“Sorry it took so long,” Morgan said [Lennie James] when he heard a growl coming from his house.

The Season 8 episode, titled “King County,” began with Morgan walking through King County, returning to his old house, and breaking down crying.

“I’m sorry, Duane,” Morgan said.

Suddenly Grace [Karen David] pulled up in a truck.

Final Season: Morgan Jones risked everything to return to King County, Georgia to kill and bury his zombie son, Duane, on Sunday’s episode of Fear The Walking Dead on AMC

‘How did you find me?’ Said Morgan.

“You asked me to come,” Grace said.

Morgan said no one knew he came here.

Mon [Zoey Merchant] She then emerged from the back of the truck she was hiding in and admitted she was the one who sent the SOS message, knowing full well that King County meant something to Morgan.

“Does this have anything to do with Jenny and Duane?” asked Mo.

Morgan said it was his wife and son and that he had come to bring his son to rest after leaving him chained in the attic of his home after being bitten.

Mo told them that Daniel helped her get away from Padre.

“Daniel is still alive?” Morgan said.

Zombie Son: Duane was locked in the attic by Morgan after being bitten. Family reunion: Grace [Karen David] and Mon [Zoey Merchant] Met Morgan at King County Old House: Morgan went to his old house in Georgia where he was living with his family when the zombie apocalypse broke out. Message sender: Mo admitted she was the one who sent the SOS message, knowing full well that King County meant something to Morgan

“He’s building an army to take Padre down,” Mo said. “We can help him with that.”

Morgan said he would do it, but first he had to kill Duane, who turned into a walker after his wife Jenny became infected and bit him.

“I left my boy to be one of them,” Morgan said.

A flare rose into the air and Dwight [Austin Amelio] and sherry [Christine Evangelista] approached on horseback and told Morgan they would take him back to Padre.

“Padre has your son and he’s using him against you,” Morgan said.

“He’s damn right about that,” said Sherry.

“You sold us seven years ago to save your child,” Dwight said. “We’re just getting revenge.”

Together again: Dwight [Austin Amelio] and sherry [Christine Evangelista] Morgan said they would take him back to Padre

Then, when Dwight saw Mo and Grace, he decided to help them escape instead.

Dwight told him that they were also followed by two guards that they had to take care of, but Morgan said he had to do something first. Morgan, Mo and Grace ran into an abandoned house and Morgan told Grace to get a gun that was up by the window.

“I’m not going anywhere until you tell me how you know where everything is in this house,” Grace said.

Morgan said he used to live in the house. As the walkers streamed outside, Grace told them they had to go. Morgan declined.

“I need to get my boy to rest,” Morgan said.

Dwight radioed from outside that they knew they were hiding inside the house. Morgan said he came back to bury his son.

“I’m sorry Morgan, but we have to think of our son, too,” Sherry said.

Dwight’s soldiers fired a flare into the air to lure more walkers to the house. Then Mo called Morgan upstairs and showed him that the walls of the room were covered in writing.

Feeding Frenzy: Walkers were outside in the midst of a feeding frenzy. Plans changed: when Dwight then saw Mo and Grace, he decided to help them escape instead

“I don’t remember ever coming back here after Duane died,” Morgan said.

Mo found Morgan’s family photo album and flipped through it while Morgan picked up a rifle Rick Grimes had given him.

“What have we been doing for the last seven years?” Grace said.

“We did what we felt was necessary,” Morgan said.

“I’m sorry we wasted all this time, Morgan,” Grace said.

Dwight told Morgan they had five minutes to surrender or they would send walkers to set them on fire.

“This is your second chance, dad,” said Mo.

“Rick, he gave you this gun for a reason,” Grace said. ‘Use it.’

Difficult Situation: Morgan struggled with Dwight and his commitment to his zombie son, Duane

Grace kissed Morgan.

“I’m so sorry we wasted so much time,” Grace said.

“Me too,” Morgan said.

Then Morgan opened the door and everyone started killing strays in their path. Then he saw his walker outside and froze. Dwight and Sherry rode up and said Padre needed to know why he was really there and insisted on going inside to see if Morgan was telling the truth.

A Padre soldier traveling with Dwight told them that Shrike wanted answers.

“If he doesn’t tell you why he’s there, kill him,” Shrike [Maya Eshet] said over the walkie-talkie.

Morgan grabbed the soldier’s gun and aimed it at his own head.

“Do it,” Morgan said.

Hard line: “If he doesn’t tell you why he’s there, kill him”, Shrike [Maya Eshet] said over the walkie-talkie

Dwight and Sherry intervened and knocked out the Padre soldiers. Grace hugged Morgan.

“You shouldn’t have done that,” Morgan said.

“I’m not just going to stand here and watch you get killed in cold blood, Morgan,” Dwight said.

Morgan said that Padre would kill her son.

“Not if we have anything to do with it,” Dwight said.

Shrike called for them to answer and Dwight answered. Shrike demanded to speak to her soldier named Oriole.

“You can talk to him after I talk to my son,” Dwight said.

Then Shrike put the microphone in front of Finch [Gavin Warren]. Dwight asked him how he was feeling.

“I think the treatment worked,” Finch said.

Dwight told him to do the chimney sweep he taught him in class. Finch knocked Shrike unconscious. Dwight informed Finch that there was a morning supply boat that would be leaving the Padre compound in 20 minutes and that he should sneak aboard and that he would meet him on the mainland.

Chimney Sweep: Dwight told him to do the chimney sweep he taught him in class and Finch knocked Shrike unconscious

“Look Morgan, whatever happened here, all I know is that you have a chance to change things for Mo,” Dwight said.

Morgan radioed Mo and she told him that one of the torches had set her house on fire.

“Listen baby, I’m coming for you,” Morgan said.

Morgan killed the walkers in front of the burning house and then told Mo to go to the attic. Mo heard a walker in the attic and saw a chained boy walking. Mo then fell through the floor and was trapped. Morgan climbed the stairs and saw that his son, now a zombie, was trying to attack Mo. Morgan pulled the trigger and killed Duane.

Morgan buried him the next day. Morgan then told Grace to help Madison and Daniel take over Padre.

“We reunite every child that still has a parent,” Morgan said. “We do what we say, we’ll spend as much time together as we can.”

Mo took Morgan’s charred family photo album and told him he needed something to remember his family from when they were normal. Suddenly, a walker jumped out of the ashes and grabbed Mo. Grace and Morgan jump in and kill the walker, but Grace is bitten during the fight.

Meanwhile, Sherry and Dwight waited for Finch to appear ashore. When he did, they hugged him. Morgan then pulled up in a truck and killed two Padre soldiers.

Complete determination: Morgan was determined to bury his son. Headshot: A walker was killed by Morgan with a sharp blow to the head. Familiar Territory: Morgan was back in King County, where the story of Rick Grimes in the original series The Walking Dead began

“I need your help with Grace,” Morgan said. “She was bitten. The treatment June used on your boy. It works?’

Sherry said that was the case. They all boarded a transport boat to take Grace to June. Morgan told Grace to hold on.

“Wait a minute, June will be fine,” Morgan said to Grace.

“You don’t know,” Grace said.

“No matter what, we have to live,” Morgan said.

Fear The Walking Dead will return on AMC next Sunday.

Cleve Jones, the LGBTQ activist whose possible eviction from his rent-controlled Castro apartment became a symbol of San Francisco’s housing issues, said he has decided to move out of the flat he’s called home for 12 years by the end of April.

“My physician, my family, my friends all said to me that this is not worth it, this fight to hang onto a place that … doesn’t feel safe” because of a contentious relationship with the new landlord, who will be living upstairs, Jones, 67, said. “I have limited energy and important work that brings me joy. I’m not going to spend the next, who knows how many months, fighting against this woman.”

The situation began when a new owner, Lily Pao Kue, 30, bought the Castro duplex in February for $1,585,000. After installing security cameras, Kue said she had determined that Jones no longer lived there as a primary dwelling because he only showed up briefly over the course of a month. She said Jones’ flatmate Brenden Chadwick appeared to be the sole occupant and termed him an illegal subletter.

Kue invoked the state’s Costa-Hawkins law, which lets landlords raise rent on vacant units to market rate, and notified Jones that she was more than doubling his $2,393 rent to $5,200 as of July 1.

Jones, who is HIV-positive, said he had been protecting his health by spending time in isolation during the pandemic at a house he owns in Guerneville.

San Francisco remains the center of his work, medical care and community, Jones said.

After moving out of the disputed duplex, he will continue to live with Chadwick in the city, Jones said. Chadwick, who shared the Castro apartment with Jones for the past 3½ years, has already found another place.

“He and his dog are my family,” Jones said.

Jones and Kue each accuse the other of harassment, and each said they thought they would prevail if the case went before the San Francisco Rent Board.

Kue, who came to the US as a toddler when her Hmong family was admitted as refugees, said she’s dismayed as being perceived as a rich, entitled real estate speculator, noting that she worked hard to get where she is. She said she wants to live in the upstairs unit and move her mother and grandmother into the downstairs one.

Kue said she is both “mistrustful” and “hopeful” after receiving Jones’ notice to move out, noting that he had previously changed his mind about whether or not to stay.

“I will only be relieved when I’ve gotten my key back without damage done to property,” she said in an email.

Kue says her claim that Jones had already vacated the flat is backed up by Jones’ social media posts about Guerneville and mortgage refinance documents signed in March 2021 in which Jones committed to occupy the Guerneville house as his “principal residence” for at least one year .

Jones said the refi document’s intent was to ensure that he would not rent the Guerneville house to others or list it on Airbnb. He said he has satisfied those conditions while maintaining his residence in the Castro, where he votes, pays utilities and keeps his furniture and possessions. He recently started moving out some items of archival importance to gay history because he feared they could be damaged by construction work Kue is having done upstairs.

Sonoma County property tax records reviewed by The Chronicle show that Jones has never claimed a homeowners exemption on the Guerneville property.

Jones said that he’s among many San Franciscans who cannot afford to purchase in the city, so he turned to a less-expensive area to accumulate some housing security and build some equity. He bought the house in 2018 for $500,000, per public records. He said a little bit of money he made from his memoir, When We Rise: My Life in the Movement, enabled him to do so.

Jones’ situation became a cause celebre, attracting more than 200 supporters, including many well-known politicians, to a rally in his support late last month at Harvey Milk Plaza.

As an organizer with Unite Here Local 2, Jones said he now has additional empathy for the members of the hotel and restaurant workers’ union, who are largely women of color and immigrants, if they were to experience the catastrophe of eviction.

“The only real thing that’s important about my story is not me, it’s not even her (Kue), it’s the reality that with all my unearned advantages of race, gender, the fact that I am politically connected and I do have access to good legal advice, none of that is sufficient to protect me” from the prospect of eviction, Jones said.

As pandemic protections expire, “we’re going to see a small tsunami of evictions coming up,” he said. “Most of those people do not have the resources or support that I have.”

The gay activist first moved to the city in 1973 from Arizona as a 19-year-old and was quickly swept up in the burgeoning LGBTQ political movement of the era, becoming a protege of pioneering gay San Francisco Supervisor Harvey Milk and a community organizer in his own right.

In 1987, the neighborhood was also where Jones founded the Names Project, the organization behind the AIDS Memorial Quilt. When Jones published “When We Rise: My Life in the Movement” in 2016, the book chronicled the evolution of the Castro as an LGBTQ neighborhood as much as it told his own story.

“Even during those times when I was away from the city, I was never really away,” Jones, 67, said recently. “I was always coming back. That’s my hood.”

But this week, Jones is moving out of the rent-controlled, one-bedroom flat in an 18th Street duplex he’s lived in since 2010. The move comes after he received notice of a significant rent increase from the building’s new owner, who argues that the unit is not his primary residence. Jones denies that is the case, but has decided he does not have the stamina to fight what would likely be a protracted legal battle to remain there.

For those familiar with San Francisco’s often volatile real estate and rental issues, the dispute between Jones and his new landlord is probably not surprising. What is unusual in this case is the high profile of the tenant in question.

The new owner of the duplex is San Francisco resident Lily Pao Kue, 30. Zillow shows that she purchased the property on Feb. 18 for $1,585,000. Since making the purchase, Kue has initiated some construction work on the building, installed new security cameras, had a car belonging to Jones’ friend and roommate towed from in front of the property, and notified Jones that she planned to more than double the rent .

Jones showed The Chronicle a letter he received from Kue on March 18 informing him that she had determined he had vacated the unit and was invoking a Costa-Hawkins petition, which would allow her to raise the rent from $2,393 to $5,200 as of July 1. Costa-Hawkins is a state law that sets some requirements for cities with rent control, including allowing a landlord to raise rent to market rate once a tenant moves out.

Kue says that she is seeking a hearing on her petition with the San Francisco Rent Board, but is waiting for a staff member to be assigned to the case.

“I want Cleve to continue the tenancy and let the judge determine the petition,” Kue said in an email. “I will be gracious and accepting of law.”

The San Francisco Rent Board did not immediately respond to questions about the case.

Experts say there are a few ways to prove residency in a property. According to Janan New, the executive director of the San Francisco Apartment Association, a driver’s license address and utility bills are among the documents that can be used as proof. The San Francisco Tenants Union also lists numerous factors, including the presence of personal possessions and that the tenant resides there except for “reasonable temporary periods of absence.” Jones said he believes he meets these requirements.

Jones said he feels that he and his roommate, Brenden Chadwick, have been harassed by Kue, citing her towing away Chadwick’s car without notice and installing the security cameras that allow her to monitor their comings and goings. He also is concerned that the construction work on the property could endanger archival materials from the LGBTQ movement he has kept there. She denies that she has harassed Jones and Chadwick.

Kue, who described herself as a stock market investor who previously worked as a janitor and as a farm laborer after immigrating to the United States from Thailand, calls the duplex her “dream home.” She said that since the dispute over the duplex became public, she is worried about harassment from Jones’ social media followers. She said she has filed a police report after comments she’s seen in response to Jones’ post about the situation on Facebook.

Rather than further contest Kue’s plans, though, Jones and Chadwick plan to move out this weekend and look for a new home in the Castro, which means they would lose any potential relocation payments if Kue were to lose her Costa-Hawkins petition and choose to pursue eviction.

“If I were a younger man, I would fill the sandbags and I’d batten down the hatches and would drag this out for as long as possible,” Jones said. “Part of me feels quite guilty that I don’t have it in me to do it. I am not in good health, I’m HIV-positive and one of the longest-living HIV survivors. … and I’m old.”

Still, Jones is not going quietly. On Sunday, supporters of Jones plan to take part in a rally at 11 am at Harvey Milk Plaza focusing on his situation and similar issues facing other renters in the neighborhood. A 2021 story in The Chronicle reported that since 2009, there have been 614 no-fault evictions in District Eight, where the Castro is located, and that most are either because of owner move-ins or Ellis Act evictions, where the owner decides to stop renting altogether.

While Jones said he expects to survive financially, “It is very clear how an event like this could be truly catastrophic for so many others.”

“Cleve recognizes that this is happening and has happened to so many other folks,” said District Eight Supervisor Rafael Mandelman, who will be at the rally. “But he is such an iconic figure and so associated with that neighborhood. It’s heartbreaking.”

Tina Aguirre, the Castro LGBTQ Cultural District manager, told The Chronicle that housing security in the neighborhood is especially important for older residents and people living with HIV, and that the district is “saddened” by what Jones is experiencing.

“The fact that he is a community icon, organizer, and AIDS activist underscores that this can happen to any of us,” Aguirre said.

Kue said that she installed security cameras on the property to monitor construction workers. But in checking the comings and goings from the building, and seeing that many of Jones’ posts on Facebook indicated that he had been staying in Guerneville, she said she determined that the unit on 18th Street was not his primary address, and that there was “overwhelming proof” that Chadwick was living there alone.

Jones said he was told by Kue that she planned to move into the vacant unit above his after construction on the property was completed, and that she planned to move her mother and grandmother into the unit he and Chadwick occupied.

Jones said Kue began discussing buyout options with him, but said she did not want to involve attorneys. Kue said she still does not have an attorney representing her. Jones, though, hired Dave Crow of the tenants rights firm Crow & Rose.

Crow said he believes the rent increase notice was not legal because Jones had not moved out of the property.

Jones denies that he ever vacated his unit, but says that, for his health, he has spent time during the two years of the pandemic at a “fairly primitive” cabin he owns in Guerneville.

“When COVID happened, of course, that became my refuge,” Jones said of the cabin. “I’m 67, I’m immunocompromised. So I’m guessing that that’s her reference to me vacating the unit. But of course it’s a lie. I never vacated. I never moved my stuff out and continued to spend time there.”

Among that “stuff,” Jones said, are materials from the LGBTQ movement going back to the 1970s, including Milk’s famous bullhorn, the quilt his great-grandmother made that inspired the creation of the Names Project AIDS Memorial Quilt, and items connected to the filming of the 2008 biopic “Milk,” in which Jones was a central character.

To protect them from possible damage, Jones has given the National AIDS Memorial some of the materials related to the Names Project while the GLBT Historical Society Museum now has Milk’s bullhorn.

“My office is right there on Castro Street, my doctor is right there on Castro Street. The hospital is right down the street. … Guerneville is lovely, but it doesn’t have the kind of specialized health care that’s necessary for people in my circumstance.”

Jones said he needs to remain in the city for his work as a community and political coordinator at Unite Here, the North American Hospitality Workers Union.

Jones said he, like many longtime survivors of HIV, cannot afford to retire because many of his potential earning years were spent battling serious health complications from the virus instead of working.

Still, Jones said he’s turned down requests to create crowdfunding campaigns to assist him. He said he’s also received offers of legal help and housing, but has not felt at risk enough to accept help that others in the community likely need more.

“I’m going to be just fine, but she’s going to do this to someone else,” Jones said. “This old gay guy is being forced out of his home, but the real issue is one more gay elder has been lost and one more rental unit has been lost.”

John Oliver and Last Week Tonight returned from vacation to take on one of the loudest members of the conspiracy theory media – Alex Jones.

Most of us understand that Alex Jones – who shouts that tap water makes everyone gay and claims that the Sandy Hook massacre was orchestrated by the US government – is spreading unadulterated nonsense. In fact, according to Oliver, “the first thing you should know about the Alex Jones Show is ideally nothing”. Or, as John Oliver Jones colorfully described, he is “the Walter Cronkite of the screeching bats *** gorilla clowns”.

Why is John Oliver talking about this man?

It actually doesn’t have much to do with the fact that Trump is apparently a fan, nor does it have to do with the time Jones called Last Week Tonight on his own show InfoWars. Incidentally, that appeal included a sneaky compliment on Oliver’s presumably intellectual British accent. Wrong, said Oliver: “I sound like a chimney sweep going through a wood chopper.”

Joking aside, however, there are some serious problems with Jones’ show InfoWars. There’s the frankly horrific speculation about the Sandy Hook massacre, not to mention a cornucopia of paranoia, barely veiled homophobia, and Jones yelling about Satanists. Jones also promoted the “Pizzagate” conspiracy theory, which resulted in an actual gunman threatening innocent people in a Washington, DC pizza restaurant.

InfoWars’ source of income

However, “there is a context that you may be less aware of”: the show itself and Jones’ special way of making money. It takes four hours and Jones is always sending products on the air. In fact, Jones spent almost a quarter of the time selling InfoWars on their website. Including wet wipes, herbal shampoo and a “Bill Clinton Rape Whistle”, which is nothing more than a pipe on a lanyard for 6.00 US dollars.

Also, Jones’s store sells some high-priced wet wipes that awkwardly assure you that they are safe to use on the dam. This also means, by the way, that in Last Week Tonight you get a pretty straightforward illustration of what a perineum is.

Apart from that (and if you metaphorically wipe the image of a perineum out of your head), about two-thirds of the revenue from the InfoWars shop comes from a variety of high-priced vitamins and “nutriceutics”. These include products called Child Ease, Brain Force Plus, and DNA Force, the last of which is $ 120.00 per bottle. There is also a “Caveman True Paleo Formula,” which contains ground chicken bones and chocolate powder. Alex Jones claimed that “the ancients had better bones” for shilling the caveman formula.

John Oliver had a glass on the show and gave it a, say, bad review. “It’s coming at you in waves,” he said.

Jones now employs a consultant to support these products, a Dr. Edward Group III. Group claims that “I do research all the time” to bolster its credentials, and also says refugees spread disease – which, of course, means you should buy a supposedly immune-boosting dietary supplement.

Unfortunately, Group isn’t exactly an accredited doctor. Group graduated from Texas Chiropractic College with a degree in chiropractic. However, he did not graduate from a bachelor’s degree and only completed a non-degree certificate program from MIT. In fact, Last Week Tonight contacted MIT about the group’s participation there. In response, MIT said that “it is incorrect to say he graduated from MIT” and that it would be “imprecise and misleading to call him an alumni”.

Well, all of these things aren’t cheap even if you can get them for a much lower price elsewhere. Jones justifies this by saying things like “you absorb it more” and that cheaper competition “will kill you.”

What is Jones doing with all that money?

By the way, where does all the money go? Alex Jones claims all of the revenue goes into his show. Not to mention, it takes approximately $ 45 million to run the show, which is itself subject to “massive, ongoing economic attack”. He also asks viewers to “give me the energy and I will attack the enemy”.

Jones makes it sound like InfoWars is constantly on the verge of closing. However, ex-employees say his business is thriving. Jones seems to be particularly fond of Rolexes, of which Oliver counted at least three individual pieces. Which is fine on its own but doesn’t go well with its message of scrap and fight.

Jones awkwardly argued that he was disguising himself as a Rolex-adorned Satanist to … uh … show the world that … uh, “none of this means anything.” Well saved there. Even so, Jones should have to work so hard to prove his point. According to Oliver, “torturing Sandy Hook’s parents should get you comfortably into Satan’s club.”

So, “when you play [the clips] In context, “Oliver said of Alex Jones,” he looks like a seasoned salesman … selling you an answer. “As a particularly illustrative example, Oliver played a clip in which Jones claims that there are chemicals in the water, all of them feminize and lower fertility rates. Then he turns around and happens to be selling a bunch of expensive water filters.

Next: John Oliver takes over local television

Oliver then brought in Jack McBrayer as “Dr. Ted Throup III ”to sell the John Oliver Moisture-Armored Tactical Assault Wipe exclusively for the dam. “For God’s sake, don’t use this anywhere else.”

Fortunately, you can actually purchase these things from infowipes.com for $ 1,000,000. Incidentally, this amount goes entirely to Doctors Without Borders. Could it be worth the cost? According to “Dr. Ted Throup ”, the other towels will kill you while these“ frogs can heterosexualize ”. Thank god, we guess.

The San Francisco 49ers were against Julio Jones before Sunday’s blockbuster deal that sent him from the Atlanta Falcons to the Tennessee Titans.

It made sense since Jones’ previous relationship with 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan went back to their days together in Atlanta. The 49ers’ questionable wide receiver situation behind Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel added another layer.

Whatever the reason, San Francisco couldn’t close the deal. Instead, the Titans grabbed Jones for a second and fourth round to team up with stud receiver AJ Brown for quarterback Ryan Tannehill. That’s a solid number for a seven-time Pro Bowl recipient who has still proven to be dominant on the field.

Meanwhile, Falcons new general manager Terry Fontenot was able to get value for the high-priced seasoned receiver while cutting a ton of salary. It can be argued that both the Titans and the Hawks were winners here. The San Francisco 49ers? Not as much. Here are three reasons for that.

The San Francisco 49ers still can’t close the deal with a wide receiver

Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

I get it. The 49ers have had great success in recent drafts with both Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk. That’s all well and good. However, the team’s inability to land a proven # 1 recipient for head coach Kyle Shanahan is a bit of a concern. In 2019, San Francisco felt like it had the best deal on the table for then New York Giants recipient Odell Beckham Jr. before it was dealt to the Cleveland Browns. Reports have since surfaced suggesting that Giants general manager David Gettleman did not want to trade OBJ with an NFC rival. It’s hard to blame the 49ers for that.

Other than that, it’s just a continuation of the struggles the 49ers had to land proven recipients through either the free agency or the commercial market. In March, San Francisco hadn’t even got its feet wet when it came to top-end receivers on the open market. These included Corey Davis, Kenny Golladay, and Curtis Samuel – the latter would have fitted very nicely in the slot. In 2020, San Francisco refused to sign Emmanuel Sanders again and did not bid for another slot type in Robby Anderson.

On the way to the training camp, there will be an open competition for the wide receiver spot No. 3 and the top slot position in Santa Clara. This includes former third-round pick Jalen Hurd, who missed his first two NFL seasons due to injury. It also contains veteran cstoffs like Mohamed Sanu and Bennie Fowler. This could be the doom of the 49ers in 2021.

About the “aggressive” nature of the San Francisco 49ers

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

General Manager John Lynch and Co. shocked the football world at the start of this off-season by breaking the 12th. This was the culmination of an aggressive tenure for Lynch in San Francisco.

The 49ers built a championship caliber roster by trading with the likes of Jimmy Garoppolo, Laken Tomlinson, Trent Williams, Dee Ford, and the aforementioned Sanders. While this had consequences for both the salary cap and the draft, these deals also worked for the most part.

Sure, the 49ers are limited when it comes to draft picks to offer in blockbuster trades after moving two future first rounds and a 2022 third round into the Lance blockbuster. That’s all well and good. However, it must be possible to strike a balance between winning now and preparing for the future. A second-round pick and a mid-round pick wouldn’t have handcuffed the 49ers too much. It would have made their offensive pretty unstoppable too.

The NFL salary cap is an invention of our imagination

09/20/2020; East Rutherford, New Jersey, USA; San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch (left) shakes hands with head coach Kyle Shanahan after beating the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium.
That might sound a bit hyperbolic. But check out what the Titans did to get Julio Jones. Tennessee was about $ 2 million under the ceiling before earning the future Hall of Fame recipient. The 49ers? They are currently at $ 17.36 million below the cap.

Of course, every team has different situations on their squad. For the 49ers, this includes the need to sign all-pro linebacker Fred Warner for a massive contract extension this off-season. With that in mind, San Francisco is sitting back and ready to pay Garoppolo $ 26.38 million against the cap, even after adding his eventual heir. The 49ers could also have created more wiggle room by adding Laken Tomlinson and Jimmie Ward, two players who fit into their long-term futures.

What does it all mean? The NFL salary cap for 2022 could climb to $ 208.2 million after a sharp drop in the coming season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It will skyrocket in 2023 when the NFL’s new television deal comes into play. With a salary cap guru in President Paraag Marathe, the San Francisco 49ers could have done this job very well. Unfortunately, they couldn’t close the deal. This could have a big impact on San Francisco’s status as the top-end title contender in 2021 after an injury-ridden campaign in 2020.

All of this makes the San Francisco 49ers the biggest loser when it comes to Sunday blockbuster Julio Jones against the Tennessee Titans.

Several teams are in the mix to land receiver Julio Jones of the Atlanta Falcons, who said last week he wanted a fresh start before the 2021 season. The Tennessee Titans reportedly emerged as favorites to take the All-Pro pass catcher land, but ESPN-NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler said another team is on the verge of a final deal.

“From what I hear, something could go wrong on Wednesday,” Fowler said on ESPN’s Get Up. “The team I hear most of all are the San Francisco 49ers. They have a cap of $ 20 million. They hear Titans, Aries, and Seahawks. A sleeper here is the Baltimore Ravens, too, and I was told that they are ready to get involved when it is at the right price. “

The right price is the all-important question here, as the Hawks have reportedly requested a first-round pick for Jones. The Hawks can save $ 15 million by trading the superstar after June 1. This could get them back the funds they need to sign the 2021 NFL Draft Class and potentially sign additional veteran aid.

New general manager Terry Fontenot said ahead of the 2021 NFL draft that they have made offers. When Jones is traded, he wants to make sure it’s best for the team.

“Obviously we value this particular player very much,” Fontenot told local Atlanta television station FOX 5. “He is special, what he has done and what he continues to do here.” But we have to consider all the players if it is right for the team because we have to do what is best for this organization. “

What Atlanta can get in return will ultimately determine whether a deal is closed.

“The Hawks are aiming for a first round selection, but it’s not a slam dunk that they get it,” said Fowler. “The team could ask one (trading partner) to provide some of those $ 15 million guarantees. You need to find a sweet spot to get this to work. It’s an arms race in NFC West and they must do everything possible to bring the best player into position. “

Dominique Foxworth believes the 49ers are the best fit for Jones.

“You have a group of very good recipients, But they have no one as great as Julio Jones, ”said Foxworth on Monday. “It takes this offense to another level with someone on the fringes like Julio Jones. Julio is pretty comfortable with Kyle Shanahan. Julio would be.” in a great situation because he wouldn’t have to lay the offense on his back. “

The San Francisco 49ers must find a way to get Julio Jones.

With the loss of Kendrick Bourne to the free agency, the 49ers wide reception room in Santa Clara currently consists of Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel and 10 other players. Of the 10 other players, only two – Mohamed Sanu and Richie James Jr. – have been somewhat productive in the past two seasons. In total, the group of 10 teamed up for 1,661 yards and five touchdowns at 151 receptions.

By comparison, Julio Jones has 2,165 yards and nine touchdowns from 150 receptions in the same two seasons.

According to reports, the Hawks were initially looking for a first-round draft pick in exchange for Jones but would now be ready to move the veteran receiver for a second-round pick.

The 49ers don’t have a first-round pick in the next two drafts as part of the cost of the rise and draft of Trey Lance, but that shouldn’t stop them from offering Atlanta their second-round pick and the deal with them in 2022 to sweeten the balance for the third round in the 2023 draft. There is no player the 49ers could take at the end of the second round that could give them the productivity they would get from Jones, a future Hall of Famer.

The addition of Jones could help the 49ers meet two of the biggest needs in their passing game: a downfield threat to Brandon Aiyuk and the third receiver.

With Jones on the roster, the 49ers could put Deebo Samuel in the role of third-wide receiver. This move would allow Samuel to still distinguish himself as the gadget player he has been so effective with since joining the 49ers as the second round selection in the 2019 draft. Samuel is the size and tracking ability Kyle Shanahan has been looking for. With no other sane player of this type of roster, Samuel’s move to that role could make the 49ers’ offensive more explosive than during a run to the Super Bowl in 2019, when they ended up with the second highest percentage of explosive games on the NFL.

  Getty Images

On the surface, the idea of a team like the San Francisco 49ers hitting a $ 15.3 million salary cap this late in the off-season makes little sense. It is not sensible.

It’s also not reasonable to believe that anyone of Julio Jones’ broad receiver is usually available this late in the off-season. However, it will most likely be on June 1st.

According to Jeff Schultz of The Athletic, the Atlanta Falcons are under the guise of getting the seven-time Pro Bowl wide receiver to fix their problems with the salary cap.

“Jones’ availability in the trading market was almost clear when new general manager Terry Fontenot and coach Arthur Smith landed in Atlanta and realized the magnitude of the team’s salary cap issues,” noted Schultz. “Anyone who is likely to deny this is doing so out of sheer fandom.”

Unsurprisingly, Schultz listed San Francisco as one of the five teams that make sense to Julio Jones. It’s something that has been discussed on an endless loop for the past few weeks.

The fit is obvious. The 49ers need another proven wide receiver for Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel. In this scenario, Samuel would likely switch to the slot, with Aiyuk starting from outside against Jones. In the presence of all-pro tight end, add George Kittle and that’s an elite skill position group for Trey Lance or Jimmy Garoppolo in the middle.

MORE FROM FORBESPredicting the list of San Francisco 49ers under the 2021 NFL draftBy Vincent Frank

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, who worked with Jones in Atlanta from 2015-2016, appears open to the option of earning the future Hall of Fame recipient.

“Julio Jones, for everyone, especially if you’ve had the chance to coach him, he’s what you say and more,” Shanahan, former NFL player Michael Irvin, said on a recent podcast. “I mean, the guy is unique. It makes coaching much – much – easier. Therefore, Julio feels the same for everyone. So I’m not worried about saying that. As is well known. Everyone knows that Julio is on another level. That’s why he’s a special guy. “

In her two-year stint with Atlanta when Shanahan Jones was offensive coordinator, the broad receiver garnered 219 receptions for 3,280 yards. Shanahan has looked after his former recipient since taking the 49ers’ job in 2017.

These are the acquaintances. Jones is a great fit. He has a relationship with Shanahan. He can still produce at a high level if he is healthy. It is the unknowns that add more layers to the story. You could also complicate matters when it comes to a possible Julio Jones deal with the 49ers.

San Francisco 49ers Draft Pick Restrictions

Trading with Trey Lance limits the 49ers offering in a Julio Jones deal. (Photo by Michael … [+] Zagaris / San Francisco 49ers / Getty Images)

  Getty Images

With the rise from the 12th choice in the NFL Draft 2021 to third overall for Trey Lance, San Francisco pretty much sold its soul to the “devil”. This included sending picks to the Miami Dolphins for the first round in 2021 and 2022, as well as choosing the equalizer selection for the third round next year.

At 32 years old and an injury-ridden 2020 campaign in which he missed seven games due to injury, Jones is unlikely to need a selection in the first round of a trade. If another team offers this in a shocking way, San Francisco is immediately out of the competition. At the moment it can be assumed that this is not the case.

Instead, the Hawks are likely looking for a second-round pick for the Veteran Recipient. This is reasonably a price the 49ers could meet. Sure, it would get them out of the first two rounds of the NFL draft next year, but Jones’ short-term presence on a Super Bowl-competing team would be far more impactful than what the 49ers are hoping for a late second round selection in 2022 .

Julio Jones’ Contract, San Francisco 49ers Salary Cap Situation

The San Francisco 49ers have to imprison Fred Warner. (Photo by Ralph Freso / Getty Images)

  Getty Images

San Francisco currently has a cap space of $ 17.6 million, a number that will be brought down to around $ 11.5 million according to the rookie-class total characters. Jones is currently expected to offset $ 15.3 million against the cap for an assuming team.

The math doesn’t seem to work here, does it? Not correct! There are ways to navigate through these. Obviously, the best financial scenario would be to trade Garoppolo, which would create a cap space of $ 23.6 million. Given the 49ers’ stance on their starting quarterback since Lance was drafted, this seems like a highly unlikely scenario.

Rather, the 49ers are telling Atlanta to raise roughly $ 5 million from this $ 15.3 million cap hit – in exchange for another mid-round selection. From a purely financial perspective, this would work. This wouldn’t affect the Falcons’ long-term health either, which is one of the reasons Jones is on the block in the first place.

From the perspective of the 49ers, this would create the need for cap gymnastics for team president Paraag Marathe. He has been able to navigate these topics in the past and most recently helped San Francisco put together a surprisingly effective time for freelance agencies.

The background to this is the need to sign all-pro linebacker Fred Warner for an extension before he joins the free agency next March. San Francisco won’t be bringing the BYU product to the open market, but if Warner goes under the franchise label in 2022, it would hurt the health of the 49ers in terms of the salary cap going forward. The cap hit would likely be $ 16 million in this scenario.

Would a deal with Jones put an end to Warner’s extension talks? I’m not sure. In fact, security guard Laken Tomlinson and security officer Jimmie Ward’s signing for extensions would lower their caps for 2021. Both have been absolutely great over the past few seasons and fit into the long-term future of the 49ers.

According to Over the Cap, these two steps would save about $ 9 million in space. If necessary, restructuring the contract with defense attorney Arik Armstead would save an additional $ 4.6 million. The moral of this story? By definition, the NFL only exists under a “hard cap”. This cap will never be a disadvantage when it comes to making a blockbuster trade. With Marathe as a guru in this regard, the 49ers are no different.

Yes, Julio Jones to the San Francisco 49ers makes sense

Julio Jones to the San Francisco 49ers could actually happen. (Photo by Kevin C. Cox / Getty Images)

  Getty Images

Here are a few other obstacles to overcome. Would Atlanta want to take Jones to a conference rival? Will other teams offer more than the 49ers could possibly send to the Hawks? These are two big questions.

Even so, Jones has played selflessly with the Falcons in a brilliant 10-year career. Given his MO, I can’t see the esteemed owner Arthur Blank not instructing his new front office to work with Jones on potential targets. Pure guesswork here, but there seem to be very few who fit better for the future first choice Hall of Famer than with his former offensive coordinator in San Francisco.

Some may push back realizing that this is a short-term move based on the Super Bowl competition in 2021 after the 49ers sold their future to a quarterback who is unlikely to lead them into the competition this season. It’s good.

What we do know is that in a successful off-season, San Francisco struck a balance between competing in the future and returning to championship competition status in the short term. Adding Jones to the mix would be part of that fortunate medium that General Manager John Lynch and Co. have found.

From a purely football standpoint, the addition of Jones would create inconsistencies up and down the field. Imagine how dynamic a healthy Jones would work with Aiyuk, Samuel and Kittle. Add a loaded backfield and a vastly improved offensive line and that gets enlarged even further.

MORE FROM FORBES4 Remaining Priorities for the San Francisco 49ers During the NFL Off-SeasonBy Vincent Frank

If Jimmy Garoppolo is in the spotlight, he would have no excuses. Should the Super Bowl quarterback struggle in a technically contract year, any interest in him as a starter for the next off-season would be thrown out the window. Should he excel, as we saw in 2019, Garoppolo would have a choice when it comes to potential targets in a business.

Should Lance somehow beat Garoppolo for the starting job, there is no better way to help him in 2021 than to add one of the greatest recipients in modern NFL history. Jones, who is under contract through the 2023 season, would also have a long-term impact on Lance’s ability to make the transition from a small school college ball to the pros.

It’s always fun to throw away blockbuster trading scenarios and see if they stick around. The reality is that these blockbusters rarely work in real life. For now, Julio Jones of the San Francisco 49ers could be an exception to this rule.

John Oliver took action against Alex Jones, the “Walter Cronkite of … Gorilla Clowns”, on Sunday last week tonight.

The charismatic performer, who is regularly charged, is an important part of many people’s media nutrition, noted Oliver. Almost 6 million people listen to his radio broadcast or watch it online every week. His influential fans include “Russian Ambassador to the United States, Donald Trump,” who tweeted Jones’ claims and was on his program at least once.

Oliver had previously talked about Jones on his first show this season, and Jones seemed a little upset – that is, he was excited and responded happily. Jones dismissed Oliver’s HBO show, said their reviews were “in the bathroom” and suggested he got his performance because “everyone knows a British accent sounds intellectual,” adding, “Hey boy that one People want legitimacy. They want real people who can talk to them and touch them inside. “

“Last Week Tonight”: John Oliver, exhausted from so much bad news recently, talks about missing Bunny and Usher dollars

Oliver replied Sunday night and said to Jones, “Don’t call me ‘boy’ and insist his British accent” sound like a chimney sweep going through a wood chopper. “

Jones’ shtick includes allegations that Sandy Hook slaughtered elementary school children and that some school workers were orchestrated by the government in what, Oliver noted, “deeply harms the families of the victims, is disgusting and should be disqualified from ever taking him seriously. ”

“Unfortunately, doing things that keep you from being taken seriously doesn’t seem like a big deal anymore,” noted Oliver when a photo of Trump’s inauguration surfaced on screen.

During his four-hour program, Jones frequently introduces products that he sells. Oliver spent a week watching InfoWars and watching Jones spend a quarter of his time – an hour – talking about products he was selling, placing ads, or directing listeners to his InfoWars online store, where You can buy survival gear, organic shampoo and body wash and Clinton Rape Whistle, “To let Bill know that you are in the crowd and that you know the truth,” said Oliver, the pitch promised. It comes with a free bumper sticker “9/11 Was an Inside Job” that Oliver discovered when he bought the pipe.

Since 2013, Jones’ program has increasingly focused on clogging its own products, vitamins and so-called “nutraceuticals”. Two-thirds of his funds come from the sale of these products, including “Super Male Vitality” potions, a “caveman” drink that combines chocolate and “domesticated bird bodies”, and another drink that Oliver guarantees “the mind and body.” soothed by children “said exactly, sounded very creepy.

Oliver mentioned Jones’ recent controversial interview in Megyn Kelly’s NBC Sunday Newsmag, which Jones renamed Megyn Kelly to Rationalizing Low Ratings. In that interview, Jones insisted that it costs $ 45-50 million to keep InfoWars up and running, and that whatever he does, he plows back on the show. Jones likes to tell his followers that he needs immediate financial support from viewers / listeners and asks them to “fund” his show through his products – like “an NPR pledge to people who hate NPR,” sniffed Oliver.

If you watch the program regularly, you will find that Jones wears several Rolex watches and expensive sports coats. Jones felt compelled to explain, noted Oliver and told the followers, “I dress as a Satanist so that I can enter this world and show you that none of this means anything.”

“Torturing Sandy Hook’s parents should get you to the Satanic Club in comfort,” without the need to buy a Rolex, let alone several of them, Oliver insisted.

Let our journalists help you understand the noise: subscribe to the Mother Jones Daily newsletter and receive a summary of the most important news.

More than 700 San Francisco janitors represented by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) quit their jobs yesterday morning and launched a three-day strike for improved COVID protection and working conditions after months of contract negotiations collapsed.

Hundreds of workers waved protest signs and sang in front of the Salesforce Tower – Salesforce chairman, CEO and billionaire Marc Benioff’s passion for skyline capping – in San Francisco’s high-dollar SoMA district, home to the offices of Silicon Valley giants Amazon, Airbnb and Facebook are located, Google and Twitter. The companies enter into contracts with custodians through facility management companies such as ABM and Able Services.

“These buildings won’t be safe until the janitors have a fair contract,” Olga Miranda, a striking janitor, told local CBS subsidiary KPIX – and if the janitors aren’t sure, Miranda said, “others will definitely not be safe be.”

“Strike”
Hundreds of SF caretakers are on STRIKE today.
The caretakers – mainly women, colored people and migrant workers – fight for a fair trade union contract with protection from sexual harassment and security measures!
Boost @Ableserve & @ABM_Industries #JusticeForJanitors pic.twitter.com/KR8bGd0P4A

– Justice for Janitor (@JusticeforJans) March 24, 2021

Since the pandemic began, over 3,000 caretakers, mostly black migrants, have been laid off and at least 26 workers have died of COVID-19, according to SEIU Local 87 members. With their eight-month struggle for a new contract at a dead end, the union janitors are demanding not only better ventilation and protective equipment, but also a raise in salaries, health insurance coverage, improved sick pay and protection from sexual harassment in the workplace.

When the pandemic hit in March last year, the precarious conditions for low-wage workers were exposed – and a series of strikes sparked, which led the calls related to COVID to a wider struggle for improved working conditions. All over the west coast similarly endangered farm workers Strikes – with and without the support of the trade unions – not only because of insufficient cover-ups of PPE and COVID, but also because of wage cuts and insufficient sick pay during the pandemic. As my colleague Julia Lurie reported in December:

When some pickers and packers hit this breaking point, there were COVID-related slips on the west coast … Hundreds of fruit packers in the Yakima Valley in Washington left production lines to protest a lack of safety and hazard payments. In Santa Maria, California, strawberry pickers left work to protest falling wages, just as many families were particularly financially stricken. Blueberry pickers near Fresno also encountered a wage cut and stood beside the red and black waving fields [United Farm Workers] Flags.

As in San Francisco, these strikes were not limited to masks and hand sanitizer. Workers who have mobilized over imminent threats to their health and safety have expanded their demands to include working conditions exacerbated by the pandemic – particularly in Bessemer, Alabama, where Amazon warehouse workers are casting their final votes in the most serious attempt to date, the company to merge into trade union organizations. (Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, saw his net worth grow by $ 58 billion during the pandemic.)

These efforts were supported by, among others, President Joe Biden and former Labor Secretary Robert Reich. And, according to Gallup, two-thirds of Americans are in favor of unions – their best poll in more than a decade.

STRIKE ALERT

26 caretakers have died of # COVID19 in San Francisco. We’re in the pandemic for a year – but janitors still don’t have the PPE and ventilation they need.

As SF moves to the orange plane today, @ SEIU87’s janitors have started a ULP strike to demand safety at work. # 1u pic.twitter.com/3IqeDKgaXO

– UNITE HERE Local 2 #PROAct (@ UniteHereLocal2) March 24, 2021

Caretaker strikes across town are not new. In 2018, SEIU 87 caretakers struck outside the offices of troubled cooperating startup WeWork with a mariachi band playing in support. In 2019, the union fought for a fairer contract on the steps of the fitness company Equinox, both times drawing attention to the divide between the treatment of higher-level employees by startups and their essential employees. Elsewhere, the union is fighting for more than 10,000 airport workers pushing for health care in New York and New Jersey, as well as immigrant domestic workers struggling for permanent residence.

“I deserve to feel safe at work,” said Ramiro, another caretaker for the SEIU, during the strike. “But almost a year after the pandemic, and we’re still collecting trash without masks or hand sanitizer.”
