Last month, 70 Watertown area children received more than $70,000 of dental care at no cost, thanks to the efforts of the Watertown Area United Way and Delta Dental of South Dakota.

Treatment provided during the June 3-14 visit included exams, cleanings, preventive treatments like fluoride varnish and sealants, and cavity fillings.

Delta Dental operates two mobile dental clinics that travel the state to provide essential dental care to children who might not have the means to access such services.

Watertown Area United Way Executive Director Laura Heathcote told KXLG News that Delta Dental has been coming to Watertown for many years.

She said the response from the community shows how great the need is.

The Inter-Lakes Community Action Project-sponsored Delta Dental visit will take place October 21-25 at Lake Area Technical College. Information about registering for that event will take place at a later date.

Heathcote thanked the Watertown Regional Library for hosting the truck last month.

Heathcote also expressed gratitude to the community and donors, highlighting the effort and support that makes this service possible. She emphasized the importance of community partnerships in achieving common goals and providing valuable services.

Since its start in 2004, the Delta Dental Truck program has visited 86 South Dakota communities and provided more than $28 million in dental care.
