An “intense and quick-moving” snowstorm struck portions of the Sierra Nevada and southern Cascades on Saturday, with weather officials warning travelers to avoid mountain travel through Sunday morning.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for the particularly conditions expected to pelt the mountain areas of the Sierra Nevada with up to 2 feet of snow at its highest peaks.

“It’ll become very difficult for Caltrans or any of the highway departments to clear the roads,” said Jeffrey Wood, meteorologist for the National Weather Service. “And with that heavy snowfall rate, you can experience near-whiteout conditions.”

Heavy snowfall accumulations were expected in Mount Shasta City, Dunsmuir, Donner Pass and Truckee, according to forecasts from the National Weather Service. Donner Summit should accumulate up to 2 feet of snow.

The heaviest of the snow pelts were felt Saturday morning into the afternoon, Wood said. Snowfall rates could reach up to 2 inches per hour.

“Typical snowstorms (are) a half an inch or an inch per hour,” Wood said. “Anytime we start to see snowfall rates greater than an inch is when we start seeing the real impactful conditions, particularly on roadways.”

Blizzard-like conditions were possible along Interstate 80 continuing into the evening. Gusty winds of up to 50 mph could snap tree limbs, cause power outages and lead to whiteout conditions. The California Highway Patrol enacted chain requirements for vehicles on I-80 over Donner Summit from Truckee to Eagle Lake late Saturday morning and reported spinouts and collisions by the afternoon.

Authorities shut down a portion of westbound I-80 in Truckee for just under two hours Saturday afternoon after multiple cars spun out on the road, according to the California Highway Patrol. Officials from Truckee Meadows Fires and Rescue said they had responded to several motor vehicle accidents on the road by Saturday night. The agency warned residents not to travel unless necessary due to the heavy snow conditions.

NO LATER THAN March 29, 3:15 p.m Isolated storm cells swept across the San Francisco Bay Area on Wednesday, showering the region with hail and rain. They delivered fresh snow to the highest peaks, including Mount Diablo in the East Bay and Mount Hamilton in the South Bay.

The storms emerged over the region on Wednesday as an area of low pressure continued its journey south along the California coast and passed the Bay Area.

In downtown San Francisco, hail storms hit city streets just after 3 p.m., with many Twitter users commenting on the bizarre weather.

“I’ve never seen hail like this in San Francisco,” wrote one Twitter user. “It does not stop!” said another.

“Cow Hollow Hail!” wrote one Twitter user. “That was amazing and went on for a good 10 minutes, even with shouting from the side. I phoned someone downtown and was told it hardly ever rained there – never a dull moment.”

The chance of heavy downpours, small hail, gusty winds and thunderstorms will last through 10 p.m. Wednesday in the North Bay and midnight in the rest of the Bay Area, the National Weather Service said.

March 29, 7:30 a.m Scattered storm cells dropped hail in parts of the San Francisco Bay Area Wednesday morning, and more unsettled weather is forecast later in the day.

An area of low pressure moving south along the California coast is expected to skirt the San Francisco Bay Area this afternoon, dropping more hail and rain and kicking up winds. There is also a very small chance of thunderstorms.

“You’re going to have some breezy moments and a lot of wind changes,” Brayden Murdock, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, told SFGATE. “This low drives clockwise winds around it. You will see many south winds and then south east winds. As it passes us, the winds shift north.”

The center of the low pressure is not expected to sweep directly over the region like last Tuesday’s storm did, and winds are not expected to be nearly as strong as in the previous storm.

“We don’t expect a repeat of last week,” Murdock said. “Last week there were a lot of ingredients that went perfectly with what we saw. This low is coming at us from a different direction.”

It’s hailing and thundering again in the Berkeley Hills @BerkeleyScanner @berkeleyside @DrewTumaABC7 @NWSBayArea pic.twitter.com/9a5DMv2BRf

— Laura Kwan-Rosenbush (@laurakr415) March 29, 2023

The passing of the low will also bring some showers to the region. These isolated cells could dump moderate to heavy rain but are likely to move quickly.

“Around 1 p.m. we could see showers coming through,” Murdock said. “Between then and now we could see a few pop-up showers.”

Tuesday’s weather models pointed to a thunderstorm chance of up to 30% in the Bay Area on Wednesday, but the chance has since dropped to less than 10%.

“There’s a chance we’ll see some thunderstorms today, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to be a really big chance in terms of strong impact,” Murdock said. “It doesn’t promote the best environment for thunderstorms. We just don’t get all the ingredients. There’s energy there, but it looks like it’s really pulling away.”

Conditions are expected to be dry on Thursday and Friday, with a weak system on Saturday potentially bringing light rain to the North Bay.

This breaking news has been updated.

When Taco Bell removed the “Grilled Stuft Nacho” from its nationwide menu in 2015, Chris Sandberg was crushed.

The specialty item – a triangle-shaped tortilla filled with beef, crunchy red strips, sour cream and cheesy jalapeño sauce – was “the best thing I ever had at Taco Bell,” Sandberg said.

The day he discovered the dish, he liked it so much, “I had it every day for a week,” Sandberg said. “The following week, it was discontinued.”

After it was taken from the menu, he moved on and tried other items, but none measured up for him. It stayed fresh in his mind. And on Jan. 4, 2021, he decided to start a daily exercise challenge on TikTok, in the hope of getting Taco Bell’s attention.

Sandberg shared a video of himself, breathless in his bathroom mirror, saying, “Day one of exercising every day until Taco Bell brings back the Grilled Stuft Nacho.”

The seven-second clip went viral with hundreds of thousands of views. Sandberg doubled down on his unusual – and somewhat illogical – effort to apply pressure to the restaurant chain through physical activity. He posted another mid-workout video the following day, and every single day thereafter. In the roughly 470 days since he started chronicling his daily exercise routine on TikTok, Sandberg has shed more than 85 pounds.

“I’ve put in an unbelievable amount of physical work,” said Sandberg, who lives in San Francisco, is self-employed, and produces social media videos and short films. He emphasized that he does not work for Taco Bell and never has.

The goal of his workout antic is twofold: While his primary objective is to bring back his beloved Grilled Stuft Nacho, when he began his Taco Bell challenge more than one year ago, Sandberg – who weighed close to 300 pounds before the pandemic – what also seeking to lose weight. He decided to merge the two missions.

“I do understand the irony in exercising every day for a fast-food item,” he said. “It started as a joke that has clearly gone way too far, but I can’t stop now.”

Although Sandberg initially executed the idea in jest, he quickly realized “it resonates for people,” as losing weight can be a stressful struggle for many. He wanted to find a way to make his experience lighthearted.

Sandberg grew eager to get in shape after “I read that people who were overweight were more vulnerable to COVID, so that had been at the back of my head for a while,” he said, adding that he was 275 pounds when he started the exercise challenge, after losing 15 pounds over the preceding few months.

Sandberg thought that publicly sharing his weight-loss journey on social media might help hold him accountable while also potentially motivating others. He wanted something to set himself apart, a cause that might be comical enough to compel Internet strangers to cheer him on.

“I didn’t want the journey to be about a number on a scale,” Sandberg said. “I wanted it to be fun. I wanted the goal to be something that had nothing to do with my weight.”

Enter the Grilled Tier Nacho.

“Everyone loves Taco Bell,” Sandberg said in a bold culinary statement. “That’s just what came to me.”

Plus, he believed his efforts might actually work.

“Doja Cat wanted them to bring back the Mexican Pizza, and look what happened,” Sandberg said. “The Grilled Stuft Nacho is better than the Mexican Pizza, and the world needs to know that.”

According to the Taco Bell Fandom Wiki, the Grilled Stuft Nacho first appeared on the menu in 2013 but was discontinued in March 2014. It made a brief reappearance in 2015 before it was pulled for good. Some people were peeved, though probably no one as much as Sandberg.

“There is a common belief that everything at Taco Bell tastes the same, but the Grilled Stuft Nacho is the exception,” Sandberg said, explaining his appreciation for a specific sauce.

“I want to make this clear,” he said. “The cheesy jalapeño sauce is different than their creamy jalapeño sauce. Without the cheesy jalapeño sauce, it is just not the same.”

Sandberg found an online community that shared his taste in fast food. Someone started an online petition four years ago pleading with the chain to bring back the specialty item. The petition collected 792 signatures – including Sandberg’s. The appeal was not enough to revive the dish, so Sandberg decided to take matters into his own hands.

First, he began with at-home workouts, then incorporated weightlifting, high-intensity interval training and long-distance running into his regular fitness routine.

“There are days that you want to give up,” Sandberg said. “On the days that you do want to work out, that’s when you push yourself physically, but on the days that you don’t want to work out, that’s when you have to push yourself mentally.”

Two people were arrested with £ 15,000 of illegal fireworks and $ 1 million in cash after Sept.

In early May, the Sheriff’s Office’s crime-fighting unit opened an investigation into a large line of illegal fireworks distribution. During the investigation, two people identified as Sam San, 61, from San Francisco, and Jennifer Nguyen, 54, from San Jose, were linked to the fireworks sales in San Mateo County. Through surveillance, detectives identified two apartment buildings and a warehouse in Oakland that are linked to the operation.

San has been detained in the San Mateo County Jail and Nguyen is currently on charges of her involvement.

The sheriff’s office is reminding residents that all fireworks are illegal in unincorporated areas of San Mateo County, as well as in the cities it serves. Fines of up to $ 1,000 can be imposed.
