COVID-19 stay updates: San Francisco proclaims new masks tips

SF announces new mask guidelines
San Francisco now says vaccinated people can take off their masks outside unless they are in a large gathering. The city’s acting health officer says people don’t need to wear masks when exercising outdoors and don’t have to pull the mask over their face when passing people on the way.

The vaccination center is scheduled to open in San Jose today
A new permanent vaccination facility opens today in South San Jose at the Santa Teresa Light Rail VTA station. An official announcement of the free walk-up site is slated for this morning. The site can provide hundreds of COVID vaccines every day, according to VTA.

7-day positivity rate in CA at 1.3%

California has 3,640,226 confirmed cases to date, according to state health officials. There were 2,094 newly registered confirmed cases as of Friday.

The CA Department of Public Health says the 7-day positivity rate is 1.3%.

60,265,800 tests were performed in California.

There have been 60,625 COVID-19 deaths since the pandemic began.

Contra Costa Co. manages more than 1 million vaccines
Contra Costa County has now administered more than 1 million COVID-19 vaccines – that’s a few weeks ahead of the July 4th goal. Today the county added two temporary vaccination clinics. One is at the Pittsburg Youth Development Center. The other is at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Richmond. No appointment is required. The locations are only for authorized residents of the district. It’s open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through May 2nd.

The San Mateo Co. bulk vaccination facility reopens today
Starting today, a drive-through mass vaccination clinic will reopen at the San Mateo County Event Center. The county has received more vaccine doses from the federal government. You must work or live in San Mateo County and an appointment is required.

April 28, 2021

7:15 a.m.
The San Mateo Co. bulk vaccination facility will reopen tomorrow
A mass vaccination site at the San Mateo County Event Center will reopen tomorrow. It was closed earlier this month due to low supply. Officials say they plan to hold multiple vaccination events a week. The side is only passable. Dates are available now.

According to Newsom, California should follow CDC guidelines for wearing outdoor masks
According to Newsom, the governor of California, health officials are trying to bring California mask leadership in line with updates from the CDC that vaccinated people are not required to wear masks outdoors unless they are in a crowd of strangers. You can find the full new instructions here.

Santa Clara Co. accepts drop-ins at most vaccination centers
Santa Clara County will accept drop-ins at most of its vaccination sites from now through Sunday. The only exceptions are Levi’s Stadium and Eastridge Mall, but even these locations accept same-day appointments.

Some SF Unified students are returning to class
Today, the San Francisco public middle and high schools are welcoming some students back to face-to-face learning. The school district says classrooms will be reopened to “priority populations”. These include first-year students, students with limited online engagement, homeless students, young people in care, students in social housing and students with special needs. All other middle and high school students will not return until the fall.

California’s 7-day positivity rate is 1.3%, according to state health officials
California recorded 1,739 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, according to new statistics from the state Department of Health. The 7-day positivity rate is 1.3%.

59,095,717 tests were conducted in California, up from 199,392 in the previous 24-hour reporting period.
