The Miami Marlins’ first three-city road trip of the season has come to an end and it ended on a high note after some early concerns.

Overall the Marlins went 5-5 during their 10-game trek that included going 1-2 against the San Francisco Giants, 1-3 against the Colorado Rockies and a three-game sweep of the Los Angeles Angels. They return to Miami with a 28-26 record as they prepare for a nine-game homestand before embarking on another three-city road trip.

“It’s huge,” Marlins manager Skip Schumaker said. “I’ve always said you want to try to get to at least .500 on the road and win at home. It didn’t look great coming into the series after Colorado and San Fran, but credit to the guys.”

Here are 10 thoughts, stats and observations from the Marlins’ road trip.

The offense is getting its hits…: The Marlins recorded 105 hits over the 10-game road trip, including a franchise record six consecutive game with at least 11 hits. Miami now ranks eighth in MLB with a team .258 batting average.

… But still needs to find ways to consistently score runs: Despite averaging more than 10 hits per game, Miami only scored 45 runs over the 10 games — a 4.5 runs per game average. That’s nearly a run per game improvement over their 3.6 runs per game mark heading into the road trip but it could have been so much more if not for going 24 for 97 with runners in scoring position (.247 average), stranding 82 runners and grounding into 15 double plays.

Jorge Soler is mashing: Soler hit home runs in six of 10 games on this road trip, including a run of five consecutive games that matches the longest streak in MLB this season. Overall, the outfielder/designated hitter

What a start from Jonathan Davis: The Marlins acquired Davis from the Detroit Tigers on Monday in a minor-league deal, added him to the roster on Tuesday and then started him in the outfield each of the next five games. All he did was hit .364 (8 for 22), draw three walks and score six runs. He had back-to-back three-hit games in his first two starts after never having one in any of his previous 171 MLB games over five seasons.

Story continues

Schumaker needs to find ways keep Yuli Gurriel in the lineup consistently: Gurriel, who has primarily been used off the bench and in spot starts when Garrett Cooper needs a day off, was dominant on the road trip. He safely reached base in all seven games he started and hit .481 (13 for 27) with one double, two triples and four walks (including two intentional walks) while striking out just three times.

Braxton Garrett making presence known: The 25-year-old lefty had two dominant outings on the road trip, tossing 6 1/3 shutout innings against the Giants on May 20 and holding the Rockies to two runs over five innings.

Overall, the Marlins’ starting pitching posted a 4.00 ERA on the road trip (24 earned runs over 54 innings pitched). They went at least five innings in nine of 10 games and had three total quality starts (one apiece from Garrett, Sandy Alcantara and Edward Cabrera).

The bullpen is getting a well deserved day off: Miami managed to make it through the entire 10-day trip without having to make a roster move to alleviate the bullpen, but that doesn’t mean it was easy.

Andrew Nardi pitched in six games, Tanner Scott five (including three consecutive games), Steven Okert five (including two sets of back-to-backs), Dylan Floro four (including three consecutive games), JT Chargois five, Matt Barnes four, Bryan Hoeing four (all on consecutive days) and Huascar Brazoban three. Most of those innings were high-leverage situations as well.

It’s safe to say they are going to enjoy the off day Monday.

“Off days are nice,” Scott said.

Reinforcements could be on their way soon: Outfielder Jesus Sanchez is three games into a rehab assignment with Triple A Jacksonville. Fellow outfielder Avisail Garcia is expected to start one on Monday. Left-handed starting pitcher Trevor Rogers begins a rehab assignment next week with Single A Jupiter. And closer A.J. Puk threw a bullpen on Saturday that went well.

Catchers are starting to hit: Jacob Stallings and Nick Fortes combined to hit 13 for 39 (.333) with two home runs, three doubles, six RBI and five runs scored on the road trip. Offensive production from the catcher spot had been lacking for the Marlins so far this season, so this road trip served as a bright spot in that regard.

Miami is still in a good spot in the standings: The Marlins head to Memorial Day two games above .500 and in second place in the National League East. They have a chance to make more moves at home over the next week and a half when they host the San Diego Padres, Oakland Athletics and Kansas City Royals.

Jorge Soler has now homered in 8 of @Baby_Jesus9 11 starts, including 2 multi-HR games.

It’s only fair he treat him to 10 double doubles for each one on our last night on the west coast. pic.twitter.com/vcAzwnC7vS

Luzardo gets Soler his dinner

Jesus Luzardo made it known a few starts ago that he owes Jorge Soler dinner.

Why?

Seemingly every time Luzardo is on the mound, Soler hits a home run.

Well, it happened again on Friday, with Soler sending a near middle-middle Reid Detmers changeup a projected 425 feet to straightaway center field in the third inning of the Marlins’ 6-2 win over the Angels.

Overall, Soler has at least one home run in eight of Luzardo’s 11 starts and 10 home runs total.

So… where did Luzardo end up taking Soler?

“We’re going to In-N-Out,” Luzardo said. “He can get as many double-doubles as he wants. He’s getting as much In-N-Out as he can eat.”

The final tally of burgers purchased: 10, one for each home run Soler has hit for Luzardo.

Soler didn’t want anything else?

“Only In-N-Out,” Soler said with a smile. “I’m fine with that.”

After a series win against the New York Mets, the Atlanta Braves are headed to the West Coast to start a long, ten-game road trip that will see them visit San Francisco, Denver, and Los Angeles. The start of the trip features another weekend set against the Giants, from whom the Braves took two of three a few days ago.

A rough August has driven the Giants into a dogfight for the final Wild Card spot in what is a nastily-crowded playoff race. The Giants are half a game out of a playoff spot at present, tied with the division rival Diamondbacks. The thing is, there are six teams within a 4.5-game spread for all three Wild Card spots in the NL at present, so it’s just a mess. The Giants haven’t helped matters, as they’ve gone 5-12 over their last 17 games, turning what looked like a comfortable path to a playoff spot into a sticky situation. On August 3, the Giants sat at 61-49 and just 2.5 games behind the Dodgers, but now any division-related dreams are long gone and a playoff spot is far from a sure thing.

While the Giants have a decent group of position players, they lack the star player that can carry a lineup. The position player leaders in fWAR, Thairo Estrada and Patrick Bailey, are more known for their defense than offense, and Estrada’s xwOBA is under .300. Their two best hitters, meanwhile, have been Wilmer Flores and LaMonte Wade Jr., but both don’t really provide defensive value.

While the Giants have struggled, the Braves have been hot again, going 15-7 in August so far. The pitching has been exceptional this month, with seven shutouts already, including one last night against the Mets. They also shut out the Giants last Friday, the third of three in a row. It’s not like the Braves have really needed the dominant pitching, either, since they have the most position player fWAR in August, but as has been the case for much of the year, there’s just an embarrassment of riches rolling around this roster.

Friday, August 25, 10:15 p.m. ET (Bally Sports Southeast)

Spencer Strider (25 GS, 146.1 IP, 38.2 K%, 7.7 BB%, 34.2 GB%, 3.57 ERA, 2.87 FIP)

After his blowup start in Pittsburgh, Spencer Strider has bounced back brilliantly, delivering 14 scoreless innings in his last two starts. His last start came against these very Giants, where he threw seven scoreless innings while striking out 10 and allowing one hit and one walk. After seven scoreless against the Mets where he did not have his best stuff, Strider had his “A” game against the Giants. He will look to use his overwhelming fastball-slider combo to once again stifle San Francisco. When it comes to getting strikeouts, Strider is the undisputed king, having 32 more strikeouts than any other pitcher in baseball, despite only ranking 21st in innings pitched. His fastball and slider both get exceptional whiff numbers, which puts hitters at his mercy. He has 100 strikeouts on the fastball and 111 strikeouts on his slider. The young right-hander has ten double-digit strikeout games, and eight more where he struck out nine batters.

Logan Webb (26 GS, 169 IP, 24.2 K%, 3.9 BB%, 60.7 GB%, 3.36 ERA, 3.27 FIP)

Logan Webb has had a stellar year, combining very good stats with elite volume, putting together a season that has him in Cy Young contention. (Interestingly, he actually leads baseball in pitching WARP, but isn’t that close to the top in fWAR.) In his start against the Braves last week, he ate six innings, but was not at his best, allowing a homer with a 5/0 K/BB ratio. Webb relies on getting ground balls and avoiding walks, with his 60.7 grounder rate and 3.9 walk rate both among the best in baseball.

Webb’s had a bit of a rough stretch of luck since the All-Star Break: he was at a 74 ERA-, 77 FIP-, and 67 xFIP- through it, and 93/82/unchanged 67 since.

Saturday, August 26, 4:05 p.m. ET (Bally Sports Southeast, FS1)

Max Fried (9 GS, 47.2 IP, 23.2 K%, 4.6 BB%, 61 GB%, 2.83 ERA, 3.10 FIP)

The Giants fared better against Max Fried compared to their hopeless performance against Strider. In his outing against the Giants last week, Fried went 5 2⁄3 innings, allowing three runs on nine hits. It was kind of a weird outing for him, as he allowed two homers for just the 13th multihomer game of his career, but still managed a 6/1 K/BB ratio.

Fried’s stats since returning from the Injured List are pretty much what you’d expect in aggregate (84/74/69), but those are heavily weighted by him dominating the Cubs, as the line changes to 116/96/86 in his last three starts. His contact management (.318 xwOBA-against) in those three starts hasn’t been up to his usual, essentially best-in-class standards, but as you can probably tell, he’s just been victimized by balls in play and his defense, with a .390 wOBA-against in the same span. He’ll be just fine, and it’s actually pretty impressive how he hasn’t missed much of a beat despite the long layoff.

The Giants starter is to be determined but it is likely that they will have a bullpen day, a tactic the Giants use a lot. Sean Manaea, Jakob Junis and Tristan Beck are guys who might see multiple innings in a bullpen game. The Braves saw a fair bit of Junis and Beck in Atlanta, and Manaea’s pitched great since moving to a bulk role.

Sunday, August 27, 7:10 p.m. ET (ESPN)

The Braves starter for Sunday’s game is to be determined. They have a ton of options that have all already drawn starts this year, but it seems like Collin McHugh or Michael Tonkin will probably have a big role in the game as well.

Kyle Harrison (1 GS, 3.1 IP, 31.3 K%, 6.3 BB%, 11.1 GB%, 5.40 ERA, 5.97 FIP)

While it has yet to be announced, Sunday is rookie Kyle Harrison’s spot in the rotation. Harrison is the number one prospect in the Giants organization and has put up obscene strikeout numbers in his minor league career. In 279 1⁄3 minor league innings, Harrison has 452 strikeouts, or 14.6 K/9. He gets those numbers with an elite fastball-slider combo. His mid-90s fastball gets on hitters quickly due to his low arm slot and his low 80s sweeping slider is also a massive whiff generator. He had trouble with control this year in Triple-A, walking 6.6 batters per nine innings, so a patient approach could cause problems for the young pitcher. In his big league debut, Harrison went 3.1 innings against the Phillies, allowing two earned runs while allowing five hits and generating five strikeouts to one walk. He somehow got just one grounder to eight balls in the air in that game, which might make him a fine fit for his home ballpark but is a really dangerous way to try and survive.

TORONTO — Brandon Belt said before the start of this series that he hoped to beat Logan Webb and joked, “I just want to embarrass his whole family.” The former Giants first baseman certainly did his best and batted at his 739 total feet of flyballs in their first two appearances, but Toronto didn’t have to leave the stadium to beat Webb harder than any other team this season.

The Blue Jays brought nine men to the plate and tagged Webb for five runs in the first inning, putting the Giants in a rare hole that proved too deep to climb out. The Giants lost the middlegame of their series 6-1 and lost away at Oracle Park for the first time since Memorial Day weekend. They broke a San Francisco-era record of 10 consecutive away wins.

A night after the Giants defeated the Blue Jays’ top starter Kevin Gausman with a game of bullpen, Toronto dosed San Francisco with the same medicine. A quartet of Blue Jays relievers limited the Giants to one run on six hits — three by LaMonte Wade Jr. — or the number Toronto hit in the first inning alone.

Austin Slater, coming on for Michael Conforto (left hamstring strain) early in the second half, made the Giants’ only run with a 402-foot solo shot over Tim Horton’s shield in right midfield. The Giants only got two other runners into goal position, Wade with a wild pitch after his leadoff single in the first and Patrick Bailey with a scoring double in the seventh inning.

The Blue Jays’ five earned runs in the first inning was the most Webb had ever conceded in a single inning and represented their worst season for a single game.

Belt entered the box at the bottom of the first pass, a run was already on the board and a man was on first base. At first it looked like he’d executed his intentions and blasted a ball deep into left center field, but had to settle for an RBI double as the ball landed a few yards from the wall. He fell just short again on his second attack, sending Luis Matos onto the runway in midfield for the lowest point of the game.

As Belt returned to the dugout, he appeared to exchange a few words with his former teammate up the hill.

While the Blue Jays marked Webb for six hits — four doubles — in the first inning, Belt’s 98.8 mph two-bagger was their hardest-hit ball of the inning until a 109-mph line-drive single from Danny Jansen won the last run. According to Statcast, George Springer’s double to lead from the inning and Daulton Varshos, driving in Belt, each had a 16% or less chance of hitting. It was only the fourth time in the Statcast era (since 2015) that a pitcher had allowed four doubles in an inning and neither registered an exit speed of 100 mph or more.

After the big first inning, Webb managed to give up 11 of the last 13 batters he faced but left Ross Stripling to start the sixth inning. Stripling, recurring for the first time since May 17 (low back strain), won the last three innings but conceded a run on three hits and had three strikeouts.

The first inning cost the Giants more than the game. Conforto was sent off for a pinch hitter early in the second period after chasing several balls down right field, including a foul by Matt Chapman that catapulted Conforto into foul territory and eventually into the waist-high wall while he was recorded the second of the inning.

Congratulations. All the hard work, sleepless nights, and re-submitting your paperwork has finally paid off.

And now people in states and cities very different from where you live will be lining up to see you speak, tell jokes, and read from your transformative work. But here’s the catch: in order to perform at your best, you have to come on stage in the best of health.

With that in mind, I’m going to teach you how to eat on the go so you don’t die before you get to the stage — or have to read to an audience whose guts have you farting uncontrollably.

A long time ago, when my career was still in its infancy, I almost died of spitting on stage. I did that and survived, so you didn’t either.

“D, you’re awake!” Mr. James said, “C’mon boy, they’re waiting for you.”

“They” were 250 Bay Area teenagers. My first book, The Beast Side, just hit the New York Times bestseller list — and this gig turned my modest three-city tour into a whopping eight states, with a few paid gigs and a fresh-air feature with Terry Gross . Then a woman who worked in the San Francisco mayor’s office heard the Fresh Air interview and forwarded it to Mr. James. Three weeks later, I am presenting my work to a diverse group of Mr. James students who have read, studied, and loved The Beast Side.

“It’s all right, D,” said Mr. James. “Do you need something?”

“I’m fine, gijifijkwwndbdwnb!” I chopped as a mint green “Exorcist”-esque liquid squirted out of my mouth into a wastebasket. Mr James, now standing in the doorway behind me, said, “Man, what the hell!”

“I’m fine, I’m fine, let me start this mouthwash real quick,” I said, wiping the mucus off my face with a napkin. “I’m ready. Let’s go.”

“I can’t let the kids down, but more importantly, I’ve cashed your deposit — and I’m not giving a refund.”

“Oh damn no, your eyes are all grey,” Mr. James pushed back, grabbing my arm and throwing me into a chair. “You can’t go on.”

“But Mr. James,” I said, getting up slowly, “I have to go, I can’t let the kids down, but more importantly, I’ve cashed your deposit – and I’m not giving a refund.”

With that, I spat out what was left in my stomach and rinsed out what was left with water and more mouthwash. Then I went on stage and earned my money.

The event went well, my jokes caught on and the pressure to sell books eased as Mr James’ organization had already bought 300 copies for the children and staff. And if I had any doubts about my performance, those were dispelled by Mr James’ immediate offer to invite me back. But what went wrong anyway? How could a perfectly rational person like me even remotely pull off a perfect performance?

Well, the first rookie mistake was alcohol. I went out for maybe a round or eight, which led me to look for some bar food (rookie mistake #2) to feed the booze. I’ve never been to San Francisco, and I thought I was Anthony Bourdain, so I ate whatever they put in my face. snails? Secure. Tatar from an unidentifiable animal? Sure, West African elephant sliders? Secure. Unwrapped chicken wings and lobster eyeballs? Sure, sure, sure, sure. The problem is that Bourdain was paid to eat lobster eyeballs while D. Watkins was paid to be able to read and write. The filthy combination of everything coalesced into one giant germ inside me, causing me to annoy myself – in addition to Mr James and the rest of the internal staff. Never again.

I love a good cocktail like everyone else. Especially in a new city, but that’s bad for business. First of all, alcohol is poison and has two purposes: to distract you from what is important and to draw your attention to the aforementioned bar food.

I don’t know how bar food is made. Still, I wouldn’t be surprised if they rubbed the wings, the french fries, the pathetic vegetables they call “side salads,” and whatever scraper they had on the feces-covered kitchen floor before force-feeding the drunk. I’ve never eaten bar food before and then I woke up in the morning and said, “I’m excited to inspire 250 teenagers.”

I’m not a total quadratic. You can party along the way, but you must do it after all events, book signings, and dinners with faculty and staff have concluded. And if you’re lucky enough to be on a multi-city tour, don’t celebrate until your performances, readings and dinners with promoters and/or staff are over.

“The excitement of someone outside of Baltimore wanting to hear from me threw me out of character and made me eat crazy, but unfortunately the intense nausea and uncontrollable farts brought me back.”

My old self would never have been sick before coming on stage. I suffer from major trust issues, to the point that I would never eat at someone’s house, or whip up a blunt, or take a bite out of someone else’s plate because I thought someone and everyone would try to kill me . I know this is extremely unhealthy. However, if you want to stay healthy on tour, you have to adopt this mentality.

The organizers, the fan who baked you fresh cookies, and the professor from the fancy college who keeps saying, “Please take a sip of my extra dirty martini” — they’re all trying to kill you. Throw the freshly baked cookies in the trash as soon as the fan is out of sight because they are no good.

The excitement of someone outside of Baltimore wanting to hear from me threw me out of character and made me eat crazy, but alas, the intense nausea and uncontrollable farts brought me back. And I realized that the purpose is to do great work, to be entertaining, to be fun, and to be engaging, and that it takes a clear head to achieve those goals. Luckily I survived and San Francisco was good but it could have been great. The goal is always great.

So what do you eat and drink and what should you avoid?

Before we start the list, I recommend washing your hands at least 100 times a day. This may sound extreme, but I haven’t had a cold since Bush’s first presidency. Maybe I did, but I got over it so quickly I can’t remember because I wash my hands until my skin hurts and peels and falls off.

I know it sounds crazy, but we’re all adults here. We know coffee sends you to the bathroom 10,000 times a day — and bathrooms you don’t clean yourself are full of hundreds of thousands of germs that are making you sick and potentially preventing you from performing well.

To drink tea. Tea works, especially if you can order a cup of hot water and tear the wrapper off the tea bag yourself. This way no one touches the tea bag but you and you are safe as we know you have washed your hands more than often.

Fast food places are notoriously dirty. It should be called fast food because it makes you sick quickly. However, if you absolutely must eat at a fast food place because that’s the only option, see if they sell fruit or packaged produce. Bananas and oranges are the best because you have to peel them, which means you’re the only person touching them, and again, we know you’re clean because you wash your hands. Packaged salads work too, so if you’re at risk of eating withered, gross GM vegetables, you know they’ve been cleaned and sealed.

I would never recommend Starbucks for anything. However, they have locations in most cities and typically offer a selection of pre-packaged veggies and healthy chips.

The boiled egg, the boiled egg, the boiled egg—the boiled egg is king, queen, Beyoncé. The boiled egg is Beyoncé. It’s packed with protein, you can easily pop out the yolk and call yourself healthy, you can soft-boil it and call yourself fancy, and most importantly – most places do it with the shell, meaning you’re the only one is person touching it.

It is extremely important that you are the only person touching your food. I wish I had a long list of options to try, but I don’t. Our careers are delicate and the opportunity to showcase our work in front of strangers is truly a blessing. We don’t want to miss these opportunities because we had to try these St. Tacos at the stand down the street, with no plumbing — meaning you and the person who made that delicious street taco have nowhere to go can wash your hands.

Take pictures, drink as much as you like and explore the area when you’re on vacation and not working on the road. Because if you fail an event, that organizer will tell other organizers and you may not be re-booked.

Smith-Njigba poses with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell after being drafted 20th overall by the Seattle Seahawks during the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft at Union Station on April 27, 2023 in Kansas City, Missouri.
The 49ers will set out to bolster a Super Bowl-caliber roster on Friday when they’re due to make three picks in the third round of the NFL Draft, but their path through the NFC seems to have gotten tougher after the first day of picks in Kansas City.

San Francisco saw the quality of its biggest rival in the division and the team that beat the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game improve as both the Seattle Seahawks and Philadelphia Eagles played impressive first rounds.

Seattle won gold with Pick 5 and 20th overall pick, landing Illinois State cornerback Devon Witherspoon and Ohio State wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

Witherspoon gives the Seahawks a fluid and physical corner, characterized by excellent plays at catch point and an aggressive playstyle that the secondary in Seattle was arguably lacking. In his final season in Illinois, he had three interceptions and 14 pass breakups.

Smith-Njigba, on the other hand, is an exceptionally smooth and creative route-runner, excellent at tracking the ball and adding yards after catches. He’ll likely play mostly next-level slots, can form an impressive trio with DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, and help Geno Smith continue to thrive after his 2022 comeback Player of the Year season.

The Seahawks were swept by the 49ers in the regular season and routed in the San Francisco wild card round. Witherspoon improves Seattle’s chances of defending San Francisco’s star-studded offense, while Smith-Njigba poses a potentially significant problem for a vaunted defense that lost Emmanuel Moseley and Jimmie Ward from the secondary on free hands.

San Francisco will still be the favorite to successfully defend its NFC West title in 2023, but a bigger problem for the 49ers could be toppling the team that ended its Super Bowl hopes last season has finished.

The conference title game may have been effectively decided on the 49ers’ first offensive series when Brock Purdy tore the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in the elbow of his throwing arm, but Georgia Eagles new signings Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith The ninth and 30th picks will make a defensive front that caused significant problems for the Niners in January even more difficult to stop.

Smith, considered by many to be the first-round steal, had lost 15 tackles in his last two seasons with the Bulldogs.

Of course, the 49ers have one of the best rosters in football themselves, and they reinforced their excellent defensive line by signing defensive tackle Javon Hargrave from the Eagles in the headline San Francisco offseason.

And given their recent history of uncovering contributors with mid- and late-round picks, the Niners will be confident of improving their roster despite a lack of premium capital.

Still, it has to be argued that the Seahawks closed the gap and the Eagles created an even greater obstacle with their respective first-round moves that should make them better now and in the future. Last but not least, the progress they’ve made with their top pick reinforces the importance of the 49ers capitalizing on this Super Bowl window as soon as possible.

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — The Portland men’s tennis team earned a road split over the weekend of the West Coast Conference with Saturday’s 4-2 win over San Francisco at the Goldman Tennis Center. The Pilots move to 8-7 overall and 2-2 in league play while the Dons fall to 2-13 overall and 0-5 in league play.

Portland secured the colon with victories at No. 1 and No. 3. Sema Pankin and Eleftherios Neos defeated Nil Giraldez and Johan Garpered 6-3, and then Issa Yoshida and Cade Fernando secured it in a 6-4 win against Stevie Gould and Davide Cortimiglia in 3rd place.

The singles games were extremely close, but Pankin gave the Pilots a boost with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Giraldez at the top of the lineup. USF countered with a win in 2nd place before the last four games were all over three sets.

Nicolas Ocana made a comeback in 3rd with a 6-0, 6-1, 7-5 win over Gould. USF took their second point when Nikola Kuraica overtook Nikolas Tvedt in a three-setter for 4th. Portland’s Maxim Groysman then provided the winning point with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 loss to 5th-ranked Cortimiglia.

The final singles game between Issa Yoshida and Luka Kalenic was abandoned in the third set.

“Today was a little gut check,” said Portland coach Aaron Gross. “We didn’t play well yesterday or fight particularly well. We still didn’t play great today but we were very gritty. Sema is on the right track and had a solid win in 1st place. Our other two wins were lost in the first set and we were fighting back for wins. Ocana played so hard to come back from the 6-0 loss of the first game and Max managed the clincher again. Sometimes the most valuable and meaningful victories are the ones that you have to fight and fight your way to. Today’s victory was very hard fought and well deserved.”

Portland returns home next weekend to host the Loyola Marymount Lions on Thursday and the Pepperdine Waves on Saturday. Both games are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. with live coverage available on PortlandPilots.com.
