Cubs high Giants 3-2 – CBS San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO — Pinch-hitter Nico Hoerner hit a lone two-run single in the seventh run, assisting Marcus Stroman’s fifth straight win. The Chicago Cubs battled the San Francisco Giants 3-2 on Friday night and went on a four-game losing streak.

Stroman (7-4) has won every time since losing to Minnesota on May 14. He allowed two runs with six hits over 6 2/3 innings, hitting out five and walking four in his 14th start of the year as a team leader.

Giants right-hander Anthony DeSclafani (4-6) gave up Seiya Suzuki’s seventh-round opener and then went to Ian Happ before manager Gabe Kapler handed him off to backup Ryan Walker. He knocked out Dansby Swanson with a flyball and then knocked Matt Mervis to the ground. Then came a rested Horner who had most of the evening off.

Tucker Barhart, too, notched an RBI single in the crucial seventh game on a night when Cubs manager David Ross shook up his lineup and tried to “create a spark” amid recent offensive troubles. Chicago has done just enough for Stroman.

Thairo Estada had an RBI double against Stroman in the third set and Joc Pederson contributed four singles against his former club, but the Giants’ three-game winning streak was broken — an RBI infield single in the seventh game that came after a first decision was won at the retest he was initially thrown out. This weekend, they’re making a quick stop at home before heading back to St. Louis and Los Angeles.

Adbert Alzolay knocked out Brandon Crawford with what he called a third strike and ended the game with his third save as the Cubs went 8-7 against the NL West.

San Francisco has allowed five runs or fewer in 15 straight games against the Cubs — the longest run of that kind since the New York Giants restricted them to five or fewer in 16 straight encounters from July 1929 to May 1921.

A post-game drone show was canceled due to a technical issue.
