The trust Kyle Shanahan has in Jimmy Garoppolo seems to look and sound vague.

The head coach of the San Francisco 49ers watched his team suffer a sloppy 30:18 home loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, October 24, and witnessed his quarterback throw two late interceptions through the rainy Bay Area skies .

Losing 12 points gave the 49ers their fourth straight defeat. The moment the question was put to Shanahan whether Jimmy G is the man who goes forward, Shanahan gave that answer.

“I would guess,” said Shanahan, heard at 3:15 in the post-game press downstairs.

game

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan talks about Jimmy Garoppolo’s future as the team’s starting QB | CBS Spor …Hear from 49ers manager Kyle Shanahan after his team lost to the Colts in Sunday Night Football.
The 41-year-old head coach then added that his assessment will be done in the movie room and when reviewing the squad’s available health.

“I’ll look at this tape and see if the boys are healthy first. I don’t even know where our boys are, ”Shanahan said. “It was good for Jimmy to get healthy enough today to play in this game.”

Shanahan indicates fights

Shanahan didn’t want to blame it on the rainfall, which brought a torrent to the grass at Levi Stadium and made football slippery.

His attack only made 181 yards through the rain … and not a single finish went beyond 30 yards.

“I think we had a lot of trouble throwing and catching a lot more than they did, that’s what it looked like,” Shanahan said. “I didn’t think there were a lot of bad choices. Just missed a couple of litters. Obviously he missed the ball a couple of times. “

While Deebo Samuel was a ray of hope for the 49ers with his 7-catch, 100-yard and one touchdown evening, Garoppolo targeted him the most with 11 attempts on his side – including that late interception with three Colt defenders nearby and Xavier Rhodes who snap up The Pick.

In the evening, the 49ers flipped the ball four times. However, Shanahan didn’t spend all of his press answering whether or not to remain committed to Garoppolo or not to return to rookie Trey Lance.

“I have a whole team to worry about,” Shanahan said. “Don’t just think about what the quarterback situation is like right now. I’ll evaluate everything, see where our team stands, see what gives us the best chance of beating Chicago, and see what our options are. You go into this every week and figure out your options. We had two quarterbacks injured this week. Jimmy could come back and play. We’ll see if Trey can (play) next week, we’re not sure yet, but I have a lot of things to find out. “

Jimmy G says 49ers must “execute”

Meanwhile, Garoppolo admits that the act begins with him.

“I don’t have a specific thing. Whatever game is called, we have to go out there and play it, ”said Garoppolo. “It’s about investing more time and effort, staying longer, more hours, the little things at this point. The NFL is a crazy thing. One week you’ll be at the top and the next at the bottom. Every team has its ups and downs and we are currently at the bottom, but we can defend ourselves. “

And what about the morale of Jimmy G and the now 2-4 49ers?

“We are a close team at the moment. It starts with me, no doubt, ”said Garoppolo. “But we have a good group of guys and we have to get back to work.”

All eyes are on the San Francisco 49ers heading into the 2021 NFL Draft. After rising from # 12 to # 3, the NFL media is focused on which quarterback general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan will pick.

We’ve heard several draft experts and NFL insiders share their views since the trade, and many of them believe the Niners Alabamas will take Mac Jones. But Justin Fields and Trey Lance remain fascinating options that could be the QB of the future for the franchise.

The anticipation for the draft of April 29th continues to grow and we will finally receive an answer on this date. But that’s just the beginning of a couple of years of full pressure for Lynch and Shanahan.

San Francisco is entering its fifth season, with the duo in charge. Lynch and Shanahan were playing for housekeeping when they took over in 2017, with a squad that ran out of talent thanks to former general manager Trent Baalke.

Fans knew they had to be patient as Lynch and Shanahan rebuilt the roster and culture. The 49ers took a 6-10 lead in 2017 – largely thanks to Jimmy Garoppolo, who won his last five starts of the season – and expectations rose the following season.

All hopes for a playoff spot were gone after week 3 of the 2018 campaign when Garoppolo suffered a torn ACL. The Niners went 2-14, but their consolation prize was the opportunity to pick a phenomenal defender in Nick Bosa.

With a healthy Garoppolo and Bosa, San Francisco grew into a juggernaut in 2019, went 13: 3 and ran to the Super Bowl. Since then, expectations of the franchise have changed.

The success of the 2019 campaign put the 49ers in the top tier of the NFL and they were viewed as the Super Bowl favorites for the 2020 season. Unfortunately, thanks to an unprecedented number of injuries, the team never had a chance to defend their NFC crown.

The Niners were among the busiest teams in the off-season. Lynch and Shanahan have signed several key freelance agents including Trent Williams, Kyle Juszczyk, Jason Verrett, Emmanuel Moseley and Jaquiski Tartt. They also went outside the building to sign former all-pro center Alex Mack and pass-rusher Samson Ebukam.

It looked like the plan was to run it back with a healthy Garoppolo and several players from the 2019 squad still in action. That changed, however, on March 26th when the Niners closed the deal with the Miami Dolphins to climb to # 3. San Francisco abandoned their No. 12 pick this season, 2022 and 2023 in the first round, as well as a third-place finisher in 2022.

The move was taken to select the QB of the future and signaled that Garoppolo is not part of the team’s long-term plans.

With the trade, the pressure has increased on Lynch and Shanahan to host a championship in the coming seasons. The 49ers gave up significant assets to acquire their future QB that they cannot afford to blow the selection.

Lynch will be signed until 2024, while Shanahan’s contract expires a year later. If Jones, Fields, or Lance turn out to be broke, we probably won’t see any of them close down their deals.

Jed York gave the duo expansions because they clearly believe in the direction the team is headed for, but that could change if we don’t see which rookie QB they pick turns into a top 10 NFL signal caller.

Recent history has not side with Lynch and Shanahan when it comes to teams that have acted. Shanahan and his father Mike were with the Washington Football team when the organization faced Robert Griffin III in 2012. After a spectacular season of rookies, Griffin fell back to earth due to injuries and various other reasons. Washington left at 3:13 in 2013, and most of the coaching and front office staff were laid off.

Both the Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia Eagles rose in 2016 to choose their future quarterbacks. Les Snead orchestrated the deal to make the best pick for Jared Goff, who was sold to the Detroit Lions against veteran Matthew Stafford last off-season.

Jeff Fisher was the Rams head coach for 13 games during Goff’s rookie campaign before he was fired. Snead has stayed as GM, largely due to the fact that LA has made the playoffs for three of the past four seasons, including a trip to the Super Bowl in 2018.

The Eagles switched from head coach Doug Pederson after last season, though the team won the Super Bowl in 2017 and was in the postseason for two of the following three seasons. Philadelphia also cut ties with Carson Wentz and traded him for the Indianapolis Colts.

It will be interesting to see what happens to Lynch and Shanahan when their choices stall and turn out to be a failure. The New York Jets ended the Sam Darnold experiment just three years after moving up to # 3 in 2018. The franchise itself is a mockery of the NFL teams and cleaned the house after a 2:14 win last season.

Snead and Howie Roseman are the only GMs staying with their teams, while none of the coaches who were promoted to the top 3 at the time their organization rose to last more than five seasons.

If Jones, Fields, or Lance are unsuccessful, it’s hard to see how Lynch and Shanahan will fare through their current contracts. It looks like the Niners are committed to keeping Garoppolo for at least one more season, but that could change if another team offers a high draft pick for the QB in the coming weeks.

When it does, the pressure on Lynch, Shanahan, and any rookie who takes on QB immediately mounts. With Williams, Bosa, George Kittle and Fred Warner on the roster, the 49ers are built to win now. Without a competent QB, San Francisco has little chance of winning the elusive sixth Lombardi trophy.

It will be fascinating to see how this plays out in the years to come. Lynch and Shanahan are clearly pleased with this year’s harvest of QB prospects, and given the capital they have given up, they’d better be right or we could see another house clean within a few years.

How many seasons do you think Lynch and Shanahan will be if number 3 turns out to be a broke?

Photo courtesy of the San Francisco 49ers

The Athletic’s Mike Sando made his round of the league asking about the San Francisco 49ers who traded to # 3 overall to pick a quarterback. Even if the two best picks are viewed as bans – Trevor Lawrence for the Jacksonville Jaguars and Zach Wilson for the New York Jets – no one is really sure about the 49ers’ plan.

There is speculation – a lot of it.

Given its history with quarterbacks like Kirk Cousins and Matt Ryan, many believe that San Francisco was traded in for Mac Jones of Alabama. Two NFL executives who spoke to Sando can see that. Whether or not they agree with the possible choices is a different story.

“I heard you think really seriously about Mac Jones and it would blow my mind,” one of the executives told Sando. “If you’d asked Alabama who their starting quarterback would be a year ago, it wouldn’t have been Mac Jones.”

A third manager isn’t sure Jones is the reason the 49ers dropped multiple first-round picks to jump to the top of the draft regulation.

“I don’t think they rose for Mac Jones,” the nameless person told Sando. “I think it’s North Dakota State (Lance) but it could be Ohio State (Fields). They keep Garoppolo for a year, redshirt the rookie and then if everything goes according to plan they have a Kansas City situation with them Mahomes.

“I suspect Carolina or Denver pull the trigger on Mac Jones or the bears go up, but I’m not buying Kyle Shanahan, who goes up to three for Mac Jones.”

That should come as a relief for 49ers fans who feel that Jones could have been acquired with a lower range – or they didn’t want Jones at all. There seems to be a range in giving so much draft capital to a player whose cap may be lower than Justin Fields or Trey Lance’s.

Obviously, this is a choice that will change the franchise and that Shanahan and General Manager John Lynch will have to make. Failure could be devastating for the organization.

Throughout the off-season, the San Francisco 49ers have insisted that Jimmy Garoppolo stay on the team’s plans for at least 2021. You haven’t wavered even after trading until the third stop in the upcoming draft, presumably to pick a future quarterback. “Jimmy is here to stay. He’s our guy this year,” a 49ers source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Keeping Garoppolo for at least one more season might make sense, even after San Francisco picks up one of the top quarterback candidates in this year’s draft class. The team can afford it after clearing some salary caps. Should the 49ers land a Trey Lance or Justin Fields, the young quarterback could sit for a season

It sounds like the majority of the NFL believes that the San Francisco 49ers, who climbed from 12th to 3rd last week, should have the right to draw Alabama quarterback Mac Jones, not Justin Fields the state of Ohio or Trey Lance from Alabama North Dakota State. Of course, maybe that’s exactly what the 49ers want the league to be. There are so many fog screens in the design that it is difficult to predict what might happen. That’s part of the appeal. Even so, NFL Media’s draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah revealed what a lot of people in the league are hearing – that head coach Kyle Shanahan and San Francisco Jones, who most believe they are the fifth best quarterback in this year’s draft class, covet. “Well I think the majority of the people in the league
