Neighbors from downtown Pleasanton three miles away said they heard the gunshots loud and clear.

“As the night went on, we heard more and more gunshots,” said neighbor Ysabella Gonzalez.

Gonzalez lives two doors down from where the shooting took place. She called 911 just after 10 a.m. on Friday night.

“I was scared. At first I was like looking out the window and I was like, ‘Maybe I should get away from my window,'” Gonzalez said.

The neighbors said the man who lives in the apartment on Arroyo Court fired a series of shots that lasted an hour about every 10 minutes.

Pleasanton police estimated the man had fired approximately 100 shots at his home. The police kept telling people to seek refuge.

“I was hiding over there behind the trees,” said neighbor Darren Willis. “And then (the police) said on the loudspeaker, ‘For your safety, get out of here.'”

“I am like you know what, these things are getting louder. I think that was when he started shooting the rifle because he was shooting a pistol. And then it got louder, it was a rifle. So there I went. ”

Neighbors said police rescued the neighbor who was trapped. Her bedroom is right next to the man’s apartment. Some of the shots hit neighboring houses. Fortunately, no one was shot.

“He said there were smileys on his door and he used his gun to protect himself,” said Gonzalez. “And he’s running out of ammo, so he jumped out his window and came here feeling like he needed help from what was on his door. But the threat really was him. “

The neighbors said the man was incoherent when the police arrested him. They said he was a veteran who lives with his wife and three children. Police said the woman and children were not there when the shooting took place. A woman who went into the house on Saturday night to get some items declined to speak.

“He was always outside and played with his children. They played catch. I used to see them play tag and I wanted to join in. He seemed like a great dad, ”said neighbor Britney Cooper.

All the neighbors praised the police for resolving the situation excellently.
