Illegal sideshows took to the streets of San Francisco and Oakland overnight.

In San Francisco, around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, cars and crowds gathered near the corner of Dolores Street and 16th Street.

The San Francisco Police Department responded shortly thereafter to break up the incident.

A few hours later, on Sunday, there was a sideshow in Oakland near 6th Street and Market Street.

It would eventually move to 45th Street and Market. At one point, people lit a ring of fire in the middle of the intersection.

Oakland Police Department told NBC Bay Area Sunday that they towed several vehicles and cited several drivers when they broke up the sideshow.

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — San Francisco Police responded to this sideshow scene at 12:41 in the morning Sunday. Drivers were speeding in circles and a crowd of spectators had their cell phone cameras up at Harrison and Maine Street.

Residents in San Francisco’s South Beach neighborhood say this isn’t the first time a sideshow has happened there. If burning rubber and squealing tires continue, they’re moving out.

“People were parking and walking up, it was a madhouse,” resident Will Decker said. “It was a very scary situation for someone like me who didn’t know what was going on.”

Police responded to a side show at Geneva Ave and Germany just after 1:00 am on Sunday. Then, another hour later on 13th St. and South Van Ness Ave.

“Just to do that in the middle of San Francisco where we have a lot of residential people trying to get a goodnight sleep after a work week, not the place to do that,” Decker said.

Dozens of vehicles and spectators were dispersed at all three locations. A marked police car was even vandalized by a vehicle fleeing the scene at 13th St. and South Van Ness.

“Little reckless to do it on a public street in the middle of the city especially,” Bence Lazar of San Mateo said.

Sirens can be heard in the background of a sideshow near the Bay Bridge and right next to the Gabby Market and Deli.

“Everybody is talking about it,” Sam Habash the owner Gabby Market and Deli said. “Some people are saying right now we might have to sell and leave. We thought this neighborhood was supposed to be one of the best neighborhoods.”

He says wants more of a police presence around his store to stop the sideshows before they start.

“We need a small police station in this neighborhood at least to protect this neighborhood,” Habash said.

San Francisco Police say no arrests have been made, but officers are still working to investigate all three sideshows with the goal of arresting the suspects and seizing their vehicles.

SAN FRANCISCO – The infamous illegal auto shows known as Sideshows are moving to some of the quieter neighborhoods of San Francisco. Sideshows took place almost at the same time in the west of the city.

Neighbors say they see more and more of the illegal car shows and the burned-out rubber they leave on the city zebra crossings.

At one point, you can see several cars burning rubber and someone getting up from a car’s lunar roof and spinning donuts. The sideshow started after midnight and lasted more than 15 minutes before police broke it up.

Another sideline was being held at about the same time at Lawton and 30th Avenue, just 10 minutes’ drive away. In a viral video filmed at the crime scene, a young woman can be seen trying not to be hit by a spinning car.

San Francisco police released a statement confirming both sideshow and said officials arrived at both scenes at 12:40 p.m. and 12:50 p.m. and dispersed the crowd. Police said, “We currently have no arrest or summons to report.”

San Franciscans say these newest sideshow in quiet, residential neighborhoods are shocking not necessarily surprising. They say they happen more often across town.

“Yes, last week our son had basketball near St. Brendan’s and during training around 8:00 am, the smell of burning tires came into the gym, disrupting training, closing doors and so on,” said Marty Gähwiler.

Local residents say that with the recent mass raids, they fear the sideshow is a symptom of bigger problems in the city. “Yeah, it’s kind of a general outlaw trend, right?” said Gähwiler. “You know, mass slumps, mass sideline shows. You know, I think we need different approaches to dealing with these quality of life issues.”

Police say if residents hear or witness a sideshow, call 911 or the police emergency number.
