Neighbors said that they have seen the posters up for around two weeks

The owner of an $11million San Francisco mansion hung up posters on their property offering a $10,000 reward for a trespasser who was caught ‘jumping the gate.’

The single-family home built in 1853 is situated on a private lot in Russian Hill, a neighborhood of San Francisco.

Laminated posters were seen along the property’s large white fence and next to the house number with a picture of the unknown intruder.

The poster also displayed text that said: ‘Have you seen this person? Call 911 if you see him or ANYONE jumping the gate or fence.’

‘Man, I want to bring him the guy. I could use $10,000,’ Arthur Vela Boas, a resident of Russian Hill told The San Francisco Standard.

The owner of an $11 million San Francisco mansion has erected this poster appealing for information about a man seen jumping the property’s gate

It went on to say that the hefty reward would be gifted to someone ‘for successful arrest or prosecution.’

DailyMail.com attempted to locate the current owner of the house and contacted neighbors for further information, but it is unclear who the resident is.

Neighbors said that they have seen the posters displayed for approximately two weeks, but don’t think that they are meant to actually catch the suspect.

Daniel Detorie, a neighbor who has lived on the same block as the mansion for 32 years said: ‘I think it’s just to scare him away.’

The 3,890 square foot mansion with four bedrooms and four and a half bathrooms was first listed at $12million in 2019 but was then brought down to $11million.

It was originally built by Joseph H. Atkinson and is a registered San Francisco Historic Landmark, known as the Atkinson-Escher House.

The breathtaking mansion is pictured center frame. It sits on one of the city’s famed steep hills The Atkinson-Escher House was built in 1853 by Joseph H. Atkinson and is a registered San Francisco Historic Landmark

According to the Pacific Coast Architecture Database, the house was known as a meeting place for occult seances- paranormal spirit activity- and local high society.

Though it looks as though the owner was trying to pinpoint a specific person, neighbors have said they have a hard time making out the pictures on the poster.

‘The photo’s really bad. You can’t recognize the guy,’ Vela Boas said.

The home itself has been updated with an elevator, a two-car garage and excellent views of the Bay Area as its located near North Beach and Nob Hill, California.

Homes in Russian Hill have averaged at $1,452,925, according to Zillow.

In recent times, San Francisco has been known as one of the county’s most crime-ridden cities and has been filled with excessive drug use and homelessness.

Residents have to pick their way through streets full of unconscious and semi-conscious people in the Tenderloin district of the city as drug and homelessness rates have soared

The city’s overdose deaths soared in August with an additional 84 deaths, 66 involving fentanyl, the deadliest month since 2021.

Many businesses have also shut down in the area due to the unsafe nature of the city and high living costs.

Photos of an IKEA store that opened its doors in August revealed the now deserted business, as customers said that persistent construction, lack of parking and constant crime has kept them from shopping there.

RAWLINS — On any given day, you’ll find Kay-Marie Wilder rummaging through one drawer or another, “MacGyvering” up a fix for her historic Ferris Mansion.

Wilder comes by her MacGyver genes honestly. She was a teenager when her parents Janice and David Lubbers bought the Rawlins and Wyoming landmark Ferris Mansion in 1979, and she got to use all of her do-it-yourself fix-it genes as they worked to save the historic home from ruin.

The Lubbers have readily admitted they had no real idea the true magnitude of the task they were taking on when they bought the aging mansion at 607 W. Maple St.

They thought the renovation work would take a couple of years, tops. Instead, it took 25 years of steady work to fully return the house to its former 1903 hardwood-and-lace glory.

“The gentleman who owned it before us was kind of an absentee landlord,” Wilder told Cowboy State Daily. “So, things were not taken care of. You could have as many pets as you wanted, it was just horrific. There was like a mattress in the Rose Room, and I don’t know what happened there. Stuff was just stuck to the walls and there was fecal matter from dogs, too.”

There was also a great deal of medical equipment strewn about. A doctor had inhabited one of the spaces at one time, so there was truly no telling what one might find lying about.

Wilder recalls her parents tearing out all the carpet first thing and using a scoop shovel to toss truckloads of debris and rubbish out of the mansion to make it a habitable living space.

The mansion had been subdivided into apartments sometime in the 1940s, so it had lots of walls that needed to be torn out and kitchens in the strangest of places. It didn’t take long for Janice to realize the couple needed help if they were going to finish the renovation within their lifetimes.

So she called her sister, Phyllis Lenz, and talked her into coming and helping with all the work.

“She says, ‘Well, I’ll move out for a couple of years,’” Wilder said, smiling at the memory. “She was here for 36 years. Those ladies worked great together and my dad, MacGyver, could do anything — electrician, plumber, mechanic. So he wasn’t the type to be daunted by the task of buying this place and fixing it up.”

No Relation To The Ferris Wheel

The Ferris Mansion in Rawlins is both a sad and an inspiring tale all wrapped into one.

George Ferris had for his whole life pursued great wealth. On the very day he achieved it by selling the Ferris-Hagerty mine for $1 million, he was killed while riding in a runaway stagecoach. The accident happenedon the aptly named Snow Slide Hill on his way home from the mine in Encampment.

Newspaper accounts of the time say that his stagecoach was passing an area where a team of horses had been killed by an avalanche the prior year and the stench of the dead bodies terrified the stagecoach’s team of horses. Ferris was in the stagecoach with a brother, who escaped unharmed. But Ferris was tossed and hit a brake block and brake beam on the wagon as it was overturning.

“There is something singularly pathetic in the death of Mr. Ferris, and it furnishes a theme for the moralists who like to discourse on the vanity of life and the rewards that often come from a life of toil too late to be enjoyed,” a newspaper obituary at the time read. “Having spent all his years seeking wealth, Mr. Ferris finally attained it in a way that has made his name famous all over the land, only to have the reward snatched from his hands on the very day of his triumph.”

If his death had been pathetic, what came next could certainly be considered inspiring.

His wife Julia announced that she would complete construction of the Ferris Mansion, a Barber and Klutz home likely sourced from the book “Modern Dwellings,” which was published in 1888.

Barber was serving a nouveau riche clientele who had made fortunes out West and wanted homes that made a statement, not only about their success, but about the success of the West.

The cost for Julia to complete the spacious 21-room, three-story home with 65 windows and five fireplaces was in the neighborhood of $60,000 in 1900 dollars, plus an additional $25,000 for the furnishings, which she sourced from San Francisco. A glass chandelier in the home itself cost $1,000.

Colorado-pressed brick custom-designed for the home was used to form the home’s 18-inch-thick walls, which had an air space in the middle. Local sandstone was used to trim between the bricks, as well as the granite base of the home.

The roof tiles were interlocking ceramic Ludiwici tiles with a lifespan of 100 to 300 years.

8,000 Square Feet Of Catastrophe

Restoring the home to that level of grandeur was a daunting task. Picture 8,000 square feet of mansion turned into a maze of apartments lined with tired, moldy carpets and debris, peeling paint, rotting windowsills and the occasional gaping hole for good measure.

Once the overall mess has been carted out, though, the task had only just begun.

There were hundreds of hours of work in just sanding and polishing all the beautiful woodwork in the home, most of which had been hidden behind layers of ugly and peeling paint.

All that effort proved worthwhile, though. Behind the peeling paint, the Lubbers discovered 8-foot-tall pocket doors that were made of one of the rarest woods in the world, birdseye maple. It’s a distinctive pattern found in just 1% of all maple wood.

A fair amount of sleuthing also was required to restore the home.

Janice subscribed to magazines and did research in the library to figure out what should be there that wasn’t. She also tracked down the location of the mansion’s original grand staircase in Encampment and bought it back. Its original newel was still intact, though the spindles were not. So, she bought replacements — 150 of them.

Old Paint For New

The couple also took off the bright red paint on the home and replaced it with a rose hue, more in keeping with what had been there when the Queen Anne-style Barber home was built.

There were lots of “MacGyver” situations in the process of doing all that work, and Wilder is proud to show a few of them off.

In the dining area, for example, some friends were dancing on the hardwood floor and their heels caused a few scuff marks and indentions. Not to worry. Janice stenciled over all of that quite nicely. It’s not noticeable at all now.

Then there was the light fixture at the base of the stairs, original to the home, that was missing one white pane. There was no affordable way to source a single white pane of glass like that from the turn of the century. So Janice took a knife to a white plastic milk jug, carefully cutting out a replacement piece that is all but indistinguishable from the others, unless pointed out.

Similarly, when the family was given a quote of $15,000 to create curved storm windows, the Lubbers figured out how to fashion their own from heavy sheet plastic for $200.

The restoration process was not all smooth sailing, of course. One winter, a below-average cold freeze caused one of the mansion’s pipes to burst. Hundreds of gallons of water flooded out all over the beautiful work they’d done in that area, peeling plaster from the walls and leaving a disaster in its wake.

“Water just poured down and the ceiling caved in,” Wilder said. “It was just awful.”

No problem. Janice and Lenz had recently salvaged some tin ceiling tiles from a downtown bar in Rawlins. They had already been working on restoring them to put somewhere. They would be perfect in the kitchen.

Once the damage had been repaired and the ceiling tiles were all in place, everything seemed to fit right in as if it had always been that way.

As a result of the flood, a secret butler’s door also was discovered. That made for much better traffic patterns through the home, which the couple turned into a bed and breakfast for several years and helped pay for the continued work on the beautiful old home.

Ghosts Galore

Tell anyone in Rawlins that you’re staying at the Ferris mansion and likely you’ll see eyes get round as quarters.

“Which room are you staying in?” is the inevitable question. “Is it … the round room? Driving past the house at night, I think I’ve seen a small child in the window of the round room.”

That small child is supposed to be Cecil Ferris, killed in a shooting accident by one of his brothers who was playing with a gun that an older brother had brought home and put down on a bedroom table.

Cecil happened to be passing through the door of the bedroom as his brothers were playing with the gun. The shot hit him in the neck, severing an artery and killing him instantly.

But the ghost that Janice reported seeing in a newspaper article was that of Julia herself.

The experience, Wilder said, was a disquieting one at the time. But since the home’s restoration, all the “energy” has transformed in the house.

Some guests have reported seeing a woman in white standing over their bed, but this reporter experienced no hauntings while in the mansion.

While the bed and breakfast Wilder’s parents started is no longer operating, Wilder has continued to offer a fabulous stay at the Ferris Mansion through Airbnb. She has three rooms for short-term stays, the Blue Room, The Rose Room and the Gold Room. Each has its own private bath, and a couple of the rooms also feature beautiful fireplaces.

Wilder plans to sell the now regal historic Ferris Mansion as she has young grandchildren in Utah. It is for sale by owner for $750,000. It sits in a secluded neighborhood of Rawlins, where deer commonly visit to nibble on the grass.

The mansion is a grand old lady and an iconic piece of Wyoming’s history.

After a husband-and-wife duo purchased their historic home in San Francisco’s prestigious Presidio Terrace neighborhood in 2013, they embarked on a years-long rebuild and renovation. The Edwardian-style mansion was built in 1910 by renowned Bay Area architect Julius Kraft, who designed many notable residences throughout the city.

Now listed for $17.9 million, the home represents the area’s unique design history paired with the modern vision of the sellers, Gretchen Hansen, the founder of online design services brand Decorist, which she sold to Bed, Bath & Beyond in 2017, and her husband, FinTech CFO Lee Hansen.

					The entry foyer.

									Brian Kitts

The down-to-the-studs renovation included a four-foot excavation of the lower level, which allowed the owners to raise the home’s ceiling heights to enhance the elegant proportions. The dramatic restoration also included a new foundation, replacing the plumbing, electric, and fire sprinkler systems on all levels, and the installation of radiant heating, integrated security cameras, and built-in Sonos speakers throughout.

From the outside, the century-old mansion is stately and sober, with ornate decorative details and airy patio spaces, and, given the homeowner’s design prowess, it’s no surprise that the home boasts impeccably designed interior spaces. The bright rooms throughout the four-floor home feature clean lines, a neutral color palette, sumptuous textures, and plenty of warm, natural materials.

The fireside living room is filled with light thanks to its large windows.

									Brian Kitts

The 9,504-square-foot home is an urban sanctuary with towering trees and lush landscaping on all sides to make it feel even more private, while massive windows let in plenty of natural light, making the home feel even larger. There are seven bedrooms, seven bathrooms, and two powder rooms, as well as voluminous entertainment spaces with soaring ceilings.

From the breezy covered front porch, you enter through the home’s front door into the foyer, a welcoming reception area that seamlessly flows through high, arched doors into the light-filled living room and the spacious dining room that can comfortably host large groups.

The formal living room, overlooking the tree-lined street and the home’s front garden, has a bright, modern design with ample seating and a fireplace, and the dining room connects to the library. Wrapped in floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, the library also features a double-sided fireplace, a skylight, and French doors to a balcony overlooking the backyard, a rarity in San Francisco.

Nearby is the modern, open-concept kitchen with a clean-looking aesthetic that features custom cabinets, chef-approved appliances, a butler’s pantry, a large eat-in island, built-in banquet seating, and a casual sitting area. The kitchen is nearly wrapped in windows that fill the space with natural light.

The formal dining room with comfortably sit a dozen people.

									Brian Kitts

A beautiful custom staircase with a steel handrail leads you from the foyer and extends to all four floors. There’s also a new elevator that makes stops on each floor. The entire second floor houses the primary bedroom. The luxe corner suite has both south- and west-facing views, a fireplace, a lounge area, and a spa-like ensuite bathroom with a soaking tub. There’s also a private balcony with seating and a hot tub with incredible city views. Dual offices on the second floor can be converted into additional bedrooms, and three additional bedrooms and baths, along with a children’s lounge, are found on the third level.

Though many basements can be dark, dank afterthoughts, the basement excavation allowed the owners to transform the lower level into the wellness retreat of their dreams, complete with a large gym, dual steam baths, and a sauna room. Also nipped downstairs are a glass-enclosed wine cellar, a media and recreation room, a laundry room, and access to the two-car garage.

The backyard includes a small putting green.

The lower level connects to the gardens through French doors. The outdoor area has bamboo hedges for added privacy, a brick patio for alfresco dining, and a turf lawn with a putting green. The property also features a long, private driveway.

Long popular with politicians—House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Sen. Diane Feinstein, and former San Francisco Mayor Joseph Alioto have all lived among the 36 multi-million-dollar homes that make up the exclusive enclave—Presidio Terrace is impeccably maintained with beautiful landscaping. The tiny neighborhood is gated and private, though the gates are rarely closed, and maintains private security.

Built by renowned architect Julia Morgan, a 106-year-old San Francisco Tudor-style mansion with views of the bay has just hit the market for $36 million.

“There is no home like it, anywhere in the San Francisco Bay Area,” according to the property listing. “Every square inch has been thoughtfully planned, and artfully constructed. The unrivaled attention to every detail is a testament to the extraordinary investment of time and talent that the current owners have poured into their stately home. The symmetry and balance the current owners have achieved is as unfathomable, as it is profound..”

Sitting on an unusually large quarter-acre lot in Presidio Heights, the home — 20 rooms in all — was designed in 1916 by Morgan, the pioneering female architect who is best known for her work on Hearst Castle in San Simeon, California.

More recently, architect John Maniscalco led an incredible renovation that cost $10 million, according to Compass real estate firm. Original details, such as moldings, remain.

Karl Peterson, a venture capitalist and co-founder of Hotwire.com, and his wife Holly Peterson bought the nearly 12,000 square-foot residence for $16.65 million in 2007, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Other highlights of the eight-bedroom estate include:

Unfortunately, the young woman fell in love with Sharpe’s friend and private secretary instead.

But Whitehall’s recent owners are now hoping to win over the American people — and perhaps enlist Uncle Sam’s help to keep it running.

Long overshadowed by its larger and more accessible cousins like Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, Whitehall could become a major attraction in the proposed Chesapeake National Recreation Area, according to lawmakers and others promoting federal designation.

The Annapolis location would provide visitors with a home base from which to explore the Bay’s paradoxical history as the birthplace of American democracy and slavery. The National Register of Historic Places also lists it as “an important milestone in American architectural history” because of the scope and quality of a classic design that predates Monticello. The bill would allow the National Park Service to acquire or partner with Whitehall and other designated sites in the bay.

The idea of turning Whitehall into a national travel destination is also blessed by a key figure: Charlie Scarlett, one of the last people to live there.

Scarlett said he remembered family dinners on the grand portico overlooking the bay, learning to swim with a piece of two-by-four for a buoy, raising a pet red fox and living with a portrait of Edgar Allan Poe in front of his bedroom.

“This is my home,” he said recently during a tour. “And I love everything about it.”

His late father, Charles E. Scarlett Jr., a Baltimore shipping executive with a fondness for history, purchased Whitehall in 1946 and spent more than a decade restoring the building to its original design, right down to the hand-painted wallpaper that cuts out China were imported . He lived with his wife in Whitehall until her death.

Charlie Scarlett, who runs the family-run Brandywine Foundation, which owns the property, is taking steps to open Whitehall to the public. Part of his motivation is practical: He said the nonprofit is struggling with the huge costs of maintaining a nearly 260-year-old building.

But Scarlett, 70, a business executive who lives in St. Louis, said he also believes Whitehall’s historical significance should make it more accessible to all Americans, including the many descendants of enslaved people who lived and worked there.

If Congress incorporates the bay into the national park system, Scarlett envisions Whitehall becoming a national attraction modeled after the nonprofit Mount Vernon or managed by the National Park Service within a network of landmarks, such as those at Golden Gate National Recreation Area in San Francisco.

Scarlett has even considered allowing Brandywine to sell his former home to the federal government. The foundation’s most recent publicly available income tax form values the property at $7.8 million.

“You know, if you’d asked me ten years ago, I would have said, ‘Damn, no.’ But that was 10 years ago,” Scarlett said. Just repairing the mansion’s leaking roof, which has caused significant water damage, is costing nearly $1 million, he said.

Janice Hayes-Williams, who lives in Severn, Maryland and traces her family back to Whitehall’s enslaved Africans and slaveholders, said the historic site is an asset to the country in helping people learn about the enduring effects of slavery to clear up. She said her late father dreamed of the day when he and other descendants of the enslaved residents could walk the halls.

“He’d say, ‘Baby, whatever you’re doing, go in there because your ancestors built this,'” recalls Hayes-Williams. He never got the chance, but when Hayes-Williams visited her during an open house about five years ago, she cried. “The slaves are my family members,” she thought.

Unlike Jefferson and others, whose homes have become national shrines, Sharpe was a British Loyalist. He was born in Yorkshire to a large, prominent family whose connections probably played a role in his appointment as governor by Lord Baltimore, according to an article in the 1937 journal of the Maryland Historical Society.

Sharpe had also been commissioned as a captain in the Royal Marines and had risen to the rank of lieutenant colonel with an infantry dispatched to the West Indies – an experience that made him a wise decision to lead the colony on the eve of the French and Indian War. According to Lady Matilda Ridout Edgar’s 1912 book A Colonial Governor In Maryland, he was 35 when he sailed from England, accompanied by his private secretary, the Oxford-educated John Ridout.

Legend has it that Sharpe began building Whitehall in late 1764 to impress Mary Ogle, daughter of a previous governor, according to a 1951 article by Charles Scarlett Jr. She fell in love with the younger Ridout, who eventually married her married.

Col. Sharpe, as he was known, commissioned the finest architects to build Whitehall and oversaw its construction, using enslaved Africans and indentured European labourers, including a skilled woodcarver who died of tuberculosis before he could gain his freedom .

The building drew on the design of the influential Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio, whose clean, simplified Neoclassical Roman and Greek style – characterized by columns, domes, and pediments – became popular in London in the mid-18th century, according to a 1974 report became National Registry. The Palladian style also influenced Monticello, the James Semple House in Williamsburg, and other colonial homes.

Whitehall was one of only two pre-Revolutionary homes in the United States to feature a “full temple portico” with massive white cedar Corinthian columns, the 1974 report said. (The other was Roger Morris’ 1765 mansion on the Harlem River .) The spacious interior was also “extraordinarily rich” with elaborate woodcarvings, including satyr-like faces in each corner of the central salon, meant to represent the four winds. A phoenix looks down from the top of the great square hall.

He entrusted Ridout with his beloved villa, sometimes sending back cuttings for the vineyards, or often writing to inquire of affairs there, wrote Lady Ridout. In a letter, Sharpe granted Ridout the freedom to sell enslaved laborers if it was economically necessary to do so, instructing that they would only go to buyers “You are sure you will treat them with humanity.”

The property changed hands several times thereafter, including in the early 20th century when a buyer considered offering it to the President as a White House summer home. When the Scarlett family bought Whitehall the property was in poor condition.

For a rental of $19,000, up to 12 weddings are hosted annually. Part of it is shared with a wedding planner who takes care of the rest of the arrangements. Other income comes from housing horses ($500 per head per month) and renting out a small 17th-century cottage ($500 per night on weekends). But it’s nowhere near enough to cover capital expenditures and needs, such as roof repairs.

Visitors would likely board at the Burtis House, a former Aquarius home that is also expected to be a focal point in the proposed national recreation area. (Others include the Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse and the North Beach of Fort Monroe in Virginia, where ships delivered enslaved Africans in 1619, as key attractions anchoring the new park.)

Today, following a three-year hiatus, the Kips Bay Decorator Show House New York is back—and this year’s 22 participating designers and architects have contrived five floors of compelling interiors that were well worth the wait.

Through June 6, the historic River Mansion, a beaux arts town house overlooking Riverside Park and the Hudson River on the Upper West Side, will be open to the public to tour some 10,000 square feet of newly reimagined interiors. Inside, design pros share the creative musings and experimental ideas exciting them right now—from a shell grotto-esque retreat to a rococo candyland. It’s all in an effort to raise funds for the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club and its enrichment programs, for which the show house has raised more than $28 million to date.

The New Taste: Join AD Experts at the Kitchen Workshop

The Robert D. Kohn–designed River Mansion is no stranger to AD. The town house (lensed by Peter Vitale) was featured in the magazine’s November 1987 issue following a renovation by interior designer David Laurence that involved establishing the central staircase and opening walls to create more free-flowing rooms, among other modern upgrades. While the residence has evolved since glossing the pages of AD, there’s one point in the story that still holds true: “The house sits on what must be one of the most agreeable sites on the entire island…. Not twenty yards away, a leafy park flourishes from spring through fall,” wrote Michael M. Thomas. As of last week, the property is available for sale through Douglas Elliman, ready for its next chapter.

And a good-looking one at that. Below, see every room inside the 48th edition of the Kips Bay Decorator Show House New York (337 Riverside Drive at West 106th Street), made possible by 2023 sponsors Benjamin Moore, Calico Wallpaper, Cosentino, Dea Luxury Linens, Dedar, JennAir, Kohler, Kravet, Marc Phillips, Morgan Stanley, Morris & Co., New York Design Center, Peacock Alley, Sanderson, Soane Britain, Susan’s Jewelry, the Rug Company, and the Shade Store.

Landscaping by Janice Parker Landscape Architects

Not wanting to distract from the beaux arts mansion’s richly detailed redbrick and limestone façade, landscape architect Janice Parker prioritized symmetry in her plantings. Pleached Linden trees frame the entry, while ivy billows from angular concrete containers.

Foyer and Main Stair Hall by Yellow House Architects

Foyer and Main Stair Hall by Yellow House Architects

With Julia Marlowe—the early-1900s Shakespearean actress and the River Mansion’s first occupant—as their muse, Yellow House Architects indulged in grand and theatrical gestures in the home’s foyer. Let us count the ways: Warped glass paneling by Atelier Barrois and the sculptural chandelier by Nacho Carbonell rouse in the shadowy entry, while a squiggly-lined white plaster treatment offers a quiet contrast as it leads to the second floor of the home.

Parlor by David Scott Interiors

Parlor by David Scott Interiors

David Scott Interiors is known for eloquently assembling top-tier art and design within distinguished—though never dull—architecture, and the studio’s parlor is right on cue. Neutrally toned Pierre Frey fabrics lay a calming canvas for collectible design to shine, including the pièce de résistance: the Jean Marie Fiori–designed patinated bronze chimney, sourced through Twenty First Gallery.

Sitting room by Penny Drue Baird, Dessins LLC

Sitting room by Penny Drue Baird, Dessins LLC

Hushed in tone, designer Penny Drue Baird’s sitting room speaks volumes in tactility. That’s thanks in large part to the velvet wall covering—the Boudoir pattern by Elitis—whose linear forms reflect in the plush rug by Sacco Carpet. Apparatus fixtures finished in a brushed brass warm the interior, while antiques from Bernd Goeckler and Carlos de la Puente furnish the space.

Den by Halden Interiors

Den by Halden Interiors

Befitting for her nature inspirations, designer Kesha Franklin worked from the ground up in the “Heart of the Vine” den, custom designing an abstract leaf floor covering with the Rug Company. Its hunter green, chartreuse, and crisp white palette travels throughout the space, namely in the Shade Store window treatments, which feature Gaston y Daniela fabric by Kravet, and in the Murano glass Italian Lotus chandelier courtesy of Cosulich Interiors & Antiques.

Parlor by Ghislaine Viñas

Parlor by Ghislaine Viñas

Wanting to create space as intriguing as the Hudson River view beyond the parlor’s grand windows, designer Ghislaine Viñas called upon her network of artisans: Mark Mulroney crafted the felted murals that layer atop a custom wallpaper from Wolf Gordon, while curtain fabric by Dedar, lighting by RBW, a custom scalloped coffee table fabricated by Brooklyn Millwork, and various pieces from The Future Perfect enliven the interior.

Family room by Timothy Corrigan, Inc.

Family room by Timothy Corrigan, Inc.

No detail went unnoticed in the family room, where Timothy Corrigan began by defining the interior’s original millwork with tonal coats of green, namely Benjamin Moore’s Lily Pad and Stolen Moments. From there, the Spring Fever wallpaper by Timothy Corrigan for Fromental, with its Flemish-inspired botanicals hand-painted atop a perfectly sheened silver ground, established the dialogue for the rest of the interior—from insect-adorned pillow trim by Samuel and Sons to plaster leaf sculptures by Stephen Antonson and even the custom serpent medallion slithering from the David Duncan Studio chandelier.

Powder bath by Lindsey Coral Harper Interior Design

Powder bath by Lindsey Coral Harper Interior Design

In the second-floor powder bath, designer Lindsey Coral Harper pulled her warm color palette from the interior’s original stone flooring. Coastal inspirations were calling—perhaps, in part, due to her soon-to-open shop in seaside Stonington Borough, Connecticut—and the designer answered with works by fellow coastal creatives, namely a shell-covered stool by Quarto Design, rattan seating by Varnish Collective, and papier-mâché art from Palm Beach favorite Casa Gusto.

Staircase by Halden Interiors

Staircase by Halden Interiors

The custom rug continues up the third-floor staircase, which Franklin beautifully envelops in a hand-painted mural by artist Judith Sipos of Nono Art. The treatment plays off of the floral field in the background of a striking photograph by South African photographer Pieter Hugo, which almost becomes one with the room. Pendants by designer Feyza Kemahlioglu for Wexler Gallery flank the artwork.

Drawing room by Neal Beckstedt Studio

Drawing room by Neal Beckstedt Studio

Reimagining the home’s wine room into an artist’s studio, Neal Beckstedt “envisioned the glass-enclosed room as an architect’s private drawing room—a space for solitude and relaxation through creativity,” shares the designer. A custom stone patterned floor designed with Artistic Tile grounds the room’s hewed, timeworn demeanor. The nook comes complete with Swedish antiques from Deinst + Dotter and a fabric striped wall covering by Chelsea Textiles.

Library by JayJeffers, Inc.

Library by JayJeffers, Inc.

With studio locations in San Francisco and (as of recently) New York City, designer Jay Jeffers set out to create a culmination of the coastal cities within the library. Coating the walls—and the millwork, bookcases, and even some books too—in a two-tone treatment of rust brown and airy gray plaster paint establishes the sultry surrounding, while artisan works such as the commanding desk by Brooklyn sculptor Aaron Poritz, the desk chair by LA-based Cuff Studio, and the jute and wool rug by Mark Nelson Designs play up the bicoastal narrative.

Elevator bank and Catering kitchen by Lillian Wu Studio

“I wanted to create a pantry space that is beaming with warmth, wilderness, and a sense of wonder,” says designer Lillian Wu, who started by swathing the pantry in Calico’s Wanderlust wallpaper. In the catering kitchen, which is decked out with JennAir appliances, brass details from Rocky Mountain Hardware warms the organic blue cabinetry.

Lounge by Sawyer | Berson

Lounge by Sawyer | Berson

An essence of “understated luxury” was top of mind for Sawyer | Berson when approaching the third floor’s main room, where a travertine stone fireplace by Lido Stone Works materially contrasts with suede-wrapped wall panels. “We designed the lounge as an elegant pass-through space reminiscent of a glamorous club room in New York City,” says Brian Sawyer. The branch-like bouquet, a paper sculpture made by Sourabh Gupta, mimics the tree-lined street on view through the round window frame.

Bedroom by Mary McDonald Inc

Bedroom by Mary McDonald Inc

For the past few years, says Mary McDonald, coquillage and “all things grotto” have been objects of her reverie. Now, those musings are full-on manifested in “Lady Borromeo’s Grotto,” her bedroom design that layers upon Schumacher’s boldly beautiful Shell Grotto wallpaper. Antique furnishings, saturated upholstery fabrics by Schumacher, and floor covering by Patterson Flynn play off the aquatic palette. “I love how the sconces and slipcovered wall chairs interplay with [the] intricate patterning of the faux shellwork,” adds McDonald.

Bathroom and closet by Design Studio 15

The colorful cylinders of Avram Ruso Studio’s traveling chandelier seem to reflect like a disco ball onto the Pinnacle Fete Nero Marble tile from Artistic Tile in Design Studio 15’s chic bathroom. The fun continues in the adjoining closet thanks to a blue ombre runner from the Rug Company, crystal-encrusted lighting by Gaspare Asaro, and a custom Ornare closet, chicly adorned with brass trim.

Kitchen by Wesley Moon Inc.

Kitchen by Wesley Moon, Inc.

Wanting the kitchen to feel contemporary while also paying homage to the home’s Edwardian roots, Wesley Moon devised a custom plaster molding in collaboration with Hyde Park Mouldings to create an architectural foundation for the era-spanning heart of the home. He then worked with LaPolla Designs to create the cabinetry’s hand-applied decorative finish, coordinated to the Cosentino countertops and Ann Sacks backsplash. Apparatus lighting, JennAir appliances, and Kohler fixtures equip the space.

Laundry room by Fairfax Dorn Projects

Laundry room by Fairfax Dorn Projects

Adorned with passerine birds, the Pompeii wallpaper by Jennifer Shorty was the launch point for Fairfax Dorn Projects’ multitasking laundry room. A sisal carpet from Sacco Carpet, shelving accessories from Aero, window treatments by the Shade Store, and a JennAir washer and dryer round out the interior.

Primary bedroom and hallway by Sasha Bikoff Interior Design

Primary bedroom and Hallway by Sasha Bikoff Interior Design

“I knew I wanted to create a clamshell bed, which has always been a dream of mine,” says Sasha Bikoff of her starting point for the primary bedroom. Fabricating a piece that mirrored her imagination? That posed a bit of a challenge. She eventually found her ideal material at fashion world go-to Mood Fabrics in New York’s Garment District and worked with John Pomp to fabricate the inflated bed frame, which shines fabulously against the reflective Cloud wallpaper by Calico, made “in custom rococo candyland colors,” shares Bikoff. A corner nook covered in a hot pink vegan fur rug from Stark (and inspired by the 1968 Bazaar sofa by Superstudio) makes for sultry seating. The carpet and chandelier are Bikoff’s own designs for Rug Art and Versace, respectively, and the bow and tasseled window treatments are fabricated by the Shade Store.

Bathroom and closet by Sergio Mercado Design

Bathroom and closet by Sergio Mercado Design

If ever there was furnishing or fixture to get across Sergio Mercado’s ethereal inspirations for the bathroom, it’d be Paris-based designer Céline Wright’s Nuage Hanging lighting. Hung in a trio, the paper chandeliers float like clouds over the Kohler tub. Tactile architectural elements backdrop the Silk Georgette stone countertop and mirror by Salvator. Plumbing fixtures by Kohler, and sheer window covering by the Shade Store.

Sitting room by Clinton Smith Studio

Sitting room by Clinton Smith Studio

“It is a room for respite,” says designer Clinton Smith of the cozy, well-layered space on the show house’s top floor. Once used as a nursery, Smith transforms the intimate space into “the Hideaway,” a shimmering solace wrapped in a celestial Calico wallpaper and layered with cushions upholstered in a gilded mix of Zoffany, Harlequin, Morris & Co., and Sanderson textiles. Opposite the Oly daybed, a pair of Tavish etageres by Holland MacRae displays an array of books and storied artworks.

Bathroom by Ahmad AbouZanat | PROJECT AZ

Bathroom by Ahmad AbouZanat | PROJECT AZ

When designing the bathroom, Ahmad AbouZanat pulled from the historic home’s façade, color-matching the linear tile from Fireclay Tiles with the exterior’s dark-red brickwork and limestone trim. His favorite part of the Kohler-outfitted interior? “How the space celebrates that there is beauty in less; that a bathroom, a place where you start and end your day, doesn’t need to be overly ornate but rather a blend of simple, luxurious materials,” says AbouZanat.

Rodolfo Martinez

Dressing room by Clive Lonstein Inc.

Dressing room by Clive Lonstein Inc.

When Clive Lonstein was assigned one of the home’s smaller bedrooms, it was only natural that the designer—who’s worked with Tiffany & Co. among other fashion behemoths—decided to reimagine the space into a dressing room. Among the many jewels featured within it is a full-length mirror by ceramic artist Peter Lane, reminiscent of a marquee mirror with its repeated orbs, as well as a sitting nook outfitted in Dedar’s Kiku fabric. Objects from Carpenters Workshop Gallery decorate the space, and an antiqued mirror trim creates a luxe border.

Nickolas Sargent

Dining room by Georgis & Mirgorodsky

Dining room by Georgis & Mirgorodsky

“Our room is inspired by historic interiors of Cairo, Istanbul, and Damascus—places which enjoyed periods of cross-cultural pollination,” shares William T. Georgis of his and Ilya Mirgorodsky’s dining room and lounge. Thebes stools and custom poufs are available for those who don’t reserve a spot on the Georgis & Mirgorodsky-designed Bombola sofa (available through Maison Gerard), which has been upholstered in an acorn-brown shearling from Dualoy Leather.

EUREKA, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, April 26, 2023 /EINPresswire.com/ — Jon Witkop and Michelle Rowland of the Eureka office of Corcoran Icon Properties have just completed the completion of the historic Southport Landing mansion at 444 Phelan Road in beautiful Loleta, California. listed . Just five miles north of Eureka, the property is near the southern waterway of Humboldt Bay.

Charles Heney was the original owner of the land and it was part of his farming operations. Heney had come to San Francisco from New Brunswick with the gold rush of 1849 and then ended up in Eureka in 1855. He opened a general store and became a postmaster before buying Southport Ranch. His dream included developing Southport as a town and as a shipping point for the farming community. He built a railroad in 1885 to facilitate the transportation of goods to market. However, weather and circumstances were against the plan, and he was out of business by 1885. His son William, proprietor of the Humboldt Times in Eureka, moved to the area and completed the Colonial Revival house down a country lane, moving to Southport in 1901 with his large family.

The home sits on 2.84 acres with majestic views of the bay, pastureland and cypress forests. The three-story, 5,400-square-foot home includes eight bedrooms, four bathrooms, a study, recreation room, dining room, kitchen, laundry room, and living room — a total of 20 rooms, all with stunning views of the dramatic surroundings. Like a step back in time, the graceful staircase, the shiny patina of the wooden floors, the lighting fixtures, the detailed fittings and the spacious veranda reflect all the luxury and history of the building.

As the family grew and moved on, the house fell into disrepair for some time. Then, in 1987, a new owner restored the mansion, bringing it back to its former glory with modern wiring, plumbing, and sheetrock. Subsequent owners renovated it and opened it as a bed and breakfast in 1997.

Southport Landing is a registered historic home on the shores of Humboldt Bay, built around the turn of the century. Once a haven for weary ship captains, this early colonial residence was the center of the community of Southport, a railroad and shipping port that connected the Eel River basin to San Francisco. Now hiking, kayaking, biking, bird watching and beach combing are all easily accessible.

“Southport Landing is almost magical in both its setting and its design,” commented Witkop, Listing Agent. “It is a timeless classic property that can transport you to another time and beautiful dimension.” The home is listed at $1,275,000.
