Man Discovered Holding Shotgun Exterior His Burning Berkeley Dwelling Arrested for Arson – CBS San Francisco

BERKELEY (CBS SF) – A Berkeley man was arrested for arson Thursday morning and was carrying a loaded shotgun after setting fire to the maisonette he lived in, police said Friday.

The officers went to the 1500 block on Stuart Street to check on the welfare of a man who appeared to be acting erratically in his home.

The neighbors told police they heard glass breaking and the 34-year-old man yelled and knocked on the walls.

According to police, officers tried to speak to the man but he refused to open the door. Officials tried more than once and failed, police said.

Officers left after deciding the man was alone and in no danger. Around 10 a.m., the dispatchers received the call that the maisonette was on fire and the man with a shotgun was standing in front of his house and acting erratically.

The officers went back home and held the man while the firefighters put out the fire.
