The San Francisco Residence From “The Princess Diaries” Is for Sale

When you’ve spent your formative years wanting to be just like Mia Thermopolis, miracles happen. According to the Wall Street Journal, an iconic location from Disney’s The Princess Diaries is now on the market for a whopping $8.9 million. The 6,526-square-foot property, located right between San Francisco’s Pacific Heights and Cow Hollow neighborhoods, served as the high school in the popular Anne Hathaway film. Just thinking about Grove High School conjures up images of the princess protagonist smashing an ice cream cone into mean girl Lana, played by Mandy Moore.
It may not be Genovia, but 2601 Lyon Street is regal in itself. Built in 1923 by celebrated architect August Headman, the neoclassical Mediterranean building stands out from the city’s Victorian and Queen Anne residences. The property has been renovated over the last 20 years and features a range of amenities including an elevator, a roof garden and several panoramic balconies.
“It’s one of those rare gems that borders a verdant urban forest with dramatic views of the forest as well as the San Francisco Bay and city,” says realtor Steven Mavromihalis, who shares the listing with colleague Jessica Grimes at Compass. “It’s spread across several wonderful neighborhoods, with many of the best restaurants, shops and schools in close proximity. But perhaps best of all is the symmetry, balance and harmony of the home. You feel it from the moment you see the house for the first time. There’s just something magical about it.”
