SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KRON) – San Francisco Unified says it is on track to offer face-to-face learning in some schools on April 12th.
The first students to return to campus are those in Phase 2A, which takes place up to 5th grade before kindergarten.
A parent says setting a date is a good move but still has questions about the reopening plan.

“What is currently unclear is how many students it actually covers,” said Viviane Safrin. “For example, Clarendon is a Wave 3 school, which means there are no reopening dates outside of those first smaller handful of schools.”
Safrin is the mother of two students at Clarendon Elementary School in San Francisco.
One of thousands of parents who have been home schooling their children for almost a year.
She helped organize the “Zoom In” protests, which took place outside of closed schools, to raise awareness among students who had struggled with distance learning over the past year.
Safrin plans to keep spreading the news.
“We have to keep working until there is an option for five full days for all K-12 students. We know it is safe to do so, ”she said. “We love and support our teachers. We support you. We are so happy that they are vaccinated. “
San Francisco public schools will reopen in person on April 12th.
As part of the interim health and safety agreement, the district and union are working to bring as many students as possible back into a near-full day of school in focus groups five days a week.

“The agreement applies to preschool through 5th grade and then to all preschool through high school students who attend special day classes in the special education program,” said Susan Solomon.
Solomon is president of Teacher’s Union United Educators in San Francisco, and says safety protocols are in place and educators and staff are given appropriate PPE.
“Masks, robes, face shields, even N95 masks for educators who work may not require students to close closer than 10 feet, and in some cases some educators will visit more than one stable cohort,” Solomon said.
According to Solomon, educators will find out when the start dates for their schools are and they will have access to the buildings two weeks before school starts so they can start setting up their classrooms.
Other students will be offered personal options until the end of April.
“The district will provide further details on Monday. In the meantime, the prosecutor is pushing the lawsuit against the district and the school board to reopen the schools. A trial is scheduled for March 22nd.
