, employee training, and availability.

Data processing: Most organizations collect recipient, donor, and financial information. Across all data types, cloud-based data storage is the most widely used option today.

Killer App: Organizations rely on spreadsheets for all aspects of data handling, including collecting, storing and sharing data.

Pandemic focus: The major negative effects of COVID-19 affected workflows across the company and prompted a rethinking of the way they work. Most programs, fundraising and marketing have been negatively impacted while internal communication has improved. COVID-19 has sparked digital adoption primarily in cloud-based apps, followed by hardware and desktop apps.

Need for Nonprofits: The adoption of cloud-based services, cybersecurity tools and other digital resources could be accelerated by increased funding, access to IT consultants / staff to facilitate digital transformation, staff skills or training and increased awareness of available digital tools become.

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – Governor Gavin Newsom assured East Bay residents Tuesday that a mass vaccination site at Oakland Coliseum will remain open after federal officials ended their attendance on April 11.

The location changes from a state-of-state partnership to a regional partnership between the counties of California, Alameda, and Contra Costa. FEMA will continue to be involved but will no longer supply vaccines.

CONTINUE READING: San Francisco hit-and-run victim identified as 78-year-old resident Antonio Durano

“Both sites will remain operational – both the Oakland site, the Alameda County site and the Cal State, LA site,” Newsom said at the morning press conference. “The only change is that we don’t get the direct allocation of vaccines from the federal government. That’s the only change. Otherwise the public will not change noticeably. “

Each site was set up to vaccinate 6,000 people a day, but they administered up to 7,500 shots a day, according to the state Emergency Services Bureau. Newsom said it was too early to say if those numbers will go down without the federal pipeline.

“Again, the problem is constraint, the problem is supply,” he said. “So we’re working with the county, and in the case of Northern California. We’re working with two counties – Alameda County and Contra Costa County – and are forming a regional partnership with FEMA, CalOES.”

“We will match the allocations from these two counties with the state allocations for vaccines,” added Newsom.

On Saturday, acting FEMA Administrator Robert Fenton denied a request from Newsom to extend federal COVID-19 vaccine shipments to the bulk vaccine sites beyond the April 11 deadline.

“We did not succeed in renewing the commitment made by the federal government – and that commitment was the first in the United States, by the way, so we are very grateful to the Biden administration,” he said. “You made that commitment … you kept your word, and now we will at least take over the vaccine supply component and coordinate it with the counties.”

When asked by Cal-OES, Fenton said, “FEMA has shipped all of the promised vaccine to the state of California, plus a few extra doses of Pfizer. And with the approval of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, we were able to vaccinate tens of thousands more people with one product. “

“On Sunday, April 11th, the eight week CVC mission will be completed. But that doesn’t mean the vaccinations will end. Cal OES is working with local health authorities on a transition plan to transfer management of CVCs to local organizations. “

Fenton said when the two states opened, California was receiving approximately 1.5 million doses of vaccine a week. This number has been increasing for several weeks.

“Going forward, California is expected to receive at least 2 million doses a week for the next three weeks,” said Fenton. “On Thursday April 1, the state said it is expected to receive up to 3 million doses per week by the end of April. In addition, pharmacies are to receive an increase of 500,000 vaccines per week. “

He said federal funding for the two locations would continue through October 30.

“FEMA stands ready to leave any field-hired staff in place if the facilities are relocated,” he said. “We are also ready to leave the three mobile units assigned to each CVC.”
