SAN FRANCISCO — (AP) — San Francisco right-hander Alex Cobb carried a no-hit bid through eight against the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night with the help of a scoring change and a sliding eighth-inning catch by Austin Slater upheld in a video review.

Nick Senzel was credited with a single in the third inning on a two-hopper that third baseman Casey Schmitt snagged with a backhand grab. The rookie’s throw from foul territory was high and pulled a leaping J.D. Davis off the first-base bag.

Official scorer Chris Thoms originally called the play a hit, then changed it to an error.

With two outs in the eighth, Will Benson hit a pop to short center. Slater sprinted in, leaped forward and caught the ball backhanded while prone. Cobb raised both arms in celebration.

After a period of suspense, crew chief Bill Miller announced “The call on the field stands,” and the crowd roared.

Senzel was the only runner to reach through eight innings off Cobb, who struck out seven and threw 113 pitches. The Giants led 5-0.

Cobb was trying to win for the first time in eight starts since July 5.

CINCINNATI — Clayton Kershaw pitched seven sharp innings, Chris Taylor hit his 10th home run and the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Cincinnati Reds 6-0 on Thursday.

Kershaw (8-4) scattered five hits, struck out nine and walked two to help Los Angeles snap its four-game losing streak and avoid a three-game sweep against the Reds, who won the previous two games in walk-off fashion.

Los Angeles improved to 10-3 against Cincinnati dating to September 2021.

The Dodgers scored three runs in the third against starter Graham Ashcraft (3-5).

GUARDIANS 10, RED SOX 3

CLEVELAND (AP) — José Ramírez homered in his first three at-bats — and from both sides of the plate — to power Cleveland past Boston.

Ramírez connected for a solo shot in the first inning off Matt Dermody (0-1), belted a two-run shot — his 200th career homer — in the third and added another solo drive in the sixth when the Guardians hit for the cycle, had eight straight hits and scored five times.

Ramírez came up a second time in the sixth bidding for a rare four-homer game, but struck out swinging. The four-time All-Star third baseman had another chance in the eighth, but grounded to third.

There have only been 16 four-homer games in the majors since 1901.

Will Brennan added a home run as the Guardians won the series and handed the Red Sox their fifth loss in six games.

Aaron Civale (2-1) had his second solid outing for Cleveland after spending 46 games on the injured list with an oblique strain.

BRAVES 13, METS 10, 10 INNINGS

ATLANTA (AP) — Ozzie Albies lined a three-run homer with two outs in the 10th inning and Atlanta rallied to beat reeling New York for a three-game sweep.

Orlando Arcia hit a tying solo homer off Mets closer David Robertson in the ninth to help the NL East leaders win their fifth straight.

New York, which has dropped six in a row for the first time since August 2019, had won a franchise-record 122 consecutive games when leading after eight innings — the longest active streak in the majors.

The Mets (30-33) wasted two home runs from rookie Francisco Álvarez and an early grand slam from Brandon Nimmo as three-time Cy Young Award winner Justin Verlander struggled.

Atlanta erased deficits of 9-5 and 10-7 and came back from at least three runs down to win all three games in the series. It marked the first time in Mets history they lost three consecutive games they led by three runs or more.

Albies homered off Tommy Hunter (0-1). Travis d’Arnaud hit a two-run shot against Drew Smith in the eighth to cut it to 10-9. Austin Riley and Marcell Ozuna also went deep for the Braves.

Raisel Iglesias (2-2) struck out Álvarez and Jeff McNeil in a perfect 10th.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Yonny Chirinos pitched well into the sixth inning, Harold Ramírez homered during a three-run fourth and the MLB-best Tampa Bay Rays completed a three-game sweep of AL Central-leading Minnesota.

Chirinos (3-1), recalled from Triple-A Durham before the game, allowed one run over 5 2/3 innings in his first big league appearance since April 29. Jason Adam, the third Rays reliever, worked the ninth for his 10th save.

Tampa Bay (46-19) is 29-6 at home and has won six in a row overall.

Carlos Correa and Michael A. Taylor homered for the Twins (31-32), who have lost a season-high five consecutive games. They have totaled seven runs in the past six games.

Bailey Ober (3-3) retired his first 11 batters, including six straight strikeouts, before losing his perfect game and the lead in a span of three batters.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Zack Wheeler took a no-hitter into the eighth inning, Kody Clemens came through with a game-ending single and Philadelphia rallied past Detroit for its fifth victory in a row.

Brandon Marsh tied it in the ninth with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly for the defending NL champion Phillies (30-32).

Nick Maton hit a go-ahead single in the top of the ninth after Tyler Nevin broke up Wheeler’s no-hit bid on a single with one out in the eighth for the Tigers, who lost their sixth straight and eighth in the last nine.

Bryce Harper’s leadoff double in the ninth against Alex Lange (3-2) sparked Philadelphia’s rally. Craig Kimbrel (4-1) got the win.

The game originally was scheduled for Wednesday night but was postponed due to poor air quality caused by smoke from Canadian wildfires.

ORIOLES 6, BREWERS 3

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Gunnar Henderson hit a two-run homer with two outs in the eighth inning to put Baltimore ahead for good and the Orioles rallied from a three-run deficit to beat Milwaukee.

The Brewers took a 3-0 lead in the first and were in control for much of the game until the Orioles scored six runs over the final three innings against Milwaukee’s bullpen. The comeback enabled the Orioles to avoid a three-game sweep.

Anthony Santander’s one-out RBI double off Peter Strzelecki (3-5) cut the Brewers’ lead to 3-2 in the eighth.

Adam Frazier had a two-run double in the ninth for Baltimore. Ramón Urías started the comeback by hitting a two-out homer off Joel Payamps in the seventh.

Bryan Baker, Keegan Akin (2-1), Yennier Cano and Félix Bautista combined for four innings of scoreless relief. Bautista earned his 16th save in 20 opportunities.

BLUE JAYS 3, ASTROS 2

TORONTO (AP) — Brandon Belt had a tiebreaking single, José Berríos pitched six steady innings to win his third straight decision and Toronto defeated Houston.

Alejandro Kirk added an RBI double as the Blue Jays took three of four from the defending World Series champions and won the season series 4-3.

Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez left after one at-bat because of a sore right oblique.

Berríos (6-4) allowed two runs and four hits. Jordan Romano finished for his 17th save in 20 chances.

Houston left-hander Framber Valdez (6-5) gave up three runs in five innings.

NEW YORK (AP) — Randy Vásquez pitched two-hit ball into the sixth inning for his first major league win, Billy McKinney hit his first home run with the Yankees and New York blanked Chicago for a doubleheader split.

McKinney was called up from the minors Wednesday when star slugger Aaron Judge went on the injured list with a sprained and bruised right big toe.

The White Sox extended their winning streak to a season-high five games with a 6-5 victory in the opener, when Eloy Jiménez hit a go-ahead homer in the seventh off Michael King (1-2).

Jake Burger had a two-run shot off Yankees starter Luis Severino before Luis Robert Jr. and Yoán Moncada also went deep against the right-hander.

After Wednesday’s game was postponed by Major League Baseball because of hazardous air quality from Canadian wildfires, conditions in the Bronx had improved by Thursday’s first pitch.

In the second game, Gleyber Torres hit a two-run homer off starter Mike Clevinger (3-4).

Making his second big league start, Vásquez (1-1) retired 15 straight hitters and was pulled with two outs in the sixth. Ron Marinaccio worked 2 2/3 innings and Clay Holmes got his seventh save as the Yankees avoided a three-game sweep.

Willie Calhoun homered and drove in three runs for the Yankees in the opener.

Gregory Santos (2-0) pitched a 1-2-3 sixth for the win. Kendall Graveman earned his sixth save by getting Anthony Rizzo to ground into a game-ending double play with two on.

DENVER (AP) — Brandon Crawford had a pinch-hit RBI double to spark a three-run ninth inning and San Francisco beat Colorado for the 11th straight time.

Michael Conforto and Thairo Estrada homered to help the Giants sweep their seventh straight series from Colorado. Scott Alexander (5-0) won in relief and Camilo Doval finished for his 16th save.

Nolan Jones had three hits for the Rockies, who have lost four straight.

San Francisco is 16-3 at Coors Field dating to Sept. 6, 2021, and has won eight straight in Denver. That streak was in jeopardy until a late rally against closer Pierce Johnson (0-3).

ANGELS 3, CUBS 1

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Jo Adell homered in his first game back in the majors, Reid Detmers posted his first win of the season and Los Angeles defeated Chicago to complete its third series sweep of the season.

It is the first time the Angels, who have won four straight, have swept the Cubs in a three-game series.

Trey Mancini had an RBI double for Chicago, swept for the fourth time this year. The Cubs have dropped four in a row and 10 of 14.

Adell, who led the Triple-A Pacific Coast League with 18 homers before being called up, tied it 1-all in the second inning when he hammered a sinker from Drew Smyly (5-4).

Detmers (1-5) struck out eight in 5 2/3 innings. Carlos Estevez got his 16th save.

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Shohei Ohtani’s major league-leading 33rd homer keyed the Angels’ tying rally in the ninth inning, and rookie Trey Cabbage scored on Grae Kessinger’s throwing error in the 10th to end Los Angeles’ wild 13-12 victory over the Houston Astros on Saturday night.

Kessinger threw wide of first base while attempting to turn an easy inning-ending double play on Taylor Ward’s grounder. Cabbage scored from third in only his second major league game to set off a wild celebration for the Angels, who rallied from a six-run deficit in the seventh and a three-run deficit in the ninth before snapping their six-game losing streak.

The AL West rivals combined for 18 runs in the final four innings of a much-needed victory for the Angels, who had lost 10 of 11.

Ohtani hit a 404-foot shot to center off closer Ryan Pressly leading off the ninth for the Angels, who already had tied it 9-9 in the seventh on Mike Moustakas’ dramatic three-run homer. Chas McCormick put Houston back ahead with a two-run homer in the eighth.

Hunter Renfroe’s RBI single tied it in the ninth, but Pressly stranded two Angels in scoring position. All-Star closer Carlos Estevez (3-1) pitched a scoreless 10th inning for Los Angeles, and Phil Maton (2-3) lost without allowing a hit.

CHICAGO (AP) — Cody Bellinger hit his eighth career grand slam in a six-run third inning, a day after homering twice, and Chicago beat Boston.

Bellinger connected off James Paxton (5-2) for his 12th homer and Patrick Wisdom added his 15th an inning later, a two-run drive off Tayler Scott.

Marcus Stroman (10-6) allowed one run and three hits in six innings. He had been 0-2 in his previous three starts.

DENVER (AP) — Giancarlo Stanton homered for the fourth time in four games and reached 1,000 career RBIs by driving in four runs to power New York.

Stanton’s three-run homer in the second capped a five-run inning off Connor Seabold (1-7) that built a 6-1 lead. Stanton, who has 12 homers at Coors Field, drove in the first run with a groundout in the first. He has 16 RBIs in his last 14 games.

Clarke Schmidt (5-6) gave up two runs and three hits in six innings while tying a career high with eight strikeouts. Clay Holmes pitched a one-hit ninth for his 11th save in 13 chances.

DJ LeMahieu had three hits, including two doubles back at Coors Field.

BALTIMORE (AP) — Gunnar Henderson homered to start a two-run seventh-inning as Baltimore rallied to win its seventh straight.

Anthony Santander put Baltimore ahead with an RBI single later in the seventh, and the Orioles still dropped to two games behind first-place Tampa Bay in the AL East after the Rays swept a doubleheader at Kansas City.

The Marlins led 5-4 in the seventh when Henderson sent the first pitch from reliever Huascar Brazoban (3-2) to deep right field for his 14th homer. 0Brazoban allowed hits to four of his five hitters.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Bryce Harper ended the longest homerless streak of his major league career in the second game, and Philadelphia completed a doubleheader sweep.

Harper connected on a curveball from left-hander Ryan Weathers (1-6), tying the score 1-1 in the fourth inning. It was the fourth homer of the season for Harper, who made his season debut May 2 after recovering from Tommy John surgery. The home run was Harper’s first since May 25 at Atlanta. He had gone 166 plate appearances without going deep.

Kyle Schwarber put Philadelphia in front for good with a three-run homer in the bottom half of the fifth.

Johan Rojas had three hits and two RBIs in the second game after making a spectacular catch in the first inning of the opener in his major league debut.

Taijuan Walker (11-3) allowed two runs and four hits in five innings to win the second game.

Schwarber hit a tying home run in the seventh inning of the opener, a 440-foot drive, and drove in the go-ahead run with a single in the eighth off Tim Hill (1-3).

Manny Machado’s 300th homer had given San Diego a 4-3 lead in the eighth against Matt Strahm (6-3). Craig Kimbrel retired Machado with two on for his 15th save.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Luke Raley had a go-ahead single in the eighth inning, and Tampa Bay completed a doubleheader sweep.

Jose Siri hit a pair of solo homers as the Rays won the first game to open the second half. AL East-leading Tampa Bay has won three in a row after a season-high, seven-game losing streak and at 60-35 became the first AL team to 60 wins.

Kansas City has lost eight of nine, dropping to 26-67 and falling 41 games under .500. The Royals were swept in a doubleheader for the first time since May 25, 2019, against the New York Yankees.

Dairon Blanco’s RBI grounder in the fifth put the Royals ahead 2-1 in the nightcap. Josh Lowe tied the score with a run-scoring triple in the seventh and Raley singled in the eighth against Carlos Hernández (0-5). Harold Ramírez added a sacrifice fly in the ninth against Dylan Coleman.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Michael Conforto hit a tiebreaking RBI single in the eighth inning and San Francisco won its fourth straight.

After LaMonte Wade Jr. walked and Joc Pederson singled with one out against rookie Carmen Mlodzinski (1-2), All-Star closer David Bednar entered and struck out J.D. Davis. Conforto then hit a line drive into right field. Wade scored on a play at the plate, beating right fielder Henry Davis’ throw. Pederson also scored when Pirates catcher Jason Delay threw wildly to second in an unsuccessful bid to get Conforto.

San Francisco’s Mike Yastrzemski and Pittsburgh’s Henry Davis hit solo homers in the second inning.

Taylor Rogers (5-3) worked a scoreless seventh, and Camilo Doval worked around a leadoff single in the ninth for his major-league leading 28th save.

TORONTO (AP) — Chris Bassitt (9-5) allowed two runs and seven hits in six innings after Kevin Gausman was scratched early because of discomfort in his left side.

In a game that started after a 65-minute rain delay, St. Louis had a season-high 17 hits in the night game, opening a 4-0 lead in the second before Washington tied the score. Gorman doubled off Amos Willingham (0-1) and scored on Paul DeJong’s single for a 7-4 lead.

Dakota Hudson (1-0) allowed four hits in 3 1/3 scoreless innings. Nolan Arenado homered in the eighth.

Thomas hit a tiebreaking single in the 10th off Jordan Hicks (1-6) in the first game.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Andrew Heaney rebounded from his worst start of the season and slumping Marcus Semien had his first multihit game in two weeks as Texas got its seventh shutout of the season.

Heaney (6-6) allowed six hits and one walk in 5 1/3 innings, striking out four. Aroldis Chapman struck out two in a one-hit ninth in his first save situation since he was acquired from Kansas City on June 30.

Semien, who entered in a 3-for-36 slide, had two singles, scored a run and added a sacrifice fly.

Cleveland’s Gavin Williams (1-2) allowed both runs, four hits and four walks over five innings. The Guardians were blanked for the ninth time.

TIGERS 6, MARINERS 0

SEATTLE (AP) — Kerry Carpenter homered twice, Michael Lorenzen allowed two hits in 6 2/3 innings and Detroit beat Seattle.

Carpenter hit a solo homer in the second inning and a three-run shot in the fifth, giving him three homers in the past two games.

That was more than enough support for Lorenzen (4-6), who took a no-hitter into the fifth inning. The 31-year-old righty struck out seven and worked around five walks in a 97-pitch performance. Beau Brieske and Brendan White pitched 2 1/3 innings of relief to finish a combined three-hitter.

Detroit tagged Seattle starter George Kirby (8-8) for six runs and eight hits in five innings.

TWINS 10, ATHLETICS 7

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Kyle Farmer had three hits including a go-ahead home run in the seventh inning, and Minnesota won its second straight.

Michael A. Taylor hit his 11th home run for the Twins and made a catch at the wall in center field to rob pinch-hitter Brent Rooker of extra bases in the sixth.

Ryan Jeffers walked twice, scored three runs and drove in one for Minnesota, which leads the AL Central at 47-46. Farmer homered off Freddy Tarnok (0-1).

Ryan Noda and Seth Brown homered for Oakland, which has lost six straight and is last in the AL West.

Jovani Moran (2-2) retired two batters to win. Jhoan Duran struck out two of the three batters he faced in the ninth for his 14th save.

DODGERS 5, METS 1

NEW YORK (AP) — Mookie Betts went 4 for 4 with a home run and Los Angeles won its sixth straight.

Max Muncy scored the tiebreaking run in the eighth inning on David Peralta’s RBI grounder. Mets first baseman Pete Alonso had a chance to start an inning-ending double play, but his throw to second base forced shortstop Francisco Lindor to make a leaping grab and then find the bag, giving Peralta enough time to beat the relay at first.

Los Angeles added three insurance runs in the ninth, helped by a fielding error by rookie third baseman Brett Baty. J.D. Martinez and Peralta followed with RBI singles off Grant Hartwig.

Brandon Nimmo homered for the Mets, held to three hits one night after mustering just one, en route to their fourth straight loss.

Brusdar Graterol (3-2) worked a hitless seventh for the NL West leaders, who have won 14 of 19. Adam Ottavino (0-4) took the loss.

BREWERS 3, REDS 0

CINCINNATI (AP) — Freddy Peralta combined with three relievers on a one-hitter, Christian Yelich homered on the game’s first pitch and Milwaukee shut out Cincinnati for the third straight game.

Playing six straight games against the Reds, Milwaukee has won four of the first five. The Brewers tied the Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto for the major league shutouts lead with 10.

Jake Fraley had the Reds’ only hit, a broken-bat infield single with one out in the fourth. Cincinnati (50-43) has managed just seven hits in its last three games, none for extra bases.

Peralta (6-7) won for the first time since May 21. He struck out six and walked two in six innings. Evan Peguero, Joel Payamps and Devin Williams followed with an inning each, with Williams getting his 22nd save in 24 chances.

William Contreras homered in the fourth and Owen Miller in the seventh. Andrew Abbott (4-2) allowed two runs and three hits in six innings, and Miller homered off Buck Farmer.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Going six innings without a hit, the San Francisco Giants finally got to the Los Angeles Dodgers’ bullpen and the floodgates opened.

Brandon Crawford got the starting shot in the 11th inning and the Giants earned a 7-5 win Friday night after Emmet Sheehan dominated them early on in his major league debut.

The Dodgers’ bullpen imploded again, giving up five runs after Sheehan left.

Runner-up designate Patrick Bailey started lap 11 second and finished third when Mike Yastrzemski sent Alex Vesia down the middle (0-4). James Outman shot for third to catch Bailey, whose left foot went over the sack. But the tag didn’t stay on his right knee and he was called safe in a play that was reviewed.

Crawford, who failed to score in his first four attacks, hit a single to the right giving Bailey a 6-5 lead. Austin Slater’s RBI single added an insurance run.

“We’ve had a few wins from behind, especially away from home,” said Jakob Junis, who made his first save. “I think it gives everyone confidence.”

Los Angeles rallied and tied for 5th place in the ninth run with Freddie Freeman’s infield single to defeat Camilo Doval. The Dodgers had the potential winner as third in the 10th, but pinch-hitter Austin Barnes hit a third to end the inning.

The Dodgers made a colossal baserun error at the bottom of 11th court.

Mookie Betts was running for first place on what appeared to be a routine pop-up until the ball dropped due to an error by third baseman Casey Schmitt. Betts suddenly accelerated but didn’t look ahead to see Michael Busch being stopped. Busch was thrown out for the second time in a rundown at home. Betts was secure in third place on two-fault play before Miguel Rojas closed the game.

Betts said it was his decision to run.

“I was just thinking wrong, I saw the game wrong, I was wrong,” he said.

Giants manager Gabe Kapler was still amazed at the absurdity of the matter afterwards.

“I had to watch the rerun three or four times, it was such a weird piece,” he said. “One of the weirder ones I’ve been a part of. I don’t know what to say about that. It was so strange.”

The Giants have won five straight games and eight of 11 games. Since May 15, they are 20:9.

Tyler Rogers (3-2) clinched the win with one hit in an inning to relief.

Joc Pederson’s RBI single put the Giants 4-3 in the eighth. They tied it to Thairo Estrada’s sacrificial fly. Casey Schmitt hit a shortstop with a single against Tayler Scott, who scored Pederson to give him a 5-4 lead.

Wilmer Flores went deep into left field in the seventh round, leaving the Giants 4-2 behind. He fouled a ball off the top of his left foot on batting and later left the game. He will undergo a CT scan on Saturday.

“It hurts, it’s a sensitive area,” Flores said.

Sheehan shone after being called up straight from Double-A Tulsa. The 23-year-old, in his third season with the Dodgers, is the sixth rookie and fourth pitcher to play for the team this season.

Sheehan threw 51 of 89 shots for strikes, with his fastball averaging 95.6 mph. He knocked out three and walked two.

“I was just trying to go out there and make it the same game as Double-A,” he said. “To have the Dodger fans and family behind me here at the game, I couldn’t have asked for a better debut than a Dodger win.”

Sheehan was greeted with high fives and hugs in the dugout after retiring in the sixth half to take a 4-0 lead. He is a graduate of Fordham Prep, the same high school in the Bronx that the late Dodgers Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully attended.

“It was a special moment that he will always remember,” said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. “He delivered. It was fun to watch. We made some nice moves behind him. I wish we could have ended it with a win.”

The Dodgers led 4-0 in the fifth round. Will Smith had a two-out RBI bloop single and JD Martinez had an RBI double. Outman scored a single, and left fielder Michael Conforto dropped the ball twice in his rush to execute the throw. Smith and Martinez scored due to the error.

Sheehan was backed by a brilliant defense from Rojas, Freeman and Betts.

In the fourth game, shortstop Rojas backhanded a ball hit by Estrada and when he slipped, he turned and flew to second base to snap Pederson.

Flores sent a pop foul to the first base warning lane and Freeman went into the protective net, caught the ball and landed in the front row spots to finish the fourth.

Betts had two highlights in game six. He made a long run to the left to steal LaMonte Wade Jr. for the second out. Betts then made a diving catch on his stomach for a line drive from Pederson, ending Sheehan’s 1-2-3 inning.

TRAINING ROOM

Giants: OF Mitch Haniger underwent surgery to repair a fractured ulna in his right arm. He went to the IL and is expected to be out for 10 weeks.

Dodgers: 3B Max Muncy went into the IL with a hamstring strain. He could return in time for a home series against Houston that begins June 23. … 3B Chris Taylor retired in the fourth game with right knee pain and LF David Peralta retired in the third game with a left hamstring strain. Both players will be out on Saturday as Taylor undergoes an investigation.

LIGHTS IT

Kapler was irritated by the flashing lights of her new LED system and complained to the referee once during the game. “There must be no lights on while plays are still going on,” he said.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Going six innings without a hit, the San Francisco Giants finally got to the Los Angeles Dodgers’ bullpen and the floodgates opened.

Brandon Crawford got the starting shot in the 11th inning and the Giants earned a 7-5 win Friday night after Emmet Sheehan dominated them early on in his major league debut.

The Dodgers’ bullpen imploded again, giving up five runs after Sheehan left.

Runner-up designate Patrick Bailey started lap 11 second and finished third when Mike Yastrzemski sent Alex Vesia down the middle (0-4). James Outman shot for third to catch Bailey, whose left foot went over the sack. But the tag didn’t stay on his right knee and he was called safe in a play that was reviewed.

Crawford, who failed to score in his first four attacks, hit a single to the right giving Bailey a 6-5 lead. Austin Slater’s RBI single added an insurance run.

“We’ve had a few wins from behind, especially away from home,” said Jakob Junis, who made his first save. “I think it gives everyone confidence.”

Los Angeles rallied and tied for 5th place in the ninth run with Freddie Freeman’s infield single to defeat Camilo Doval. The Dodgers had the potential winner as third in the 10th, but pinch-hitter Austin Barnes hit a third to end the inning.

The Dodgers made a colossal baserun error at the bottom of 11th court.

Mookie Betts was running for first place on what appeared to be a routine pop-up until the ball dropped due to an error by third baseman Casey Schmitt. Betts suddenly accelerated but didn’t look ahead to see Michael Busch being stopped. Busch was thrown out for the second time in a rundown at home. Betts was secure in third place on two-fault play before Miguel Rojas closed the game.

Betts said it was his decision to run.

“I was just thinking wrong, I saw the game wrong, I was wrong,” he said.

Giants manager Gabe Kapler was still amazed at the absurdity of the matter afterwards.

“I had to watch the rerun three or four times, it was such a weird piece,” he said. “One of the weirder ones I’ve been a part of. I don’t know what to say about that. It was so strange.”

The Giants have won five straight games and eight of 11 games. Since May 15, they are 20:9.

Tyler Rogers (3-2) clinched the win with one hit in an inning to relief.

Joc Pederson’s RBI single put the Giants 4-3 in the eighth. They tied it to Thairo Estrada’s sacrificial fly. Casey Schmitt hit a shortstop with a single against Tayler Scott, who scored Pederson to give him a 5-4 lead.

Wilmer Flores went deep into left field in the seventh round, leaving the Giants 4-2 behind. He fouled a ball off the top of his left foot on batting and later left the game. He will undergo a CT scan on Saturday.

“It hurts, it’s a sensitive area,” Flores said.

SAN FRANCISCO — The Chicago Cubs, stuck in fourth place in the National League Central, were in desperate need of a series win over the Giants. You earned this Saturday, but almost got more.

Right-hander Kyle Hendricks put up a no-hitter in the eighth inning and was four outs from throwing the Majors’ first pitch of the year before Giants left fielder Mitch Haniger hit a full-count pitch into the gap in the left midfield hit Clean two-out double.

Hendricks quickly grabbed a third out and watched Julian Merryweather complete a combined one-hitter and a 4-0 win, giving the Cubs a chance to win the series on Sunday and with a respectable 5-5 Game against San Diego to return to Chicago. Anaheim and San Francisco.

Hendricks’ only blemish before the Haniger goal was a one-out walk on Michael Conforto in the second inning.

The 33-year-old, longtime Cub was attempting to throw the 18th no-hitter in franchise history in just his fourth start of the season after missing nearly 11 months with a ruptured right shoulder capsule.

Counting pitches became a problem for Hendricks, despite the Giants’ batsmen being aggressive and making many early countouts. Hendricks threw 81 pitches in seven innings. He hadn’t pitched more than six innings or 86 pitches in any of his first three starts after rehab.

But the first two Giants hitters in the eighth inning helped Hendricks by knocking out four pitches total.

The outcome of the game did not seem in doubt.

Matt Mervis hit a home run against Jakob Junis and started the third inning. Christopher Morel broke a 0-for-22 with a home run on Junis early in the fourth set and added a two-out, two-run single in the fifth set to chase Junis down.

Mike Tauchman had a crucial hit in the inning, a double that put two runners in goal position with an out, but he helped Hendricks much more in midfield.

With an out in the third set, Tauchman went left center when Brandon Crawford made a drive to the warning line right of center. Tauchman stole what appeared to be extra bases from Crawford with a sweeping catch and held the ball as it slammed onto the dirt.

Tauchman played for the Giants in 2021 and is known in San Francisco for a lone catch when he vaulted the left field wall at Dodger Stadium in the ninth inning of a tie game with two outs, robbing Albert Pujols of what appeared to be the world coming together Walk-off home run.

After 2-1 with two outs in ninth place, the Giants combined it with a bizarre RBI triple and scored eight runs in the last three innings. San Francisco had to use nine different pitchers.

“That was the toughest performance of the year for our club,” said Giants manager Gabe Kapler.

That’s a strong statement considering the courage the NL West leaders have shown throughout the season. That latest win came just two nights after the Giants made up a 4-0 deficit in the ninth inning in a 5-4, 10-inning triumph in Arizona.

The Giants played their third consecutive extra inning game. They leveled the game with a two-out rally in ninth place and then bounced back after losing a three-round lead in 10th place.

LaMonte Wade brought the Giants on the 11th Belt followed with a double shot over the right field wall. Kris Bryant crowned the rally with an RBI double.

“That’s a really good lineup,” said Brewers starter Brandon Woodruff. “Of course a lot of these guys have multiple World Series rings. A moment is not too big for either of these guys. You saw everything. “

All four of the Giants’ 11th innings were run by Sal Romano (0-1) in his Brewers debut.

Belt also hit a solo shot in the fourth solo and has three homers in the last two nights. Bryant and Buster Posey both had three hits.

Jake McGee (4-2) landed 9-5 at the end of the 11th. McGee was not supposed to line up on Saturday but was called upon when the game reached the 11th.

“I didn’t have my brace down there or my cup or anything, so they had to do that in extra innings,” said McGee, who was running for the third night in a row.

The Brewers were deprived of a 2-1 win when Tommy La Stella hit a drive in the ninth inning that fell in front of right fielder Avisaíl García on the warning trail. La Stella has been credited with a triple that Bryant scored from the start.

García backed away until he was in front of the wall and took a few steps to the right to find the fly, but never touched the ball when he reached for it.

“I think he got stuck on the wall a bit and then struggled to change direction,” said Brewers manager Craig Counsell. “I think he was preparing to catch against the wall and the ball just didn’t get there and he got a little tied up and his feet got tangled and he couldn’t recover from it.”

La Stella’s hit thwarted Brent Suter’s hopes of saving his first career at the age of 31.

“You have to give La Stella credit,” said Suter. “He just got a barrel on an up-and-in pitch. He got it up there and it moved and all. “

Milwaukee couldn’t reach out to All-Star Josh Hader, one of several brewers on the COVID-19 injured list.

Posey hit a two-run single through a drafted infield and Brandon Crawford drove home a prey fly run to help the Giants take a 5-2 lead over Miguel Sánchez in 10th place.

Woodruff struck eight, allowing six hits, a run, and a step.
