July 20, 2022

By Gabe Rodriguez Morrison

Tesla CEO Elon Musk says the company is interested in making its own HVAC system for homes. “It’s on the future product list,” says Elon.

Tesla is known for having remarkable air quality inside their electric vehicles. They went as far as integrating large HEPA filters into most of their models, which Tesla calls Bioweapon Defense Mode.

The HEPA filter removes 99.97% of dust, pollen, mold, bacteria, and any airborne particles with a size of 0.3 microns (µm). The filter is adapted into an efficient HVAC system to prevent decreasing the vehicle’s range.

Last year, when Tesla announced a software update to make the Model S HVAC system quieter, Elon was asked about Tesla making a home HVAC system, to which he replied:

“Oh man, home HVAC that is super energy efficient, quiet & purifies the air would be great. We developed it for the car, but it can be scaled up for home use.”

Residential HVAC is a product that Elon has been talking about for years and really wants Tesla to manufacture in the future. More recently Elon said that it is on Tesla’s list of future products.

It’s on the future product list. Especially important in places like Austin, which has next-level amounts of pollen in the air.

— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 18, 2022

Back in 2020, Elon Musk spoke about his desire to create a “super efficient” HVAC system for homes.

HVAC and AI seem to be two areas that interest Elon. Last year Elon said that Tesla would look into adding an AI-based HVAC system into their vehicles (and now possibly into homes).

The system could take environmental readings into account such as the air quality in the area, whether the car is in stop-and-go traffic, and automatically control car features that would improve the air quality inside the car.

The car could automatically enable air circulation or even turn on Bioweapon Defense Mode.

Tesla is working on many other projects right now and the HVAC is not in an advanced stage of development yet. It is unknown when Tesla will officially unveil an HVAC system but this news confirms that the HVAC system is in fact on a “list of products” and can be expected in the distant future.

I’m dying to do super efficient, quiet home HVAC with HEPA & water distillation. It’s weird, but I really want to do it.

Tesla’s bringing its collection of revolutionary electric vehicles to the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles.

The exhibit, dubbed “Inside Tesla: Supercharging the Electric Revolution,” will offer an in-depth look at the past, present, and future of the electric vehicle revolution. It will also showcase Tesla’s history, from its early and rough beginnings to the present global leader in EVs.

The exhibit will feature the most comprehensive collection of Tesla’s products to date. From early prototypes of the Model 3 from 2016 to the 2012 Model X prototype, as well as Tesla’s 1 millionth vehicle ever produced, these rare vehicles will be on display.

In addition to the vehicles, there will be information about the products and software that powers each car. Information about Tesla’s energy ecosystem, manufacturing automation, autopilot, and full self-driving expertise will be on full display. Attendees will also get an inside look at projects from SpaceX, The Boring Company, and Hyperloop.

“Tesla has revolutionized the automotive, EV, technology, and manufacturing spaces within a relatively short time span, begetting the question, ‘How did they do that?’” Terry L. Karges, Petersen Automotive Museum’s Executive Director, says in a press release shared with Not a Tesla App. “This exhibit strives to be a holistic walk-through of how the brand became a global phenomenon and further details what lies ahead.”

“Inside Tesla: Supercharging the Electric Revolution” will be open to the public on November 20 in the Mullin Family Grand Salon and Phillip Sarofim Porte Cochere on the museum’s first floor. The exhibit will be open until October 22, 2023.

For more information and how to purchase tickets, visit the Petersen Automotive Museum’s website.

The Financial Times recently reported that Tesla had talks with Glencore about taking a stake in the Swiss mining giant. It seems that Tesla and Glencore held some sort of discussions starting as early as last year. Discussions apparently continued until March this year when Glencore’s chief executive Gary Eagle visited Tesla’s Fremont Factory.

According to the FT, Tesla supposedly planned to buy a minority equity stake of 10% to 20% in Glencore but both parties were unable to reach an agreement. Tesla had concerns about Glencore’s coal mining business which conflicted with the EV manufacturer’s environmental goals.

However, at an investor’s conference today in New York, Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk said that Tesla “never contemplated investing in Glencore.” It’s not clear what led the FT to think that Tesla was considering investing in Glencore, but there may have been conversations between Tesla and Glencore as Tesla tries to secure mining materials.

Glencore does plan to align itself with the objectives of the Paris Agreement, reaching net-zero emissions by 2050 and shrinking its coal portfolio over time.

Glencore is the world’s largest trading house and producer of cobalt in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Australia, and Canada. A few years ago, Tesla secured a cobalt offtake agreement with the Swiss mining giant for Giga Shanghai and Giga Berlin.

Will Tesla invest in mining?

Although talks between Tesla and Glencore did not lead to Tesla considering an investment in the mining giant, the discussions hint that Tesla is interested in what’s happening in the mining industry.

Elon has said in the past that he prefers not to enter the mining industry, although Tesla will if they have to. Mining could become more of a constraint as Tesla increases vehicle production and scales the 4680 battery assembly line.

At the Q3 2022 earnings call, Elon was asked about vertically integrating into mining, and he responded:

“We’ll do whatever we have to. Whatever the limiting factor is, we’ll do. We do not artificially constrain ourselves. We don’t vertically integrate just for the hell of vertically integrating,” Elon Musk replied to Jonas.

“Like if there was a great supplier who’s better than us or we think is at least very good, or even where the economics of comparative advantage suggests that we should use that supplier, even if we could beat them, but we could use our resources to do something else that will be more productive, then we would in source in that case. But if we have to go mine, we will mine,” Musk explained.

The rise of EVs has caused many carmakers to become more involved in the mining industry to secure raw materials such as cobalt, lithium and nickel that are needed to manufacture batteries.

These types of discussions will likely continue as the need for such raw materials increases. It is possible that Tesla’s Master Plan Part 3 will involve the acquisition of a mining company so that Tesla can “scale to extreme size to shift humanity away from fossil fuels.”

Tesla owners can say goodbye to range anxiety. Despite Tesla’s vast network of more than 35,000 Supercharger stations, there are still areas that can raise the stress level as the charge goes down.

Those days will soon be a distant memory as more non-Tesla charging stations pop up. However, those stations do not have the sleek Tesla charger but a big, bulky one called CCS.

CCS, which stands for Combine Charging System comes in two types. Type 1 is mainly used in North America and South Korea, while CCS type 2 is the charging standard in Europe. They differ in the number of phases and maximum power they can provide.

Up until now, Tesla did not sell its CCS type 1 adapter in North America, but they did in South Korea. If you wanted one, you needed to import it or purchase the adapter through a third party. These adapters have been selling for a hefty price online, including eBay. Some sellers have the adapter listed for as much as $1000.

However, Tesla has finally added the adapter to its US store. Tesla owners will now be able to tap into a whole other charging network.

Tesla introduced the device into the store at the bargain basement price of $250 USD, a significantly better deal.

But, not all Teslas are CCS compatible. Some models can charge with CCS once the adapter is attached. However, several models, especially versions before 2020, are not CCS ready. There is a simple way to determine if your Tesla is suitable for CCS by taping the main menu, then Software and then Additional Vehicle Information. A box will pop up with a lot of information; scan for CCS adapter support. It will show ‘Not Installed’ or ‘CCS Enabled’.

Electronic Control Units (ECU) were available in the Tesla parts catalog for owners to retrofit their cars if they were incompatible. However, after the launch of the adapter in the Tesla store, visitors are asked to sign in before being able to purchase the adapter.

The website determined if the owner had a CCS-ready Tesla. If you didn’t then you were presented with this message: “This accessory requires a retrofit. Check back in early 2023 for availability.” Further down the page, there are instructions to check back in early 2023 for the availability of vehicles requiring a retrofit.

Tesla has also added messaging within its mobile app. If you navigate to the Service section, you’ll now see a message at the top of the app displaying ‘CCS Adapter Retrofit, check vehicle status.’

Unfortunately tapping on it doesn’t offer any additional information, asking owners to check back in early 2023 to schedule an appointment for a retrofit.

CCS stations reportedly reach speeds of more than 150kW in the US, and, unfortunately, they are the preferred plug of several manufacturers. There was a petition to have the Tesla charging hardware be the industry standard, but it appears that has failed. CCS is available at Electrify America and Electrify Canada, and several other third-party power suppliers.

Tesla may be ramping up how it uses simulation to train its Autopilot system. A report by Electrek asserts that it has sources claiming that the company is concentrating on a reproduction of San Francisco. The article includes an image of the recreation and states that Tesla is working with Real Engine on its simulation.

According to Electrek, the image below is part of Tesla’s simulation of San Francisco.

Tesla gave the world a look at how it uses simulation to advance the Autopilot program during the first AI Day in August of 2021 (recap).

AI Day

At the first AI Day Tesla talked about the use of using simulations to help train Autopilot. The video below is cued up to where they discuss a simulation.

Ashok Elluswamy, the Director of the Autopilot Program, showed a video that, at first glance, looked real other than an appearance by a Cybertruck. “I may say so myself. It looks very pretty,” said Elluswamy. He explained that the company is investing heavily in using simulation. “It helps when data is difficult to source. As large as our fleet is (FSD Beta users), it can still be hard to get some crazy scenes,” the director explained while showing a rendering of two people and a dog running in the middle of a busy highway. “This is a rare scene, but it can happen, and Autopilot still needs to handle it when it happens,” said Elluswamy.

It appears that Tesla has jumped on Fortnite’s Battle Bus by teaming up with Epic Games and its development platform – Unreal Engine. Fortnite is one of the most popular games of all time, with 80 million subscribers and 4 million daily users, and it was created with Unreal Engine. Epic flexed its creative muscles when it gathered experts to create The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 Experience. The goal was to “blur the boundaries between cinematic and game, inviting us to ask — what is real?” The project spotlight on Unreal Engine shows just how incredibly realistic a simulation can be.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WU0gvPcc3

After Elluswamy explained that the company is investing in simulation, it makes sense that Tesla would be hiring several positions with simulation in the job description. Electrek pointed out one posting for Autopilot Rendering Engineer. The posting states the successful candidate “will contribute to the development of Autopilot simulation by enabling and supporting the creation of photo-realistic 3D scenes that can accurately model the driving experience in a wide range of locales and conditions.” Tesla prefers the candidates to have experience working with Unreal Engine.

While not new, this does show that Tesla is doubling down on efforts to improve Autopilot. It has recently rolled out Full Self Driving to 60,000 more users, bringing the FSD Beta program to 160,000 in North America.

We can only guess how many thousands of simulations the Autopilot team is conducting to add to the data the Beta testers are collecting. It seems unlikely that Tesla has only created the City by the Bay in its simulations. Perhaps Elluswamy will show more renderings at the second AI Day on September 30th.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Manager Terry Francona calls it playing “clean baseball.” In other words, playing baseball without mistakes.

He knew that would be a challenge at times this season with the youngest roster in the big leagues. One of those challenges arrived Saturday night in the Guardians’ 4-2 loss to the Giants at Progressive Field.

In the eighth inning, with the score tied, 2-2, a botched double play and a wild pitch allowed the Giants to score twice against Nick Sandlin (0-1) on the way to their fourth straight win.

Brandon Belt started the eighth with an infield hit to third. First baseman Owen Miller put a glove on Jose Ramirez’s throw, but Belt’s hand knocked the ball loose. Sandlin struck out Darin Ruf, but allowed a single to Austin Slater and walked Brandon Crawford to load the bases.

Wilmer Flores sent a hard grounder to Ernie Clement at second. Clement made a nice stop and threw to Amed Rosario for the force at second, but Miller was late getting to first and Rosario had to double pump. The delay allowed Flores to be safe and belt to score for a 3-2 lead. Sandlin followed with a wild pitch that skipped past rookie catcher Bryan Lavastida as Slater scored for a 4-2 edge.

Dominic Leone (1-0), who pitched for Cleveland in 2020, pitched a scoreless seventh for the win. Jake McGee pitched the ninth for his first save of the season, allowing the first two batters to reach base. After Clement bounced into a force at second, McGee struck out pinch hitter Oscar Mercado with runners on the corners and then induced a bouncer to the mound from Myles Straw to end the game.

On the double play that wasn’t turned, Miller was on his way to the middle of the diamond to take the cutoff throw from center field because he anticipated the ball was getting through. When Clement gloved the ball, Miller had to backtrack to the bag.

“We talked to him about it,” Francona said. “I want to make sure we’re just not beating him over the head with it. We’re moving him around and we just explained, ‘Hey, slow down. Think about what your priorities are.’ Those are things that are going to happen, hopefully not every night, with youth. There is going to be some growing pains at times.”

Miller said he used the wrong footwork on the play. There is nothing wrong with what he’s doing at the plate. He went 2-for-2 with two walks and is leading the AL with a .560 (14-for-25) batting average.

“My footwork got mixed up and I took a wrong step,” said Miller. “It just took me a little bit longer to get back to the base.”

As for his success at the plate, Miller said, “I always like to say, ‘Don’t let early numbers foot you good or bad.’ I just try to keep a level head and get to work each day.”

The Guardians’ feast-or-famine offense is once again on a diet of bread and water. They scored one run in their first two games of the season, 44 runs in the next four and three in losses to the Giants on Friday and Saturday nights.

Straw pulled the Guardians into a 2-2 tie in the seventh with a double off the wall in left. Miller opened the inning with a double. Miller leads the AL with seven doubles and eight extra-base hits.

Giants starter Anthony DeSclafani retired the next two batters, but Straw doubled to erase San Francisco’s 2-1 lead. When the ball left the bat, it appeared Straw may have homered off DeSclafani, but a strong wind blowing in from left field kept the ball in the park.

San Francisco’s pitchers entered the game limiting the opposition to a .141 batting average with two out.

The Guardians loaded the bases in the sixth as Jarlin Garcia walked Josh Naylor and Miller with two out. The inning ended when pinch-hitter Clement grounded into a force out at second.

Straw opened the game with a triple down the left field line. He was called out by third-base umpire Paul Emmel, but the Guardians challenged and the call was overturned to give Straw his first triple of the season. Steven Kwan went down on a shallow fly ball to left, but Jose Ramirez sent a sacrifice fly to center to score Straw for a 1-0 lead. It was Ramirez’s AL-leading 15th RBI.

Cal Quantrill protected the lead through four innings, but he threw a lot of pitches to do so. In the fifth, following a one-out single by Thairo Estrada, Steven Duggan doubled off the wall in left to put runners on second and third. The double came on Quantrill’s 79th pitch.

He came back to strike out Joey Bart on a 3-2 pitch, but walked Mike Yastrzemski to load the bases. Lefty Logan Allen relieved to face lefty Brandon Belt, but Belt singled through the middle for a 2-1 lead — it was the first base hit in 23 at-bats for Belt against Cleveland. Allen stopped the Giants right there as Darin Ruf went down on a fly ball to right.

“He competed so well that I really wanted to give him a chance to get out of the fifth,” said Francona. “I probably left him in one hitter longer than I was comfortable with, but I thought he’d earned it.”

Quantrill allowed two runs on two hits in 4 2/3 innings. He throws 91 pitches, striking out two and walking three.

DeSclafani allowed two runs on five hits in 4 2/3 innings. He struck out four with no walks.

Next: RHP Aaron Civale (0-0, 5.40) will face the Giants and LHP Alex Wood (0-0, 4.5) on Sunday at 1:40 pm Bally Sports Great Lakes and WTAM will carry the game.

Photo: Quinn Harris – USA TODAY Sports

We thought the offseason fireworks would wait until next week but the Minnesota Vikings showed some of their hand on Thursday. General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and the new leaders at TCO Performance Center hired and retained multiple coaches for O’Connell’s staff on Thursday.

Most notedly, a new defensive coordinator — 65-year-old Ed Donatell — who’s spent the last three seasons in the same position for the Denver Broncos and has 42 years of NFL coaching experience. The Vikings also want to retain wide receivers coach, Keenan McCardell, who reportedly clicked really well with Justin Jefferson last season.

Source says the #Vikings will name Ed Donatell as their new defensive coordinator next week under new coach Kevin O’Connell. Donatell, 65, was Denver’s defensive coordinator the past three seasons.

— Chris Tomasson (@christomasson) February 10, 2022

Donatell Hire Signals Winds of Change.

The Ed Donatell hire isn’t a complete surprise, for a couple of reasons. First, his age and experience. It has been rumored since 36-year-old Kevin O’Connell was hired that the Vikings liked the idea of pairing the young, first-time head coach with a defensive coordinator who’s been around the block. Donatell and Adofo-Mensah worked together when their careers crossed paths in San Francisco and reportedly got along well.

But there are a few questions about Ed Donatell and it starts with the 3-4 defensive scheme he’s expected to implement. Look, the Minnesota Vikings have been a bad 4-3 defense for a couple of years, under Mike Zimmer. But as currently constructed, they’d be a much, much worse 3-4 defense.

Eric Kendrick’s No Longer Makes Sense?

On Thursday for example, Paul Allen and Ben Leber discussed on KFAN radio whether or not Eric Kendricks can be an effective linebacker in a 3-4 scheme. Kendricks has been an all-pro caliber player during most of his entire 7-year career, including a career-high 143 tackles in 2021.

But there are legitimate questions surrounding his size and capabilities both on the edge or in the middle of a 3-4 scheme, something Allen has clearly been struggling with. The conversation starts at the 21:00 mark below and goes for a few minutes. I only typed out one of the more interesting parts.

—

ALL: “If I say, ‘Eric Kendricks is not a 3-4 linebacker’, am I overstating it? Am I wrong? Because I’ve said it like 3 times. I just think he’s too small for the inside and he’s not…”

LIVER: “… and he’s not an outside guy, yeah. That’s the direction I’m going. I gotta be careful here because I think he’s such a good player, he’s such a good athlete and he has such amazing instincts. To say that he can’t make the transition, I think it’s foolish. I think it’s going to be difficult for him, though. It’s a defense, in my mind, that doesn’t speak to his specific skillset and I think it’s going to enhance the weaknesses that he has.”

“You are [as an inside LB in a 3-4 defense] taking on a fair amount of more blockers. We’re not talking fullbacks and tight ends. We’re talking guards and tackles. That is not his strong point. He does not have long arms. He’s not a thumper when it comes to getting off blocks. It doesn’t come natural for him to play off blocks and you do have to two-gap a lot as an inside linebacker [in a 3-4 scheme].”

92Noon Show – KFAN

If Eric Kendricks doesn’t fit the new scheme, the Vikings could cut him and save $7.5 million. I doubt it would come to that. Finding a trade partner who would deal for an all-pro caliber 4-3 middle linebacker shouldn’t be a problem. But if the Vikings decide to move on from Kendricks, who in the fuck are they going to keep?

Danielle Hunter

Well, the conversation starts with Danielle Hunter, who is due an $18 million roster bonus if he isn’t moved, cut or extended by March 20. If there’s any freak athlete on the Minnesota Vikings who would transition to a 3-4 scheme with relative ease, it’s a healthy Danielle Hunter.

But does the new regime see it that way? Hunter is an Andre Patterson product and posted a picture to social media of the two hugging after it was announced that Patterson was hired by the New York Giants on Thursday. Premier pass rushers are difficult to come by but the Vikings front office could save a lot of money and gain some legitimate draft capital, should they decide to move the oft-injured 4-3 defensive end before 3/20.

Easily expandable

If the Vikings choose a full-on defensive rebuild, which seems more and more likely as the days pass by, they could easily flip most of Mike Zimmer’s defense in just one offseason. From a contract standpoint (according to spotrac.com), the Vikings would save money by trading or cutting almost everyone.

Danielle Hunter: $18.6M Saved

Eric Kendricks: $7.5M Saved

Harrison Smith: $5.7M saved

Michael Pierce: $6.2M saved

—

Anthony Barr: FA

Patrick Peterson: FA

Some of those players may have trade value, like noted above. Expendable contracts would only make negotiations with other teams easier. The only contract on defense that is ‘uncuttable’ is Dalvin Tomlinson’s. If the Minnesota Vikings were to cut or trade Tomlinson, they’d have to pay a $10 million cap penalty. He’s only on the books for $7.5 million this season.

Both Tomlinson and Pierce, unlike others, would probably fit pretty well in a 3-4 scheme. Defensive backs like Cam Dantzler, Kris Boyd, Camryn Bynum and other playing on rookie deals don’t matter in this conversation. Their money is minimal and they have very little contract power.

In other words, the options are limitless. If Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and Co want to blow up Mike Zimmer’s defense and start over from the ground up, it’ll be relatively easy for them to do. At least from a money standpoint.

(KMOV.com) — As the No. 4 seed in the NFC entering the playoffs, the Rams needed some upsets on the other side of the bracket in order to host the NFC Championship Game at Stan Kroenke’s favorite little money pit, SoFi Stadium.

When the San Francisco 49ers defeated the No. 1 seed Green Bay Packers on Saturday night, that window of opportunity opened for the Rams to host the game assuming they could get past Tom Brady and the Buccaneers on Sunday. The Rams put on an impressive showing in eliminating the defending Super Bowl champions in Tampa, setting them up to host the 49ers next weekend.

In most circumstances, that would be something for a team to celebrate. But the Rams in LA don’t exactly have a dome-field advantage when it comes to facing the 49ers.

When the Rams and 49ers last played at SoFi Stadium in Week 18 this season—a win that San Francisco needed just to sneak into the playoffs—49ers fans flooded the stands with red and made their presence known.

Listening to the crowd noise on television, you’d have thought the 49ers were the home team for that game. Your eyes would have told a similar story. Apart from the blue end zone and electronic signage visible in the background behind 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel, that’s a Rams road game:

With a trip to the Super Bowl on the line this time around, the Rams are trying to do something about it.

Ticketmaster screenshots began circulating Sunday as the Rams noted that public sales for the NFC Championship Game would be restricted to residents of the Greater Los Angeles region. The alert on the ticket-broker’s website stated that LA residency would be verified at checkout based on the billing address associated with the purchaser’s credit card.

It’s a desperate ploy, an example of ‘prevent defense’ that likely won’t work out as the team intends.

The cheapest current ticket for Sunday’s NFC Championship Game between the Rams and 49ers at SoFi Stadium is over $600. One ticket broker just told me, “It’s going to be a sea of red again. Rams fans are growing, but they aren’t paying $600 for nosebleed tickets. Not happening.” pic.twitter.com/RWC4EsUYxk

— Arash Markazi (@ArashMarkazi) January 23, 2022

It’s as though Kroenke and Kevin Demoff are deluded into believing 49ers fans don’t know anyone in LA that can lend a hand in facilitating a ticket purchase.

And don’t be surprised, Enos, when Los Angeles residents assist with those requests from their San Francisco fan friends, because LA simply doesn’t care about winning Rams football the way St. Louis would have.

That’s something you’d have realized if, you know, you had ever bothered to put a capable product on the field for the final decade of the team’s time in the Lou.

Of course, we know this by now in St. Louis. Rams brass built a consistently listless team in the years before bolting for Los Angeles in 2016. They failed to achieve even one winning season from 2004 to 2015. They lied and deceived anyone in their path en route to a relocation that was an outright violation of the NFL’s own relocation guidelines. They recently agreed to cough up $790 million to St. Louis in a settlement that proves they darn well knew it.

And even putting everything else aside, from a pure football perspective, it really is a crime.

Since moving to Los Angeles, Kroenke and Co. have completely shifted gears. Wouldn’t you know it, they started trying to win. Signing marquee free agents and executing trades to bring in winning players. It’s as though they began paying attention to the draft. With a third-round pick in 2017, they found Cooper Kupp.

Look, you don’t have to like the Rams—I sure as heck don’t—but even the most embittered former St. Louis Rams fans would have to admit that Kupp is a superstar. He won the wide receiver triple crown this season, leading the league in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. He’s certainly the kind of player St. Louis would have fallen in love with.

STL would be losing its ever-loving mind, donating plasma and taking out second mortgages to support a Rams team like this one. That’s just a fact. https://t.co/0iC0gvheMb

— Brenden Schaeffer (@bschaeffer12) January 24, 2022

One thing is for certain. If this game were being played in St. Louis, you wouldn’t have players’ wives begging people on social media not to sell their tickets to the opposing team’s fan base.

If you @RamsNFL fans want to sell your tickets – I’ll buy them. Just DO NOT sell them to the other team PLEASE!

— Melissa Whitworth (@mrs_whit77) January 23, 2022

Los Angeles has a Rams team that St. Louis would have bent over backwards to support, and their city doesn’t seem to care. The Rams are so concerned about the apathy from their new home fans that they feel the need to play some prevent defense long before the game even kicks off.

SAN JOSE (KPIX) – An Arizona woman testified in the fraud trial against Elizabeth Holmes on Wednesday that Theranos gave her a false positive blood test for HIV.

Erin Tompkins, of Phoenix, Arizona, testified that she became interested in Theranos after reading an article in Fortune Magazine.

CONTINUE READING: Suspect of “productive” retail theft arrested; Used self checkout kiosks to steal from the San Francisco Target store

In 2015 she got a blood test from a fingertip at a location in Theranos and liked that it was affordable. But their results were positive for HIV antibodies.

She got emotional and said she had no help from Theranos customer service.

So she got a second test from another lab that came back negative and has since tested negative.

It was a dramatic departure from the lengthy cross-examination of San Francisco-based hedge fund manager and investor Brian Grossman.

Grossman testified for prosecutors that Elizabeth Holmes lied to him, which resulted in his company losing $ 96 million.

CONTINUE READING: Opioid Overdose Deaths Rise to 100,000 Annually in US; Crisis felt in neighborhoods in the Bay Area

But defense attorney Lance Wade tried to turn the tables, showing that Grossman based his investment on his own overly optimistic and shaky calculations that Theranos could be worth over $ 20 billion by 2020.

“You are trying to say that the investment decision was made on the basis of this witness’s hype, the allegations that this witness made, not Elizabeth Holmes. They are trying to create reasonable doubts, “said Michele Hagan, a former prosecutor and legal expert who is following the process.

Trying to keep to his schedule, the judge expressed frustration with the defense attorneys, pointing out that Grossman’s cross-examination had lasted six and a half hours, while the face-to-face indictment lasted an hour and a half.

“The defense has the right to ask all kinds of questions,” said Hagan.

Sit up, listen carefully, and barely move a muscle during the entire process, was Elizabeth Holmes. She has faced multiple cases of criminal fraud and conspiracy. These charges could jail her for up to 20 years.

MORE NEWS: UPDATE: Earthquake swarm is nerve-wracking in Danville, San Ramon

Calling their final witnesses, prosecutors have previously said that they will likely close their case by Friday.
