Goodwin Lands Orrick Actual Property Accomplice in San Francisco

Goodwin Procter has hired real estate partner Dustin Calkins of Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe in San Francisco, the company announced Thursday.

Calkins is the firm’s third partner in California in 2023. Earlier this year she hired technology and M&A partner Jon Olson in San Diego and IP litigation partner Sharon Smith in San Francisco.

Overall, Goodwin has hired 32 lateral partners since the start of the year, many on the East Coast, including a 14-strong partner team from Troutman Pepper Hamilton Sanders, mostly in Philadelphia, as well as DC, New York and Boston.

Calkins, a real estate finance attorney, joined Orrick in 2011 and became a partner in 2016. According to his LinkedIn account, he has represented Deutsche Asset & Wealth Management, Stockbridge Capital Group, Swift Real Estate Partners, USAA, and others.

His expertise in joint venture and real estate finance “will enhance the ability of our local and global clients to deploy capital and achieve their business objectives,” said Diana Brummer, co-chair of Goodwin’s real estate practice, in a statement.

According to the company, Calkins advises companies and investors on real estate-related transactions such as joint ventures, developments and recapitalizations. He also advises on purchases and sales of individual assets, national portfolios and other developments.

Real estate is one of Goodwin’s five sector priorities and the real estate practice group includes more than 200 attorneys in the United States and abroad.

“We thank Dustin for his contributions to our company and wish him well,” an Orrick spokesman said in a statement.
