KPIX 5’s Elizabeth Prepare dinner Goes To The White Home; Meets With First Woman Dr. Jill Biden – CBS San Francisco

WASHINGTON (CBS SF) – KPIX 5 host Elizabeth Cook traveled to Washington this week to have a face-to-face meeting with First Lady Jill Biden for the family’s First Christmas at the White House.

Dr. Biden said the goal of her husband, President Joe Biden, and his administration had been to bring a divided country back together from day one in office. The theme that the Bidens have chosen for the festive Christmas decorations at the White House this year is “Presents from the Heart”.

It was a theme that was reflected in the decoration of the Christmas tree that was next to Dr. Biden stood. Many of these decorations contained photos that were treasured by the First Family.

“I think Joe will fix things,” said Dr. Biden on the mood in Washington. “If you look at where we started when we took office, I think he made so much progress in so many things. Our kids are back to school, now we have (COVID) vaccines for everyone 5 years or older, we just passed the infrastructure bill, it brought Republicans and Democrats together, and now every kid in America is going to have broadband so everyone is equal Access to education and we will have better roads and clean drinking water. “

“In just a short time,” she continued. “I think Joe is doing a great job of moving things forward.”

As a professional trainer, Dr. Biden was particularly aware of the steps the administration has taken to bring schools back after the pandemic closed and the forced switch to distance learning.

“One of the things I want to say to the parents where you live (in the Bay Area) is that they (the local educators) are doing a great job and that was so tough,” said Dr. Biden. “I know it as a teacher, I had to learn to teach about Zoom last semester and this semester I’ll be back in the classroom. So many parents had to drop everything (during distance learning), our teachers – look at the great job they have done. “

“In a minute they just changed the curriculum, they got students on zoom, some teachers stayed up late so they could re-teach their lesson plan when too many members of their (student) families were at the computer and they” didn’t have time to be on. So many educators have done so. ”

Dr. Biden said it was crucial to continue increasing the resources available to educators.

“If we can give equal resources to schools, if we can give equal opportunities to every child in America, and that’s exactly what Joe does,” she said. “It’s going to improve education exponentially.”
