August 30, 2022 – MLS NEXT Pro (MLS NEXT Pro) – Earthquakes II News Release

Cruz Medina of Earthquakes II
(Earthquakes II)
SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Earthquakes announced today that the Earthquakes II match against Real Monarchs on Friday, Sept. 9, originally scheduled to be played at PayPal Park, will now take place at Negoesco Stadium on the campus of the University of San Francisco. The match, which kicks off at 6 pm, will be hosted in partnership with San Francisco Glens Soccer Club and livestreamed on MLSNEXTPro.com.

Earthquakes Season Ticket Holders can contact their account service representative for $10 tickets to the match.

Quakes II, the Earthquakes’ second team, competes in MLS NEXT Pro. The league is in its inaugural season and has 21 teams, 20 of which are affiliated with teams in Major League Soccer. Rosters are comprised of professional players on first team (MLS) or MLS NEXT Pro contracts, and amateur youth academy players (MLS NEXT).

“We’re really excited to be hosting a Quakes II match for our fans in San Francisco,” said Earthquakes General Manager Chris Leitch. “This event is a testament to our partnership with the San Francisco Glens and our roster proudly features former Glens players.”

Earthquakes II is currently in fifth place in the 11-team Western Conference, just six points outside of the top-four playoff positions. Quakes II has three matches remaining during the 2022 regular season, and the Sept. 9 contest in San Francisco will serve as the team’s final home match and penultimate match overall.

“We’re looking forward to host Quakes II in San Francisco as our clubs continue to grow our ongoing partnership,” said SF Glens Executive Director Mike McNeill. “To be able to bring pro soccer back to San Francisco for one night in conjunction with USF will be a special event that the local soccer community won’t want to miss.”

“I’m thrilled to see the Earthquakes return to San Francisco after all these years,” said Glens Technical Director Jimmy Conrad, who was on the last Earthquakes team to play at Negoesco in 2001 for the US Open Cup quarterfinals. “It’s going to be an incredible opportunity for the fans here in The City to connect to the club and, my favorite part, it’s going to allow us to see some future first-team stars play right in our backyard.”

ATLANTA (AP) – Georgia’s Foreign Minister continues a study of the effectiveness of the signature verification process the state has been using for postal votes until it is replaced by new identification requirements this year.

In the weeks following the November election, then-President Donald Trump and his allies claimed without evidence that the election had been stolen from him. He fixated on several states including Georgia, where he lost by less than 12,000 votes. Among other things, he called for a check of the signature matches, which are used to confirm the identity of a person entitled to vote.

Kieran Maguire believes Leeds United will draw on the experience of the San Francisco 49ers to develop Elland Road into a 55,000-seat source of income.

The whites have seen plans to expand their stadium approved by Leeds City Council after the club abandoned existing plans for Fullerton Park.

If Leeds United will cover the planning costs for the relocation of the current Parklife plans to the former Matthew Murray High School site, Leeds City Council will be involved in the new development.

The club had agreed plans to build new training facilities on the former school grounds in south Leeds, but upgrading Elland Road has a higher priority.

Football finance expert Maguire believes Leeds will continue to seek to narrow the gap between the Premier League’s biggest clubs’ revenue from their stadiums with the knowledge of their 37% American investors.

“It definitely has the ability to make the asset work up a sweat, especially when development can sell quality seats,” Maguire told Football Insider.

“If you rent out your site for concerts, the organizer pays a fixed amount.

“The higher quality the stadium, the more the organizer is willing to pay.

“I think Leeds will try to use the expertise of the San Francisco 49ers to expand the scope.

“They want to close the gap between their stadium revenues and the clubs that are currently benefiting from the Champions League.

“This ambitious development is one way to achieve this.”
