The Dodgers are in the middle of a rough patch that the team hasn’t seen much of lately. After beating rival San Francisco Giants last weekend, LA lost just 5-10 in June and slipped to third place in the NL West. The Dodgers, usually good at home, won that last home game 4-2, including a 15-0 loss to the Giants on Saturday night.

All-Star Freddie Freeman opened up about the Dodgers’ struggles and what he thinks is wrong.

“It’s not the ideal situation right now,” said Freddie Freeman, Dodgers first baseman. “It’s hard to even put into words. Every day we come in with the right attitude. … And every day it’s another loss right now. It’s one of those difficult points in the season where you have to struggle, come every day and hope to win. Our team is far too good to survive this phase.”

According to the Orange County Register

Freeman is right that this team is too good to get through this phase, but it’s the reality the Dodgers are in right now. They haven’t shown any consistency on the field lately and honestly you never know what to expect from the games anymore. LA appears to be the team many believe will start the season after losing a slew of talent over the winter.

However, despite all the problems this team has to deal with, they are still just a few games behind the leaders. If they can clean up their game and get back to basics, maybe they can recover. But this team is not at the same level as in previous years. They have some real gaps in the squad that will need to be filled sooner rather than later. Manager Dave Roberts spoke about the track and how they can get the ship back on track.

“Looking back over that two-week span, there are a lot of things that we’re not doing well,” Roberts said. “We don’t play clean baseball, we don’t play fundamental baseball. I think it’s about not just winning, but focusing on the little things: catching the baseball, minimizing walks, throwing to the right base, not getting thrown at the bases. Making a pickoff play – these are the things that keep haunting us. Normally we are much better at it.”

According to the Orange County Register

The Dodgers were embarrassed by their rivals last weekend. Maybe that’s what it takes to ignite the spark from this team. Maybe the pride comes out and they say enough is enough. Whatever they have to do, they have to implement it quickly, otherwise this season could be lost. Both the players and the front office are to blame and changes need to be made as the trade deadline is fast approaching.

LA has a day off Monday before heading to a two-game series with the Angels. Maybe the extra time off will help this team get back on track.

The land use permit process in California is notoriously complicated, lengthy and fraught with uncertainty. Less attention is paid to the process of obtaining building permits and subsequent approval. Generally, this process is simpler because local authority verification is limited to ensuring compliance with state and local building codes. Accordingly, the granting of building permits is usually a ministerial act, not subject to the discretion of city or county officials and not subject to appeal. However, in San Francisco, post-planning permits are barred from appeal to the Board of Appeal only if the project has received a conditional occupancy permit from the Planning Commission under Section 4.106(b) of the Charter. AB 1114, introduced by Rep. and former San Francisco Supervisor Matt Haney, would extend these protections to other housing projects that, for example, have only received a downtown project permit or a major project permit.

AB 1114 provides that building permits for projects that are “at least two-thirds residential” cannot be contested. It builds on previous legislation AB 2234, which sets strict timelines for local authorities to respond to and issue subsequent building permits for housing projects that meet existing application requirements. If passed, the bill would apply these deadlines to qualifying San Francisco housing projects and protect them from objections to building permits, regardless of the underlying eligibility.

In the Assembly Committee reports, Rep. Haney explained that the legislation was necessary because it could take almost two years to get back-to-back planning permission in San Francisco, due in part to the possibility of planning permission appeals, and that as a result, Die City “is struggling to build housing and is falling behind the rest of the state on its affordable housing goals.” The committee’s reports cite data from the California Department of Housing and Community Development, which shows that it’s an average of 450 days can take to get claims in San Francisco and an average of 524 days to get permits to start construction on a qualifying project — the longest time of any jurisdiction that allowed more than 10 projects.

The bill was recently passed by the Assembly and will now go to the Senate. We will continue to monitor progress and provide status updates.

The patch adds some nice quality of life improvements, including a much-needed auto-pickup feature and the ability to increase subtitle size for better readability. But perhaps the most interesting feature of this patch is the addition of a Thalassophobia mode.

Thalassophobia, simply put, is the fear of deep water. Throughout the Forbidden West, Aloy has opportunities to go deep sea diving in the post-apocalyptic San Francisco Bay and elsewhere. There is a point in the story where she can essentially develop a scuba tank for extended periods of underwater exploration. According to the developers, Thalassophobia mode aims to “relieve thalassophobia symptoms by improving the visibility of the underwater environment and allowing you to breathe indefinitely, regardless of story progression.”

Video games are slowly getting better with their accessibility features. First-party Sony games in particular are known for the wealth of options tailored to individual and specific needs, such as: B. High-contrast modes for people with visual impairments and an audio cue mode that triggers a sound when an interactive object is nearby.

But accessibility means more than meeting people of different physical abilities there, and some games also take into account things that wouldn’t necessarily count as disabilities but still present a barrier to entry for some players. Grounded, the Xbox exclusive about kids shrunk to the size of ants and forced to survive in their backyard, features an arachnophobia mode that turns the game’s spiders into harmless-looking blobs. The as yet unreleased Final Fantasy XVI has gear that makes performing combat, dodging, and quick time events much easier. Meanwhile, Amnesia: Rebirth, an entry in a franchise known for its frightening atmosphere, has an adventure mode that turns on the lights and takes out the monsters.

It’s nice to see the team at Guerrilla thinking beyond physical ability when designing accessibility features for games. It’s something I wish Nintendo had done for misophoniacs like me in regards to Splatoon – all those inkblots make the game a no go for me.

But as cool as the Thalassaphobia mode for Horizon Forbidden West is, part of me wishes there was a reverse mode to make the sea even scarier. The rolling waves in Forbidden West were so incredible and lifelike that I remember feeling uncomfortable during my playthrough. And while Forbidden West isn’t a horror game, the idea of plumbing the inky depths with a Sonic-like air timer counting down seems to give the fun but relatively tame game the touch of thrill it needs.
