The NFC Championship game rematch is here.

The San Francisco 49ers (8-3) return to Lincoln Financial Field to take on the Philadelphia Eagles (10-1) in what could be a preview of another playoff matchup.

All things are clicking for the 49ers as they’ve won three straight games, the latest win coming in a Thanksgiving victory over the Seattle Seahawks. Christian McCaffrey got into the end zone once again while the defense made life tough for Geno Smith and the rest of the Seattle offense.

Philadelphia is coming off winning perhaps the game of the year in an overtime thriller against the Buffalo Bills. Despite the dreadful first-half performance, the Eagles showed why they have the best record in the NFL and can get another statement win against a team that wants revenge for last season.

PROP TALK: These are the best prop bets for NFL games this week

NFL STATS CENTRAL: The latest NFL scores, schedules, odds, stats and more.

Eagles vs. 49ers odds, moneyline, over/under

The 49ers are favorites to defeat the Eagles, according to the BetMGM NFL odds. Looking to wager? Check out the best mobile sports betting apps offering NFL betting promos in 2023, including the new ESPN BET app.

Moneyline: 49ers (-146); Eagles (+120)

Over/under: 46.5

EYE ON THE FUTURE: These are the most popular NFL future bets in 2023

NFL Week 13 odds, predictions and picks

Cowboys vs. Seahawks | Patriots vs. Chargers | Saints vs. Lions | Jets vs. Falcons | Steelers vs. Cardinals | Titans vs. Colts | Commanders vs. Dolphins | Texans vs. Broncos | Buccaneers vs. Panthers | Eagles vs. 49ers | Rams vs. Browns | Packers vs. Chiefs | Jaguars vs. Bengals

Lorenzo Reyes: Eagles 25, 49ers 20

The 49ers can present a couple of problems for the Eagles; San Francisco’s ferocious pass rush could generate pressure that disrupts Jalen Hurts and the Philly offense. But the Eagles have met every challenge they’ve faced and the key to this game will be to keep third- and fourth-down distances manageable; Philadelphia is first in the NFL in fourth-down conversion rate, moving the chains an astonishing 76.5% of the time, but also rank third in third-down efficiency (47.3%). The Niners’ defense on third downs is in the bottom third of the league. I have a hard time going against the Eagles at home, especially when they’re getting a field goal.

Tyler Dragon: 49ers 25, Eagles 24

The game of the week. This NFC title game rematch is worth the hype. The 49ers and Eagles are once again the two best teams in the conference. The 49ers don’t tend to lose games when Deebo Samuel, Trent Williams, Christian McCaffrey and Brock Purdy are all on the field together and healthy. San Francisco has revenge on its mind after losing in the NFC Championship game last season.

Safid Deen: Eagles 27, 49ers 20

The game of the week between the two best teams in the NFL. Both sides are stacked, but I’m giving the edge to the Eagles because of the quarterback position. Give me Jalen Hurts over Brock Purdy every day of the week.

Victoria Hernandez: Eagles 27, 49ers 26

This is probably the game of the week and a possible preview of the NFC championship as two of the grittiest teams in the conference face off. They might not be the most high-powered team in the league, but the Eagles continue to churn out win after win with sheer determination. They’re facing a stiff defense and a well-balanced offense in the 49ers, but being at home and sticking to their unique brand of football should squeak out another victory.

Jordan Mendoza: Eagles 33, 49ers 31

This game is going to be intense. San Francisco will want to prove that when they have a healthy quarterback, they can beat anybody, even the Eagles. Coming off a gritty win, Philadelphia has shown they can win even in bad performances. Even with the momentum San Francisco has, it’s tough to win inside the Linc. It’s close, but the Eagles get another last-second victory in another thriller.

The New York Giants continue their odyssey out west as they take on the San Francisco 49ers in Week 3 of the NFL season on Thursday night at Levi’s Stadium.

It’s been a whirlwind start for the Giants. After falling behind 20-0 at halftime Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals and failing to score a single point in their first six quarters this season, the Giants scored 24 unanswered points en route to a 31-28 come-from-behind victory in the desert. The win tied the Giants’ largest comeback victory in franchise history and first since Oct. 30, 1949, against the Chicago Cardinals.

The 49ers are 2-0 for the second time in three years as they defeated the Los Angeles Rams, 30-23, in Week 2. San Francisco outscored the Rams 13-6 in the second half after being tied at 17 at halftime.

Here are my best bets against the spread, predicting the over/under and the moneyline for this NFC showdown on Thursday night.

More:‘Belief’: How NY Giants saved their season – for now – with emotional, historic comeback

Spread: Giants +10.5 (Odds via BetRivers), 49ers -10.5 (Odds via DraftKings)

It should come as no surprise that the Giants opened as six-point road underdogs against the NFC’s runner-up from a season ago.

However, the odds have shifted dramatically with the injury news related to Giants’ running Saquon Barkley.

An individual with knowledge of the situation confirmed to NorthJersey.com that the MRI and further testing here in Arizona revealed Barkley has a low ankle sprain and there were no other surprises from the scans, potentially establishing his status to return to action as week-to-week depending on his recovery.

With Barkley now out, the 49ers have skyrocketed to a 10.5-point favorite as of Monday night with the line trending toward this number moving even higher as kickoff draws closer. It will certainly be a struggle for the Giants to move the ball consistently downfield without their most complete, go-to weapon in the arsenal.

Laying double digits against the spread is always a risky proposition no matter what teams are playing, but I lean 49ers -10.5 (-110 on DraftKings Sportsbook) in this spot.

Prediction: 49ers -10.5

Giants vs. 49ers total: Over/Under 45 points (-110)

After Sunday’s shootout victory in Arizona, the over/under for Giants and 49ers is one of highest totals of the week as it sits at 45 points on Monday afternoon.

Even at that number, I’m on the under in this one.

While there’s no denying the valiant second-half effort from the Giants in Week 2, with no Barkley and the current status of starting left tackle Andrew Thomas and guard Ben Bredeson unknown, it could be tough sledding for the Giants offense.

San Francisco has put up 30 points in each of its first two games and should continue its offensive dominance led by RB Christian McCaffrey, who has rushed for 100+ yards and scored a TD in both matchups.

The question is, can the Giants do enough to go for this total to go over this number? To me, the answer is no.

Bet on there being fewer than 45 points scored at -110 on multiple sportsbooks in New Jersey.

Prediction: Under 45 points

NFL:‘That was the spark’: NY Giants rookie Jalin Hyatt’s first NFL catch ignited comeback

Moneyline: Giants +430 (Odds via FanDuel), 49ers -520 (Odds via DraftKings)

The Giants are a heavy underdog after opening as a near 2-1 underdog (+195).

There are massive upsets each week in the NFL, but I don’t see the Giants being able to get the job done here. They will put up some points on the board, but it won’t nearly be enough.

With injuries piling up and playing for the second time in four days, the Giants will fall to 1-2 against this high-powered 49ers team, who’s playing at home for the first time this season.

If you believe the Giants can get the job done and pull out the victory, the best odds for them to win is currently at +430 (Bet $100 to win $430) on FanDuel Sportsbook.

Prediction: 49ers 27, Giants 13

Over the past few months, hundreds of self-driving cars have been spotted on the streets of the US’ San Francisco. Recently, a passenger shared a similar experience where he was picked up by a driverless car when he called for a Uber ride.

He shared a video of his experience, showing the view from the backseat of the car. Meanwhile, at the front, there is an empty driver’s seat with the steering wheel moving autonomously. Various prompts are displayed on a tablet fastened to the rear of the passenger’s seat. Further, voice prompts with instructions can also be heard playing inside the car.

The video’s caption reads, ”Getting a Uber in San Francisco be like…”

Watch the video here:

Getting a Uber in San Francisco be like…
by u/Osobady in Damnthatsinteresting

“Lol, when I was a teen, video calls were sci-fi stuff only seen in a few movies, and here we are with ‘automatic taxis’ feeling old,” wrote one user. Another joked, ”To unlock doors, please pay the release fee now.”

“Scary. No thank you,” a third said, while a fourth added, ”Objectively speaking, The human drivers are just as scary or worse.”

A few months back, tech billionaire Bill Gates took a ride in a self-driving car through downtown London and was convinced that autonomous vehicles (AV) are the future.

”The car drove us around downtown London, which is one of the most challenging driving environments imaginable, and it was a bit surreal to be in the car as it dodged all the traffic,” Mr. Gates wrote in a blog post describing his experience.

However, he noted that the transition to fully autonomous cars is probably decades away.

We’ve been at full steam this week and with a clean throw yesterday we were able to increase our weekly record to 15-5.

Let’s wrap up successfully with a complete list of Friday games and bets.

The model

The process is relatively simple. First, I assume that the (implicit) run totals for both teams are roughly efficient throughout the game. This is the case in most cases. This saves me the trouble of predicting the total number of runs scored in the game – and allows me to focus solely on “when” and not “how many”.

Next, I created a database of pitchers’ first-time performance during the order versus their overall stats. Since the latter will presumably factor into the game total, I wanted to find out if those runs are coming early or late.

Most — but not all — MLB starters do slightly better early in games, but there is some variation in elevation. The model uses xFIP (expected Fielding Independent Pitching) as the ERA predictor of choice.

But that’s only half the battle, the other half is made up of crimes. To do this, I looked at what percentage of a team’s total runs are produced by the top three batters in the lineup.

While a first inning run is scored, by definition it takes at least four batsmen to get on the plate, but one of the first three must actually score. The metric of choice here is wRC+, based on each team’s predicted lineup for the day.

This is somewhat of a tradeoff, as lineups (and totals) can change throughout the day, especially when key contributors miss time. However, in my experience, the inefficiency of the morning lines more than makes up for the gaps in the model.

However, be wary if Mike Trout, for example, is considered a doubt for the evening’s game.

The picks

For all of the tips below, I’ll provide the choice, best line, and threshold I would bet on. These will be published in the morning. So, if important news is published between posting and reading, be sure to take that into account.

Rather than betting on the traditional YRFI/NRFI, on rare occasions they will specifically bet on one team or the other to score a run, which is only a betting option at DraftKings as of this writing.

Because the model treats each team individually, it is sometimes assumed that a team will receive a larger percentage of run equity in the first inning than the betting lines allow for.

NRFI odds and tips for Friday 2nd June

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Washington Nationals NRFI: Thanks to the nine games, we have a good starting position here. However, both pitchers have solid first-in-order stats, and these teams rank 29th and 30th when it comes to the percentage of their output from the top three hitters.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Pittsburgh Pirates YRFI: This game has an even higher overall score at 9.5, with both teams roughly average in top 3 hitter performance. Both starters have solid first lap splits but not enough to overcome the other factors.

Colorado Rockies vs. Kansas City Royals YRFI: This is another 9.5 run total game, although there are two relatively weak offenses overall. On the plus side, both handle a relatively high proportion of their offense from the top of their respective lineups.

Los Angeles Angels vs. Houston Astros NRFI: We have a strong duel here where two teams I generally prefer to bet YRFIs on against two pitchers I like to bet NRFIs on. Both Shohei Ohtani and Framber Valdez have excellent first time-through-the-order numbers and should have what it takes to deal with all the star hitters they face in the first inning.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. New York Yankees YRFI: Tonight in LA is Clayton Kershaw vs. Luis Severino, a match that sounds better for the NRFI on paper.

The model likes the yes-runs side, though, mostly because by this point in his career, Kershaw has become a “feeling” pitcher who’s getting into games better and better.

Severino has a 1.59 ERA in two starts, but has xFIP and SIERA scores in the mid-four range, so it could be a step backwards for him too.

Baltimore Orioles vs. San Francisco Giants YRFI: Based on the odds, this is my favorite bet tonight. I’m shocked that we’re getting plus money here as both teams are top-heavy offensive players. Also, neither pitcher is particularly dominant the first time in the sequence.

Airports have changed a lot over the years, both for better and for worse. On the one hand, they have some incredible amenities that would have been unthinkable decades ago. On the other hand, many airports just haven’t grown efficiently and don’t seem to care about the passenger experience. And while we’re at it: It’s also not a great sight when mass brawls regularly break out at airports.

In this post, I thought it would be fun to talk a little bit about the best airports in the world. I’m sharing what I think are the best airports and then I’d love to hear what OMAAT readers think.

What makes an airport great?

The fundamental problem in deciding which airport is the “best” is that airports serve different needs for different travelers at different times.

Passengers can have very different experiences depending on whether they are departing or transferring at one airport, how long they plan to stay at the airport, which terminal they are departing from, whether they need to change terminals, and whether they have lounge access, when they have to go through security or immigration control, etc.

Let me give some examples:

If you fly first class with Lufthansa and take off from Frankfurt Airport (FRA), this might be the best airport in the world for you thanks to the first class terminal. For everyone else, that’s definitely not the case

There’s a lot to be said about airports that get you from the curb to the gate as quickly as possible; Tampa Airport (TPA), for example, is a great place to do this thanks to the way the concourses are set up and I can always get from the curb to the gate within five minutes

There are individual terminals in the United States that I believe are world-class in design, such as the Tom Bradley International Terminal at Los Angeles Airport (LAX), but they still don’t offer passengers a great passenger experience, given the wait times security controls and easy access between gates

As an Avgeek, I absolutely love the design of some of the terminals at Paris Airport (CDG), but that’s pretty much the only thing I like about the airport (besides the amazing Air France La Premiere Lounge).

The Tom Bradley Terminal at LAX is beautiful

I just want to say with all of this that I don’t think there are any right or wrong answers to the question of which airports are the best. Everyone is looking for different things, so it all depends on personal needs and preferences. In this sense …

Frankfurt is the best airport in the world… sometimes

My favorite airports in the world

I thought I’d tell you my three favorite airports in the world. I don’t think these airports will come as much of a surprise. All three airports are in Asia (including the Middle East). Two of these airports have been my favorites in the past, while one airport has grown on me lately.

With that in mind, below are my three favorite airports, in no particular order…

Singapore Changi Airport (SIN)

Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) has been widely recognized as the best airport in the world for as long as I can remember, and with good reason. The airport has countless amenities, from the world’s most impressive shopping mall to great food and drink shops, a butterfly garden and a cinema.

The jewel at Singapore Changi Airport

The airport is also immaculately clean, and the public restrooms in the airport are cleaner than virtually any restroom you’ll find in the world’s best first-class lounges. For those with longer connections, the airport offers several transit hotels and some solid lounges.

Beautiful Terminal 3 of Singapore Changi Airport

That being said, there are a few things I don’t like about the airport. First of all, while I understand the reason for this, I’m not a big fan of the fact that security is done at each individual gate and not centralized. It’s always nice to go through security at the beginning of your stay rather than right before boarding.

Second, while Terminal 3 and Terminal 4 are great, Terminal 2 is definitely not that impressive and is actually quite dated. In addition, the connection between Terminal 4 and the other terminals is not particularly smooth.

Hong Kong International Airport (HKG)

Hong Kong is one of my favorite cities in the world and Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) is also one of my favorite airports. I love the architecture and the open air feel, I love the great plane viewing, I find the airport easy to navigate and I appreciate the first class lounges.

I love Hong Kong Airport architecture

Haven’t been to the airport since the new Sky Bridge opened so I’m looking forward to checking this out as I think for us Avgeeks it takes the airport to the next level.

Hong Kong Airport has a great lounge (hopefully reopening soon!)

Doha Hamad Airport (DOH)

This is something new for me. I used to think Doha Hamad Airport (DOH) was a perfectly convenient hub, but nothing special. However, with the recent expansion of the airport, I think this might actually be my new favorite airport in the world.

The airport is modern, has excellent lounges, a beautiful garden area, countless shopping, food and beverage outlets and is really easy to get to.Doha Hamad Airport has a beautiful new garden

However, what sets Doha Hamad Airport apart from other major airports is the fact that the entire airport is a single terminal. I think this is grossly underrated, especially for the average traveler. From the central security check you should be able to get almost anywhere within 10 to 15 minutes, which is not the case at most major airports.

For example, try connecting from Concourse A to Concourse C at Dubai Airport (DXB). Although the airport has a train system, it’s still basically a marathon. This is the case at so many airports.Doha Hamad Airport is easily accessible

Other notable airports

Although the above airports are my favorite airports, I am not claiming that they are objectively the best airports in the world. It is purely my personal choice based on my travel preferences and needs. I would of course like to acknowledge that there are many other great airports. Just to name a few:

In Asia, Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND) and Seoul Incheon Airport (ICN) are also highly regarded, although not quite as good as the above for me

I think Bahrain Airport (BAH) and Muscat Airport (MCT) are two great newly built airport hubs, although they are much smaller than the above airports

Istanbul New Airport (IST) has an impressive terminal that I love walking through, but maybe the terminal is almost a bit too big?

Detroit Airport (DTW) and San Francisco Airport (SFO) are probably the two best in the United States, although Detroit Airport doesn’t excite me particularly, while San Francisco Airport, while nice individual terminals, can be a hassle to connect

While I wouldn’t call it world-class, the new Terminal 2 at Panama City Airport (PTY) is setting a new standard for the region

In Europe, I think the most impressive hubs are in Northern Europe and I can’t in good conscience say many good things about other airports on the continent

Bahrain’s new airport is beautiful

bottom line

Airports have evolved a lot over the years, although as expected we’ve seen more improvements in some regions than others. My personal favorite airports are Singapore, Hong Kong and Doha, although there are of course many other great airports.

There is never a right or wrong answer as to which airport is the best as it is difficult for one airport to be equally good for all travelers as we are all looking for different things. However, I think the above three airports strike a good balance.

Which is your favorite airport in the world?

Have the Seahawks made progress on their biggest division rival? Did the Eagles’ punishing defense hold serve from last season? Have the Cardinals stopped their free fall?

The 49ers went without a first-round pick for the second year in a row, but there were still plenty of moves to watch on Thursday. Here are the six most notable from Day 1 of the draft…

No. 2: QB CJ Stroud, Texans

Had the Texans dropped a quarterback in the first round, there would have been speculation that a trade for Trey Lance was in the works. After all, Houston’s top two coaches, DeMeco Ryans, and offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik know Lance well, and Lance is familiar with the offense that Slowik is installing. In addition, the Texans had a ton of picks from last year’s Deshaun Watson trade to negotiate this year and next.

Instead, Houston wasted no time in snapping up Stroud, the quarterback of the future. The Panthers did the same up front with Alabama’s Bryce Young, while the Colts picked Florida’s Anthony Richardson in fourth place.

Teams that still have quarterback question marks either this year or next include the Commanders, Falcons, Packers, Vikings, Buccaneers, Titans and Patriots. That the last two being AFC teams is likely to put them at the top of the “ideal trade partners” list when Lance’s trade talk – inevitably – heats up again.

GO DEEPER

San Francisco 49ers NFL Draft Picks 2023: Grades, Fits, and Scouting Reports

No.5: CB Devon Witherspoon, Seahawks

As the 49ers build their defense back from the line, Pete Carroll’s defense is led from the secondary. His “Legion of Boom” teams were eventually fueled by cornerback Richard Sherman and safeties Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor.

Carroll deviated a bit by taking Witherspoon so early. He is Seattle’s first first-round cornerback since 2006 (Kelly Jennings). Witherspoon will join Tariq Woolen, a fifth-rounder who made the Pro Bowl last year, at outside cornerback. They will eventually be paired with safeties Jamal Adams and Quandre Diggs to create what the Seahawks hope is a “Legion of Boom” of the latter days.

With the 20th pick, Seattle added Ohio State’s Jaxon Smith-Njigba to a receiver group that already had DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. The 49ers’ top three cornerbacks right now are Charvarius Ward, Deommodore Lenoir and newcomer Isaiah Oliver.

The Seahawks could restore a dominant runner-up with the addition of Devon Witherspoon. (Courtesy Illinois)

No. 6: OT Paris Johnson Jr., Cardinals

The Cardinals have had a chaotic offseason. Coach Kliff Kingsbury was fired in January, while general manager Steve Keim decided to retire from the team.

Their leader of the defense, Budda Baker, has asked for a trade. And just before Thursday’s draft began, it was revealed that the Cardinals had traded third-round picks with the Eagles as part of a tampering case involving the hiring of new head coach Jonathan Gannon. (Philadelphia also sent Arizona a 2024 fifth-round pick.)

It’s no surprise, then, that Arizona stayed steady in Johnson, the top left tackle in the draft. Kyler Murray has been sacked 133 times since joining the league in 2019. The Cardinals, who won four games last season, also grabbed an additional second-round pick this year and next year, after trading, first- and third-round picks from the Texans from the No. 3 pitch.

No. 9: DT Jalen Carter, Eagles

The 49ers may have weakened their biggest NFC rival by signing Javon Hargrave into a free hand. The question now is whether Philadelphia replaced him with Carter.

Some saw the 314-pounder as the most talented player in the draft – a taller version of Hargrave. He was definitely one of the most controversial, having last month failed to contest two charges of racing and reckless driving following a car crash that killed teammate Devin Willock and Georgia recruiting analyst Chandler LeCroy, no doubt causing him to slip.

The Eagles traded the 10th pick and a fourth-round pick of 2024 to the Bears to snap Carter on pick #9. They then traded the #30 pick for another pass rusher, Carter’s Georgia teammate Nolan Smith.

A possible frontline lineup when the 49ers visit Philadelphia this year: Brandon Graham, Fletcher Cox, Carter, Josh Sweat and Haason Reddick…with Smith coming in from the sidelines.

No 12: RB Jahmyr Gibbs, Lions

While the Eagles, 49ers and Cowboys sit on the NFC, some believe the Lions — who have won eight of their last 10 games in 2022 — are knocking on the door.

However, their best pick seemed to contradict coach Dan Campbell’s bite-in-the-kneecap style. Gibbs is rabbit fast and an excellent pass catcher from the backfield. But it weighs less than 200 pounds and some are wondering if it will be a drive-by traffic jam.

The Lions and Campbell returned to their worker brand with number 18, Iowa linebacker Jack Campbell.

No. 29: DT Bryan Bresee, Saints

Yes, the Saints are an NFC rival. But that pick is significant for the 49ers as it was the last they sent to Miami in 2021 as part of the deal that allowed them to move up to No. 3 where they took Lance.

Since then, selections have gone from Miami to Denver and finally to New Orleans. The Saints taking a defensive tackle seems appropriate. That’s what the 49ers probably would have done if they’d held on to the pickaxe.

WagerTalk MLB handicapper Tony Finn gives us his updated MLB Power Rankings for Week 3 of the MLB season. Which teams are climbing up and down his power rankings? Read his MLB betting advice now! Also check out WagerTalk’s Ultimate Guide to Baseball Betting.

MLB Power Rankings: Week 3

1. Atlanta Braves – Record: 12-4 (Week 2 rank: 1)

The Braves played their way to the top of the National League East in the first full week of the season without the services of Cy Young hopeful and starting pitcher Max Fried (out/hamstring). This week, the Braves were a perfect 5-0 to stay on top of the WagerTalk MLB Power Poll.

Shortstop Orlando Arcia (wrist) retired from Wednesday’s match against Cincinnati after his wrist was struck; he’s on the 10-day IL and it’s unclear how long he’ll be out.

Catcher Travis d’Arnaud (concussion) landed on the 7-day IL last Sunday after colliding with home plate.

OF Michael Harris II (back) had not been cleared for live batting practice and was able to activate today but his return is still in doubt.

With all the talk about the two young lefties for Atlanta this spring (Shuster and Dodd), it’s the vanilla-flavored Bryce Elder that plugged the hole in the levee.

His first 12 1/3 innings of work resulted in wins in Atlanta. Elder made consecutive scoreless quality starts and made a third round in an interleague matchup against the Royals on Saturday, resulting in the young right-hander being the record pitcher and extending his young-season record to 2-0.

Starter Kyle Wright, who led all baseball with 21 wins a season ago, was activated by the IL and took the ball for a three-inning start at Truist Park against the Reds Tuesday and again Sunday in Kansas City against the Royals . Wright was not involved in either decision, but the Braves won in both of Wright’s starts.

2. Tampa Bay Rays – Record: 14-2 (Week 2 rank: 2)

Rays ace Shane McClanahan hit six effective innings in his fourth straight win on Sunday, and the Tampa Bay Rays avoided a three-game win by beating the Toronto Blue Jays 8-1 on Sunday. The win ended the club’s two-game losing streak, Friday and Saturday night losses, the first and second of the season after the new season started 13-0.

Tampa Bay promoted one of the organization’s top picks, Taj Bradley, to his big league debut Wednesday against the Red Sox; The 22-year-old allowed three runs on five hits and a walk while striking out eight over five innings of work.

3. Milwaukee Brewers – Record: 11-5 (Week 2 rank: 5)

The Brewers won a sweep by the Mets and two-of-three by division rivals St. Louis Cardinals. Their NL-leading pitching team bare knuckled through an early schedule with good lineups. Starting rotation injuries were subsidized by a bullpen who performed above expectations with an ERA of under 1.50.

4. New York Yankees – Record: 10-6 (Week 2 rank: 8)

If New York could clone Gerrit Cole and challenge Alice to pull Groundhog Day out of the top and Mad Hatter’s conditions, flush and repeat Cole’s first three rounds (1.40 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 1.0 bWAR). , the pinstripes would only need Anthony Volpe to play more like “The Captain” and less like a rookie they would challenge the Rays and the Braves for the top of the WagerTalk MLB mountain.

5. Texas Rangers – Record: 9-6 (Week 2 Placement: 6)

Rangers have gone from essentially invisible to a bullseye on their backs, taking three of four of the reigning NL Pennant winners in opening weekend, winning one of three at Wrigley Field and Harry Carry’s Cubs, winning a fistfight with the Baltimore Orioles and He took two of three World Series champions by passing both Fromber Valdez and Luis Garcia.

6. New York Mets – Record: 10-6 (Week 2 rank: 9)

7. Los Angeles Dodgers – Record: 8-8 (Week 2 rank: 3)

8. Houston Astros – Record: 7-9 (Week 2 rank: 7)

9. San Diego Padres – Record: 8-9 (Week 2 Placement: 4)

10. Minnesota Twins – Record: 10-6 (Week 2 rank: 12)

11. Toronto Blue Jays – Record: 10-6 (Placement Week 2: 10)

12. Seattle Mariners – Record: 8-8 (Week 2 rank: 17)

13. Cleveland Indians – Record: 9-7 (Placement Week 2: 11)

14. Chicago Cubs – Record: 8-6 (Week 2 rank: 14)

15. Los Angeles Angels – Record: 7-8 (Week 2 Ladder: 13)

16. Baltimore Orioles – Record: 9-7 (Placement Week 1: 20)

17. Pittsburgh Pirates – Record: 9-7 (Week 2 rank: 19)

18. Boston Red Sox – Record: 8-8 (Placement Week 2: 22)

19. Miami Marlins – Record: 8-8 (Placement Week 2: 24)

20. St. Louis Cardinals – Record: 7-9 (Week 2 ranking: 18)

21. Arizona Diamondbacks – Record: 9-7 (Week 2 rank: 21)

22. Philadelphia Phillies – Record: 6-10 (Placement Week 2: 16)

23. Chicago White Sox – Record: 6-10 (Placement Week 2: 15)

24. San Francisco Giants – Record: 5-9 (Week 2 rank: 23)

25. Cincinnati Reds – Record: 6-9 (Week 2 rank: 26)

If ifs and buts had been candy and nuts, the Reds would have had a Merry Christmas and been gifted a bullpen arm with a pitch in. The result of St. Nick dropping a stopper down the chimney would find the Reds at 9-6 instead of 6-9 in Week 4.

26. Colorado Rockies – Record: 5-11 (Week 2 rank: 25)

The Rockies fall back just one spot despite working on a five-game losing streak that goes into this week’s Power Poll. The only reason they haven’t fallen further is because Washington lost four out of five, Detroit just finished a six-game slip and thrived against a porous San Francisco Giants roster, while Kansas City and Oakland were last both places in 2023 rankings until hell freezes over.

27th Washington Nationals – Record: 5-11 (Placement Week 2: 27)

The Nationals defeated the Cleveland Guardians 7-6 on Sunday to avert a three-game sweep and give away their 27th-place finish in the Power Poll to the Motown Tigers.

28. Detroit Tigers – Record: 5-9 (Placement Week 2: 28)

The Tigers have won three straight games from a 2-9 start. The three-game winning streak allows Detroit to fend off the Royals and the Athletics. At present.

29. Kansas City Royals – Record: 4-12 (Week 2 rank: 29)

The American League Central currently has three out of four division members at the bottom of the league’s home run rankings. The 27th, 28th, and 29th place finishers of the league’s 30 franchises, Kansas City, Detroit, and Cleveland, have combined 31 home runs in 2023. The 31 combined home runs are six fewer than the Tampa Bay Rays’ 37 Dingers in the season.

30. Oakland Athletics – Record: 3-13 (Week 2 Ladder: 30)

The 49ers have reached the NFC Championship Game in three of the last four seasons, including an appearance in Super Bowl LIV in the 2019 season. Last season, San Francisco opened the year with a 3-4 record before starting the regular season with ended a 10-game winning streak and won the NFC West with a 13-4 record despite using three different starting quarterbacks.

Trey Lance started the first two games of last season before suffering a season-ending ankle injury Jimmy Garoppolo return to the starting role for 10 games. After Garoppolo sustained a foot injury, rookie Brock Purdy stepped in and won his first seven career starts, winning five straight in the regular season before beating the Seahawks and Cowboys in the playoffs. Purdy, the “Mr. Irrelevant” as the final overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, went down early in the NFC Championship Game in Philadelphia with an elbow injury, forcing the fourth string josh johnson in action. Purdy underwent offseason elbow surgery and the 49ers must now decide who will be the best QB between Purdy and Lance.

For the second year in a row, the 49ers are without a pick in the first round after trading away their top picks in 2022 and 2023 to advance to the Select QB Trey Lance Third overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. They also traded their second-round pick this year to the Panthers in the Christian McCaffrey Last season’s deal, meaning the 49ers’ first pick of this year’s draft will not come until the third round (99th overall).

Justin Herbert’s Los Angeles Chargers (5-3) have the better record, but it’s Jimmy Garoppolo and the San Francisco 49ers (4-4) who are favored at home by a touchdown in this Week 10 matchup.

The 49ers have been rolling on offense since adding Christian McCaffrey to an already talented unit featuring Deebo Samuel and George Kittle. Meanwhile, the Chargers are banged up on both sides of the field and have been scrapping to get wins. Which team comes out on top? The game is set to kick off Sunday at 8:20 pm ET from Levi’s Stadium.

Here’s a look at the betting details and USA TODAY’s NFL staff picks for the Chargers vs. 49ers Week 10 game:

Chargers at 49ers odds, moneyline and over/under

Follow every game: Live NFL Scores

NFL BOLD PREDICTIONS:NFL bold predictions for the second half: When will Eagles lose? Bears… in the playoffs?

WEEK 9 NFL COACHING GRADE:Bengals, Jets score high marks after big wins; Colts, Raiders fail

NFL WEEK 9 WINNERS AND LOSERS:Tom Brady saves Buccaneers’ season, Packers hit rock bottom

Lorenzo Reyes: 49ers 30, Chargers 20

The Chargers escaped Sunday in a game they should’ve lost. Their offense is frustratingly inefficient at times, and coordinator Joe Lombardi’s job is in peril. San Francisco is at home and off the bye.

Safid Deen: 49ers 27, Chargers 20

The injured Chargers are finding a way to stay alive this season, but it won’t find success against a revamped 49ers team pushing toward the Super Bowl this season. It’ll be fought hard, but San Francisco wins.

Lance Pugmire: 49ers 30, Chargers 17

Plagued by injuries and dubious coaching, Los Angeles falls prey to the sudden NFC power on Sunday night. At least the Chargers don’t have to feel the sting of playing a road game at home given what the 49ers’ throng annually do to the Rams.

32 THINGS WE LEARNED:Bills may regret last week; Packers, Rams done?

After getting throttled at home by the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7, Jimmy Garoppolo and the San Francisco 49ers (3-4) find themselves in desperate need of a win on the road against Matthew Stafford’s Los Angeles Rams (3-3) in a game with huge NFC West ramifications.

The Rams have had their fair share of struggles during the 2022 season, but will Stafford, Cooper Kupp and Co. find some rhythm coming out of the bye in a wide-open division? Or can Garoppolo, Christian McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel pull off a tough win on the road? The game kicks off Sunday at 4:25 pm ET from SoFi Stadium.

Here’s a look at the betting details and USA TODAY’s NFL staff picks for the 49ers vs. Rams Week 8 game:

49ers at Rams odds, moneyline and over/under

Follow every game: Live NFL Scores

OBSCURITY:Brock Purdy, ‘Mr. Irrelevant’ of 2022 NFL draft, makes history in San Francisco 49ers debut

DEADLINE NEARING:One player from each team who could be moved before 2022 NFL trade deadline

NEW LIDS:The NFL has returned alternate helmets in 2022: Ranking all 13 from best to worst

NFL Week 8 odds, predictions and picks

Ravens vs Buccaneers | Broncos vs Jaguars | Dolphins vs Lions | Panthers vs Falcons | Steelers vs Eagles | Raiders vs Saints | Bears vs. Cowboys | Patriots vs Jets | Cardinals vs Vikings | Titans vs Texans | Commanders vs Colts | Giants vs Seahawks | 49ers vs Rams | Packers vs Bills | Bengals vs Browns

Lorenzo Reyes: 49ers 28, Rams 20

This is an interesting matchup as both coaches know each other extremely well. But both teams have been so hot and cold this season, that I’m going to back the team that has the better defense — even though the Chiefs’ buzzsaw ran through them last week. And with a full week to incorporate Christian McCaffrey, I think the Niners cover as road favorites.

Safid Deen: 49ers 24, Rams 17

The 49ers got a rude awakening against the Chiefs last week in Christian McCaffrey’s debut, but their defense loves going up against Matt Stafford, Cooper Kupp and the Rams’ offense, which has yet to find its footing this season. I’ll take San Francisco on the road in this one.

Lance Pugmire: Rams 24, 49ers 21

Refreshed from a bye, Sean McVay finally beats Kyle Shanahan in a regular-season meeting as LA’s defense stifles Christian McCaffrey at home and Cooper Kupp catches three touchdowns.

NFL WEEK 7 WINNERS AND LOSERS:Bengal’s offense returns to form; Packers more than receiver away

32 THINGS WE LEARNED:Observations from Week 7 of 2022 NFL season: What’s wrong with Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers and NFC?

IN DEPTH:The NFL coaches project

NFL salaries: These are the highest-paid NFL players
