Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband offers speeds many times faster than 4G. When the technology matures, it is expected to be able to handle amounts of data 100 times larger than today’s 4G service and offer extremely low latencies. This is the time it takes for a signal to complete a round trip from Point A to Point B. “We were at the forefront of leading the 5G revolution and driving the technology that delivers transformative experiences to customers,” said Kyle Malady, Verizon’s chief technology officer. “Our goal with this breakthrough technology is to reshape the world around us. 5G nationwide coverage from Verizon

Verizon today also announced the launch of 5G Nationwide for customers in California. Verizon’s 5G Nationwide runs on lower spectrum bands than 5G Ultra Wideband and uses an advanced technology called Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS). The dynamic frequency release allows the 5G service to run simultaneously with 4G LTE on the same frequency band. When customers with DSS move outside Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband coverage area, their 5G-enabled devices with 5G technology and lower frequency bands will remain.

With this new technology, Verizon can leverage its entire portfolio of current spectrum resources to serve 4G and 5G customers, maximizing their experience on the Verizon network. Customers can use Verizon’s network in a variety of ways – from virtual learning to real-time gaming – and this requires the ability to allocate frequency resources in real time.
