NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) – It’s no secret that people flock to Nashville every day. However, it is not just people from all over the country, but also from all over the world.

As Nashville continues to grow and become more than just a city known for country music, tech and healthcare professionals are starting to dominate. International companies are paying attention.

“Nashville is on the map, not for the country, not for the Southeast, but for the whole world as a real estate investment market,” said Joel Sanders, Founder and CEO of Apartment Insiders. “It used to be one of those flyover markets where that kind of money only went to New York City or San Francisco, and now those investment dollars are going to Nashville.”

According to recent censuses, the number of companies and corporations with international connections in Nashville has almost doubled in the past 10 years. This in turn creates more jobs and more real estate needs.

The countries with the most immigrants are Great Britain, Australia and Japan.

“Nashville has always had this interesting connection with Japan,” said Sanders. “We have Nissan, we have Nissan, we have Bridgestone, even Mitsubishi just got a bunch of jobs here, and even the current Senator from Tennessee was the ambassador to Japan, so there was this unique bond.”

In December, non-stop flights from Nashville to London via British Airways were resumed at Nashville International Airport. Airport leaders said more international offerings will be added in the coming years.

Tech workers are fleeing San Francisco and New York to cheaper cities, but Miami isn’t a big destination according to new data.

Austin, Texas saw the largest influx of tech workers during the pandemic, with 217 software and IT workers moving to the city for every 10,000 existing workers. Nashville came in second with 154.7 net techies per 10,000, followed by Charlotte, NC, with 145.8; Jacksonville, Florida, at 136; and Denver with 130.4.

Other cities in the top 10 are Seattle, Tampa Bay, Las Vegas and Dallas-Fort Worth.

Miami ranked 11th, however, drawing only 76.6 software and information technology company employees per 10,000 existing employees between May 2020 and April 2021, according to LinkedIn data.

And that’s despite Miami’s popularity on Wall Street and the fact that Miami Mayor Francis Suarez has tried to woo CEOs like Elon Musk on Twitter while trying to pay public employees’ salaries in Bitcoin and the To influence the state so that the city can publicly invest money in cryptocurrency.

Some tech giants like Microsoft and Twitter have told many employees they can work from home forever while Apple is spending billions of dollars building offices in smaller cities like Austin and Raleigh, NC.

TaskRabbit, the San Francisco-based handyman app, is expanding to Nashville Thursday, adding to the city’s rapidly growing on-demand services.

Customers use the app to hire individuals known as “taskers” to help them with everyday tasks – assembling furniture, hanging pictures, putting up a television, etc. The company operates in 24 cities and has 60,000 Employees who perform tasks.

“Today, middle-class families who are working parents, both outside the home or both working in some way, just can’t get through all of the things on their to-do lists,” said Stacy Brown-Philpot, CEO of TaskRabbit. “We’re going to help you resolve this pain point by helping you remove some of these things from your to-do list.”

The TaskRabbit business model helps Taskers supplement income when wages in full-time and part-time jobs are inadequate, Brown-Philpot said. The average hourly income for Tasker is $ 35. She points out that it is more than four times the federal minimum wage.

TaskRabbit customers download the app, select the task they want to do, and choose a Tasker who will respond within 30 minutes. The Tasker tells a customer when to come by based on customer preferences and sets the rate. All tasks are insured, and TaskRabbit does background checks for its Taskers.

TaskRabbit is moving to local Takl, which started in the on-demand craft niche in Nashville last year. Founded by Willis Johnson, a Frankliner, the company expanded to 700 cities and was powered by a high-visibility advertising campaign.

Takl has 2,000 employees providing craft services in the Nashville area, with house cleaning, gardening, and garbage disposal among the most popular services, according to the company.

“The peer-to-peer economy is revolutionizing the way people get things done,” said Johnson. “We have launched the Takl app in hundreds of cities and look forward to expanding our product across America.”

Beyond housework, the on-demand model has caught on with workers and customers in Nashville looking for grocery delivery, meal delivery, transportation, haircut, and fuel, among other things. Employees will aggregate their incomes through multiple apps or take up jobs as they please in their spare time.
