The collaboration pursues a Silicon Valley approach to the quadruple goal and sets new standards for modern healthcare with end-to-end cloud-based interoperability and innovative AI

Amsterdam, Netherlands and San Francisco, CA. – – Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA), a global leader in health technology, and the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), a world-class center for biomedical research and health systems, today announced a partnership to develop this technology will enable a modern, streamlined experience for patients and set a new standard for healthcare.

UCSF will use Philips HealthSuite to oversee the development of technologies that use artificial intelligence to enable personalization and make it easier for patients to choose providers, access their health information and provide virtual home care. At the same time, the service providers are relieved by intuitive work processes and decision support in real time. Philips’ open, API-based ecosystem will fuel the level of third-party innovation that can achieve these goals when combined with UCSF’s clinical expertise. The cloud-based system offers end-to-end interoperability and orchestration and enables Philips products, systems, devices and services to work seamlessly with products developed by partners and third parties. This reflects the diversity of delivery systems and technology partners held by Philips and UCSF.

Fix the lack of interoperability
The thesis will address the great challenge of integrating data from the multitude of often incompatible software systems that generate and track patient information. This problem is exacerbated as health systems expand their networks and expand care beyond hospitals and clinics into the community. The lack of interoperability often requires manual re-entry or searching for data between the different systems. The integration of these different data streams relieves the clinical staff, provides more comprehensive analyzes and enables a more coordinated orchestration of care in different environments.

“Our goal in partnering with Philips is to better serve our patients,” said Dr. Aaron Neinstein, Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of Clinical Informatics at the UCSF Center for Digital Health Innovation. “The services we enable on this platform help people more easily find the right provider for the care they need, and eliminate the worries and delays that people often experience. We know that people need convenient access to care because of their acute symptoms or chronic illnesses, and we can provide a broader, ongoing sense of support from their care team enabled through virtual and personal experiences throughout their care journey. ”

The jointly developed solutions will promote the coordination and the smooth flow of care across traditional boundaries of geography, the hospital or the place of care. “Over the past few years, UCSF Health has built a network of quality providers across the Bay Area who share our vision to make healthcare more accessible, affordable and personalized,” said Shelby Decosta, president of the UCSF Health Affiliates Network and chief strategy officer for UCSF health. “Our partnership with Philips will provide UCSF Health with navigation tools to bring this vision to life through our network of world-class hospitals, community clinics and outpatient departments and through virtual care.”

The agreement encompasses a combination of applied research and digital solutions implementation, ranging from developing advanced artificial intelligence algorithms and solutions for delivering virtual care to enable a more continuous, connected care experience, to connecting multiple hospitals to support the treatment journey better coordinate a patient. Partners will create and share best practices with the healthcare industry focused on advancing the quadruple goal: better healthcare at lower cost with improved outcomes while improving the experience for patients and staff.

“We must work together if we are to advance healthcare, and we are inspired by UCSF’s willingness to push the boundaries of technological innovation and transform the way we care for its patients,” said Vitor Rocha, chief market leader at Philips North America and Member of the Executive Committee. “As consumers, we rely on technology to make our lives easier; B. Trusting the cloud to manage our financials, commerce, and education. With this partnership, we aim to simplify healthcare in the same way and make technology solutions pay off in terms of patient time and health. ”
