$26 Million Oceanfront San Francisco Dwelling Promoting to Profit Nonprofits

A San Francisco home belonging to the founder of one of the earliest venture capital firms in the city listed for $26 million last week.

George Sarlo, 86, co-founder of Walden Capital Management, which invested in technology start-ups starting in 1974, bought the 1920s home in 1993 for $2.2 million, according to property records. Proceeds of the sale will support grants made by the Sarlo Family Foundation, according to Sotheby’s International Realty, which is marketing the home.

The Sarlo Family Foundation, which was formally established in 2011 to continue Sarlo’s philanthropic efforts, focuses on initiatives that aid the well-being of the Bay Area’s youth.
