A boomer and his wife moved to Kansas after living in California for 50 years.

He and his wife sold their home for $1.4 million and bought a historic home in Kansas for less than $400,000.

He said it's much easier to make friends in Kansas and the cost of living is much lower.

Mike H., 73, lived in California for 50 years, but it was a high school reunion in Kansas that made him move back.

The former architectural designer had a home north of the Golden Gate Bridge that he bought over 30 years ago, and although he loved the weather and his job, he knew he wanted to return to Kansas, where he attended high school.

In 2020, he and his wife sold their home and moved to a suburb of Kansas City. They bought a historic property for a third of the price of their home in California and said life was more peaceful with friendlier people, less traffic and cheaper prices.

“California changed so much in the time I lived there that toward the end we couldn’t get out of there fast enough,” Mike said. “We weren’t really happy there for 10 to 15 years as it became more and more crowded and the condition deteriorated.”

Many Californians have told BI that they are moving to states with lower costs of living, better work-life balance and better climate conditions. According to the Census Bureau's ACS data table, about 818,000 people left California between 2021 and 2022, while 475,800 followed suit.

While the California to Texas and California to Arizona routes were the most popular, over 5,500 people moved from California to Kansas between 2021 and 2022.

Leaving California after five decades

Mike, whose identity is known to Business Insider but who requested partial anonymity for privacy reasons, grew up in Minneapolis but moved to Kansas with his family when he was 15. He lived there for five years and moved to California in 1970. He knew he wanted to live in California after a trip to Disneyland at age 10.

For most of his time in California, he lived in Mill Valley, north of the Golden Gate Bridge. He recalled frequently seeing celebrities on the way from his home on Highway 1 to downtown San Francisco. From 1988 until his move in 2020, he lived in what was known as a “treehouse fixer-upper.”

He initially worked as a building contractor and then switched to architecture and planning. Although he enjoyed life in California and had a successful career, he said his area has lost its charm over the last decade. He said at times the traffic was so heavy that he couldn't leave his house because cars were parked in his driveway.

He said it was difficult to find parking at the grocery store around his house. He noted that infrastructure in his area had begun to crumble, and he said the quality of public education nearby had declined. As he got older, he also said that it became harder to make friends and that situations felt more and more tense. He said it has been a challenge getting to know some of his neighbors.

Still, he and his wife didn't want to move because Proposition 13 fixed their property taxes when they bought their home. They thought they could move to Phoenix or Reno, but neither attracted them.

In 2018, he received an invitation to his 50th high school reunion in Kansas and realized that the state he briefly called home as a child was the place he needed to move.

“We drove around and I thought this place was beautiful and so clean. The streets were so wide that you could park right outside the front door of your destination. We found this place really livable,” Mike said. “We came back to California, and about a week later we were reminiscing and finally said, let’s get out of here and go to Kansas.”

The move to the Kansas City metro took a year and a half because his wife still had a few months until retirement and they still needed to remodel their home in California.

“To be honest, if we hadn't gone to that meeting in 2018, we would probably still be living in the same house in California because moving would suddenly require new taxes everywhere I move to.” said Mike. “I could have sold the house for a lot of money, but my next house would cost a lot of money.”

Moving to Kansas: Pros and Cons

In 2020, they sold their California home for $1.4 million and moved to Westwood Hills, a town of 400 on the Kansas-Missouri border and about a 15-minute drive from Kansas City. They purchased a 1927 home listed on the National Register of Historic Places for less than $400,000.

He estimates he pays more taxes in Kansas, and when he first moved he said he was surprised at how similar some prices were, such as at the hardware store. He also said dining out is about the same in the two states.

While he acknowledged his comparisons aren't entirely accurate due to inflation during the pandemic, he said the cost of food, energy and water is much lower in Kansas. Even if he runs the heat or air conditioning year-round, his utility bills are a fraction of what he spent in California. While gasoline costs an average of $4.74 per gallon in California, gasoline costs $2.91 per gallon in Kansas.

While he said water is expensive and scarce in California, he said he can now have a nice lawn and have barbecues outside without the stress of running out of water.

He said he and his wife are prepared for colder winters, although the last few months have been more than bearable. He and some of his friends expected Kansas to be miles of barren, flat land, even though he said his area had lots of greenery, rolling hills and streams.

Mike said that meeting new people and making friends is much easier in Kansas. A car enthusiast whose friends have moved away from the Bay Area, he joined a group of a dozen locals who meet weekly to discuss and try out cars.

“It's easier to live here. The streets are wider, the traffic is less aggressive, no one honks the horn or rages in the street,” Mike said, adding that his community reminds him of Minnesota.

He said he has no intention of leaving Kansas and noted that his experience so far has been a pleasant surprise.

“I’m not a California basher because California has been very good to me and it’s a beautiful place,” Mike said. “I miss the palm trees, the proximity to the sea and the daily sight of the bay, but that wasn’t enough to keep us.”

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Fire Department is evacuating a nursing home Tuesday afternoon due to an HVAC failure.

A KCFD spokesperson said 117 patients at Parkview Healthcare, located at 128 North Hardesty, are being relocated to other local nursing homes via city buses.

FOX4 Newsletters: Sign up to get breaking news sent to your inbox

KCFD said seven patients had COVID-19 and were, therefore, taken to local hospitals.

No other illnesses or heat-related issues have been reported, KCFD said.

The nursing home has not released information about what led to the HVAC failure or when repairs could be expected.

The Kansas City area is currently under an Excessive Heat Warning with temperatures in the upper-90s and the heat index over 110 degrees.

FOX4 found some residents sitting outside and others still inside Tuesday afternoon as they waited to be moved to another facility.

Family of one patient said she learned the facility was using an air tube inside to try to circulate air.

“I call up here and I guess I’m speaking with a receptionist, and she goes, ‘Well they’re in a meeting,’ and everything, and I’m like, ‘OK, they’ve been sitting out here for how long with no air conditioner?’” said Denise Oates, whose mom was being evacuated.

She was upset she found out about the incident through social media.

“I’m just like call me and let me know before you move her,” Oates said. “I need to know where she moves to.”

FOX4 called the nursing home to see if they notified families, but we couldn’t get a clear answer.

Travis Kelce has called Kansas City home since the Kansas City Chiefs selected him in the third round of the 2013 NFL draft. He hasn’t played for another NFL franchise and built a winning legacy in the “Heart of America” with quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

As of the 2022 season, Kelce is a two-time Super Bowl winner, a four-time First Team All-Pro member, and an eight-time Pro Bowler. Since Kansas City has been his residence for a decade, he has a residence fitting for a champion like him.

A look at Travis Kelce’s Kansas City home

Kelce won his first Super Bowl ring with the Chiefs during the 2019 NFL season. It was a memorable victory because they overhauled a fourth-quarter deficit to defeat the San Francisco 49ers.

At that time, Travis Kelce was amid a five-year, $46 million contract extension with the Chiefs. However, he must have pulled in additional money following the Super Bowl championship. Therefore, he decided it was time to invest in a house.

The All-Pro tight end purchased a custom estate in Kansas City’s Briarcliff West community in 2019 for $995,000. The estate was originally built in 1994 but was renovated in 2007. It has five bathrooms, two half-baths, and seven bedrooms.

The 10,000-square-foot residence has a main floor and an upper level with adequate lighting. The kitchen features granite countertops, while the classy dining table is on the main floor. It also has a deck that offers a view of the surroundings and a spot for al fresco dining.

Meanwhile, the master bedroom in Kelce’s house is the most luxurious among the sleeping spaces. It has a private balcony and a bathroom with two sinks, a soaking tub and a steam shower.

Image credit: Elaina Sansone | ReeceNichols-KCN via VelvetRopes.comImage credit: Elaina Sansone | ReeceNichols-KCN via VelvetRopes.com

The residence also has a recreational area, a gym, a bar and a wine storage room. The outdoors also features a swimming pool and a gazebo.

Image credit: Elaina Sansone | ReeceNichols-KCN via VelvetRopes.com

Image credit: Elaina Sansone | ReeceNichols-KCN via VelvetRopes.com

Aside from this house, he also rents a Kansas City penthouse at One Light Luxury in the Power and Light district, worth up to $3,400 monthly. That amount includes gym membership, concierge service, and internet connection.

Travis Kelce’s net worth

Kelce’s residence is part of his $30 million net worth as of 2023. Per Spotrac, he has earned $77 million in 11 seasons with the Chiefs. Since half of that amount goes to taxes, the $30 million assessment is right on the money.

Aside from his NFL salary, he also earns millions annually from endorsements. He has sponsorship deals with Nike, T-Mobile, Old Spice, and McDonald’s, among others. Travis Kelce is also cashing in on his “New Heights” podcast with his brother, Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce.

The younger of the Kelce brothers have also invested in the hot sauce company Cholula, men’s fashion brand Indochino, RealTruck, Hydrow and ThePlayersTV.

Travis Kelce’s contract

Kelce is currently playing under the four-year, $57.25 million contract he signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in August 2020. His agent, Vantage Management Group’s Melvin Bratton, negotiated the deal. In 2023, he will earn an $11.25 million base salary, a $750,000 roster bonus, and a $250,000 workout bonus.

He is under contract with the Chiefs until 2025, when he turns 36. Travis Kelce’s contract is nowhere near Patrick Mahomes’ ten-year, $450 million mega-extension. Therefore, his deal is a steal, considering his production on offense.

LIBERTY, Missouri – When handyman Jamie Seib saw FOX4 Problem Solvers waiting for him outside the courthouse, he ran.

This surprised us as we were only there to see his side in disputes with several clients, all of whom accuse him of cheating on them.

Liberty woman missing $400 in mail seeks answers

One of those clients was Deborah Mason, who sued Seib for the $1,500 she paid him as a down payment to paint her Pleasant Valley home. The work was supposed to be completed in a week, but that was months ago.

Mason said once she gave Seib money, she had trouble reaching him.

“He was missing for about a week,” Mason said.

But then Seib texted her that he needed $400 more before he could start the job. When she refused, Seib promised to start painting to prove to her that he was trustworthy.

That Saturday, he showed up with a ladder and spent an hour caulking boards outside their home. He even brought over a contractor-sized bucket of paint. Then, Mason said, he was gone again.

They exchanged increasingly heated text messages for days until Mason received a final text message from Seib telling her he wasn’t coming back.

“Ok, I’m done with all your disrespectful and negative thoughts towards me. Please put my ladder in the driveway and I’ll be there to pick it up,” Seib texted.

Mason then asked for her money back, but Seib never gave her a dime. She then filed a lawsuit and called FOX4 Problem Solvers.

Read more research on problem solvers on FOX4

“I feel like someone needs to stop this from happening to other people,” Mason said.

Problem solvers wanted Seib’s side. So we tracked him down at the Clay County Justice Center, where he’s being charged with theft for charging $4,800 to have another client’s carpet installed and never getting the job done.

Although that customer wasn’t in court, Mason was, and so was Rachel Cox, another disgruntled Seib customer.

Both women watched from the gallery as Seib, who appeared without a lawyer, declared to the judge that he was innocent. The judge ordered him to have a court-appointed attorney at his next court date on July 19.

“I hired Jamie Seib to build a patio for me,” Cox said after the trial. Cox said she paid him $5,000, but the workmanship was so poor that the deck began to collapse just weeks after he finished the job.

“I asked him several times to come out and fix it, but he never did,” Cox said.

Also included in the list of errors were foundations with no concrete support and split wood. Cox was awarded a $2,000 judgment against Seib in small claims court. That was nine months ago. She said she didn’t see a penny.

Meanwhile, Seib’s already bad day was about to get even worse. Problem Solvers recorded everything on camera.

“I’m not going to talk to you,” he told FOX4.

But Seib needs to talk to the judge.

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) – Transgender people born in Kansas could be barred from altering their birth certificates to reflect their gender identity if the conservative Republican prosecutor succeeds in a legal action he launched late Friday.

Attorney General Kris Kobach filed a motion in federal court asking a judge to reverse the requirement in Kansas to allow transgender people to alter their birth certificates.

U.S. District Judge Daniel Crabtree in 2019 imposed a requirement to settle a lawsuit filed by four transgender residents of Kansas against three officials at the state’s Department of Health and Human Services over a policy that critics said prevented transgender people from doing so even after the transition Make changes, legally change their name, and get a new driver Driver’s licenses and social security cards.

It wasn’t clear if Kobach’s efforts would succeed, as a 2020 U.S. Supreme Court ruling declared that a federal law prohibiting sex discrimination in the workplace also prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity. This year, federal judges in Idaho and Ohio overturned rules against transgender people changing their birth certificates, but on Thursday a federal judge in Tennessee dismissed a lawsuit challenging one of the country’s few remaining state measures against such changes.

Kobach’s move appears to be in line with a new, sweeping Kansas law that goes into effect July 1 and rolls back transgender rights. It was enacted by the Republican-controlled Legislature due to the veto of Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly. A memo filed electronically with Kobach’s application just before midnight cited the law as reason for a re-examination of the 2019 settlement.

The memo argued that Crabtree’s order made it “impossible” to follow the new state law and that the state health department, which administers birth certificates, was now “obligated to execute the law as written” since the legislature had “spoken.” .

Kobach had already scheduled a press conference at the Statehouse for Monday afternoon to discuss the enforcement of the new law.

Crabtree’s 2019 order blocked a policy imposed by former Republican Gov. Sam Brownback’s administration that was among the harshest anti-birth certificate changes in the United States. Kelly is a strong supporter of LGBTQ+ rights and her government agreed to settle the lawsuit less than six months after taking office.

That decision came nearly a year after Crabtree said the Kansas policy violated the constitutional right of transgender people to due process and equal treatment before the law. His order notes that federal courts in Idaho and Puerto Rico had rejected the no-change policy. Kobach’s memo called those judgments outdated.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Kansas and the LGBTQ+ rights group Lambda Legal, which represents the four Kansas residents, condemned Kobach’s move. Lamda Legal’s Omar Gonzalez-Pagan called it “unnecessary and cruel”.

Kansas ACLU executive director Micah Kubic added in a statement, “Mr. Kobach should reconsider the wisdom — and the sheer lewdness — of this attempt to weaponize his office’s authority to attack transgender Kansas just trying to get on with their lives.”

Kansas’ new law aims to prevent transgender people from using restrooms, locker rooms and other same-sex facilities related to their identity. At least nine other states have such laws, mostly focused on public schools.

Kobach said he believes Kansas’ new law will also prevent transgender people from changing their driver’s license, although the law does not provide specific enforcement mechanisms. Legislators drafted the bill so they can prevent transgender people from changing their birth certificates, except for the 2019 federal court order, without specifically mentioning birth certificates or driver’s licenses.

For weeks, a project by Kansas Legal Services, a nonprofit law firm, encouraged transgender people from Kansas to change their driver’s licenses before the new law went into effect. Kelly’s administration, which is responsible for licensing drivers, hasn’t said whether it thinks such changes would still be allowed under the new law.

Ellen Bertels, the attorney who led the effort, said that while a transgender person could sue after the law went into effect to protect people’s right to change their driver’s licenses, a lawsuit by a state official against Kelly’s government could be aimed at prevent such changes.

“That’s sort of the obvious place they would end up,” Bertels said.

As for birth certificates, the number of states that don’t allow transgender people to alter birth certificates has decreased due to challenges in federal courts like the one in Kansas. In Oklahoma, Republican Gov. Kevin Stitt is being sued over his 2021 executive order banning such changes.

According to Alex Rate, one of their attorneys, the Montana ACLU plans to challenge a rule enacted there last year that prohibits people from changing the gender on their birth certificates. The state has tightened its rules since GOP Gov. Greg Gianforte took office in 2021.

Previously, since 2017, when Democrat Steve Bullock was governor, Montana allowed transgender people to alter their birth certificates by filling out an affidavit.

Advocates of LGBTQ+ rights say that changing birth certificates, driver’s licenses and other records to reflect a transgender person’s gender identity is key to confirming their identity and often vastly improves their mental health.

Policies against altering birth certificates and other documents also have practical implications for transgender residents. For example, Kansas requires voters to show photo identification when voting or obtaining an absentee ballot.

Critics of the new Kansas law say it aims to legally exclude transgender people.

It explains that state law recognizes only two sexes, male and female, and defines them based on a person’s “biological reproductive system” at birth. A woman is someone whose system is “designed to produce eggs,” while a man is just someone with a system “to fertilize a woman’s eggs.”

The law then states that “important government objectives” to protect people’s health, safety and privacy justify the establishment of gender-segregated spaces consistent with these definitions.

After Cincinnati scored five runs in the second half to take a 5-1 lead, Cincinnati’s offense largely sat still for the remainder of the game. But the pitching team took control, with the bullpen knocking out the home side in the last four innings to secure a one-run win.

It was also the Reds’ ninth win in their last 11 away games. The Reds are aiming for the three-game win on Wednesday.

As this final article goes online, the Reds are now just a game and a half behind second-seeded Milwaukee, who blew a ninth-inning lead tonight in a 7-5 loss to Minnesota. Cincinnati is currently three games behind first-seeded Pittsburgh, who tied the sixth inning with the Cubs in Chicago at 10:45 p.m. ET. Also, Cincinnati is just two games behind San Francisco for third and final spot in the National League wildcard playoffs.

The offensive

Elly De La Cruz took the lead in the second inning with a walk, stole second, and ended up in third with a bad throw. Spencer Steer then hit a left to equalize 1-1. An RBI double from Kevin Newman made it 2-1, Stuart Fairchild followed with a single to make it 3-1. TJ Friedl then hit a single to the right to give Newman a 4-1 lead. Fairchild and Friedl then double stole third and second place respectively. Then Matt McLain went to load the bases with an out. Jonathan India emerged as number two into right field. As De La Cruz led for the second time in the inning, a wild pitch from Jordan scored Lyle’s run number five.

India and De La Cruz, the last two outs of the second inning, were the first of 14 straight Reds Lyles pulled back in five runs in the second inning after the Cincinnati riot.

Royals substitute Jackson Kowar extended that streak to 16 before dishing out a two-out walk to Friedl in the seventh set. India’s eighth-inning walk was Cincinnati’s only other baserunner of the night.

Friedl’s two goals got the Reds batsmen on their toes.

“This team is full of grinders. We will find a way to win.”

The pitching

Brandon Williamson gave up an unearned run in the first half, largely due to a tapper from Bobby Witt Jr. to Williamson’s right, which he hurried to throw first. The toss bounced in first place, resulting in the runners finishing in first and third place and each having an out. RJ Melendez then hit a deep, sacrificial flight to the right that would have been the third out had it not been for Williamson’s miss.

Second-inning doubles from Edward Olivares and Matt Duffy scored KC’s second run and left the Reds 5-2 after two. A two-run home run by Witt brought KC to 5:4 in the third round.

Williamson went through the first five innings, allowing seven hits and three earned runs. Significantly, he gave no walks.

Right-back Daniel Duarte, who was called back from Louisville earlier in the day, was eliminated from the team in play six after seven pitches in his first major league appearance since April 2022.

Ian Gibaut came on at the end of the seventh, and three of the first four batters he faced entered the game with two walks and a hit batsman. That prompted manager David Bell to call in Lucas Sims, who responded by punching Nick Pratto and swinging Salvador Perez.

— Cincinnati Reds (@Reds) June 14, 2023

Sims then only allowed a two-out single in the eighth game against the heart of the KC ranks. Sims was definitely the Reds’ pitching star of the game.

Alexis Diaz came on ninth and was eliminated by the Royals with his 16th save.

NEW YORK (AP) – Two men who slipped on six-inch heels for Broadway’s “Kinky Boots” will play the title character behind the curtain when “The Wiz” tours the United States beginning this fall and hitting Broadway in 2024 — Wayne Brady and Alan Mingo Jr.

“Me and Wayne are going back as actors to where we were friends, Los Angeles,” says Minho. “So what better way to share a gig with your friends?” Brady adds, “It’s a dream. It really is a dream.”

Brady will perform as Wiz in San Francisco from January 16th to February. 11 at the Golden Gate Theater and in Los Angeles from February 13 to March 3 before hitting Broadway in spring 2024.

Mingo will play the Wiz in the remaining cities of the national tour beginning with the start in Baltimore and including Cleveland; Washington, D.C.; Pittsburgh; Charlotte, North Carolina; Atlanta; Greenville, South Carolina; Chicago; Des Moines, Iowa; Tempe, Arizona and San Diego.

Most recently, the two actors appeared on Broadway in Kinky Boots, where they played Lola. Brady passed the role to Mingo, and “now I’ll go out on the street and then I’ll pass the baton to him,” says Mingo.

“The Wiz” was one of two shows that a young Brady always dreamed of doing one day. “I’ve always wanted to be on The Wiz.” I’ve always wanted to be on Dreamgirls. Those were two of the classics that were something of the North Star of theater as a kid. It was like, ‘Hey, if you can get on one of these shows, that means you made it.'”

The cast also includes Kyle Ramar Freeman as the lion, Phillip Johnson Richardson as the Tin Man and Avery Wilson as the Scarecrow. Schele Williams will direct and says she hopes the show will be a “touchstone for a new generation”.

The show is an adaptation of The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, with a book by William F. Brown and music and lyrics by Charlie Smalls.

The Wiz premiered on Broadway in 1975 and won seven Tonys, including Best Musical. It includes such classic songs as “What Would I Do If I Could Feel” and “Ease On Down the Road”.

A 1978 film version of The Wiz starred Diana Ross, Lena Horne and Richard Pryor as Wiz. Michael Jackson played the scarecrow, Nipsey Russell played the tin man and Ted Ross played the lion. NBC televised a live version in 2015, starring Queen Latifah, Ne-Yo and David Alan Grier.

Both Brady and Mingo say the show — with black actors front and center — is finding a new resonance as it progresses at a slower pace in the coming months.

“I think of all these people of color on this stage telling the story of a young woman who is lost and looking for something. Disenfranchised, she happens to meet three other young people who are all looking for something and can’t get answers from the elderly around them because the world is in chaos. She has to make an effort and find her way – now is the right time.”

Mingo, who starred in the original series Rent and The Little Mermaid, said The Wiz played an important role in inspiring his career.

“It motivated me to get into this business,” he says. “I love bringing our art to new audiences. Hopefully they will make wonderful patrons, if not art themselves.”

The original Broadway production starred Stephanie Mills as Dorothy, Dee Dee Bridgewater as the good witch Glinda, and Andre De Shields as the wizard.

Brady, who won a Primetime Emmy Award for “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” says he’ll place his wiz somewhere between Prior and De Shields.

“I already know I have two places to find inspiration. I loved Richard’s dark twist and I loved Andre’s standout twist, his panache and all the grandiosity,” he says. “So I think somewhere in the middle I’ll put my husband. I think I can add a certain charm and light to it all.”

Kansas City Chiefs at San Francisco 49ers Betting Odds, Picks, and Predictions for Week 7

The Chiefs (4-2) head into Levi’s Stadium to take on the 49ers (3-3) in an interconference clash that also serves as a rematch of Super Bowl LIV. Both teams come looking to rebound from Week 6 losses – Kansas City dropped a 24-20 decision at Arrowhead Stadium to the Bills, while San Francisco surprisingly fell to the Falcons by a 28-14 margin on the road.

*Best lines at time of writing listed

money line: Chiefs -120 (DraftKings Sportsbook)/ 49ers +114 (FanDuel Sportsbook)

Point spread: Chiefs -1 (PointsBet Sportsbook)/ 49ers +1.5 (FanDuel Sportsbook)

Total: Over 48.5 points (FanDuel Sportsbook)/ Under 49 points (PointsBet Sportsbook)

The 49ers opened as 1.5-point underdogs when the line was first released last week, and the number had seen an interesting trajectory since. The Chiefs saw their projected advantage swell up to -3 following Week 6 outcomes, but the seismic development of the Christian McCaffrey acquisition by San Francisco predictably had an impact on the number once news broke late Thursday. Even though there still isn’t any certainty as to how many snaps, if any, McCaffrey will play, the number has taken a dive to as much as -1 as of Saturday morning.

The total has also seen some interesting movement, opening at a relatively modest 47.5 before dipping all the way to 46 in the immediate aftermath of Week 6. However, the number began an ascension shortly thereafter and has gotten back up as high as 49 following the McCaffrey news. These two teams combined for 50 points back in Super Bowl LIV while being led by the same quarterbacks, although a vital offensive weapon for KC, Tyreek Hill, is naturally no longer on the roster.

For bettors looking for a unique way to wager, try the PointsBet promo code to make your Week 7 NFL picks. You can try “PointsBetting” for Week 7 and maximize your return.

Kansas City Chiefs at San Francisco 49ers Betting Picks This Week

Concerns about the Chiefs being a much less potent offense without Tyreek Hill have largely proven unfounded through the first six games of the season, as Patrick Mahomes has proven he is unquestionably the one indispensable cog in the offensive machine. Mahomes is averaging 289.3 passing yards per game and owns a 17:4 TD:INT, but he does have a thorny matchup on his hands in this Week 7 interconference clash. The 49ers defense has been elite for the most part, and even last week’s surprising upset came with San Fran missing a slew of key players on that side of the ball.

The good news for the Niners is that Nick Bosa and Jimmie Ward both return for this key showdown, which should make a significant impact. San Francisco already comes in allowing the second-fewest passing yards per game (168.3) and yards per completion (8.3), and the Niners have also compiled the second-most sacks (23). Mahomes has been protected pretty well (11 sacks in six games), but KC’s offensive line will be facing pressure like it hasn’t seen all season, even versus Buffalo.

While Andy Reid doesn’t pay much mind to his running game unless he’s forced to, it’s also worth noting he’s unlikely to find much success whenever he does try to deploy his ground forces. The Niners are essentially just as difficult to run on as they are to pass against, coming in allowing an AFC-low 87.5 rushing yards per game and 3.1 RB yards per carry. San Fran also ranks No. 1 in both second-level and open-field yards allowed, making chunk plays against them on the ground virtually non-existent.

Meanwhile, the matchup shapes a bit more palatable for the Niners offense, with or without McCaffrey’s services. The Chiefs have allowed 266 passing yards per game, including 304.7 per contest in the last three. KC is also giving up an elevated 10.8 yards per completion in that latter span, while Jimmy Garoppolo has a fully healthy pass-catching corps at his disposal and is coming off having thrown for a season-high 296 yards against the Falcons.

Jeff Wilson is certainly no slouch, so if McCaffrey sits out altogether or has a very limited role, the Niners running game will still be in fine shape. Wilson is averaging 4.9 yards per carry and had gained at least 74 rushing yards in four consecutive starts before being limited to seven carries in Week 6 due to game script. The Chiefs have been tougher against the run than the pass, but they’re still allowing 4.2 RB yards per carry and hold a No. 23 ranking in second-level yards allowed. KC also is the most generous team in the league in terms of allowing receiving production to RBs, giving up an NFL-high 56 receptions and 390 receiving yards to the position.

The Niners, and their fan base for that matter, are undoubtedly reinvigorated by the McCaffrey acquisition and also hungry to atone for the ugly Week 6 loss. San Fran’s defense should be in much better health and form, and it will help keep matters very close at home, if not lead the Niners to an outright upset.

Chiefs at 49ers Best Bet: 49ers +1.5 (-105 at FanDuel Sportsbook)

If you’re not yet signed up at FanDuel Sportsbook, use RotoWire’s FanDuel Promo Code to take advantage of a $1,000 no-sweat first bet offer.

Kansas City Chiefs at San Francisco 49ers prediction

49ers 24, Chiefs 21

As mentioned, the 49ers get some key players on defense back this week, and that should make a significant difference. San Francisco should be able to hit some plays through the air against what has been an inconsistent Chiefs secondary, and KC’s passing attack, while potent, should have similar difficulty establishing series-to-series rhythm as it did for stretches of the Week 6 loss to the Bills.

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs (4-2) have had a tough schedule to start the 2022 NFL regular season, and it doesn’t get much easier when they travel to San Francisco to take on Jimmy Garoppolo’s 49ers (3-3) .

Can Mahomes, Travis Kelce and the Chiefs rebound from a narrow Week 6 loss to the Bills? Or will Garoppolo, Deebo Samuel and San Francisco find a groove at home? There were some who predicted this as a Super Bowl 2023 matchup at the start of this season. The game is set to kick off Sunday at 4:25 pm ET from Levi’s Stadium.

Here’s a look at the betting details and USA TODAY’s NFL staff picks for the Chiefs vs. 49ers Week 7 game:

Chiefs at 49ers odds, moneyline and over/under

Follow every game: Live NFL Scores

NFL WEEK 6 DRIP CHECK:Travis Kelce shines brightly; Sauce Gardner embraces the cheesehead

GETTING THERE:Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes believes rivalry with Josh Allen isn’t yet Brady-Manning level

NEW LIDS:The NFL has returned alternate helmets in 2022: Ranking all 13 from best to worst

NFL Week 7 odds, predictions and picks

Saints vs Cardinals | Colts vs Titans | Packers vs Commanders | Falcons vs Bengals | Browns vs Ravens | Giants vs Jaguars | Buccaneers vs Panthers | Lions vs Cowboys | Jets vs Broncos | Texans vs Raiders | Chiefs vs 49ers | Seahawks vs Chargers | Steelers vs Dolphins | Bears vs Patriots

Lorenzo Reyes: Chiefs 28, 49ers 23

San Francisco can be so mercurial and I still have the Chiefs as one of the three best teams in the NFL, despite their close loss to the Bills. Kansas City doesn’t tend to lose consecutive games under Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes and because the Niners’ defense is as banged up as it is, it’s easy to see KC putting up points and covering, despite being on the road.

Safid Deen: Chiefs 27, 49ers 24

Patrick Mahomes threw two interceptions and now faces a vaunted 49ers defense that could be affected if San Francisco star defender Nick Bosa (groin) doesn’t play. Still, I take Mahomes’ firepower over Jimmy Garoppolo’s in this Super Bowl LIV rematch.

Lance Pugmire: 49ers 31, Chiefs 28

Super Bowl revenge for Jimmy G? Yes, the 49ers coughed one up in Atlanta Sunday, but they also watched how Buffalo defended Patrick Mahomes and Co., and the Sunday night game’s in the Bay Area.

NFL WEEK 6 WINNERS AND LOSERS:Bills, Chiefs are top AFC contenders; Bucs struggle in red zone

32 THINGS:Bill’s bag Chiefs; ‘Who Dey?’ Trump’s ‘Who Dat?’

IN DEPTH:The NFL coaches project

NFL salaries: These are the highest-paid NFL players
