The body of a Florida woman who disappeared more than a week ago had been found in her septic tank – and her handyman was arrested for murder.

Police began searching for Cynthia Cole, 57, in the tank just hours after their handyman Keoki Hilo Demich was arrested Friday night.

After several hours of excavation, her body was discovered in the cesspool buried in her backyard on the 4500 block of NE Skyline Drive in Jensen Beach.

Demich, 34, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

Cole, who walked past Cyndi, has been missing for over a week and was last seen at a Jammin Jensen event on February 24.

Scroll down for videos

Cynthia Cole’s body, pictured, was found in the septic tank in her backyard on Friday night. Suspect Keoki Hilo Demich, Cole’s handyman who was arrested and charged in connection with her murder of Martin County Sheriff William Snyder, and investigators dig in Cynthia Cole’s backyard March 4-5, 2022, a week after the woman went missing was reported

Demich had been employed by Cole as a handyman for the last few years.

He was the only person investigators were suspicious of after she was reported missing.

“He made several statements that we know to be false, so he was charged with second-degree murder,” said Martin County Sheriff William Snyder.

Snyder added that ring cameras and security footage near Cole’s home shows Demich exiting Cole’s car near Demich’s home in Stuart on the same night Cole was last seen.

According to Snyder, there were several other instances in which Demich was caught on cameras near Cole’s vehicle.

Cole, who walked past Cyndi, has been missing for over a week and was last seen at a Jammin Jensen event on February 24. Cole, pictured, was likely murdered at her home before her body was placed in the septic tank, authorities said Cole had hired Demich to be her handyman in recent years

After several hours of digging, they finally pulled Cole’s body out of the septic tank early Saturday morning.

“I’ve been doing this for over 40 years. I’ve never seen anything like it,” Snyder said.

Meanwhile, Snyder said detectives are still gathering evidence, adding that Demich could face additional charges.

Evidence gathered so far suggests that Cole was likely murdered in her home before her body was placed in the septic tank.

The body has yet to be positively identified by the coroner’s office, but authorities say they have every reason to believe they discovered Cole’s body.

A handyman accused of killing a Jensen Beach woman and then hiding her body in a septic tank has pleaded guilty to murder and will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Keoki Demich, 34, was sentenced to three consecutive life terms Tuesday for the murder of Cynthia Cole earlier this year.

By pleading guilty, prosecutors agreed to waive their notice to seek the death penalty.

Demich will serve three life sentences for first-degree murder, burglary of an occupied dwelling with assault or battery and sexual battery. He was also convicted of third-degree grand theft and grand theft of a motor vehicle.

Cole’s body was found March 5 submerged in the septic tank — about 4 feet underground — after hours of excavation.

The 57-year-old woman had been missing for more than a week after attending the Jammin’ Jensen event in downtown Jensen Beach.

Demich was a longtime handyman for Cole.

According to court documents, Demich hid inside Cole’s shower while waiting for her to return home.

Records show he attacked her, drowned her inside her bathtub and then proceeded to sexually abuse her before burying her inside the septic tank.

Sheriff William Snyder said investigators secured surveillance video that showed Demich walking away from Cole’s car on the night she disappeared.

Evidence collected thus far suggests that Cole was likely murdered in her home before her body was placed in the septic tank.

The body has yet to be positively identified by the medical examiner’s office, however authorities say they have every reason to believe that they discovered Cole’s body.

The body of a missing Florida woman was found in a septic tank behind her home after she was allegedly killed and dumped there by her handyman, according to police.

Keoki Hilo Demich, 34, was charged with murdering Cynthia Cole, 57, who went missing shortly after attending an art festival in Jensen Beach over a week ago, the Martin County sheriff said on Facebook Saturday.

Cops allegedly found doorbell camera footage of Demich leaving Cole’s Jeep near her home the night she was last seen and arrested him on Friday, according to WPBF News.

Police investigate the crime scene where Cynthia Cole’s body was found. “I’ve never seen anything like it,” Martin County Sheriff William Snyder told the outlet.Facebook/Martin County Sheriff’s

Deputies searched her property and noticed the top of a septic tank in her backyard was ajar — then looked inside and found Cole’s body submerged in the cesspool, police said.

“I’ve been doing this 40-plus years. I’ve never seen anything like it,” Martin County Sheriff William Snyder told the outlet.

Police say Demich, who had reportedly worked for Cole for several years, likely murdered her in her home before dropping her into the septic tank.

When they arrived at the property, they didn’t see any signs of a struggle, but they did notice a shotgun in a bedroom. Eventually, they learned that it had been given to her by Jason Garland, a handyman that Cole had employed. When asked about the gun, Garland said that he had given it to her because she had been “afraid” but didn’t elaborate.

During the search, officials also found her cell phone. Later, they retrieved text messages between Cole and Demich, another handyman who had completed work for her. One message, in particular, that was sent after the concert stated that she would call him on Saturday. It also revealed that she had sent him some money through Cash App. However, when they looked through Demich’s phone, they could not locate the text, leading them to believe that it had been deleted.

The body of a Florida woman was found by deputies in a septic tank buried in her backyard, and her handyman has been charged with killing her, authorities said Saturday.

Investigators in Jensen Beach, Florida found a body believed to be that of Cynthia Cole, submerged in the septic tank 4 feet underground after hours of excavating her back yard late Friday, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.

BODY OF MISSING JENSEN BEACH WOMAN FOUND, HANDYMAN CHARGED WITH MURDER Late Friday evening and into Saturday morning,…

Posted by Martin County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday, March 5, 2022

Shortly after finding the body, deputies arrested her handyman, Keoki Hilo Demich, who was charged with second-degree murder. Cole, 57, had been missing for more than a week.

No further details were provided. Jensen Beach is almost 50 miles north of West Palm Beach.

“There are elements to this case still being investigated,” the post said. “Positive identification of the body by the medical examiner’s office is expected shortly, however, detectives have every reason to believe it is that of Ms. Cole. We will update the community with additional information as it becomes available.”

There was no online court record available for Demich, so it was unknown if he had an attorney.

The sheriff’s office said Coles was last seen wearing an orange shirt on February 24 at an event in Downtown Jensen Beach. Cole’s friends told WPEC-TV they knew something was wrong when they didn’t hear from Cole after the event.

“She doesn’t drink. She doesn’t do any of that, so we were all like she is missing or something is really wrong,” said Victoria Boyd, a longtime friend.

Friends told the station Cole was a loving mother and vibrant friend.

“She was one of those people,” Boyd said. “You couldn’t meet her and not love her.”

Cole was last seen alive on Thursday, February 24, at an event in Downtown Jensen Beach.

According to the MCSO, detectives spent hours excavating Cole’s backyard late Friday night and early Saturday morning and located the body submerged in the contents of the tank about four feet underground.

Shortly afterward, detectives located and arrested 34-year-old Keoki Hilo Demich and charged him with second-degree murder. Demich performed handyman duties for Cole.

“He made several statements that we know are false, so he was charged with second-degree murder,” said Snyder.

The body has not been positively identified by the medical examiner’s office but police said they “have every reason to believe” it’s Cole.

Cole, who went by Cyndi, was last seen with friends at the Jammin Jensen festival on Feb. 24.
