Shirley Ann Allen Dotson
August 11, 1939 – August 2, 2022
Shirley Dotson was a woman of great intellect; she made the most of every moment. She died in San Francisco in her home after a battle with dementia and cancer on August 2, 2022. Shirley was born in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, the daughter of Elmer Allen, Sr. and Cleopatra Atkinson Allen. She grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma and attended Jarvis Christian College. Later she received her bachelor’s degree from San Francisco State University. She was employed at several different positions at City College of San Francisco and served for several years as Supervisor of Testing before her retirement. She loved to travel the country with members in the order, and back to Tulsa to see family and friends.
She was an active member of Jones United Methodist Church where she served as an usher. She was actively involved as a Past Loyal Lady Ruler of the Golden Circle #295. She was a member of the Daughters of Isis Thutmose Court #59 as a Past Illustrious Commandress.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Cleopatra; brothers, Jeff and Elmer, Jr., and sister, Doris. Shirley is survived by her husband, Robert, whom she wed for 61 years; loving son, Robert III (Lita), granddaughters Kathleen and Emily, loving daughter, Patricia; sister, Bobbie (Ernest); niece, monique, niece, karen (ray), niece, priscilla (rudy), brother, earl. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 50:10-12.
Services are scheduled as follows:
Quiet Hour: Sunday, August 14th at 5:00 pm at Jones Memorial United Methodist Church, 1975 Post Street, San Francisco.
Funeral: Monday, August 15th at 11:00 am at Jones Memorial United Methodist Church.
Interment: Greenlawn Cemetery
