SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Stephen Curry keeps flying it from anywhere on the ground and is suddenly within striking distance to overtake Ray Allen as the all-time leader of the NBA in 3-pointers.

Curry had seven more threesomes en route to 31 points and eight assists, Andrew Wiggins hit a career high of eight threes and finished with 28 points, and the Golden State Warriors beat Orlando Magic 126-95 on Monday night.

CONTINUE READING: Scott Peterson returns to the San Mateo County courtroom for re-sentencing Wednesday

Curry hit a half-court shot to hit the buzzer in the first quarter, shooting 8 of 16. He now has 2,958 3-pointers in the regular season, 15 of Allen’s 2,973.

Could he make it to Portland Wednesday night before the Warriors hit the streets again? Coach Steve Kerr doesn’t put that behind the reigning scoring champion and two-time NBA MVP, saying it could “absolutely” happen.

“He’s Steph Curry so anything is possible,” said Kerr. “He took half-field shots in back-to-back games.”

Before the game, after his mind-boggling pre-game routine, Curry shot a full-field shot from the distant tunnel in the Chase Center and narrowly missed it.

Wiggins scored 17 of his points in the third quarter, hitting three 3s in a row over a range of 1:14. He finished 9 of 17 on the floor to help Golden State recover from an 11-game home winning streak that ended in a 112-107 loss to San Antonio Saturday night.

Jordan Poole struggled to find his shot, scoring 4 of 15 for 12 points and contributing seven assists and seven rebounds.

Gary Harris scored 17 points and led the Magic, which lost for the ninth time in 10 games.

Cole Anthony had a difficult sequence late in the second when he committed a loose ball foul, the turnover was then whistled for a technical which allowed Curry to score five unanswered points – a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws for the technical.

That burst helped the Warriors build a 65-44 lead at break, and they pushed on in the third step. Nemanja Bjelica added 10 points from the bench.

Even Bjelica sees Curry work before the games as they are together to warm up before the game.

CONTINUE READING: Cloverdale convenience store suspect wanted for armed robbery

“He’s the best shooter ever,” said Bjelica. “I’m glad I can see it in person. He is great.”

Wendell Carter Jr. added 14 points and 12 rebounds for Orlando.

STELLAR D

The Warriors have kept their opponents under 50% off the field for 26 straight games last season, which limits the magic to 43.4% (33 for 76) – 11 for 38 from the deep.

TIP-INS

Magic: The Magic were outrebounded 43-38. … Orlando has lost nine times in a row since a 102-94 win on December 3, 2012 on the Golden State home floor. … The Magic have a seven-game loss.

Warriors: G Klay Thompson will be staying home from the next road trip and continuing his rehab after surgery for a ruptured Achilles tendon. … Otto Porter Jr. returned after being out on Saturday with an injury to his left foot. … Swingman Andre Iguodala, still struggling with right knee pain, missed his 10th straight game but is back on the ground to train and that’s seen as encouraging progress. “I think he will play on this upcoming trip. He’s doing a lot better, ”said Kerr. “He has improved a lot and should be playing soon.” … Bjelica scored double digits for the fifth time. … Rookies Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody had returned from the Santa Cruz Warriors in the G League and played, with Kuminga scoring nine points and a soaring dunk in 12 minutes.

NEXT

Magic: In Sacramento on Wednesday night, six of the last nine lost to the Kings overall, but with wins in eight of the last 13 in the California capital.

Warriors: Host Portland Wednesday night after beating the Trail Blazers 118-103 at home on November 26th.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Stephen Curry hit an NBA season high of 50 points with nine 3-pointers, 10 assists and seven rebounds, almost single-handedly leading the Golden State Warriors past Atlanta Hawks 127-113 on Monday night.

Only Hall of Famers Wilt Chamberlain and Rick Barry had registered a 50 point, 10 assist game in the history of the Warriors franchise.

CONTINUE READING: COVID: UCSF health expert optimistic vaccines, boosters will prevent spikes in cases this winter

Curry dominated for long stretches and danced for joy, repeatedly raising his arms in the air to encourage anyone fortunate enough to witness another of his brilliant feats.

He scored Golden State’s first 13 points, then 10 on the track in the third before dropping for Juan Toscano-Anderson’s 3-pointer points, who made it 102-85 after the Warriors’ spectacular 41-point quarter.

Play along with the chants of “MVP! MVP! “Curry startled the fans with 8:48 minutes in the first game when he appeared to have injured his left shoulder. He was examined by medical staff during a Hawks break and could be seen nodding and moving his arms to shake his shoulder before causing cheers if he stayed in the game.

Curry made his 10th 50-point game of his career and already had 24 points in 7v12 shooting at halftime with five 3-pointers.

He landed 14 for 28 off the floor and made all 13 of his free throws as the Warriors won their fifth straight win. They keep their opponents at 95.8 points during the unbeaten route.

Trae Young had 28 points and nine assists in Atlanta’s fourth straight loss and sixth on seven points.

Jordan Poole added 16 points and Andrew Wiggins 13 for Golden State (9-1) in the second game of an encounter.

The Warriors fell back 55:40 in the second game, but came within 65:61 at halftime before their decisive third.

Hawks trainer Nate McMillan is delighted with Gary Payton II, son of McMillan’s veteran teammate Gary Payton at the Seattle SuperSonics.

McMillan remembers the younger Payton, who used to hang around Sonics’ headquarters.

“Little G. I just remember running across the court with a ball and following his pops,” said McMillan. “To see him grow, he worked his way into this league and he earned his right to a place on a squad and he contributes to that. He plays great basketball. “

TIP-INS

Hawks: The Hawks had a three-game winning streak against the Warriors, losing for the 10th time in the last 12 on the Golden State home floor. … Atlanta fell to 1-6 on the road and has lost its last five street games. … The Hawks’ 18 turnovers resulted in 23 Warriors points.

Warriors: Warriors assistant Mike Brown wasn’t feeling well and didn’t attend the game. … Golden State is 9-1 for the first time since starting 10-1 in 2018-19. … Veteran Andre Iguodala was back after a break to rest his aching left hip against Houston on Sunday night. He played in his 1,200. Career game and was the only active players at the time, along with LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony. … F Otto Porter Jr. was out to protect an injury to his left foot. “He’s obviously been messed up in the last few years so that’s all part of maintenance and making sure we do things the right way,” said coach Steve Kerr. “It should be ready to go Wednesday and it makes sense to release it tonight, but we’ll see. He was fine. He’s really well positioned, but yes, we have to be smart, especially at the beginning of the season. “

NEXT

Hawks: In Utah on Tuesday night.

Warriors: Host the Timberwolves on Wednesday night before heading to Chicago on Friday to complete an eight-game home stand on a franchise record.

Stephen Curry returned Monday from a tailbone contusion that cost him five games. The Warriors point guard plans to renew its chemistry-building efforts with rookie center James Wiseman.

“We’re working on putting some repetitions together, even in practice, so he can somehow understand the angles, my pace, how I see these readings, how teams will defend me, and how he can make these subtle adjustments.” Curry said before Monday’s game against Chicago. “To be able to set up good screens, roll, find the right angles of attack and the chemistry for the passes that I do. The more time you’re out there, that’s a big part of what we do. “

Pick and roll is a big part of what Curry does – mostly with Draymond Green – as the two-time MVP joins the conversation about the award again. At 7.95, Curry’s net rating average (points per 100 possessions on the floor minus 100 points allowed per possession on the floor) was only second behind LeBron James 9.20 until Sunday.

As stellar as Curry’s numbers are this season, they are terrible when Wiseman is on the court.

Two-man combinations of Curry and Kent Bazemore (plus-129 cumulative), Bazemore and Green (plus-101), and Curry and Green (plus-99) form the Warriors’ best two-player groups to outperform an opponent .

Curry and Wiseman had been on the field for 440 minutes and were beaten by 79 points. The only worse teammates were Wiseman and Kelly Oubre Jr. (minus-105), Oubre and Andrew Wiggins (minus-119), Oubre and Eric Paschall (minus-124), and Wiggins and Wiseman (minus-164).

“He loves basketball. He cares. You can see it in his body language, ”said Bob Myers, General Manager of Warriors, of Wiseman, number 2 overall. “He has to learn how much he cares about it and how to overcome some of the mistakes. But he’s a really wonderful kid. He wants it. You build on that with someone with such raw talent that they bring in the work. He puts in work, and that ultimately shows up consistently. “

Wiseman has had a season like no other. At 19, an NCAA investigation restricted him to three college games in Memphis. Without a summer league, he reported to the training camp, a positive coronavirus test cost him the exhibition season.

He was pushed into the starting XI in a marquee game in Brooklyn, only to lose the spot after 16 games. A wrist injury left him incapacitated for 11 games, and a missed coronavirus test resulted in him sitting on the bench against the Clippers for three-quarters.

“I just want him to have fun. I want him to relax and play. He’s 19, ”said Warriors head coach Steve Kerr. “This stuff can’t happen overnight. As much as everyone wants it to happen overnight – be it James, our coaching staff, our organization or our fans – it doesn’t happen overnight. So we have to help James with this process. Really, the best he can do is enjoy himself.

“It’s very stressful being number 2 and being in the spotlight and all that. Things haven’t been going that way lately, but he’s so talented. He’ll be fine, but I’d love to see him relax and play. “

Curry can certainly help with all of this, and he wants to.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – Stephen Curry’s pre-game warm-up had a little extra flair with so many people watching again. He loved seeing all the familiar ushers as he drove to the arena three hours early. He thanked fans for their patience and perseverance during a pandemic before pointing out.

Curry scored 32 points, Draymond Green added 19 assists and 12 rebounds, and the Golden State Warriors greeted fans for the first time since the pandemic began by beating the Denver Nuggets 118-97 on Friday night.

“Just a little different from inside and outside the arena,” said Curry. “I know you have to take it slow and obviously protect everyone, but increase the number of people who can get into the building and slowly but surely return to a full, overcrowded home where this energy is unmatched. We on the ground, we live on it. You try to make it when it’s an empty arena, you do your best, but it makes a big difference with the fans. “

Nikola Jokic scored 19 points for Denver in a matchup of MVP candidates with Curry, who, 33.7 seconds back in the third game, received a rare technique when attempting a foul call. Michael Porter Jr. led the nuggets with 26 points, hitting seven 3-pointers.

Denver striker Will Barton dropped into the game 59 seconds with a strained right Achilles tendon and never returned. It hit the baseline awkwardly under the basket of nuggets.

“Our boys have regrouped,” said Nuggets coach Michael Malone. “Will has perished. He went down early and then we had to find other guys to jump in and play. But I think you all are fishing for the fact that we lost this game to Will’s injury. Don’t excuse us. Will Barton went down, he’s hurt, and we sympathize with him. But we all get paid on the first and the 15th, do your job. We didn’t do our job tonight – not me, the players didn’t do it and that’s unacceptable. “

Fans shouted “MVP! MVP! “For Curry, who scored 11 for 18 with four 3s and also got eight rebounds in his 12th 30-point performance in the last 13 games and the 29th of the season.

“I’m not surprised. I think it’s a no-brainer,” Mychal Mulder said.

Jordan Poole knocked down a corner 3-pointer to hit the buzzer that ended the third when Golden State received another big boost from its bench to win a third straight home game. Poole finished with 15 points and Kelly Oubre Jr. 23 in his new reserve role.

“It’s a new role for Kelly, but you can see how he accepted it, how he handled it,” said coach Steve Kerr.

The Warriors started with nine of their last 13 games at home – where they had not played with fans in the building for 409 days. The number of participants was 1,935, with the team hoping for around 2,000 people.

Fans were greeted with a special video board message – Welcome Home – a limited number of player family members and guests were the only ones in attendance.

The exhausted Warriors greeted Juan Toscano-Anderson from the concussion log after suffering a dangerous fall and cutting his head in Boston last week. He started at 6:08 a.m. in the first quarter to great cheers and contributed nine points and eight rebounds.

“Having fans is always fun, especially after playing in empty gyms,” said Toscano-Anderson. “I appreciate all the fans. Greetings to all important employees who made this possible. “

Golden State shot 53.6% and had 39 assists.

“You have to find a way to get stops and we just didn’t want that tonight,” said Malone, disgusted, whose Denver team shot 38.6%.

CURRY THE ENTERTAINER

Curry clearly loved getting fans back for entertainment by going through a dazzling warmup in which he kicked basketballs up towards the huge video scoreboard and had fun – waving to a cheering group above the tunnel after he finished his pre-game job would have.

The two-time MVP took a moment before the hint to thank the fans for their patience in this “unprecedented situation”.

“There was so much energy in the building tonight and a reminder of what we missed,” said Kerr. “Just I guess a few thousand, but it felt like a lot more. Just such a welcome sight. “

FIRST FAN

Anthony Calvo, 27, from San Ramon, was honored as the first fan to be honored at the Chase Center. Brandon Schneider, COO of New Warriors, greeted him at the door around 4:50 pm after Calvo arrived at 10:30 am to take his COVID test

A Redwood City employee who is helping procure school supplies for youth in need planned to connect with Ms. Kerissa after the game for her planned weekend getaway in Big Sur.

He received a # 1 First Fan Back Uniform and signed equipment from the team.

TIP-INS

Nuggets: Barton was injured on the Golden State home floor after Jamal Murray tore his cruciate ligament in his left knee and had to undergo surgery on April 12 against the Warriors here late on game day. … Denver had won its two previous ones on the road.

Warriors: F Damion Lee and G Kent Bazemore are both on the league’s COVID-19 health and safety protocols. … The Warriors didn’t train on Thursday or hold a shootaround on Friday and Kerr expects limited practice on the track to keep his team fresh. “The players need more rest than work at this point,” he said.

NEXT

Nuggets: Host Houston in a road-home back-to-back on Saturday to beat this season’s three matchups with the Rockets.

Warriors: Host Sacramento on Sunday after losing four out of five to the Kings.
