Jeremy Renner was only out driving the snowplough, but was critically injured when his handyman was prevented from getting up the road by police officers, a neighbor told The Post on Wednesday.

“It’s a private road where he lives. I’ve never plowed this road before, but his maintenance guy – the California Highway Patrol – wouldn’t let him plow up the hill, so Jeremy decided to do it himself,” the 58-year-old man explained.

“When I saw Care Flight here I thought it was some idiot stuck skiing. They always make a circle here.”

But it was the 51-year-old Marvel actor who suffered “blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries” on New Year’s Day, his rep said, after the two-time Oscar nominee was run over by his own snowplow.

The neighbor, who declined to give his name, said Wednesday he believed Renner only started plowing so his family could leave their home. The neighbor cleared the area around Sunridge Court just before Renner’s freak accident, which he says helped the ambulance land and take Renner to the hospital.

“I plowed Sunridge just before he got injured. I guess I plowed just enough for them to get Care Flight into the Tannenbaum,” the neighbor said, referring to the Tannenbaum Event Center venue, which is less than a mile from Renner’s home.

“I just finished that, otherwise it would have snowed all over the place. I think Jeremy was trying to plunder his family because they had to leave.”

“If I had woken up an hour later, no one would have come to this or any other street,” the neighbor added.

The man’s wife told the Post her husband didn’t start work until Sunday morning to haul out a car that was stranded in the Christmas tree parking lot.

“The only reason he plowed down the tree the day Care Flight landed was because some idiot left his car in the middle of the parking lot,” said the woman, who didn’t give her name or age.

“He wanted to wait until the next day, but he decided to be a nice guy and go through with it. At the same time he came back here, Care Flight left.”

The male neighbor said he plowed the area with a bobcat while Renner used a snowplow that couldn’t handle heavy snow.

“Sno-Cats are used for grooming,” he said of the snow plow, also known as the PistenBully. “It should not be used in heavy snowfall.”

Lars Mintz, lift operator and maintenance worker at Sky Tavern ski resort, told The Post that the PistenBully used by Renner may have had a problem with the brakes.

“If it didn’t stop, it was probably due to a braking problem,” explained the 23-year-old. “You put it in park and lock the e-brake. It’s not like a gearbox – it’s a hydraulic pump that shuts off the power to move the tracks forward.”

“Maybe he forgot to put the brakes on,” Mintz said of Renner.

Mintz said he prefers to use a bobcat for snow removal, but also noted that the PistenBully is used for snow removal as well as snow removal at the ski resort.

“These things are very dangerous,” he said of the PistenBully. “This is the first time I’ve heard from Jeremy Renner as a person.”

The ‘Avengers’ and ‘Bourne Legacy’ star is in critical but stable condition. More details from an 911 call log showed that the right side of Renner’s chest collapsed and his torso was crushed under the nearly 14,500-pound plow, according to TMZ.

He shared a photo from his hospital bed Tuesday night with a badly bruised face.

“Thank you everyone for your kind words,” Renner wrote in the caption. “I’m too confused to type now. But I send you all my love.”

Renner is known in the area for being neighborly and has been clearing snow regularly for many years.

Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam said during a Tuesday news conference that Renner’s PistenBully “got stuck” when Renner tried to “salvage” and “retrieve” the vehicle. [it] To move.”

Although he was successful, he was next to the machine talking to a family member when the snowplow started moving, the sheriff said.

“In order to stop the rolling PistenBully, Mr. Renner tried[ed] “I have to climb back into the driver’s seat of the PistenBully,” said Balaam. “According to our investigations, Mr. Renner is at this point [was] run over.”
