Google Employees Go Again To The Workplace – CBS San Francisco

MOUNTAIN VIEW (KPIX) – Hundreds of Google employees from the Bay Area returned to work on Monday, two months before the company fully reopened.

Mike Mozer, research associate at the company, described the return to the office after 16 months of absence as “eerily normal”.

“It’s kind of bizarre, like falling back into routine. There’s nothing unusual about that, ”said Mozer.

Google does not require indoor masks if employees are vaccinated and provide confirmation. Workers who are not vaccinated are required to wear a mask indoors and have weekly Covid tests. The buildings won’t have any capacity limits or social distancing rules.

In a blog post in May, CEO Sundar Pichai said the company will begin transitioning to a hybrid schedule, with 60% of employees working three days a week through September. Another 20% will work in new office locations and the remaining 20% will work from home.

Pichai also announced a new “work from anywhere” option available for up to four weeks a year. The new offer is intended to give employees more flexibility during the summer and school holidays.

“I don’t have to cook alone every day now,” said Chang.

News of the return of Google employees to Mountain View was greeted with smiles at Sports Page Bar and Grill. The company survived the pandemic largely due to its sprawling outdoor deck, which co-owner Jacqueline Graham said was able to accommodate guests during much of the lockdown. Sports Page has kept all of its employees and will begin hiring as soon as Google employees return to the office en masse.

“Of course, that’s a good sign for all of the local businesses here in Mountain View,” said Graham. “I think life will be back to normal. I think people want to be on the road again. “

Mozer, the researcher, comes five days a week.
