MORGAN HILL (CBS SF) — A man was arrested Wednesday evening in connection with the kidnapping and assault of a handyman in unincorporated Santa Clara County from more than two weeks ago, a Santa Clara County sheriff’s sergeant said.

Richard Rodriguez Jr., 49, whose last known address was in Alameda, turned himself in to Alameda police around 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sgt. Jose Cardoza said.

Alameda police will bring Rodriguez to the Santa Clara County sheriff’s office within the next week, Cardoza said.

Rodriguez had an outstanding warrant on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and false imprisonment for his suspected involvement in a Dec. 3 incident where a handyman was forced to do repair work to homes against his will, Cardoza said.

Cardoza said Rodriguez aided two Morgan Hill residents, Jason DeJesus, 36, and Chanelle Troedson, 33, in forcing the 50-year-old repair man to work on the Morgan Hill suspects’ home in the 200 block of Caldwell Way.

On Dec. 3, San Jose police received a report of a kidnapping and assault at about 7 p.m. from the victim, who had managed to escape his captors at a San Jose gas station.

Police handed the investigation over to the sheriff’s office since the kidnapping occurred outside police jurisdiction, Cardoza said.

The victim told deputies he had initially performed handyman services for a relative of one of the suspects about two months ago, but was not paid in full for his work, resulting in a dispute for services rendered, Cardoza said.

The victim said the suspects lured him to their residence to do repair work just before 11 a.m., the sergeant said.

Upon arrival at the residence, the victim was assaulted, held against his will and threatened with his life for several hours, Cardoza said.

The victim was still at the residence on Caldwell Way at 5:30 p.m. when the suspects forced the victim into a truck.

The victim was told he would be made to finish the repair work that he began two months ago at the suspect’s relative’s house in Santa Clara.

On the way to the home, the suspects stopped at the Chevron gas station at the intersection of Santa Teresa Boulevard and Cottle Road in San Jose to purchase gas.

When the suspects exited the vehicle to purchase gas and food, the victim escaped on foot, disregarding a warning by the suspects to stay put, Cardoza said.

The victim ran to a nearby residence to report the incident, he said.

San Jose police responded to the area, located the DeJesus and Troedson near the gas station and arrested them on suspicion of false imprisonment, kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats and conspiracy.

MORGAN HILL (CBS 5) — Two people who live in a large Morgan Hill home have been arrested on suspicion of holding a handyman hostage and forcing him to do home repairs.

Investigators said the 50-year-old victim was lured to a home on 200 block of Caldwell Court Monday morning. The sprawling 4,600 square foot home has five bedrooms and is equipped with a pool, a beach volleyball court, and a tennis court.

“He was assaulted, he was threatened with his life, and he was forced to do some work at the house,” Sgt. Jose Cardoza of the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office told CBS 5.

Detectives said 36-year-old Jason DeJesus and 33-year-old Chanelle Troedson beat the handyman, threatened to kill him and forced him to fix several items in the house over a six-hour span. The repairs included a dishwasher and a broken door.

“The victim was pretty terrified. He was pretty shaken up and scared by this whole incident,” Cardoza said. “What he did tell investigators is that he was just trying to do what he was being told, wait for the opportunity to escape.”

On Monday night, authorities said the suspects forced the handyman into his truck. With one of the suspects driving, the victim was told they were traveling to a suspect’s relative’s house in Santa Clara to perform additional repairs.

They pulled over at a gas station on Santa Teresa Blvd. and Cottle Road in South San Jose. The handyman escaped when the suspects left to pay for gas and snacks. DeJesus and Troedson were arrested by police shortly after.

Other people who lived in the home declined to be interviewed by CBS 5.

Investigators said the handyman performed work for De Jesus’ mother two months ago.

“The work wasn’t performed to the likes of the suspect’s relative at the time, and on top of that there was dispute over services rendered, the victim wasn’t paid entirely. That kind of boiled over into what occurred last night,” Cardoza said.

DeJesus and Troedson face several felony charges including false imprisonment, kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats, and conspiracy.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call Sgt. Julian Quinonez or Detective Sgt. Dave Roberts at the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office at (408) 808-4500. Tips can also be left anonymously at (408) 808-4431.

(KTXL) — You may know nothing about architecture, yet there’s a good chance you’ve already appreciated the work of California’s first licensed female architect Julia Morgan.

Morgan’s 700 buildings not only represent the style of her time, they each have their own identity and design, which makes it hard to believe they all came from the mind of one person.

What is that pyramid-shaped building next to the Sacramento River?

Her client list included William Randolph Hearst, gold mine owners, the Youth Women’s Christian Association, and many more.

Early Life and Education

Courtesy of the Fairmont Hotel

Morgan was born on Jan. 20, 1872, in San Francisco, to a mother with deep family wealth and a father who had a number of failed business attempts.

In 1890, she graduated from Oakland High School and enrolled at the University of California, where she studied engineering due to the lack of an architecture program.

		Celebrities born in Sacramento

After graduating with her degree in engineering, her former professor, Bernard Maybeck, encouraged Morgan to attend École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.

Morgan was initially refused admission because the school had never admitted a woman before, but after waiting for two years, Morgan was admitted. She became the first woman to receive a certificate in architecture from the esteemed art school.

Beginning her Career and Early Projects

In 1904, after returning to San Francisco, Morgan opened her own office in the carriage house of her parents’ home and became the first woman to receive California’s State Architectural License.

One of her first projects was in 1904 when she was hired to design the El Campanil bell tower at Mills College in Oakland.

These Sacramento buildings and places are actually State Parks

Courtesy of Mill’s College at Northwestern University

The tower houses 10 bells that were cast in 1893 for the Columbian International Exposition in Chicago but sat without a home until the completion of the tower in 1904.

The tower survived the 1906 and 1989 earthquakes.

One of her other early works was the North Star House, just outside of Grass Valley, for North Star Mine owner James Hague.

John Wayne, pleasure cruises and fire: the story of the Spirit of Sacramento

Morgan began designing the 10,000-square-foot Frist Bay Tradition Arts and Craft style home between 1903 and 1904, and completed it in 1905.

The home is on the State and National Registers of Historic Places and has been undergoing a full restoration.

Rebuilding the Fairmont Hotel, a Turning Point

One of Morgan’s most significant undertakings in the early part of her career was rebuilding the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco following the 1906 earthquake.

According to California State Parks, Morgan was entrusted with resetting steel girders, replacing marble columns and reinforcing stairs. Within a year the hotel was reopened.

Courtesy of the Fairmont Hotel

With the completion of a bell tower, a large private home and rebuilding an iconic hotel, Morgan next took on building bungalow cottages in 1910 for the U.S. Immigration Station on Angel Island in San Francisco Bay.

The history hidden beneath 3 California lakes

Morgan was hired by her brother-in-law Hart H. North, Commissioner at the U.S. Immigration Station, to build the 12 bungalows that would house the family and staff that worked at the station.

All that remains of the cottages today are their concrete foundations after a fire burned them down in 1971 during a fire-training exercise during the filming of “The Candidate” with Robert Redford.

The Asilomar and the YWCA

One of Morgan’s largest projects was the design and construction of 17 Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) sites, including the massive Asilomar in Pacific Grove.

Courtesy of California State Parks

Her work at Asilomar would continue from 1913 to 1928, during which she designed Merrill Hall, a dining room, a chapel auditorium and lodges.

Asilomar became the nation’s first women’s summer camp and conference grounds owned by a woman’s organization, according to California State Parks.

Once again, this project is a great example of the Arts and Craft Style. All of the buildings are National Historic Landmarks.

As Morgan’s name became more widely known, her work began to expand beyond the Bay Area and Central Coast.

Fresno, Sacramento and the Julia Morgan House

In 1918, she would build the Julia Morgan House, which is the only example of her residential architecture in Sacramento.

She was commissioned by Lizzie Glide to build the home as a wedding gift to her daughter Mary Glide Goethe and her husband Charles Goethe.

After Charles Goethe died in 1966, the home was given to The Foundation at Sacramento State, which is known today as University Enterprises Inc.

What are some of Sacramento’s oldest buildings?

The home was constructed in a Mediterranean style and in 1999 underwent remodeling and restoration by UEI to “preserve its authenticity.”

Morgan then ventured down the Central Valley to Fresno in the early 1920s where she designed three more YWCA centers. A residence hall was built on M Street, a small bungalow and activities building in West Fresno and the Recreation Center on Tuolumne and L Streets.

A remodel in 1965 modernized the recreation center beyond the point of recognizing Morgan’s original designs.

A Monument to California’s Redwoods

During the early 1930s, Morgan’s talents were brought into the deep old-growth redwood forests of northern California.

The California Federation of Women’s Clubs hired Morgan in 1933 to design a memorial that symbolizes the club’s effort in purchasing a 106-acre old-growth redwood grove through the Save the Redwoods League. The grove protected more than 1,000 redwood trees.

California’s smallest Sequoia grove is hidden in Northern California

Morgan designed four stone fireplaces that share a central chimney called the Hearthstone.

Courtesy of California State Parks

“Oversized rocks, collected along the south fork of the Eel River, face all aspects of the structure,” California State Parks writes in their description of the structure. “Cut tree trunks support wood roofs that cover the open hearths. Stone bench inglenooks provide a resting place.”

Today that tree grove is apart of the Humboldt Redwoods State Park.

Hearst Castle and other projects of William Randolph Hearst

One of the most notorious clients of Morgan’s was the Hearst family, specifically William Randolph Hearst.

At the start of her career, before opening her own office, Morgan had been hired by the Hearst family for other projects.

In 1919, William Randolph Hearst would hire Morgan to design a main building and guest houses that would serve better than the raised tents at his San Simeon Ranch.

These are the oldest newspapers in California still in operation

This would be the first of many assignments that Morgan would carry out to create the 28-year project that has become known as Hearst Castle.

Morgan designed the majority of the structures and pools, including the Neptune pool and indoor Roman pool, grounds, animal shelters and workers’ camps.

The Roman pool at Hearst Castle, the legendary home built by publishing tycoon William Randolph Hearst in San Simeon, Calif. on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008. (AP Photo/Dan Steinberg)

She told Hearst that her commission needed to be 8.5 percent of architectural services, up from her usual 6 percent, as she was “running the job.”

Hearst employed Morgan for several other projects at properties he owned, including the Annenberg Community Beach House in Santa Monica.

Hearst purchased five acres of beachfront property for movie star Marion Davies in the 1920s and originally hired designer William Edward Flannery, but fired him after Flannery was having difficulties with the project.

The hidden winemaking region in California’s Sierra foothills

Morgan was brought on to finish the main home and then designed a pool and a 7,000-square-foot guest house with gardens.

When the home was finished in 1929 with its 110 rooms, 37 fireplaces and 55 bathrooms it was dubbed the “Versailles of Hollywood.”

Construction at Hearst Castle would cease in 1947 as Hearst’s finances became strained, and in 1951, at the age of 79, Morgan would retire in the Bay Area.

She eventually pass away on Feb. 2, 1957, at the age of 85.

A Legacy of Greatness

In 2014, 57 years after her death, Morgan was posthumously awarded a Gold Medal from the American Institute of Architects, the highest honor of the institute.

“At a time when there were few women in the professional world, when we weren’t even allowed to vote, Julia was a real trailblazer,” Senator Dianne Feinstein said in her speech to the AIA. “She is living proof that no matter the obstacles, no matter the status quo you can achieve greatness.”

So if you find yourself in the major cities of the Bay Area, a seaside town on the central coast, the Capital City or one of California’s ancient forests you could be looking at the artistry of one of California’s most prolific architects.

Suddenly Grace [Karen David] pulled up in a truck.

Final Season: Morgan Jones risked everything to return to King County, Georgia to kill and bury his zombie son, Duane, on Sunday’s episode of Fear The Walking Dead on AMC

‘How did you find me?’ Said Morgan.

“You asked me to come,” Grace said.

Morgan said no one knew he came here.

Mon [Zoey Merchant] She then emerged from the back of the truck she was hiding in and admitted she was the one who sent the SOS message, knowing full well that King County meant something to Morgan.

“Does this have anything to do with Jenny and Duane?” asked Mo.

Morgan said it was his wife and son and that he had come to bring his son to rest after leaving him chained in the attic of his home after being bitten.

Mo told them that Daniel helped her get away from Padre.

“Daniel is still alive?” Morgan said.

Zombie Son: Duane was locked in the attic by Morgan after being bitten. Family reunion: Grace [Karen David] and Mon [Zoey Merchant] Met Morgan at King County Old House: Morgan went to his old house in Georgia where he was living with his family when the zombie apocalypse broke out. Message sender: Mo admitted she was the one who sent the SOS message, knowing full well that King County meant something to Morgan

“He’s building an army to take Padre down,” Mo said. “We can help him with that.”

Morgan said he would do it, but first he had to kill Duane, who turned into a walker after his wife Jenny became infected and bit him.

“I left my boy to be one of them,” Morgan said.

A flare rose into the air and Dwight [Austin Amelio] and sherry [Christine Evangelista] approached on horseback and told Morgan they would take him back to Padre.

“Padre has your son and he’s using him against you,” Morgan said.

“He’s damn right about that,” said Sherry.

“You sold us seven years ago to save your child,” Dwight said. “We’re just getting revenge.”

Together again: Dwight [Austin Amelio] and sherry [Christine Evangelista] Morgan said they would take him back to Padre

Then, when Dwight saw Mo and Grace, he decided to help them escape instead.

Dwight told him that they were also followed by two guards that they had to take care of, but Morgan said he had to do something first. Morgan, Mo and Grace ran into an abandoned house and Morgan told Grace to get a gun that was up by the window.

“I’m not going anywhere until you tell me how you know where everything is in this house,” Grace said.

Morgan said he used to live in the house. As the walkers streamed outside, Grace told them they had to go. Morgan declined.

“I need to get my boy to rest,” Morgan said.

Dwight radioed from outside that they knew they were hiding inside the house. Morgan said he came back to bury his son.

“I’m sorry Morgan, but we have to think of our son, too,” Sherry said.

Dwight’s soldiers fired a flare into the air to lure more walkers to the house. Then Mo called Morgan upstairs and showed him that the walls of the room were covered in writing.

Feeding Frenzy: Walkers were outside in the midst of a feeding frenzy. Plans changed: when Dwight then saw Mo and Grace, he decided to help them escape instead

“I don’t remember ever coming back here after Duane died,” Morgan said.

Mo found Morgan’s family photo album and flipped through it while Morgan picked up a rifle Rick Grimes had given him.

“What have we been doing for the last seven years?” Grace said.

“We did what we felt was necessary,” Morgan said.

“I’m sorry we wasted all this time, Morgan,” Grace said.

Dwight told Morgan they had five minutes to surrender or they would send walkers to set them on fire.

“This is your second chance, dad,” said Mo.

“Rick, he gave you this gun for a reason,” Grace said. ‘Use it.’

Difficult Situation: Morgan struggled with Dwight and his commitment to his zombie son, Duane

Grace kissed Morgan.

“I’m so sorry we wasted so much time,” Grace said.

“Me too,” Morgan said.

Then Morgan opened the door and everyone started killing strays in their path. Then he saw his walker outside and froze. Dwight and Sherry rode up and said Padre needed to know why he was really there and insisted on going inside to see if Morgan was telling the truth.

A Padre soldier traveling with Dwight told them that Shrike wanted answers.

“If he doesn’t tell you why he’s there, kill him,” Shrike [Maya Eshet] said over the walkie-talkie.

Morgan grabbed the soldier’s gun and aimed it at his own head.

“Do it,” Morgan said.

Hard line: “If he doesn’t tell you why he’s there, kill him”, Shrike [Maya Eshet] said over the walkie-talkie

Dwight and Sherry intervened and knocked out the Padre soldiers. Grace hugged Morgan.

“You shouldn’t have done that,” Morgan said.

“I’m not just going to stand here and watch you get killed in cold blood, Morgan,” Dwight said.

Morgan said that Padre would kill her son.

“Not if we have anything to do with it,” Dwight said.

Shrike called for them to answer and Dwight answered. Shrike demanded to speak to her soldier named Oriole.

“You can talk to him after I talk to my son,” Dwight said.

Then Shrike put the microphone in front of Finch [Gavin Warren]. Dwight asked him how he was feeling.

“I think the treatment worked,” Finch said.

Dwight told him to do the chimney sweep he taught him in class. Finch knocked Shrike unconscious. Dwight informed Finch that there was a morning supply boat that would be leaving the Padre compound in 20 minutes and that he should sneak aboard and that he would meet him on the mainland.

Chimney Sweep: Dwight told him to do the chimney sweep he taught him in class and Finch knocked Shrike unconscious

“Look Morgan, whatever happened here, all I know is that you have a chance to change things for Mo,” Dwight said.

Morgan radioed Mo and she told him that one of the torches had set her house on fire.

“Listen baby, I’m coming for you,” Morgan said.

Morgan killed the walkers in front of the burning house and then told Mo to go to the attic. Mo heard a walker in the attic and saw a chained boy walking. Mo then fell through the floor and was trapped. Morgan climbed the stairs and saw that his son, now a zombie, was trying to attack Mo. Morgan pulled the trigger and killed Duane.

Morgan buried him the next day. Morgan then told Grace to help Madison and Daniel take over Padre.

“We reunite every child that still has a parent,” Morgan said. “We do what we say, we’ll spend as much time together as we can.”

Mo took Morgan’s charred family photo album and told him he needed something to remember his family from when they were normal. Suddenly, a walker jumped out of the ashes and grabbed Mo. Grace and Morgan jump in and kill the walker, but Grace is bitten during the fight.

Meanwhile, Sherry and Dwight waited for Finch to appear ashore. When he did, they hugged him. Morgan then pulled up in a truck and killed two Padre soldiers.

Complete determination: Morgan was determined to bury his son. Headshot: A walker was killed by Morgan with a sharp blow to the head. Familiar Territory: Morgan was back in King County, where the story of Rick Grimes in the original series The Walking Dead began

“I need your help with Grace,” Morgan said. “She was bitten. The treatment June used on your boy. It works?’

Sherry said that was the case. They all boarded a transport boat to take Grace to June. Morgan told Grace to hold on.

“Wait a minute, June will be fine,” Morgan said to Grace.

“You don’t know,” Grace said.

“No matter what, we have to live,” Morgan said.

Fear The Walking Dead will return on AMC next Sunday.

Hammond, Jr. on March 13, 2023, as the sun shone through the rain on the home he had proudly built.
As we reflect on what was enough for Joe – the crisp air and quiet solitude of the early morning, a defiant puff on a cheap cigar, a dusty ride on a tractor, the roaring laughter of friends and family after a well-timed joke, and his wife Diane’s bright, adoring smile – life’s simple moments feel so much more meaningful.
Joe was born in 1940 in Millbrae, California, where he was raised by his parents, Joseph C. Hammond Sr. and Charlotte A. Hammond, who preceded him in death. He was a beloved husband to his wife Diane and a cherished father to his five children, Larry, who preceded him in death, Lori (Wayne), Mark (Carolina), Michael (Mary) and Michelle. He was an admired grandfather to eight grandchildren, Alisha, Amanda, Cory, Grace, Joe, Kevin, Mark, and Ren, and ten great-grandchildren, Alaria, Brielle, Carter, Cash, Gabriel, Jaden, Kade, McKoy, Memphys, and Noah. He will be remembered by his brother Robert (Bob) Hammond (Linda) from Morgan Hill, sister Margaret Larson from Aptos and many special nephews, nieces and cousins.
Joe worked hard and laughed even more. His father often said that Joe should have been a standup comedian, but Joe enjoyed his various endeavors in life. He began his career as a landscape installer, contributing to the fountain at the San Jose Performing Arts Center and the plumbing at the Oakland Coliseum and the Trans America Building in San Francisco. In 1976 he left that behind and took over his father’s business, Hale Lumber, with his brother Bob and settled his family in the then small town of Morgan Hill. Later, after retiring from the lumberyard, he and some dear friends pursued his dream of building homes in California and Idaho. During his 47 years at Morgan Hill, he became a pivotal member of the community, forged many children’s cancer organizations in memory of his and Diane’s son Larry, and built a reputation for being the go-to person to get things done. He was a friend to many.
We, his family, his “coffee club,” and his friends will long remember his eccentricities—his no-frills sense of style and boisterous sense of humor—but we will remember the magnanimous acts of kindness by which he demonstrated his greatness , forever cherish love and appreciation for all those who made his life healed. He was a constant source of laughter and support which was a much appreciated gift during this difficult time. Memories of him cause his family to shed more tears of laughter than sadness, making our farewell to our beautiful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather (Bapa Duck) and friend Joe very bittersweet.
At Joe’s request, the family service will be private. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice or simply remember him in your own special way.

MORGAN COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — A Morgan County woman’s dream quickly turned into a nightmare after giving over $44,000 to a home repairman who she trusted with the job.

Kimberly Lang says Johnny Ray Jordan and his company, J&J Construction, took her money and never return to do the job but he’s no stranger to this type of scam. He was arrested and served time in jail for home fraud back in 2020.

Decatur City Schools move to virtual learning

“I want to see him in jail,” Lang told News 19. “And I want to see him not be able to do this to no one else.”

Lang says that Jordan and J&J Construction stole their money by never coming back to finish the job that they hired him to do back in October. She is disabled and needed a ramp deck along with other home repairs. She gave a down payment to J&J, or at least she thought it was J&J according to his website. He never returned to finish the work.

“It is so easy for him to go get licensed under different business names,” Lang continued. “He’s done that and he has a history of this. He needs to be to a stop. He needs to be stopped.”

Several people have come forward in the past week to complain about being scammed by Jordan. Jen Chevallier and her husband of Huntsville handed J&J $18,000 dollars of their money. They found out who he was but not before he destroyed their home.

Men accused of Valhermoso Springs septuple homicide in court Monday

“We told Johnny Jordan that we have an attorney and we will utilize that attorney if he didn’t give us a portion of the money back,” said Jen Chevallier. Jordan returned 12,000 dollars of their money.

“We believe it would have been much worse had we not taken the action that we did,” Chevallier stated.

But Kimberly Lang wasn’t so fortunate.

“I can follow a complaint in small claims, but I cannot have him arrested for what he did,” Lang concluded. “As far as seeing my money is small claims that is very slim.”

News 19 checked the license number on one of the J&J invoices with the Alabama Home Builder’s Association and they say that number they say is invalid. Johnny Ray Jordan has had multiple arrest warrants issued in the past 30 years for fraud.

MORGAN HILL (CBS 5) – Two people who live in a large house in Morgan Hill were arrested on suspicion of holding a workman hostage and forcing him to do repairs.

Investigators said the 50-year-old victim was lured into a house on the 200 block of Caldwell Court Monday morning. The spacious 4,600 square meter house has five bedrooms and is equipped with a pool, a beach volleyball court and a tennis court.

CONTINUE READING: Despite the short-term decline in vaccine supply, state officials predict a full reopening by the summer

“He was attacked, his life was threatened, and he was forced to work the house,” Sgt. Jose Cardoza of the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office told CBS 5.

Detectives said 36-year-old Jason DeJesus and 33-year-old Chanelle Troedson beat the repairman, threatened to kill him, and forced him to fix several items around the house within six hours. The repairs included a dishwasher and a broken door.

“The victim was pretty scared. He was pretty shaken and scared of this whole incident, ”said Cardoza. “What he told investigators is that he was just trying to do what he was told and waiting for the opportunity to escape.”

On Monday evening, authorities said the suspects had forced the handyman into his truck. As one of the suspects drove, the victim was told they would be traveling to a suspect’s relative’s home in Santa Clara for additional repairs.

They stopped at a gas station on Santa Teresa Blvd. and Cottle Road in South San Jose. The handyman escaped when the suspects left to pay for gasoline and snacks. DeJesus and Troedson were arrested by police shortly afterwards.
