San Francisco 49ers star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk officially requested a transfer on Tuesday.

After months of contract negotiations that failed to produce any results, Aiyuk has decided to officially submit his request to join a new team.

However, that doesn't mean the 49ers have to give him up.

Shortly after the trade request was reported, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the 49ers had “no intention” of trading Aiyuk.

“Other teams that have contacted and spoken with San Francisco have been told that the 49ers have no intention of trading disgruntled WR Brandon Ayiuk, who has officially requested a transfer,” Shefter wrote.

The 49ers begin training camp next week, and if Aiyuk isn't traded by then, he's expected to be there. Otherwise, he risks having to pay hefty fines the longer he's away from the team. It remains to be seen, however, how he would handle not being traded.

A transfer request is nothing new for the 49ers, especially when it involves a star player. Just two offseasons ago, star wide receiver Deebo Samuel officially requested a transfer from San Francisco after the two sides could not agree on a contract extension. However, the 49ers made it clear they would not part with him and agreed to a three-year, $71.55 million contract extension before the new season. Kicker Robbie Gould was another player who requested a transfer but later signed a new contract with San Francisco.

The drama surrounding Aiyuk and the 49ers continued throughout the offseason. There were a lot of conflicting reports about San Francisco possibly trading Aiyuk during the NFL Draft. Then, when a report came out in late June that the Washington Commanders had rejected a trade offer from the 49ers for Aiyuk, the wide receiver commented, “But I thought the Niners never wanted to trade me.”

A week earlier, Aiyuk had spoken to the Commanders' new quarterback, Jayden Daniels, on the phone and told him that the 49ers “don't want him back.”

San Francisco general manager John Lynch announced at the beginning of the offseason that he wanted Aiyuk back. Star tight end George Kittle also said he expected Aiyuk to be back next season.

However, Aiyuk has been hinting at possible transfers all season and on Tuesday it sounded like he had officially submitted his transfer request.

Now it's up to the 49ers to either give him the contract he wants or the trade he wants.

Fortunately for 49ers fans, that trade did not happen and the team will keep its star receivers for now. However, one NFL analyst suggests that San Francisco could still trade one of the two receivers before the trade deadline in November.

NFL analyst Mike Silver said Aiyuk or Samuel could potentially be traded before the deadline.

There is still a chance that Aiyuk or Deebo could be traded between now and the November deadline if the offer is good enough and/or if things have moved on with Aiyuk.

These rumors all started just before the draft, when ESPN analyst Dan Graziano suggested that the 49ers should trade Aiyuk to fill other needs on the team.

To me, the most likely outcome is that Aiyuk will be traded to a team where he is the clear No. 1 wideout and gets the contract extension he wants, allowing the Niners to draft his replacement in the first round, which is the cleanest way for them to fill all of their other needs.

Despite not making a move at the draft, the team still seems hesitant to give Aiyuk the contract extension he wants. Samuel also became a person of interest in these trade talks after several analysts suggested Aiyuk has better future prospects than the longtime veteran, meaning it will likely come down to who can contribute more in the first half of the upcoming season.

When will the 49ers do something?

While these transfer talks remain speculation, it seems to be a rumor that won't go away, at least until the team either signs a contract extension with one of the stars or trades one of them for other uses. San Francisco will likely listen to a lot of good offers for both superstars, which could lead to a serious shakeup at receiver. New research finds that almost half a million households in the United States, largely and perhaps surprisingly urban ones, lack proper indoor plumbing, according to The Guardian. 

The data, which was compiled from U.S. Census Bureau statistics by the Plumbing Poverty Project (PPP), a collaboration of the University of Arizona and King’s College London, and published Monday, found that renters and people of color, even in some of the country’s wealthiest cities, are more likely to be in a home without running water or toilets that flush.

The issue was found to be especially dire in San Francisco, where nearly 15,000 families live without a working plumbing system, according to The Guardian. San Francisco also has the third-most billionaires of any city in the world, the outlet noted.

Data also showed that, as of 2017, Black people made up 9 percent of San Francisco’s population but 17 percent of homes without indoor plumbing, The Guardian reported.

“The story of plumbing poverty in San Francisco is inextricably tied to unaffordable housing, declining incomes, post-recession transformations in the California rental sector, and racialized wealth gaps, fueled by a kind of ‘anti-Black urbanism’ that has either driven Black San Franciscans into more precarious housing conditions or out of the Bay entirely,” Katie Meehan, lead researcher of the PPP and professor of environment and society at King’s College London, told The Guardian.

San Francisco renters make up less than half of households in the city’s metro area but account for nearly 90 percent of homes lacking functional plumbing, The Guardian reported.

The research also showed that cities including Milwaukee, San Antonio, Phoenix, Seattle and Cleveland made little to no progress improving their plumbing issues between 2000 and 2017. All five cities have more than 3,000 households without proper plumbing, according to The Guardian.

“It’s not only that the gap between the water-rich and the water-poor is widening in America, it’s also that it’s driven by a housing sector that lacks any safety net for working families, especially households of color, that cannot afford the astronomical prices of San Francisco, Seattle, or now even Portland,” Meehan said.

SAN FRANCISCO — A scathing new report from the state reveals the bureaucratic and costly permitting process builders face when it comes to constructing new housing in San Francisco.

The first-of-its-kind report issued Wednesday by the California Department of Housing and Community Development is calling out San Francisco for making things extremely difficult for people trying to create more housing.

“According to self-reported Annual Progress Report (APR) data and prior research from the University of California, Berkeley (UCB), San Francisco has the longest timelines in the state for advancing a housing project from submittal to construction,” the report said.

So far this year, San Francisco has permitted less than one home per day, leaving the city falling far short of its Regional Housing Needs Allocation goals for building new houses.

The report revealed it takes about 523 days for a developer to get a housing project approved compared to 385 days for the next slowest jurisdiction in the state.

After the approval process, its even worse. It takes San Francisco an average of 605 days to issue a building permit.
It takes 418 days for the next slowest jurisdiction.

The report also found that at least 18 city policies and practices are out of compliance with state law. The result is that many of the people who work in the city — including teachers, police officers and firefighters — can’t afford to live in San Francisco.  

State Senator Scott Weiner has been a huge proponent for affordable housing. He released a statement in response to the report. It said, in part, “This audit puts cities across California on notice: there will be no more leniency for illegally obstructing housing construction. San Francisco has added layer upon layer of unnecessary discretion and bureaucracy for decades.”

The mayor’s office says she agrees with the criticism. Mayor Breed claimed that proposed reforms at San Francisco City Hall have been met with “pushback and resistance.”

She is calling on the Board of Supervisors to work with her on changing legislation.

Staying in is the new going out, so why not up the ante with an in-home bar to rival your favorite neighborhood watering hole? Having your own lounge or speakeasy means you get to choose the music and mood (no more overplayed songs or over-served strangers to kill the vibe), and if the party’s going strong, there’s no racing against the clock to make the most of your night. For many, a standard rolling cart is a good entry point, but if you’re a die-hard home mixologist, fancy yourself an entertaining aficionado, or just want the option to enjoy a cocktail in private luxury, leveling up with a dedicated, built-in space is the next logical step. And according to designers across the country, there has been an uptick in this type of request. 

“We’re now putting bars in about 80 percent of our projects,” says Caitlin Jones Ghajar of Seattle-and-San-Francisco-based Caitlin Jones Design, who recently completed a moody custom wine room with floor-to-ceiling wooden built-ins in Sonoma County. “Right now, people want to entertain their friends at home and have a sophisticated place to do it,” she adds.

“Clients are looking for a gathering bar, as opposed to a self-service bar,” notes Michael Kovac of Los Angeles–based Kovac Design Studio, adding that many homeowners seek the flexibility to bring in a professional bartender for events or parties. “They want the bar to integrate into the social fabric of how they entertain.” This means zoning an area—sometimes an entire room—for a full, U-shaped bar with a complete workstation (including durable counters, integrated plumbing, refrigeration, and sparkling-water or beer taps), built-in shelving to display bottles, and stools to accommodate guests. Instead of relegating the bar to a secondary space such as a basement, designers are incorporating them into (or at least locating them next to) high-traffic areas or popular communal rooms to increase use. In one residential project in La Quinta, California, Kovac installed woven-metal curtains on tracks around the bar, which is open to the kitchen and great room, allowing his client to choose how incorporated they want it to feel. 

“One of my favorite places to put a bar is inside the dining room,” says Emily Seiders, whose firm, Studio Seiders, is based in Austin, Texas. “We’ve carved out dedicated space in an existing dining room with great success. It’s a typically underused space, and adding a bar turns it into a multipurpose entertaining area.” 

For a private-club or speakeasy feel, a full bar can be tucked behind paneling in a library or an office, with an inconspicuous entry door. Inside, the possibilities are seemingly endless: Do you want a dark, low-lit lounge for sipping martinis and listening to records? A sleek, standing-room space for tasting wine? Of course, aesthetics are key, but much like the kitchen, a functional bar is a household workhorse, which is important to keep in mind when choosing materials. Jones Ghajar recommends using a quartzite bar top, while Seiders opts for dark soapstone and granite—all are durable, visually dynamic options that resist stains and don’t react to acid as severely as marble does (good news for citrus lovers). “You can also use a large walnut butcher block that turns the whole counter into a cutting board,” Seiders says, “and just embrace the story that it’s going to tell when you use it—the wine marks and cuts and scratches are a reminder of all the great times with friends and family.”

Kovac Design Studio also leans into the “embrace the story” approach. “We’re careful with materials,” Kovac says. “Brass that patinas a certain way, wood, leather. A space can be elegant and luxurious but also feel time-worn, like you can imagine who sat there and the conversations they had.” 

An easy way to customize a bar—and make an impact—is through color. In one Austin project, Seiders used two shades of blue on the ridged wall paneling and bar base to create an arresting jewel-toned nook with glass-encased bottle storage. A sudden or unexpected change in color or material produces an element of surprise and generates a psychological transition from daily duties to “it’s time to toast.” Unique counter shapes and built-ins are another way to make a room feel elevated. For the 2021 Kips Bay Dallas show home, Yates Desygn installed a cantilevered quartz bar with a custom octagonal walnut base. Open brass shelving backed with sage-green quartz imparts a sophisticated look, topped off with rows of vintage decanters uplit to glow a warm, complementary amber tone. “One of the keys to transforming an environment is lighting,” says Yates Desygn cofounder Bryan Yates, who suggests a bold chandelier over the bar, as well as thoughtfully placed uplighting and sconces. “It helps to create the mood you’re trying to achieve but is also functional for going from day to night.”

21-year-old Arpankumar Patel of Ottawa was killed in an accident when his northbound vehicle struck a deer on Illinois Route 71 just north of Norway. The vehicle’s roof was completely removed by the collision. There were two additional passengers in his vehicle and they both were taken to Morris Hospital. They were identified as Nitinkumar Patel and Harsh Patel. The deer was hit by the southbound vehicle moments before the fatal crash.

A brand-new building is finally rising at the site at 200 West Main Street in Ottawa. Nestled between Perfect Moments Event Shoppe Bakery and Ottawa Office Supply, the site is already taking shape. Mayor Robert Hasty said on the Jay LeSeure show Wednesday “that the first order of business was sorting out the downtown TIF fund that helps finance construction”. The city had to agree Tuesday night on restructuring the three-year-old downtown TIF agreement and extend it another 10 years. The basement was poured on Wednesday. The Mayor said, “The second floor will be the owner’s residence and the first floor will be retail”.

Back on November 2nd Ottawa police received multiple 911 calls reporting gunshots fired in the 1100 block of Pine Street. At about 2 am police secured the area and met with the homeowner who reported persons had forced their way into his house. Gunfire was exchanged with one of the suspects. Grundy County sheriff’s detectives then contacted Ottawa PD about a subject at the Morris Hospital being treated for gunshot wounds. Ottawa police collected evidence and came up with 22-year-old Fernando J Martinez as a suspect and reported their findings to the La Salle County State’s Attorney’s office. Martinez was arrested on November 13th after a brief foot chase by police.

A grand jury officially handed down charges of home invasion and unlawful possession of a weapon on Martinez.

Emergency medical services (EMS) teams from Utica, Naplate, and Grand Ridge received an urgent call at approximately 6:15 am Wednesday to respond to an incident at the Ottawa Barge Terminal. According to dispatch reports, an individual had fallen off a barge and was found in the water near Dee Bennett Road. Unconfirmed reports say the man hit his head before falling into the water and was unable to swim. An unidentified man jumped into the river to rescue the man before emergency services arrived. We are still waiting on an official press release from the incident.

16 large paintings of the life of Jesus Christ will be displayed in Ottawa’s Washington Square Park this Christmas season. Created in 1956 by the Ottawa Retail Merchants’ Association to keep Christ in Christmas, the 4-foot by 7-foot paintings depict Jesus’ birth, life, and ministry. Each painting is accompanied by a Scripture verse. The Ottawa Freedom Association has erected the paintings each year since 1992 after winning a lengthy court battle. On Saturday, December 2 at 6:30 a.m., The Ottawa Freedom Association, Ottawa Christian Men’s Group, and any who would like to help, will gather at the 1st Presbyterian Church for breakfast. Following breakfast, we will at meet 8:00 AM on the west side of Washington Park to erect the paintings.

(South Bend, IN) — The Notre Dame Fighting Irish had no trouble with Maryland Eastern Shore during a 75-55 victory at Joyce Center. Notre Dame led by 16 at the break and cruised to victory in the second half. Braeden Shrewsberry led a balanced scoring effort with 13 points in under 15 minutes off the bench. The Irish improved to 3-and-2, and they visit South Carolina next Tuesday.

San Francisco reportedly removed encampments sheltering homeless people in downtown ahead of an upcoming international summit where President Joe Biden will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Homelessness has long plagued San Francisco, according to a 2022 count conducted by the city that showed around 3,400 people sleep in a shelter while about 4,400 people sleep on the streets on any given night in the northern California city. 

This week, homeless people have been moved to parts of the city far from the location of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit next week, the New York Post reported. 

The summit will be the city’s largest international event since dignitaries gathered to sign the charter creating the United Nations in 1945, according to the Associated Press.

“They started clearing the tents earlier this week and there is definitely a lot more police presence,” South of Market resident and activist Ricci Lee Wynne told The Post.

San Francisco reportedly focused on moving encampments in South of Market and Tenderloin that sheltered the homeless as well as people reportedly abusing fentanyl and heroin. 

Crews working with the city and police officers asked homeless people to move away from the area surrounding the Moscone Center, NBC Bay Area reported. A video report published by the news channel showed a homeless man gathering his belongings to move presumably to a shelter.

“They’ve cleared out the tents that were near the Moscone Center on Howard Street, which tells me the city had the capability to do this all along — instead they just do the bare minimum,” Lee Wynne told the Post. 

Lee Wynne continued: “Once APEC is gone, police presence will start to simmer down again, the tents will return. And it will slowly flare up again. What we need is a permanent solution.”

The Messenger reached out to San Francisco Mayor London Breed’s office for comment.

The Las Vegas Raiders are making wholesale changes from the top down.

Tensions were high on the team following a frustrating Monday Night Football defeat against the Detroit Lions, and owner Mark Davis has evidently decided that enough was enough.

The team made a stunning move early Wednesday morning by announcing it had fired head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager David Ziegler and named Antonio Pierce the interim head coach. Now, Las Vegas will be trotting out a new starting quarterback for the rest of the 2023 season.

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported that rookie Aidan O’Connell is expected to start in place of Jimmy Garoppolo beginning Sunday against the New York Giants and moving forward.

Rapoport followed that up with a quote from a Raiders source who said “[O’Connell’s] our best QB.”

Garoppolo completed just 10 passes for 126 yards while throwing a pick and missing a wide-open Davante Adams on several occasions against the Lions on Monday. For the season, Garoppolo has seven passing touchdowns and nine interceptions across six games.

The former New England Patriots and San Francisco 49ers signal caller heads to the bench after agreeing to a three-year, $67.5 million deal, including $34 million guaranteed, with the Raiders in this past March.

O’Connell, meanwhile, is in line to make his first NFL start. The fourth-round rookie has one touchdown pass and a pair of interceptions while completing 34 of 52 pass attempts in two appearances so far this season.

The Raiders are 3-5 on the year and 1.5 games back in a crowded AFC wild card chase. The team hosts the Giants in Week 9, New York Jets on Sunday Night Football in Week 10, visits the Miami Dolphins in Week 11 and welcomes the Kansas City Chiefs to town in Week 12 before finally getting to their bye.

This $22 million San Francisco estate is on the market for the first time since it was fully rebuilt several years ago.

It’s listed by Ben Ling, a serial tech investor, founder of Bling Capital, and former Google executive, who purchased the property in 2013 for $1.8 million, according to the San Francisco Business Times. He spent several years renovating and rebuilding the house into what it is today. Completed in 2019, the house now spans 9,704 square feet and has six bedrooms and nine bathrooms. Two years ago, Ling relocated his firm from the Bay Area to Miami and purchased a Palm Island Miami mansion in 2021, according to The Real Deal.
