An “intense and quick-moving” snowstorm struck portions of the Sierra Nevada and southern Cascades on Saturday, with weather officials warning travelers to avoid mountain travel through Sunday morning.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for the particularly conditions expected to pelt the mountain areas of the Sierra Nevada with up to 2 feet of snow at its highest peaks.

“It’ll become very difficult for Caltrans or any of the highway departments to clear the roads,” said Jeffrey Wood, meteorologist for the National Weather Service. “And with that heavy snowfall rate, you can experience near-whiteout conditions.”

Heavy snowfall accumulations were expected in Mount Shasta City, Dunsmuir, Donner Pass and Truckee, according to forecasts from the National Weather Service. Donner Summit should accumulate up to 2 feet of snow.

The heaviest of the snow pelts were felt Saturday morning into the afternoon, Wood said. Snowfall rates could reach up to 2 inches per hour.

“Typical snowstorms (are) a half an inch or an inch per hour,” Wood said. “Anytime we start to see snowfall rates greater than an inch is when we start seeing the real impactful conditions, particularly on roadways.”

Blizzard-like conditions were possible along Interstate 80 continuing into the evening. Gusty winds of up to 50 mph could snap tree limbs, cause power outages and lead to whiteout conditions. The California Highway Patrol enacted chain requirements for vehicles on I-80 over Donner Summit from Truckee to Eagle Lake late Saturday morning and reported spinouts and collisions by the afternoon.

Authorities shut down a portion of westbound I-80 in Truckee for just under two hours Saturday afternoon after multiple cars spun out on the road, according to the California Highway Patrol. Officials from Truckee Meadows Fires and Rescue said they had responded to several motor vehicle accidents on the road by Saturday night. The agency warned residents not to travel unless necessary due to the heavy snow conditions.

With this update we feel like Chicken Little.

Trump Tower was blown to pieces on Tuesday, March 14th.

A video shared by TikTok users, Dronekoa caught parts of the tower breaking off and falling onto the street after high winds hit San Francisco.

“The Trump building is falling apart,” he wrote over the video.

The intense clip caught the TikTok user filming from a building next to Trump Tower as the glass windows began to shatter and fell into the streets of the city’s financial district.

“It’s glass,” said a man filming behind the camera. “Oh my god, it’s cracking! More is falling,” he said while filming a piece of glass that looked like it was headed straight for him.

“Be careful, be careful. Back, back,” he said, walking away from the window when the glass seemed to come towards the window he was looking out of.

See the original article to view embedded media.

The TikTok user titled the video “San Francisco Wind Breaking Windows”.

The video was then cut to the TikTok user in the street as firefighters attempted to bring the situation under control.

“that’s scary imagine a piece of glass flying in your face at that speed!!!” A user wrote in the comments.

“Do you ever feel like a piece of glass floating in the wind,” quipped another user, referring to lyrics by Katy Perrys Hit song “Fireworks”.

“I grew up watching Final Destination movies. This is traumatizing lol ,” added a third user.

According to ABC7 News, a local news station in San Francisco, firefighters have reported that a 43rd-story window is completely shattered, while another window is cracked.

“There’s no way to tell if a rock or object hit the window, but we’ve heard reports from people who’ve seen things flying through San Francisco.” Captain Jonathan Baxter This was announced by the San Francisco Fire Department.

Fortunately, no one was injured, but emergency services took extra precautions and closed all surrounding streets in case more glass fell from the building.

SAN MATEO (CBS SF) – A band of intense rains rolled across the San Francisco peninsula Wednesday morning, triggering a National Weather Service flood alert as runoff from the saturated hills jammed into streets and flowed into creeks and creeks.

Forecasters said the recommendation would stay in place until at least 1 p.m.

“At 9:55 am, the Doppler radar showed heavy rain moving in the direction of the San Mateo Coast,” the weather service said in its statement. “This will lead to flooding in cities and small streams.”

Some places flooding will occur, forecasters said, including San Francisco, Daly City, San Mateo, Redwood City, South San Francisco, San Bruno, Pacifica, Burlingame, Half Moon Bay, and Hillsborough.

Sudden floods have already proven fatal during the current storm.

The San Mateo County coroner office on Monday identified the couple who were found dead in a flooded vehicle in a flooded underpass in Millbrae during last week’s storm.

The coroner’s office said the victims were 63-year-old Rolando Ortigas Glorioso and 62-year-old Susana Glorioso, both from Millbrae.

The authorities also confirmed that the couple were married. The couple tragically died last Thursday in floods during the storm that flooded the Bay Area with rain.

A spokesman for the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said firefighters had to respond to reports of flooding on Hemlock Ave at around 5:45 a.m. and E. Hillcrest Blvd. reacted. in Millbrae, where E. Hillcrest goes under Caltrain Railway.

“Upon arrival, they noticed a person standing on the roof of a vehicle. The fire brigade got into the water to save the person in the vehicle. They discovered that there was a second vehicle in the water, ”said Detective Javier Acosta of the sheriff. “When they rescued the first person, they tried to gain access to the vehicle in the water. However, the conditions changed quickly and it became too dangerous for the emergency services. The water rose very quickly and they had to withdraw. “

SAN JOSE (KPIX 5) – It’s never a good day when you can actually see the air you breathe.

The sky over the Bay Area on Tuesday was a variety of shades of gray and orange, a combination of smoke from all fires and overcast skies. The hot, sultry gray-orange is the official color of 2020.

“It’s a very strange day,” said Lynn Sanchez of Walnut Creek. “It’s hot, it’s humid, we’re ready for autumn. We want to see some sunshine, we want to see the sky, and that just wasn’t possible. “

When we went to the shitty air on Week 4, it was time to check out the brand new air filter I had installed in our HVAC system on Aug 19th when the fires started. Three weeks later, the bright white filter had turned a dingy gray.

Most of the fine dust particles in the air were high in the atmosphere on Tuesday, at least in the early hours of the morning. Before lunch, San Jose had a decent AQI of 59. But by 2pm it was up to 152.

On Tuesday we found people on Communication Hill in San Jose who were exercising outdoors despite the bad air. Residents Stacy Ramsey and Gabriel Fernandez said they just had to find a way out.

“Especially after I’ve been in quarantine the whole time,” Ramsey said. “Being in a house all the time is depressing.”

For asthmatic Timothy Gutierrez, these days are difficult because he doesn’t have air conditioning at home and literally has to vacuum it.

“If it gets too hot, I just open the window,” says Gutierrez. “About a week and a half ago, when it got really bad, I just had to hold on.”
