Assertion From Mayor London Breed On The One-Yr Anniversary Of The Keep At Residence Order In San Francisco

March 17, 2021

San Francisco, CA. – Mayor of London N. Breed today released the following statement commemorating the one year anniversary of San Francisco’s Stay at Home Order. Mayor Breed announced the order on March 16, 2020 and it went into effect on March 17, 2020. At the time, there were 40 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in San Francisco.

“A year ago I said the Stay at Home Order was going to be a defining moment for our city, and it was certainly right. Although we weren’t entirely sure what was ahead, we trusted public health and Many of us stayed home to slow the spread of the virus in our community and our actions saved lives. Many others showed up to work every day and put their lives on the line. We couldn’t have done this year without them We are so grateful for their services and countless others who have protected us and kept our city going Victim.

Today is a day to reflect on all that we could achieve while working together, caring for each other and making decisions to protect the health of our neighbors and our entire city. Today is also a day to look at what lies ahead. When we first issued this order, I believed in the resilience of San Francisco and the people of that city. Over the past year, this belief has only grown stronger, as evidenced day by day through every act of selflessness for the common good. I have no doubt that if we can get through this, we can do anything.

I am hopeful for the future. I hope in our city. We are not out of this pandemic yet and there is still a lot of work to do. But as we look ahead and begin our journey to recovery, I feel confident that we can build a more just, just, and prosperous San Francisco. “
