Rihanna Simply Launched a Haircare Line, Fenty Hair — This is What I Suppose About It

Yup, Rihanna has entered the haircare — and unsurprisingly she knows exactly what she’s talking about!

If you’ve been keeping up, Fenty Hair is now the fourth major celebrity-founded hair brand to launch this year– right behind Beyonce’s Cecréd, Rita Ora’s TypeBae, and Brooke Shield’s Commence. It’s dizzying, *but* this particular launch feels right for several reasons.

First off, RiRi is a certified style icon who has continued to churn out looks — which include headline-grabbing hairstyles — for nearly two decades. Then consider the fact we’ve been waiting for this haircare collection since 2021, when fans noticed the Grammy award winning-musician filed for the Fenty Hair trademark. Last but certainly not least, RiRi has already built a billion dollar (!!!) empire thanks to her Fenty Beauty, Fenty Eau de Parfum, and Fenty Skin brands — so why stop there?

“Hair has always been very personal to me– my hairstyles have been markers of my evolution and growth over the years– so launching Fenty Hair was something I was really passionate about,” Rihanna explained in the official press release.

I had the awesome opportunity to get my hands (and hair) on this new vegan, sulfate-free and silicone-free collection before the rest of the world. First I tested the products at home and then during an in-salon experience with other top beauty editors in the biz.

With strong, healthy hair as the core mission of the line, Rihanna aims to provide products that fortify the hair in order to create head-turning hairstyles. And Fenty Hair’s secret to this foundational work is its proprietary complex called Replenicore-5. In short, it’s packed with lots of goodies to keep your strands in peak condition (see below for more details). The Bajan beauty tapped her favorite go-to celeb hairstylists — Ursula Stephen and Yusef — to help consult on the creation of the collection. The duo was also on hand to whip my hair into shape at the editors-only event.

What is Fenty Hair’s Replenicore-5 technology all about?

This potent blend of amino acids, proteins, and antioxidants is meant to deliver a strong by balance dose of nourishment to your hair.

Clinically tested to repair, strengthen, hydrate, smooth and protect. Rihanna has always been thoughtful about the formulation of all her beauty products, as well as her Barbadian roots — and haircare is no exception. The complex is packed with Barbados Gooseberry, upcycled Jackfruit extract, hydrolyzed vegetable protein, and green tea extract and amino acids. Basically they work together to create what the brand calls “a continuous loop of repair.”

My Fenty Hair experience and results

I was lucky enough to be one of the first editors to get my hands on the products a few months ago. I was sent the collection in highly confidential lab sample bottles — and of course, I signed a NDA. The only product I didn’t receive was the 3-in-1 Edge Tool, but got to test that bb out during my salon visit with Ursula Stephan several weeks later.

So, my at-home experience was really amazing — and the timing was perfect since I was prepping my 4b hair to get knotless box braids installed the next day. I started the process with The Rich One Moisture Repair Shampoo, and let’s just say my hair needed plenty of moisturizing and repairing. I appreciated that this gentle sulfate-free formulation had enough lathering to cleanse my hair but not strip my strands and leave it feeling brittle or dry. That’s a difficult balance to strike — and perhaps it has something to do with the Replenicore-5 complex.

Next I went in with The Rich One Moisture Repair Conditioner. On this step I used a detangling brush to work the creamy but not-too-heavy product through my curls. I can always judge a great conditioner if I’m not fighting to detangle and if the product penetrates my hair in the process — and this one checked both boxes. I then used The Richer One Moisture Repair Deep Conditioner. Double conditioning isn’t always necessary, but in the spirit of trying out everything and getting my hair ready for these braids I went all in. I would use this bb once/twice a month or whenever my hair is screaming for hydration.

The last product in this road test was definitely the one I was most excited for. The Comeback Kid Instant Damage Repair Treatment is the brand’s hero product — and for good reason. If you’ve been obsessed with all of the bond building hair products out there, then add this to the top of your list. Not only does it tout getting deep into the cortex of hair to repair damage from the inside out, but it’s basically foolproof. You can use it as a leave-in (!!), which is unheard of when it comes to many keratin-fortifying products. I opted to wash it out, but felt the effects of the treatment and the entire process as I blow dried my hair. I added The Protective Type 5-in-1 Heat Protectant Styler and went to work.

I can honestly say my strands felt stronger and I had a lot less hair fall in the comb of my dryer. I also noticed that my hair felt softer and shinier once it was completely dried. I’m hoping as I use it more and more I’ll see my split ends reduce. I skipped The Homecurl Curl-Defining Cream and The Gelly Type Strong Hold Gel, but made sure I brought The Controlling Type Hair-Thickening Edge Control Gel to my braid appointment. I didn’t tell my braider what she was using, but she was thrilled with the results — and I was too. My box parts were super smooth and soft — and they honestly stayed that way for the full three weeks my braids were in. I didn’t see a flake the whole time. Plus, when I took the braids down my hair was super supple and I had minimal hair shedding.

When it came to my in-salon experience, Ursula decided to use the same lineup of products I tried at home, but style it in a bouncy silk press. She also added a bit of The Controlling Type Hair-Thickening Edge Control Gel with The Sidestick 3-in-1 Edge Tool to keep my mob wife-inspired curls in place. The results were *chef’s kiss!*

After my Fenty Hair salon appointment

A week later I went in with The Homecurl Curl-Defining Cream and The Gelly Type Strong Hold Gel to create a twist-out on the 7-day-old silk press. Again, the results were fab! The curl cream re-hydrated my hair and reverted the texture just enough to give enough texture to form the two-strand twists and the gel locked in the mositure and created a soft hold.

Are there more products on the way?

Totally! In true Fenty form, there’s always plenty of things cooking behind the scenes. I predict more innovative styling products and tools — but the brand is keeping mum on just what’s in store.

My Final thoughts

I’m thrilled that this foray into haircare stays true to Rihanna’s mission of “Beauty for all.” It’s not easy creating products that serve a variety of needs, while also being both efficacious and exciting! I also love the beauty and thoughtfulness behind the packaging. The tops of each product are easy to open and have distinctive 3D designs — which beyond being aesthetically pleasing are amazing for anyone with low/no vision or other ability limitations.

At the end of the day, the secret sauce behind anything that Rihanna creates is, well, Rihanna! Her infectious transparency and ability to connect authentically with her fans/followers/customers/mere mortals is why we keep coming back for more. I certainly will be!
