Atherton's former arborist has been identified as the woman found stabbed to death in her Menlo Park home.

Kathleen Anne Hughes Anderson, 62, was the arborist for the City of Atherton for 22 years, from November 1989 until her retirement in November 2011. She was the widow of Billy “Andy” Anderson, who owned Dahl Plumbing on Alma Street in Palo Alto. Andy Anderson died in 2007.

Before his death, the two were married for about 30 years and had no children.

Anderson was from Decatur, Illinois, and came to California to attend school in the 1980s, said her brother-in-law, Barry Anderson, who also works for the post office. The couple were regulars at the Alpine Beer Garden in Portola Valley.

Anderson was known for her green thumb at work and at home. Barry Anderson said her garden at her home at 925 Valparaiso Ave. was “amazing.”

Atherton Town Clerk Theresa DellaSanta said Anderson “was very passionate about her work as an arborist.”

Franz Wolke

“She had a deep passion for landscaping and trees, and she shared that love with many of our town residents by spending time with them in their gardens and giving them insight into tree pruning and planting,” DellaSanta wrote. “It was the little things Kathy did around town that residents remember and came to love about her. Kathy was a beacon of positivity to all who came into contact with her, and her impact on the trees in Atherton will last for many generations to come.”

Police found Anderson stabbed to death in her home on Wednesday (Dec. 12) after receiving a 911 call from Daniel Baggett, a former tenant of Anderson's. Baggett told police to The Post he stopped by at 5 p.m. on Wednesday after driving by and noticing her garbage cans were still on the side of the road a day after garbage collection. He also saw that her bedroom window, which was normally open, was closed, he said.

Baggett said he saw the back door was open and went into the house. He spotted Francis Wolke, 36, of Cincinnati, Ohio, at the top of the stairs. Baggett called 911. Police arrested Wolke on suspicion of first-degree murder.

Was there a connection between the three people?

District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said Friday that his office and Menlo Park police are still investigating the connection between Wolke, Baggett and Anderson, if there is one. Wagstaffe said the relationship between Anderson and Baggett was not rosy and that investigators are “digging” into the pasts of the three people to find a connection.

Wolke had an arrest warrant issued by the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office for prowling and drug possession from a 2014 case.

While police believe Wolke's current address is in Cincinnati, records indicate he was living in San Francisco in 2014. Wagstaffe said Wolke has not made any statement about why he allegedly murdered Anderson.

Wagstaffe said Anderson died as a result of being stabbed in the head with a “sharp object,” but because the investigation is ongoing, he could not yet identify the object.

Wolke is in prison without bail.

Joseph Emerson is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday on 83 charges of recklessly endangering another person — for each person on the plane — and one charge of endangering an aircraft.

He previously pleaded not guilty to attempted murder charges filed by state prosecutors and to a federal charge of interfering with a flight crew.

Emerson’s defence lawyers welcomed the grand jury’s decision.

“The attempted murder charges were never appropriate in this case because Captain Emerson never intended to hurt another person or put anyone at risk – he just wanted to return home to his wife and children,” his defence lawyers Ethan Levi, Noah Horst and Norah Van Dusen said in a statement. “Simply put: Captain Emerson thought he was in a dream.”

Prosecutors have accused Emerson of trying to cut the engines on the October 22 flight from Everett, Washington, to San Francisco while riding in the extra seat in the cockpit.

The FBI said in an affidavit that after a brief struggle, Emerson left the cockpit and flight attendants placed him in wrist restraints and seated him in the rear of the aircraft which was diverted to Portland.

According to charging documents, Emerson told Port of Portland police he had been struggling with depression, that a friend had recently died and that he had taken psychedelic mushrooms about 48 hours before he attempted to cut the engines. He also said he had not slept in more than 40 hours.

Emerson remains in custody in Multnomah County, Oregon.

The San Francisco neighborhood where Cash App founder Bob Lee was stabbed to death had at least 12 murders so far this year and is “severely lacking” in police presence, a top police union official told The Post.

Lee’s brutal attack was just one of four stabbing incidents which occurred earlier this week in the Democrat-run city’s Southern and Tenderloin Districts, which have been plagued with rising crime rates, said Lt. Tracy McCray, vice president of the San Francisco Police Officers Association.

“We are short staffed so just our presence in patrolling is severely lacking right now. To see a certain uptick in crime is to be expected but I think we are now at a precipice where we could go one way or the other,” McCray said.

Lee, 43, was stabbed multiple times in the chest early Tuesday morning at about 2:35 a.m. as he walked in the city’s posh Rincon Hill neighborhood, which is in the Southern District and near the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge.

Bob Lee, the 43-year-old father and founder of Cash App was stabbed several times, according to San Francisco Police officials. Bob Lee/Facebook

Chilling 911 audio revealed Lee screamed for help as he bled out on the street in front of a residential building called the Portside at the 300 block of Main Street.

Video footage showed the tech mogul holding his cell phone and desperately flagging down passing cars before collapsing.

No arrests have been made and San Francisco Police have yet to release a description of possible suspects.

“We have not released any video surveillance or photos so we can’t confirm or comment on any images or videos at this point,” said Allison Maxie, spokeswoman for SFPD, told The Post on Friday.

According to police statistics, robbery in the Southern District, which includes Rincon Hill, has increased by about 14 percent compared to last year. From January to April 2, there have been 12 homicides in the area.

Flowers sit at a tree in front of the building where a technology executive Bob Lee was fatally stabbed. AP

Violent crimes also saw an uptick of 7.5% over the past three years throughout San Francisco, while property crime has exploded to 20.7% over the past three years, according to crime stats.

While overall violent crime fell 13.6% from 2019 to 2022, homicides rose 36.6%, from 41 to 56 in the city of 815,000.

San Francisco’s rising crime rates helped fuel last year’s recall efforts against progressive District Attorney Chesa Boudin, who was ousted over his soft-on-crime policies.

Locals said the Rincon area where Lee was killed boasts multimillion dollar high rise apartments where tech industry moguls, celebrities and members of the Golden State Warriors basketball team have been known to live.

Although the neighborhood is usually quiet, they fear residents and visitors could easily become victims.

“You see people around here with really nice cars and dress really well, and they could be a target,” a local told The Post. “When I heard what happened to him [Lee], the first thing that came to my head was, ‘What would he be doing here around that time?’ You do see people from all walks of life around here but what was a super wealthy person like him doing wandering the streets like that? It doesn’t make sense.”

Whole Foods opened a store in San Francisco, US, in March 2022, but months later reduced its hours after “grand theft” — the closure came just weeks after Cash App founder and tech superstar Bob Lee was killed in the city

Whole Foods has closed its store after admitting employees were unsafe in the city (whole food market)

Whole Foods has closed its San Francisco store because the company “cannot ensure the safety of employees” days after tech mogul Bob Lee was stabbed to death.

The popular supermarket chain had opened a flagship store in March 2022, but just months later the store reduced its hours in San Francisco, California, amid rising drug problems and “frequent thefts”.

The store experienced hostile customers and store managers were forced to restrict use of the toilets to customers after used syringes and tubes were found on the floor in November.

Local shopper Allyn Mejia said she wasn’t surprised the company had raised concerns about employees after security guards burst into the store to deal with unruly customers.

She told Newsweek, “I saw security rush into the store very quickly before anything happened.”

Tech mogul Bob Lee was attacked in San Francisco

San Francisco District Manager Matt Dorsey said he was “incredibly disappointed but sadly not surprised” by the closure of Whole Foods.

“Our neighborhood has been waiting for this supermarket for a long time, but we’re also aware of the problems they’ve had with retail drug thefts, adjacent drug markets and the many security issues that come with it,” he said.

A Whole Foods Market spokesman told the San Francisco Standard that the closure may be temporary.

A homeless man is seen in the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco(Agency Anadolu via Getty Images)

It said: “We are only closing our Trinity location for the time being. When we feel we can ensure the safety of our team members in store, we will consider reopening our Trinity location.”

The decision to close the store came after Cash App founder Bob Lee died in San Francisco on April 4 after being stabbed twice in the chest.

His death sparked an outcry from tech leaders like Elon Musk and revealed fears of a deepening drug and crime crisis in San Francisco, a well-known tech hub.

Homeless people are seen in San Francisco(Agency Anadolu via Getty Images)

According to the victim’s friend, the tech boss himself had moved out of the California city because he feared things were “getting worse.”

And Mr Musk said he was “very sorry” to hear about Mr Lee’s death, before criticizing what he saw as a crime out of control.

He tweeted: “A lot of people I know have been badly attacked. Violent crimes in SF are horrific, and even when attackers are caught, they are often released immediately.”

The city has a high crime and drug rate (Agency Anadolu via Getty Images)

The billionaire called San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jennings and asked, “Is the city taking stricter measures to incarcerate repeat offenders?”

Matt Ocko, a technology entrepreneur and venture capitalist from Palo Alto, California, tweeted that the leaders of “lawless” San Francisco had “literally blood on their hands” from Mr Lee following the recent raid on the city.

The 43-year-old was visiting San Francisco after returning from Miami for a “quick visit” after planning to stay an extra day, according to friends.

CCTV footage showed Mr Lee walking down an empty San Francisco street in the early hours of the morning, lifting his shirt to show a driver his wounds before driving away.

In disturbing footage from a local newspaper, he was seen begging a driver: “Help. Someone stabbed me.”

Flowers and cards were left near the Portside apartment building in San Francisco, California where Bob Lee was tragically stabbed(Agency Anadolu via Getty Images)

According to reports, Mr Lee can be seen on CCTV running towards the Bay Bridge before falling to the ground in front of a residential building around 2.30am.

Police found the engineering chief unconscious before taking him to the hospital, where he tragically died from his injuries.

Amid mounting criticism of escalating crime in her city, San Francisco Mayor London Breed has urged people not to jump to conclusions about the high-profile murder of Cash App founder Bob Lee and a separate attack on a former fire commissioner.

Lee was stabbed to death while visiting San Francisco last week. The police have not released any information about his death, nor have they made any arrests.

A day after his brutal murder, former fire commissioner Don Carmignani was beaten by Garett Doty outside his mother’s house. Doty’s attorney claims Carmignani pepper sprayed him first, provoking the attack.

Carmignani has since appealed to Breed to make policy changes to make the city safer.

Instead of heeding those calls, she defended the city on Saturday, even appearing to imply that the incidents were not examples of senseless crime.

San Francisco Mayor London Breed has urged people not to jump to conclusions about the high-profile murder of Cash App founder Bob Lee and another attack on a former fire commissioner. Cash App founder Bob Lee was stabbed to death last Tuesday. Former fire commissioner Don Carmignani was attacked outside his mother’s house

“I would like to start by clarifying that the information in both cases is not yet public and that it is being investigated.”

“When some facts about many of these cases come out, people will be surprised,” Breed told ABC News, without giving further details.

She also claimed that social media, where many had complained about the state of the city, was exacerbating the problem.

“It’s really aggravated events like this and people jumping to conclusions about what they think is happening.”

Neither Lee’s family nor Carmignani have yet responded to her comments.

Disturbing cellphone footage shared via a local neighborhood app shows a man wandering the local area with a metal crowbar in hand

According to Breed’s office, the San Francisco Police Department is still short of 500 officers to keep the city safe.

The city is now providing an additional $25 million to cover overtime pay for officers still on the job.

Breed claimed on Saturday that this would be enough to ease the crisis.

Democratic city manager Joel Engardino is among those urging the mayor to do more.

“For a city our size, we’re short of more than 500 civil servants.” Hundreds more civil servants may retire in June, and many will. The last police academy graduated 12 new officers. The current academy has only eight cadets.

Lee, seen with his children, was visiting San Francisco from Miami when he was attacked

“It’s not enough if we’re missing 500. That shows me that more money is not the only solution.” Yes, we need this overtime funding.

“But we need to talk about the real reason we have a police staffing crisis — because too few people want to be police officers anymore,” he said in a recent statement.

Harrowing surveillance footage shows Lee stumbling through the city streets after being stabbed to death around 2:30 a.m.

The father and technology investor was visiting from Miami, where he now lives.

He died in hospital after suffering at least two stab wounds, but little else is known about his killing.

The video – first revealed by DailyMail.com – showed him begging a taxi driver for help and stumbling around outside an apartment building.

Meanwhile, one of downtown San Francisco’s largest supermarkets was forced to close just a year after it opened due to widespread drug use, theft and aggressive behavior towards employees.

Organic food giant Whole Foods opened a new “flagship” location on Trinity Place in the city’s Tenderloin area in March 2022, hoping to revive visitor numbers after two years of draconian COVID restrictions have severely impacted businesses in the area had.

But a spokesman for Whole Foods said the store was closed last night due to staff safety concerns.

“We are only closing our Trinity location for now,” the spokesman said in a statement. “If we feel we can ensure the safety of our team members in store, we will consider reopening our Trinity location.”

San Francisco Police Commissioner William Scott and San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins (R) at a news conference about the murder of Cash App founder Bob Lee.

The man accused of fatally assaulting Silicon Valley CEO Bob Lee will plead not guilty to the murder, his attorney said.

The indictment of suspect Nima Momeni in San Francisco state court was delayed Tuesday, but his attorney, Paula Canny, told reporters at the courthouse that camera footage used by prosecutors as evidence does not support a first-degree murder charge.

“I don’t think you can see anything in the videos,” she said.

San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins has asked the court not to grant bail and release Momeni, arguing the April 4 murder was “planned and intentional.”

Lee, 43, who was chief product officer at cryptocurrency startup MobileCoin and created the Cash App, was revered in the tech world for his programming talents. Prosecutors say he was stabbed to death with a kitchen knife on a downtown San Francisco street after meeting with friends, including Momeni’s sister.

Momeni appeared in court for the second time on Tuesday and his indictment was again postponed to May 2. Canny said she’s waiting for an autopsy report from the city coroner’s office. Jenkins said at a news conference that the report could take weeks to complete.

Canny told Bloombeg News she would resist the district attorney’s efforts to keep her client, a 38-year-old IT consultant, jailed pending his trial.

In a court filing in support of Momeni’s detention, prosecutors cited surveillance footage showing the men in Momeni’s car pulling out of his sister’s apartment building together and driving into a “dark and remote area.”

A color video segment cited in the filing then shows two men standing on a sidewalk for about five minutes – with the camera too far away to make out their faces – before one suddenly moves toward the other. The men then separate, one walking away injured and the other moving along a fence line where the knife was later recovered, according to the filing, which describes Momeni’s BMW speeding away from the scene.

Jenkins told reporters Tuesday that Canny was given DNA evidence from the bloodied knife. She declined to elaborate.

The district attorney said she believes Canny saw enough evidence for Momeni to file a plea deal. Jenkins expressed disappointment that the indictment was delayed, especially after many of Lee’s family members turned up for Tuesday’s hearing.

The body of a Florida woman who disappeared more than a week ago had been found in her septic tank – and her handyman was arrested for murder.

Police began searching for Cynthia Cole, 57, in the tank just hours after their handyman Keoki Hilo Demich was arrested Friday night.

After several hours of excavation, her body was discovered in the cesspool buried in her backyard on the 4500 block of NE Skyline Drive in Jensen Beach.

Demich, 34, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

Cole, who walked past Cyndi, has been missing for over a week and was last seen at a Jammin Jensen event on February 24.

Scroll down for videos

Cynthia Cole’s body, pictured, was found in the septic tank in her backyard on Friday night. Suspect Keoki Hilo Demich, Cole’s handyman who was arrested and charged in connection with her murder of Martin County Sheriff William Snyder, and investigators dig in Cynthia Cole’s backyard March 4-5, 2022, a week after the woman went missing was reported

Demich had been employed by Cole as a handyman for the last few years.

He was the only person investigators were suspicious of after she was reported missing.

“He made several statements that we know to be false, so he was charged with second-degree murder,” said Martin County Sheriff William Snyder.

Snyder added that ring cameras and security footage near Cole’s home shows Demich exiting Cole’s car near Demich’s home in Stuart on the same night Cole was last seen.

According to Snyder, there were several other instances in which Demich was caught on cameras near Cole’s vehicle.

Cole, who walked past Cyndi, has been missing for over a week and was last seen at a Jammin Jensen event on February 24. Cole, pictured, was likely murdered at her home before her body was placed in the septic tank, authorities said Cole had hired Demich to be her handyman in recent years

After several hours of digging, they finally pulled Cole’s body out of the septic tank early Saturday morning.

“I’ve been doing this for over 40 years. I’ve never seen anything like it,” Snyder said.

Meanwhile, Snyder said detectives are still gathering evidence, adding that Demich could face additional charges.

Evidence gathered so far suggests that Cole was likely murdered in her home before her body was placed in the septic tank.

The body has yet to be positively identified by the coroner’s office, but authorities say they have every reason to believe they discovered Cole’s body.
