San Francisco Chronicle blasted for asking if residents ought to ‘tolerate burglaries’

R.Readers were stunned when the San Francisco Chronicle asked in a Friday tweet whether residents should “tolerate burglaries” amid rampant urban crime.

The outlet tweeted along with a link to an article entitled, “Two men with long criminal history were caught stealing bicycles. What should SF do about you? ”

The play examines the city’s drive for criminal justice reform while “debating how to tackle property crime, which has been among the highest in the country for years”.

Twitter users reacted harshly to the wording of the outlet.

“Can you imagine living in a city where it is considered more practical to barricade yourself in your home than (see notes) … to arrest intruders?” Wrote the Twitter user jason@calacanis.com.

“Posting this so that people who have never lived in SF can see the madness we are dealing with,” wrote former UFC fighter Jake Shields. “I saw it only get worse and fled a year ago, but I have friends who believe it will get better.”

San Francisco has seen a significant drop in police force in recent years, which some attribute to the left and anti-police policies of city officials.

“This brazen criminal behavior is endured every day by the San Franciscans and is the direct result of the criminal-first agenda of District Attorney Chesa Boudin and his facilitators,” Tony Montoya, president of the San Francisco Police Officers Association, said in a June statement .
