SAN FRANCISO – Cody Bellinger will make his first start of the season at First Base on Tuesday evening against the San Francisco Giants. Manager Dave Roberts moves the midfielder into the infield to relieve Bellinger’s tight left hamstring muscles.

Bellinger has made 212 starts in first base and has a field rate of 0.996, making seven mistakes in 1,803 chances. He injured his hamstring Friday night against the Colorado Rockies when he snapped a 0v25 skid with a double and a triple.

Roberts said the move to first base will be “short term,” likely just for that three-game streak against the Giants. The Dodgers have directed Bellinger to play with a “governor,” which is a tough job for a player known for his extensive efforts on the field and at the bases.

“I have to keep reminding him that his teammates, the coaches, understand that he is in there and will do his best, but not push,” said Roberts, “because it could be more damaging if he does.”

Max Muncy also returned from a three-day paternity leave, his wife Kellie gave birth to the couple’s first child, a girl, on Friday in Phoenix. Muncy, who will play Second Base and Bat Second, hits 0.317 (13 for 41) this season with eight homers, 10 RBIs and 11 runs in 13 games against the Giants.

Dodger’s left-handed Julio Urías (12-3, 3.63 ERA) will face right-handed Logan Webb (4-3, 3.54 ERA) in the 6.45pm game at Oracle Park.

The Giants (62-37) are two games ahead of the Dodgers (61-40) in the National League West and won three of four games at Dodger Stadium last week, coming in the ninth inning against Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen in the last two games .
