Jordan Matthews: Shifting to tight finish

Matthews gained about 15 pounds to move to the tight end, reports Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
Matthews has appeared in five NFL games in the past two seasons and has been unable to get regular snaps despite playing for teams (Philadelphia, San Francisco) in desperate need of wide receiver help. The 2014 second-round pick started his NFL career with three consecutive 800-yard seasons, but he’s now approaching his 29th birthday (July 16) and doesn’t seem to have a future in the league as a wide receiver. Matthews is hoping to spark some interest with his move to the tight end and he’s already gained 236.5 pounds, about 10-20 less than typical weight for an NFL starter at the position. He is currently a free agent and probably won’t be ready to have a significant close end game at the start of the season. A place on the practice team seems more likely than a place on the squad.
