It is a journey of self-discovery that puts participants in the spotlight and showered with the attention of a horde of adoring fans.

Therefore, it is no surprise that Kye Sones has ended his relationship with American beauty editor Halle Carlson.

The couple have apparently split ahead of 30-year-old chimney sweep Kye's debut on The X Factor live shows this weekend.

X Factor Kye Sones Halle Carlson Twitter appearance: Kye sang for judge Gary Barlow and guest mentor Cheryl Cole in the judges' houses

A source told The Sun: “Halle supported him all the way to bootcamp. But Kye believes X Factor will change his life forever and that it has given him the push he needed to end the relationship.”

The handsome star was reportedly mobbed by women at trendy London bar Whiskey Mist last week and received a lot of attention from fans of the show.

Cheryl and Gary: The duo chose Kye, Melanie and Carolynne to take part in the live shows after their performances in the judges' houses

The singer performed in the competition's house round in front of judge Gary Barlow and guest mentor Cheryl Cole.

Kye flirted with Cheryl during filming, but his biggest mistake is said to have been when he told the Geordie singer that he had a girlfriend.

The source added: “If he had a second chance with Cheryl, he would take it.”

A spokesperson for X Factor confirmed the couple's split to The Sun: “Kye and Halle have separated. They remain good friends.”

Kye recently told MailOnline that he feels confident as a contestant over 28, explaining that contestants in this category are more confident in both their style and their music.

“I know I've had every worst haircut in the world. You stick with what works for you. So when you say, 'How about this?' you're more likely to say, 'No, I've done that before and it didn't really work out.'”

“So you know who you are as a person and that goes for music as well. So that's something we're all very comfortable with. We all know who we're going to be in the future,” he added.

Kye, who is close friends with TV presenter Fearne Cotton, wowed the audience at his first audition with an impressive rendition of guest judge Rita Ora's single RIP.

He will appear in the first live show of The X Factor 2012 this Saturday alongside the 11 other finalists and one wildcard contestant.

Handsome: Kye's ex Halle Carlson reportedly stood by him during the judges' boot camp and house rounds. Friends: Gary and Kye have become friends and will be heading to the live shows this Saturday to begin the competition.

AT THE END of August Rob Harley released his album Big Tree. Previous singles include the title track Big Tree and Straight For Your Love which saw national coverage in the press and radio in Ireland.

Produced by Christian Best (Mick Flannery) in Cork, Big Tree was due to come out during Covid but lockdown pushed it back until now.

Big Tree – the album

What are you up to?

I am promoting my album Big Tree, which was released at the end of of August.

Which piece of music always sends a shiver down your spine?

A Day In The Life by The Beatles. It’s so unique, there’s no piece of music like it that captures so many genres in one song.

Which musician has most influenced you?

Lindsey Buckinham —an incredible guitarist using the Travis picking style which I try to incorporate into my own playing

Who would be in your ideal band?

Rory Gallagher, Lindsey Buckingham, John Entwistle, John Bonham

How did you get started in music?

I listened to a lot of music growing up from classical to rock, my older brother showed me my first couple of chords on the guitar and I was addicted from that point on, I had to know more!

Where are you from in Ireland, and what are your roots?

I was born in Croydon in London to Irish parents, we moved to San Francisco and then came back to Cork. My mother is from Cork and my father is from Donegal.

What’s on your smartphone playlist at the minute?

Bob Dylan, Ron Sexsmith and Beck

Football or art galleries?

Art galleries, I visit the Crawford art gallery in Cork a couple of times a year, lovely place for a sit down and a cup of coffee.

What is your favourite place in Ireland?

West Cork, I love going to Clonakilty there’s a great venue called DeBarras Folk Club there, then on to Connolly’s of Leap, another brilliant venue and then down to Baltimore.

What would be your motto?

It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness.

Mozart or Martin Hayes?

Martin Hayes all the way, I love the haunting Garrett Barry’s Jig on his latest album Peggy’s Dream.

Which living person do you most admire?

Paul McCartney, he’s just unstoppable, going on tour at 81 and keeps churning out brilliant music and looks great for it.

Who will act you when they make a film of your life?

Cillian Murphy a fellow Corkman, although it would be a bit of a step down after playing Oppenheimer!

Rob Harley

Who will you thank in your Grammy award acceptance speech?

I would like to thank my lovely partner Léan and daughter Fiadh.

If you weren’t a musician what other job would you be really good at?

I think I would be good at electrical repairs or plumbing, I’m pretty handy around the house.

What’s the worst piece of advice you’ve been given this year?

“Always stay the same, never change”. I think we have to evolve, especially when you have kids.

Have you a favourite line from a song?

“I ain’t a-saying you treated me unkind, you could have done better but I don’t mind, you just kinda wasted my precious time, but don’t think twice it’s alright” — Bob Dylan

In terms of inanimate objects, what is your most precious possession?

My guitar, it’s not a very expensive one but I’ve had it for a long time, it’s my workhorse.

What’s the best thing about where you live?

Cork is a city that is relatively small, you always meet someone you know walking down Patrick Street, and stop for a chat. Also there’s West Cork, and loads of beaches nearby.

. . . . and the worst?

The roads are in a pretty bad condition, and traffic in the city is awful.

What’s the greatest lesson life has taught you?

To always keep moving forward, as I say in my song When It’s Done, “you think on but don’t think back”.

What gives you the greatest laugh?

That would be my daughter Fiadh, she is the funniest little toddler and has the best laugh.

What do you believe in?

I believe in knowing your own value and believing in yourself.

What do you consider the greatest work of art?

The Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh, it’s such a spectacular alive watercolour that jumps off of the canvas.

Who/what is the greatest love of your life?

My daughter Fiadh is the greatest, she just gives me constant joy, happiness and I learn more about myself through her every day.

One moment please…

Moments before San Francisco Paramore fans could go wild to the mania-inducing bridge of the band’s 2007 hit “Misery Business,” Paramore abruptly stopped the song.

Casually jogging out onto the stage wearing a Paramore tour shirt and black denim vest covered in patches, Curry was visibly beaming as he approached each band member with an “I’m not worthy”-style, double-raised-hand bow motion before turning his attention to the ovation of a stunned audience for the rest of “Misery Business.”

Article continues below this ad

“How many people tonight have never been to a Paramore show?” lead singer Hayley Williams asked, pausing to react to a roaring crowd. “Well then, welcome to the family!”

Many in the crowd had flocked to Chase Center for the second time in two weeks for Paramore, whose show set for July 22 with teenage sensations The Linda Lindas was rescheduled less than two hours before its expected start due to Williams’ struggle with an ongoing lung infection.

“I’m sick you guys, I’m sorry.” Williams lamented after thanking the crowd for moving their schedules around to attend. “I’ve got my doctor stationed here who I might be running over to throughout the night, but I’m good!”

Impossible to see for most of the crowd, a large, casually dressed man sat on the inner step of the protective barricade facing the stage, as if receiving the VIP performance of a lifetime.

A super fan he was not — he was Williams’ doctor and would occasionally dart off to the side stages to tend to the 34-year-old front woman, closely monitoring her vocals and motions from his front-and-center seat to ensure that this leg of the tour would go on without a hitch.

And go on without a hitch it did, as Paramore stunned with a set list of 21 songs spanning their nearly 20-year career as touring musicians, an impressive feat for a trio in their early 30s.

“Retro Futurism” seemed to be the running theme of their stage show and immersive visual experience, which opened with a spoken-word piece, “Note to Self,” in which Williams’ voice played over an extraterrestrial soundtrack moments before the seven-piece band walked out onto the stage adorned with a mothership vessel hovering above them for a show filled with dazzling pyrotechnics, confetti drops, streamer cannon blasts and other epic visual displays.

Composed of multiple pieces jig-sawing together in various formations, the ship’s components rotated in different directions similar to a Rubik’s Cube.

Despite its “extraterrestrial” positioning, the design was aesthetically akin to something that midcentury architect Frank Lloyd Wright would have designed rather than your typical arena concert set.

Starting off strong with “You First,” they blasted into “The News” and hit “That’s What You Get,” as well as other crowd favorites like “Rose-Colored Boy,” which Williams remixed with a snippet of Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and Mariah Carey’s “Fantasy” toward the end.

A nod to her impressive vocal range, Williams is a bona fide star whose fans speckled the crowd with homemade signs — throwing gifts, handmade fan art and friendship bracelets onstage, a rare sight at a hard rock band’s show.

Perhaps a nod to her friendships with Taylor Swift, Williams was wearing a pink-and-red beaded friendship necklace that seemingly clashed with her custom-made stage outfit. Throughout the 90-minute set, she flexed into high kicks, backbends and impressive spontaneous dance moves, looking equal parts Brigitte Bardot and Wednesday Addams.

The platinum blonde lead singer upheld the retro-futurism vibe with her ensemble. She was giving go-go girl meets figure skater meets the Rockettes, with long eyelashes, bouffant hair and dramatic 1960s-style eyeliner visible far away from the stage.

Williams took plenty of time to give her voice a break and speak to the audience as if getting together with old friends, laughing more than once about the incel culture that plagues her day to day online.

“Enough of this small-dick energy!” she proclaimed to a roaring laughter.

“It’s like, do they want me to just be less good?” she joked.

“Because I’ve been making music with my best friends since we were 13 or 14 years old. It’s like … why can’t we rise up to the same level and all just be incredible together?”

At the midway point of the set, the three original members of Paramore, including guitarist Taylor York and drummer Zac Farro, absconded to the side stages, only to reappear moments later for intimate performances of “Last Hope,” “Big Man, Little Dignity,” “Liar,” and Williams’ solo piece, “Crystal Clear.”

The band picked the pace back up again with crowd favorite “Hard Times,” despite having to briefly leave the stage due to a non-life-threatening medical emergency in the audience.

Equal parts punk rock, hardcore, electroclash, disco, ’90s alternative rock and pop, Paramore positively dazzled during their at-capacity arena gig last night, showcasing the nearly two-decade-long span they’ve spent as a band touring, making music and being best friends.

“The Masked Singer” revealed two stars at Wednesday’s season 9 premiere, one of whom is her oldest contestant ever.

Dick Van Dyke, 97, was the first of two celebrities to reveal himself to judges Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger and Robin Thicke.

The premiere was previously touted as “the most legendary, decorated and popular unmasking in history” due to Van Dyke’s age.

Van Dyke was masked as a gnome and sang a rendition of Billie Holiday’s “When You’re Smiling”.

The jury suspected Tony Bennett and Dustin Hoffman, but quickly found out it was Van Dyke, who also sang Frank Sinatra’s “When You’re Smiling”.

After he was eliminated, Van Dyke sang a little “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” from Mary Poppins, in which he played the chimney sweep Bert.

The ‘The Dick Van Dyke Show’ star brought Scherzinger to tears when he revealed himself. She said to him, “I love you so much. We love you. The whole world loves you so much. It’s an honor to have you on our show. I can’t believe you’re here. I’m trying to keep my cool, but you look so gorgeous. You look so good.”

Jeong added that it was the “biggest reveal ever” on the show.
