Money App creator reportedly stabbed to demise in San Francisco

Bob Lee, inventor of the Cash App mobile payment service, has died.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Lee was the victim of a knife attack in the Rincon Point neighborhood on Tuesday.

San Francisco police said they responded at the scene after receiving a report of a knife attack around 2:35 a.m. The 43-year-old was found there with obvious stab wounds.

“Officials rendered assistance and called paramedics to the scene,” SFPD said in a statement.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where his death was pronounced.

Police are investigating the death as a homicide. There were no arrests.

At the time of his death, Lee was Chief Product Officer for MobileCoin, a cryptocurrency startup.

Joshua Goldbard, the company’s founder, paid tribute to Lee.

“He was created for the world that is being born,” said Goldbard. “Bob was a kid full of dreams and whatever he imagined, no matter how crazy, he made it happen.”

Lee was well known throughout the tech industry. Jack Dorsey, who owns Cash App’s parent company, called Lee’s death “heartbreaking”.

Goldbard said Lee leaves behind “a loving family and a number of close friends and associates.”
