A plane passenger captured the moment that a plane, just parallel to his was at a standstill in the sky over a bridge in San Francisco

The video was posted online and attracted commenters to speculate what might have caused it

The moment is known to be extremely rare and amazing to witness

This is the incredible moment a passenger spotted another plane ‘hanging in mid-air’ over San Francisco.

Posted to Reddit, the video attracted many commenters who questioned the reason for the plane being at a standstill.

‘It’s parallax, which is the observed displacement of an object caused by the change of the observer’s point of view. We see it all the time,’ said one commenter.

A pilot told Daily Mirror the stunt is an optical illusion – that involves two planes landing at the same time and the smaller one moving slower.

A passenger from another plane caught the moment that a separate aircraft was at floating in mid-air near the San Francisco International Airport

‘San Francisco has a procedure when the weather is adequate and both aircraft [sic] can see each other, they can land with less separation laterally than you’d normally need,’ the pilot told the outlet following a similar incident.

‘The aircraft is much lighter than the one where the passenger is filming, so it will be flying much slower – and there could be a strong headwind which means less movement over the ground too.’

Commenters thought otherwise about why the aircraft was hanging in mid-air.

‘No no glitch in the Matrix is the more rational explanation,’ a Reddit user commented.

‘No, I thinks [sic] it’s stopped in time guys, anyone see if it’s still stuck there,’ said another.

Locals to the area said that they have witnessed this spectacle time and time again.

‘As someone who lives it this area and drives on that bridge all the time, I’m sure hundreds or thousands of people on it would have stopped and recorded the plane just floating above them in mid air,’ said a commenter.

‘I live rite [sic] by a airport, they come in all the time going super slow like that. It looks impossible but it’s not,’ said another.

San Francisco locals commented under the video posted to Reddit of the plane hovering over the bridge and shared how this was a normal occurrence in that area Others commented and insisted that this was a ‘glitch in the Matrix’ or happened due to aliens and different supernatural phenomenon’s In 2013 San Francisco International Airport implemented new arrival procedures called Closely- Spaced Parallel Runways. In order to orchestrate this amazing site an airport must have two parallel runways separated by a small distance

San Francisco International Airport initiated new arrival procedures in the fall of 2013 called Closely- Spaced Parallel Runways.

‘This will allow staggered arrivals on parallel runways during poor weather conditions, further improving on-time performance at SFO. Arriving aircraft are separated by 1.5 nautical miles,’ SFO said on their website.

Visual flight rules are a set of guidelines that pilots follow in an aircraft, under clear weather conditions.

‘VFR flight is based on the principle of ‘see and avoid.’ The presumption made in establishing the basic VFR weather minimums is that aircraft flying at lower altitudes and/or in airspace with radar approach control and/or an operating control tower will be moving more slowly, or that they will be under positive control,’ said The Federal Aviation Administration.

When this happens, aircrafts do not need as much flight visibility or distance from clouds in order to avoid other air traffic.

A similar incident occurred in August as a passenger in another plane posted a video to Reddit of a United Airlines aircraft hovering just above land.

The passenger captioned the video: ‘Landing at SFO. What is happening here?’ They ended the caption with an alien emoji and a question mark.

The wing of the moving plane reveals a plane not too far away, completely still and hovering in the air with its wheels out.

‘UFO at SFO,’ said one commenter.

‘It’s a glitch in the matrix,’ said another.

Some commenters appeared to know exactly what was happening to the plane and went on to explain it.

‘It is an optical illusions [sic] caused by a shifting perceptual frame where one plane is moving at a moderate rate of speed, while simultaneously, the other plane is floating perfectly still in one spot in the air,’ said another.

Another said: ‘Tell me you have never had a duel [sic] landing at SFO before posting it on social media. They are famous for it [un]like any other airport in the country.’

Other US airports that have the appropriate facilities to conduct simultaneous take-offs and landings include Newark Liberty International Airport and Kansas City International Airport.

At Newark Airport United Airlines maintains their own operational hub to do so.

According to Simple Flying: ‘In fact, 23 different US airports can accommodate three aircraft approaching three runways simultaneously, some of which are rather small.’

In a similar incident, a passenger recorded from the inside of his plane window as the wing of the moving plane reveals a plane not too far away, completely still and hovering in the air with its wheels out A similar video posted to Reddit in August also caused a lot of speculation on why exactly the plane was hovering so low and close to land. Some blamed it on aliens and the Matrix, while others said it was a dual landing taking place

Other airports can accommodate more than three aircraft taking off at once, like Denver International Airport and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

‘Chicago-O’Hare International Airport (ORD) can even hypothetically permit six aircraft to land simultaneously, which would truly be a sight to behold,’ said Simple Flying.

Though this moment is rare, it is a beautiful phenomenon to witness from another aircraft.

It is unclear exactly where the floating plane was coming from or if there were passengers onboard.

SAN FRANCISCO – As Nordstrom becomes the latest company to acquire shares in downtown San Francisco In search of greener pastures, small businesses lacking those luxuries are still struggling to survive the city’s economic downturn.

After overcoming the COVID pandemic, small businesses in the inner city are facing increasing challenges in the wake of the pandemic.

Bota, a popular tapas restaurant near Union Square, has seen a significant drop in customer numbers over the past few months, with at least 40% fewer patrons year-over-year.

According to manager Steven Martinez, the restaurant’s struggle is real and it’s not just about the pandemic.

“If you look at the restaurant right now, it’s pretty much empty,” Martinez said. “We should be a lot busier, but we’re not. Without any kind of congress, with all the layoffs in town, it really hit our restaurant hard.”

The drop in shops is part of a trend that can be seen walking the streets near the restaurant. Because rental signs and empty shops are becoming more and more common.

“Four years ago it was a great place to come to. Now it’s just … with the violence, the crime, the homeless, even me walking down the street it’s not as shiny and pretty as it used to be,” Martinez said.

Nordstrom’s decision to move away from downtown San Francisco entirely is a wake-up call for small businesses like Bota. Martinez often wonders what might happen to Bota and his staff if things don’t get better.

District 6 Supervisor Matt Dorsey took to Twitter to express his disappointment at Nordstrom’s departure and stressed the importance of what he believes is the city’s need for a fully staffed police department.

That’s why I believe the voter-approved charter change of good government that I’m co-authoring with @Stefani4CA will be the fastest to make the biggest difference – by sending a strong message that San Franciscos care about *real* solutions use for security. (2/2)https://t.co/2Gxvpw2dzo

— Matt Dorsey (@mattdorsey) May 2, 2023

Martinez agreed, saying they are not giving up and are trying to find different ways to promote the restaurant and its lounge.

“We’re looking for different ways to get attention,” Martinez said.

Mayor London Breed’s inner city recovery plan includes some big tax breaks for businesses. The proposal would give companies in the hardest-hit areas a two-year delay on tax increases, while companies that move their offices to the city could receive a tax credit of up to $1 million for three years.

Breed is also exploring a possible 2024 vote action for broader tax reforms.

Earlier this month the city’s Bureau of Economic and Human Development and the nonprofit SF New Deal launched a new initiative to revitalize the neighborhood.

The Vacant to Vibrant initiative awards grants ranging from $3,000 to $8,000 for pop-up businesses and up to $5,000 for expenses and tenant improvements.

Air quality in San Francisco has remained dire over the past week, forcing the city’s residents to seek refuge inside – often at the expense of contacting loved ones, family members, and casual acquaintances. Suffice it to say that this period of isolation has affected the mental health of many people.

Amid a worsening pandemic and tumultuous sociopolitical panorama – one that is only exacerbated by red in tooth-and-nail polling ads – 2020 has proven to be a taxable year. And now: We’re fighting against Blade Runner-like skies and terrible air conditions that can compete with those of an operational coal mine. Keeping mental wellbeing intact has not been easy these days, which turns out to be depression and feelings of isolation in our large seven by seven large part of Northern California (and beyond).

“In Seattle, Washington, where it rains constantly, people get seasonal affective disorder, and that’s a form of depression caused by clouds, rain, fog, and that’s what we’re experiencing now,” said Andrea Zorbas, a medical doctor Psychology at ABC7.

Those moments of desperation, feelings of isolation, and listless depression felt by countless San Franciscans were only megaphone through the prevailing pandemic.

When COVID-19 first gripped society, clinical therapists in the Bay Area also had to adopt a not entirely new form of counseling: teletherapy. And some fear that a lack of “face-to-face meetings” only adds to the discomfort many Franciscans are currently feeling.

“I worry that face-to-face sessions are becoming rarer as psychiatrists realize they can save money by closing their physical offices and moving to fully online platforms,” somatic psychotherapist Erika Shershun told The Bold Italic in early May. “But the refreshing and energizing resonance between two people sharing the same space really cannot be replicated online. I’ve also noticed that video calls can make some people anxious or become self conscious. “

(Although the app boom has seen a surge in popularity since the early 2010s, many therapy seekers still prefer face-to-face sessions to those conducted over the phone, text, or videoconferencing. Many practicing therapists have also opted to move decided now fully online amid social distancing norms and mounting financial pressures.)

Now that the smoke smells in the cityscape, the locals are again spending hours after hours behind a screen (be it Netflix movies, digital drag shows or zoom teletherapy sessions) pondering the “existential” disasters of the year.

Ok, by popular demand, here is the latest smoke model. Note that this is considered experimental and so we haven’t been able to run an updated simulation since about 5 a.m. Even so, the idea of a modest improvement will be captured by tonight when southwest winds hit. pic.twitter.com/dZ1iS0cru6

– NWS Bay Area (@NWSBayArea) September 13, 2020

“Every day is an existential crisis,” said long-time Viola Chen from San Francisco to SFist. “I’ve only struggled with coronavirus before, but the forest fires also destroyed nature. It was one of my few joys during the pandemic.”

Chen, like most residents of the city, feels that she and her husband are going insane as this “annoying new normal” unfolds … turning thumbs and “anxiously reading the news” while crouching inside .

“Now [my husband and I] Stay cooped up at home, fearfully read the news, and see if my family needs to be evacuated in SoCal, “Chen continues.” I’m fucking scared of what’s going on here and along the west coast. “

This opaque atmosphere and hazy horizon also lead to episodes of rejected nostalgia.

“All the smoke reminds me of the fires we had three years ago and how masking was paramount in people’s minds,” explains SF-based creative Anthony Rogers to SFist. “I’ve stayed inside for a week since the air quality became unhealthy. It’s sad that people need a more visual indicator to say, gosh, I should wear a mask, I see ash raining.”

“For me, my state of mind fluctuated there,” Rogers grows, adding that the exhaustion he – and others, he speculates, also experience – is in part due to the “mental gymnastics” necessary to get through the day survive. “I think in the end it’s a lot of mental gymnastics on how going outside, whether it’s COVID or air quality, really affects your everyday life.”

Feeling sad and weird today (regarding: fires, hurricanes, plague, deadly racism, justified civil unrest, schooling for sad children at home, grinding election fatigue, economic hellhole, menopause insecurity, climate breakdown, adult acne)

^^^ Evergreen New normal in eternity forever squared

– evany (@evany) August 26, 2020

But it’s times like these when clinical therapists and psychologists like Zorbas himself recommend reaching out to a close friend or family member for support and comfort.

“At any time on the verge of crisis and the other person has to be the comforter,” one Zoe Young told ABC7, pointing out the very human need for community and connection in times of collective struggle.

Practice radical self-compassion now. It’s okay to feel wrong. Don’t synonymize your self-esteem with how much you can do in a single day. No one is going to recite your quarterly earnings numbers or celebrate how neat your inbox was at the time of your death when you were extolled. Try to stay present and engaged – and sow some seeds of hope that the future can indeed be better … if we proactively improve it.

To quote the words of TED Talk Extraordinaire, bestselling author, and Professor Brené Brown of the Graduate College of Social Work at the University of Houston, you are imperfect, you are wired for battle, but you are worthy of love and belonging.

*** If you are struggling with depression, suicide, and general discomfort, see a licensed psychologist. For life-threatening mental emergencies, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-8255 or San Francisco Suicide Prevention (SFSP) at 415-781-0500.

Smoke to sit all over the Bay Area all Friday when air quality levels hit 300+
