Springfield-area HVAC, plumbing companies report spikes as we keep residence extra in pandemic

SPRINGFIELD, Mon. (KY3) – The pandemic is driving demand for HVAC and plumbing companies in the Ozarks.

Workers at Springfields Air Services Heating and Cooling and All Service Professional Plumbing say that when the pandemic started, things were shut down for a few weeks. Since then, they have been running at full speed. The demand for air purifiers and germicidal lights increased by 20 to 30%. While they can’t promise they’ll kill the novel coronavirus, the equipment has been known to kill pretty much every other virus.

General manager Rich Callahan also says his company benefits from home upgrades and remodeling while working more at home. And the demand for system repairs has also increased, probably due to the increased use of heating, cooling and plumbing systems while we stay more at home.

“Because a lot of people refuse, keep their houses closed,” Callahan said. “Well, if they stay at home, the kids stay at home, the doors open and close all the time, letting those elements in in the open air, and the temperature changes so the system works harder. Plus, washing hands, doing more dishes and other things means that the water heater is on a lot more than it normally is when the house is normally idle for most of the day. “

Callahan says the company has had inventory issues as manufacturers everywhere have been hit by the pandemic. But he says his business is growing, adding new trucks and hiring new employees.
