New Downtown San Francisco Ikea Will Have Nonstop Safety

The new Ikea furniture store in downtown San Francisco will be under 24-hour surveillance, the retailer announced Monday.

“The safety of our employees and customers is always a top priority for Ikea. Ikea San Francisco, which will be part of a new Ingka Centers hangout on Market Street, will be manned with a security team at all times,” an Ikea spokesman said in an email.

The new Market Street store could open as early as May in the building previously known as the 6×6 Mall, although the company now says it will open in the coming months. Previous information said the store would be open by the end of 2023.

“We seek excellent partnerships with all local, state and federal agencies, including law enforcement, and work with them as the situation warrants,” said an Ikea spokesman. “As we vigorously move forward with construction, we remain committed to the site and will be sharing our exciting plans for IKEA San Francisco’s grand opening ceremony in the coming months.”
