New Turf Subject Unveiled at James Lick Center College in San Francisco – NBC Bay Space

James Lick Middle School in San Francisco’s Noe Valley neighborhood received a much-needed upgrade on Tuesday.

The school held a ribbon cutting ceremony to unveil their brand new turf field.

The new campus is primarily designed for use by the school’s football teams, which used to train and play on asphalt. This led to more injuries and less involvement.

Rogelio Alvarado, the coach of James Lick’s boys’ and girls’ football teams, welcomed the move and said it would help enormously from a logistical point of view.

“I think that’s really important for a lot of reasons, but beyond the obvious and physical reasons is the fact that we’re recognized,” he said. “The importance of sport in the development of these guys.”

James Lick’s school is almost closed for the summer, but it is hoped the new field will bring pupils back to the football teams in droves next autumn.
