9 charged in $1-million theft wave of luxurious shops in San Francisco

San Francisco Dist. Atty. Chesa Boudin said Tuesday he had charged nine people with crimes in a series of shoplifting incidents, including a mass busting of luxury stores in Union Square.
At least 40 thieves allegedly broke into a Louis Vuitton store Friday and packed whatever they could before loading it into a row of cars parked on the curb outside the door. The shoplifting caravan cut a swath of high-end San Francisco boutiques, creating a scene of mayhem as it stole over $ 1 million worth of merchandise.
Boudin said two of the nine people were charged with possession of firearms during the incident on Friday. He said the nine are charged with aggravated theft, commercial break-in and possession of stolen property at the crime level.
“These are not petty thefts. These are not illegal acts. That is criminal behavior, ”said Boudin. “We’re bringing a crime charge today.”
