Starting pitcher Keaton Winn is also being placed on the injured list with elbow inflammation.

He saw much less action this year, appearing in just 21 games before being demoted in the midst of his slump.

Authorities say a man was struck while waiting for a bus in San Francisco's Richmond neighborhood when a car plowed into the bus stop. The San Francisco Police Department reported the incident occurred around 4:50 p.m. Saturday at Fulton Street and Park Presidio Boulevard, across from Golden Gate Park, SF.

The injured pedestrian, an adult male, was found on the sidewalk by officers who quickly rendered aid. Paramedics took the victim to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, according to a statement obtained by KGO. The vehicle, a Nissan, landed on the curb and struck and hit a “Pedestrian Yield” sign.

To add to the severity, the accident occurred just a week after a tragic incident in which a 78-year-old woman drove into a bus stop in West Portal, claiming the lives of a family of four. Although no charges have been filed against the driver of the previous accident, Jen Nossokoff, a San Francisco resident and eyewitness to the most recent accident, expressed her dismay, telling KGO: “I'm heartbroken that I'm exactly one week after the terrible tragedy in the West Portal.” A man is placed on a stretcher after sustaining a head injury when another car collided with people waiting at a bus stop.

Law enforcement issued a citation for multiple traffic violations against the male driver of the Nissan. Following these incidents, State Senator Scott Wiener called for safer roads and stricter speed rules on social media, according to SFist, proclaiming, “We can make our streets safer.” Wiener is advocating for legislation that would enforce speed limits by limiting the speed of cars to no more than 10 miles per hour over the prescribed limit.

San Francisco Police are asking anyone with information about the recent crash to come forward and provide details to the department by calling 415-575-4444 or texting TIP411 and prefixing the message with “SFPD.”

Five people were injured in San Francisco Wednesday when an AC Transit bus rammed into another AC Transit bus, crashed into an occupied vehicle, careened onto a sidewalk, and stopped between a high-rise building and some scaffolding, “narrowly missing” traffic light poles, police said.

The bus was traveling northbound near Fremont and Folsom streets at the time of the crash, which was reported around 9:25 a.m., Officer Robert Rueca told reporters.

The five people who were sent to area hospitals include the drivers of both buses, a bus passenger and a passenger in a private vehicle, according to AC Transit spokesman Robert Lyles.

“We wanted to transport them as quickly as possible, knowing that the traffic in the area was going to get heavy and that their health was our biggest concern,” Rueca said.

One of the five victims appears to have taken themselves to the hospital at some point after the collision, Lyles said.

Passengers aboard the bus said the entire experience lasted between 15 and 20 seconds, but it felt like an eternity.

“We were crossing Folsom, and we felt a couple of sharp jolts and I thought maybe they were pumping their brakes,” said Dave Zemke. “But then we hit something really big.”

That big bump was another bus. The green vehicle only came to a stop after hitting the scaffolding of a building on the 200 block of Fremont Street.

There is an AC transit bus on the sidewalk on Fremont St btwn.Folsom &Howard. Passengers tell me driver passed out, hit another bus and pole pic.twitter.com/TqFvvskRa8

— Sam Brock (@SamNBCBayArea) September 27, 2017

A commuter seated near the front of the bus said the driver appeared to be on the verge of passing out.

The driver “started coming down” the hill, Carrie Murphy said, “and you know how the buses line up, and there’s like a passing lane and she tried to ask one of the other bus drivers to let her in because she wasn’t feeling well.”

Rueca said that the bus didn’t hit any pedestrians on the 200 block of Fremont Street, otherwise the crash could have been much worse.

“There was a gentleman who I was talking to that said he was walking down the sidewalk, looked back, saw the bus approaching and jumped into a planter and actually watched as the bus went over!” Zemke said.

Traffic in downtown San Francisco was “heavily impacted” for several hours because the buses couldn’t be moved until police officers had processed the scene of the collision, said Rueca.

For hours after the crash, crews removed the scaffolding above the bus one piece and pipe at a time. Two tow trucks were then needed to hoist the bus from the pavement.

The crash closed the Fremont/Folsom Street and Harrison Street off-ramps from Interstate 80, but both have since reopened, Rueca said. As of around 4 p.m., the only remaining street closure was on the section of Fremont Street between Folsom and Howard streets.

Rueca said it is too early to comment on the cause of the crash. An investigation is ongoing.

AC Transit buses typically traverse the city “safely,” he said. “This is a rare occurrence.”

Lyles said AC Transit has collected video from the involved buses and is checking to see if any San Francisco city buses in the area have video that might be helpful.

“We’re very grateful that the injuries were limited, and that there weren’t more bystanders or pedestrians involved in this,” Lyles said. “We are investing considerable energy and effort into trying to ascertain exactly what happened.”

Lyles said that Fremont Street was cleared fairly quickly and buses on the popular Transbay bus line were able to regain access to the San Francisco terminal by around 1 p.m.

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — Two AC Transit buses crashed into each other near Howard and Fremont in San Francisco early Wednesday, injuring five people including both drivers, authorities said.

San Francisco police spokesman Robert Rueca said police received the call reporting the crash at 9:22 a.m.

A bus traveling north on Fremont near Folsom collided with several vehicles, including another bus, then went onto the sidewalk and struck the scaffolding of a building, Rueca said.

The bus came to a stop on the 200 block of Fremont. He said the bus did not strike anyone on the sidewalk.

AC Transit officials said the two buses exited I-80 onto Fremont Street. One attempted to make a right turn onto Folsom Street. The second bus behind it should have been attempting to make the same turn, but lost control.

A total of five people were sent to area hospitals near the crash, including the drivers of both buses, a bus passenger and a passenger in a private vehicle, according to AC Transit spokesman Robert Lyles.

One of the five people appears to have taken themselves to the hospital at some point after the collision, Lyles said.

He also noted that neither driver has ever had any major issues.

“Each of the operators are experienced and have been with AC transit for a number of years,” explained Lyles. “There’s no indication there’s any problem with any of the operators.”

Video of the scene showed an AC Transit bus on the sidewalk, at least one light pole on the ground and a tree knocked over in the South of Market neighborhood. The front of the bus had crashed into a building under construction.

Danielle Marquis was on her way to work at a nearby dental office when she saw a bus careening down Fremont Street, striking other cars and another AC Transit bus before coming to rest on the sidewalk.

Without thinking, Marquis boarded the bus to see if the driver was okay.

“I wanted to keep her alert, conscious. Make sure she didn’t pass out. She did great,” said Marquis.

She said it was clear something went wrong before the crash.

“Very clear she lost consciousness. Also based on what other passengers said as they left the bus,” explained Marquis. “As soon as the bus stopped everybody jumped out the windows”

Chad Preston was on a job site across the street. He and other construction workers helped Marquis keep the driver conscious while waiting for medical attention.

A few other construction workers said they were lucky to be able to get out of harms way before the bus hit.

“My friend here saw the bus coming when we were underneath the scaffolding,” said construction worker Don Lipary. “He said, ‘What the hell?!’ And I just started running.”

Lipary said the bus was “going 40 mph when it went on the sidewalk.”

Police said the scaffolding the bus crashed into is still something authorities were worried about.

“Its definitely a concern. We must talk to the building engineers to see how it’s affecting the scaffolding,” said Rueca.

The crash closed the Fremont/Folsom Street and Harrison Street off-ramps from Interstate Highway 80, but both have since reopened, Rueca said.

As of around 4 p.m., the only remaining street closure was on the section of Fremont Street between Folsom and Howard streets, where crews were still working to remove the bus that crashed, Rueca said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Two of the victims were critically hurt when the metal ductwork and mechanical parts fell inside the pool area at the Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center near Denver International Airport, The Associated Press reported.

According to a news release from Aurora city officials, the HVAC unit collapsed at about 9:50 a.m. MDT. There were about 50 to 100 people in the pool area, according to the television station. Four people who suffered injuries not considered to be life-threatening were taken to area hospitals, the release stated.

Alec Oughton, Aurora Fire Rescue’s chief, told KUSA-TV that eight firefighters were at the resort for physical training on stairwells and responded immediately to the scene.

“We don’t have any information on what led up to the collapse. There will be an investigation,” Oughton told the television station. “That’ll be all the Gaylord’s responsibility. It’s not a fire department investigation. But I know they have an interest in looking into what happened and getting to the bottom of it.”

Jenn Spykerman was at the resort and tweeted photos of the incident.

“The HVAC system came crashing down on guest(s) in the pool area this morning,” Spykerman tweeted. “My son narrowly missed being hit by the disaster.

“Not a good day at the Gaylord in Denver.”

Jamie Olson, who took a video of the collapse, told KDVR-TV that her son had just gotten out of the hot tub when the system collapsed directly on top of it and the rest of the pool.

“We were right on the outside of the hot tub, and just kind of heard a big groan, and we looked up and it was just like a domino effect,” Olson said. “One side collapsed, and then it caused the other side to collapse.”

Gaylord Rockies, which is owned by Marriott International, released a statement and said the company was “devastated by this traumatic incident,” KDVR reported.

AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) — An HVAC system collapsed and injured six people at the Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center Saturday in Colorado.

Of the six people who were injured, two had life-threatening injuries and four had non-life-threatening injuries.

According to the Aurora Fire Department, the collapse happened around 9:50 a.m.

Jamie Olson, who took a video showing the collapse’s aftermath, told Nexstar’s KDVR her son had just gotten out of the hot tub when the system collapsed directly on top of it and the rest of the pool.

“We were right on the outside of the hot tub, and just kind of heard a big groan, and we looked up,” she said, “and it was just like a domino effect. One side collapsed, and then it caused the other side to collapse.”

‘What happened here is a national embarrassment,’ OSBI agents spotted at crime scene home in Henryetta

Olson said a black sludge that poured out the ceiling, and her husband saw two kids covered in it.

“I think that’s the scariest part was that there were kids down there that couldn’t find their parents,” she said. “And we would’ve sent our kids down there, no problem.”

Olson said the immediate response from everyone, from guests to staff, was “incredible.”

“I think that if you could respond to such an unprecedented event that nobody is trained for,” she said. “They don’t train lifeguards for that — ‘What if the HVAC system collapses in the pool?’ — I think that everyone did a pretty good job.”

She said that even though people were rattled, everyone did the best they could during the situation.

“Everybody jumped in to help,” she said.

According to the fire department, an investigation into the collapse will be up to the hotel to conduct.

The pool was closed for repairs Sunday, but fire crews said the rest of the hotel was safe for guests.

Four people were in critical condition and one person suffered moderate injuries from downed trees in windy conditions in San Francisco Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

The injuries occurred as howling winds swept across the city between 3:45 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., Lt. Jonathan Baxter, a spokesman for the San Francisco Fire Department.

Two people were left with serious injuries and taken to a local hospital when a tree was downed on Post and Polk streets, Baxter told SFGATE by phone at 9 p.m. In another incident, a person was seriously injured by a fallen tree at 23rd Avenue and Lincoln near the Panhandle.

A tree fell on a car on Brotherhood Way and Lake Merced Boulevard. “One person has been rescued and is in critical condition,” Baxter said.

In Ellis, between Hyde and Leavenworth, a person was moderately injured by a fallen tree, he said.

Dangerous winds lashed across San Francisco Tuesday afternoon as a low-pressure system swept across the region. Individual gusts in the city approached 50 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service.

After 8:30 p.m., the weather service reported that the low pressure area was moving into the North Bay and the winds were decreasing. “However, the associated rain will continue overnight with isolated showers into Wednesday,” said the weather service.

“With these unprecedented storms and weather events, it’s important to be prepared and have heightened awareness,” Baxter said. “Watch out for trees, cables and standing puddles of water.”

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — A 2-alarm fire in San Francisco’s Western Addition neighborhood left seven people injured and 18 displaced Friday morning, fire officials said.

Before firefighters had even arrived, teachers and students from Rosa Parks Elementary watched as smoke was coming out of the residential building.

The schoolyard is right behind the apartment complex.

“I yelled for my amazing co-workers to clear the yard and move the kids away from the fire,” said Cicily Ina-Lee a teacher who, along with her colleague Vincent Reyes, ran toward the apartments.

Both teachers pulled down the fire escape ladders. Reyes went inside to rescue residents.

“I went inside the building here when the fire first started. I saw the fire it was pretty heavy on the roof and that’s when I saw the last person hopefully come out of the building,” Reyes explained.

One of the residents, who did not want to give us her name, described the teachers’ efforts. “And they were screaming and knocking and calling and trying to get us out and when the doors opened they went in and rescued the old people. They were fantastic,” the resident said. She managed to take her two parakeets with her.

Josh Gant was walking in the area when he saw some of the other victims being taken away.

“They were bringing one lady out, she was burnt really badly on her face and hands. Then they brought another lady out, she had smoke all over her and they brought another lady out, smoke all over her, and they were all like 80 years old, I guess,” added Gant.

Eighteen people were displaced in what exhausted firefighters described as a fast-moving blaze. It was a rescue effort aided by two teachers who thought of their neighbors first.

“We’re teachers, so we care about other people. Hopefully anybody would do the same things,” said Reyes.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
