Corte Madera accountant receives honorary doctorate from Golden Gate College – Marin Impartial Journal

Christian Frederiksen, a Corte Madera certified public accountant and business adviser, received an honorary doctorate May 1 from his alma mater of Golden Gate University in San Francisco.

Christian Frederiksen, a Corte Madera certified public accountant and business adviser, received an honorary doctorate this month from his alma mater of Golden Gate University in San Francisco.

Frederiksen graduated from Golden Gate University in 1966 and went on to win the John F. Forbes medal for the highest CPA exam score in California. He joined the university’s adjunct faculty and taught various classes including accounting theory. He later joined Touche Ross and Co. in 1969 and by 1973 became one of the youngest partners in the firm. He then founded several Bay Area firms including his current firm of Frederiksen-Crawford CPAs.

Frederiksen lectures and conducts seminars around the world with the 2020 Group, the world’s largest membership organization for small CPA firms, which he cofounded in 2000. He has also written several business books.

Breast surgical oncologist Dr. Leah Kelley, medical director of the breast program at Marin General Hospital, was recently honored with the 2015 Healing Professional Award by San Rafael-based Zero Breast cancer.

Kelley, of Oakland, was recognized for her dynamic leadership, passion for excellent care and enthusiasm in everything she does for her patients and the breast program at Marin General Hospital. Nominations for the award came from patients as well as professional colleagues.

Kelley received her medical degree from the University of Chicago. She did her residency training in obstetrics and gynecologic surgery at the University of California at San Francisco. She completed advanced fellowship training in breast surgical oncology at the University of Southern California.

Sausalito resident Diane Poslosky, executive director of San Francisco-based Environmental Traveling Companions, has announced that her organization was awarded the Dewitt Award for Partnership by the California State Parks at a ceremony this month.

Named for Save the Redwoods League leader John B. Dewitt, the award honors people or organizations that make outstanding contributions to the California State Park system and have served as irreplaceable partners for the parks.

Founded in 1972, Environmental Traveling Companions serves more than 2,300 participants with special needs every year and collaborates with more than 70 agencies to provide outdoor adventures to people with disabilities and disadvantaged youth.

David Solo, president and CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Marin and Southern Sonoma Counties, has accepted an offer to become the new president and CEO of Special Olympics Northern California and Nevada.

Solo’s last day with Boys & Girls Clubs of Marin and Southern Sonoma Counties is May 20 and he begins with Special Olympics Northern California and Nevada on June 22. He has been in his current position with the Boys & Girls Clubs for eight years, adding new clubs to schools such as Davidson Middle School that serve a total of 2,300 youths.

Solo has spent 21 years with Boys & Girls Clubs in the Pacific Region, including clubs in Oregon and Washington. He is a graduate of Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Advanced Leadership Program and has served as a resource development consultant since 2003.

The Republic of Tea, based in Novato, has announced that Todd Rubin will succeed his father Ron Rubin as president of the specialty tea line. Todd Rubin previously served as the minister of evolution and vice president of sales and marketing for the company, which he joined in 2007. His father Ron Rubin will continue to serve the company, which he purchased in 1994, as executive chairman and minister of tea.

Todd Rubin serves on Syracuse University’s School of Architecture Advisory Board to the Dean, and in 2014 he was the recipient of Syracuse’s Generation Orange Award for philanthropy. He was also honored as one of North Bay Business Journal’s Forty Under 40.
