A fast-growing Southern California construction company has expanded into Sonoma County, serving a market familiar to the founder.

San Diego-based Same Day Heating, Cooling, Plumbing opened a second location in Windsor in January, according to an announcement Friday. The 5,000-square-foot location at 600 American Way employs 22 people, the company told the Business Journal.

Owner Jonathan Winterstellar was general manager of One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning in Santa Rosa for a year and later held the same position for four and a half years at the company now called Moore Home Services, also in Santa Rosa, the Journal reported. He founded Same Day in early 2019 in his hometown of San Diego and left Moore shortly after it was acquired by a private equity fund in 2019, according to the press release and Journal reporting.

“I am thrilled to be back in the North Bay, a region I know and love,” Wintersteller said in the announcement. “At Same Day, we're not just about providing service; we want to create a different culture in the HVAC industry. Our focus is on building personal relationships with our customers and creating a work environment where our team is valued. I look forward to bringing that ethos to the North Bay region.”

Same Day ranked 84th on Inc. magazine's list of fastest-growing independent companies in the Pacific Rim in 2024, with revenue growth of 165% during 2021-2023. With the new Windsor location, the company employs 94 people.

Moore made the Inc. 5000 list for the sixth and final time in 2019, ranking 1,999th with three-year revenue growth of 201%. He finished 2018 with revenue of $27.6 million and 140 employees, the Journal reported.

The company is led by President and CEO Zachary Johnson, who most recently served as general manager for Republic Services' California and Utah operations, according to Same Day. Johnson holds a master's degree in sports management and an MBA from the University of Michigan.

Jeff Quackenbush covers wine, construction and real estate. Reach him at jquackenbush@busjrnl.com or 707-521-4256.

Correction, March 12, 2024: Jonathan Winterstellar's name was misspelled.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — Residents of a San Francisco building that has flooded twice since June are reporting theft and people going inside their vacant apartments.

On June 10, at 2:27 a.m., Kate Sutherland received a notification. A person had been detected inside her vacant apartment at 33 Tehama.

“Opened the video and I saw a random person just wandering through my unit and taking a video on flash. It sent chills down my spine,” said Sutherland.

The eerie video caught what looked like a person moving slowly in the dark. The building had been vacant for several days after a water main broke and flooded the building. Kate ended her lease four days after this video was recorded.

RELATED: Residents at SF luxury apartment displaced after pipe bursts, flooding all 35 floors

Luz Pena: “How did they explain what happened?”

Kate Sutherland: “They really know how to explain it. They just kept saying that it was unauthorized.”

Kate’s story is the tip of the iceberg. This week another resident captured a contractor using the bathroom inside one of the apartments and taking something on their way out. Hines, the real estate company that owns the building, confirmed the theft that took place Monday, saying in part:

“A contractor who was making repairs in one of the units at 33 Tehama was recorded taking items from the unit. This contractor was terminated immediately.”

In Stephanie Sunwoo’s case, thousands of dollars went missing from her bank account this morning.

“Two fraudulent checks cashed in my account. My bank account both in the amount of over $1,500 each,” said Stephanie Sunwoo, 33 Tehama resident.

RELATED: Residents at flooded San Francisco luxury building may not be able to return home until 2023

Sunwoo says her entire checkbook is inside her nightstand in her vacant apartment.

“It is really alarming to think that somebody is rummaging through my bedroom through my nightstand, grabs a box full of my checkbooks and now I have deep fears of identity theft,” said Sunwoo.

Residents are also reporting theft in the bike room.

“Our bike room was completely looted. There are remains of people’s bikes. Some people’s bikes are completely missing,” said Sunwoo.

Regarding theft, Hines said in part:

“While we haven’t confirmed the validity of these allegations yet, we have temporarily removed all contractor access to resident units while we work on a solution to increase security measures.”

RELATED: Residents report 2nd water leak, presumed theft at luxury SF apartments

And for residents like Maarya Abbasi, these reports make them want to get all of their belongings out of the building fast. She says Hines is making it difficult.

“It just feels like the nightmare that never ends,” said Maarya Abbasi.

Hines is not allowing residents inside the building and is only letting them use movers assigned by Hines.

“That is something I also asked Tehama ‘What is the recourse if our belongings get damaged?’ All I was told was is that we would have to work through our own renters insurance,” said Abbasi.

Hines said they are providing locked storage pods to residents who have scheduled move-outs through the end of the month.

As to bikes getting stolen, they said they don’t know if any bikes have been stolen, but said a large number of bikes were abandoned.

RELATED: New ‘catastrophic’ details reveal what went wrong inside flooded luxury SF apartment building

ABC7 News has learned about new “catastrophic” details into what went wrong inside 33 Tehama luxury apartment building in San Francisco.

We also followed up and asked about the resident who said her checkbook was stolen and they said that’s a police matter.

Statement from Hines about 33 Tehama – August 16, 2022

“It has come to our attention that on August 15, 2022, a contractor who was making repairs in one of the units at 33 Tehama was recorded taking items from the unit. This contractor was terminated immediately. All construction workers at 33 Tehama are licensed, bonded, and insured, and are employees of reputable subcontractors. We have security on the premises 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and the safekeeping of our residents’ belongings is our utmost priority.

There are very few allegations of other issues with security in the units. While we haven’t confirmed the validity of these allegations yet, we have temporarily removed all contractor access to resident units while we work on a solution to increase security measures. At a minimum, these measures will include a comprehensive video monitoring system to capture footage while contractors are in residents’ units to safeguard their property in an active construction site.

When we learned that the timeline for reoccupation of 33 Tehama would extend into 2023 and notified residents that they would need to find alternate accommodations, we began working with city officials and local building ownership to secure housing for our most vulnerable residents, which include residents in the 60 below market rate (BMR) units at 33 Tehama. We have had success with the city who responded promptly to the request. We continue to work with local building owners to identify housing solutions for these residents. We are hopeful that San Francisco building owners with vacant BMR units will agree to support these 33 Tehama residents at this time by offering them housing.

Given that the financial and accommodation support for 33 Tehama residents ends tomorrow August 17, we have extended the financial and hotel accommodation support to tenants who meet certain income qualifications until August 31. This is to ensure that they have the resources to secure temporary housing while we continue to work closely with building ownership and in partnership with Supervisor Dorsey and other government officials to find a longer-term solution. “

In February 2022, Mayor Erin Mendenhall touted plans by two biotech firms to open labs on the west side of Salt Lake City, at the renovated and celebrated INDUSTRY SLC building.

Recursion President Tina Larson was “thrilled” to be expanding into the Granary District building, she said in a news release issued by the city. Denali Therapeutics CEO Ryan Watts said he was “excited” to open a “state-of-the-art biologics clinical manufacturing facility” there.

Since then, neither company has moved in — with both blaming construction delays. Denali Therapeutics terminated its lease earlier this year, while Recursion is locked in litigation with the building’s owner, Industry Office SLC.

The absent labs are two of several projects across the city tied to the work and uncertain fate of general contractor Makers Line, which has deleted or set to private its web page and social media accounts in recent days as employees announced their goodbyes on LinkedIn and described the company as closing. Subcontractors have filed liens and lawsuits — with a flurry of at least five more this week — claiming they haven’t been paid by Makers Line or concrete company Titus.

Makers Line and Titus are two of an “integrated suite of companies” under developer Q Factor, owned by the husband-and-wife team of Jason and Ellen Winkler. The Winklers made a splash in Salt Lake City as they began reclaiming the cavernous foundry building that became INDUSTRY SLC, after developing similar projects in Denver’s River North Art District, or RiNo, a transitional area now turned fashionable.

But as Makers Line has gone silent, Jason Winkler has not responded to requests for comment from The Salt Lake Tribune. Reached last week by Building Salt Lake — which reported first on the company’s layoffs and possible shutdown — he said in a text only that Makers Line did “not quite” close down entirely.

Here are some of Makers Line’s projects in Salt Lake City and what’s known about their status.

Chicago Street Townhomes

(Rick Egan | The Salt Lake Tribune) Chicago Street Townhouses, one of Makers Line’s projects under construction on Chicago St. and South Temple, on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2023.

Q Factor is the owner of the Chicago Street Townhomes project, a planned 30-unit subdivision off South Temple that was approved by the city in 2021 and, as of two weeks ago, was being developed according to schedule.

But designer Jarod Hall hasn’t heard from Q Factor in a week, he told The Tribune. Hall’s firm, di’velept design, designed the units and submitted applications to the city on Q Factor’s behalf. Hall said everything seemed “fine” in a weekly check-in meeting with Q Factor two weeks ago — the companies even discussed future projects they might work on together. But since news of Makers Line’s potential closing, Hall hasn’t been able to reach anyone.

“It’s totally out of left field,” Hall said.

Hall said his team has been paid for their portion of the work so far. He doesn’t know what will happen to the town house project, which, for now, is in limbo. But he said he is “nervous” about what Makers Line’s departure could mean for the city.

“The problem is, we’re going to have about 20 Sugar House holes throughout the valley,” Hall said, referring to a plot of land in Sugar House that sat demolished but undeveloped for years.

(Sheila R. McCann | The Salt Lake Tribune) The Atre Sugar House development, which contractor Makers Line has been working on, is planned to include a complex at 1121 E. Ashton Ave. with 228 units.

Atre Sugar House

Two residential towers are planned on Ashton Avenue in Sugar House, with an eight-story building adjacent to Fairmont Park and a larger 10-story complex across the street, where a 24 Hour Fitness gym once stood.

The complex at 1121 E. Ashton Ave. plans to offer a mix of 228 studios and larger units with one, two or three bedrooms, available at market rates.

The smaller building at 1132 E. Ashton Ave. will have 113 microunits, studios to two-bedrooms, which “will allow people of lower incomes to be able to afford something in the Sugar House Business District,” the Sugar House Community Council has noted.

Kova, an interior design and supply firm in Austin, Texas, is working for Makers Line on the project, according to its website. On Tuesday afternoon, two Makers Line trucks were parked at the sites and a banner declared them a Makers Line and Alta Terra project.

But no work was underway. Alta Terra, a real estate investor and developer based in Park City, has not responded to multiple requests for comment from The Tribune.

If construction is delayed in Sugar House or elsewhere in the city, there is no limit on how long a pause could last, said Salt Lake City Council Chair Darin Mano.

“I don’t know of any city rule or ordinance specifically related to this,” he said. “In practice, we tend to see projects in this state sit in perpetuity.”

A site where construction has halted “still needs to be secured and safe,” Mano added. “When construction begins again it would need to be re-permitted and inspected and anything that has worn out due to weather exposure would need to be replaced.”

The Granary District

(Rick Egan | The Salt Lake Tribune) The INDUSTRY SLC building, at 650 S. 500 West in the Granary District, in 2021.

The INDUSTRY SLC building, at 650 S. 500 West, has become an anchor in the burgeoning Granary District and is owned by Industry Office SLC, according to property records.

The Winklers are minority owners of Industry Office SLC, according to Recursion’s lawsuit, with Catalyst Opportunity Fund as the company’s majority owner.

There have been more than 20 liens filed against the property by various subcontractors, according to city records, including one filed Oct. 31 by White Cap, a building materials supplier. Many have been later resolved and released, but roughly 10 are still pending.

Across 500 West from the INDUSTRY SLC building, a seven-level parking garage is in mid-construction.

Mendenhall was back in the Granary District for the groundbreaking of the garage in May 2022, KSL reported. The city handled some pass-through funding for the garage, said Andrew Wittenberg, a spokesperson for the mayor.

In a statement issued Thursday, the mayor’s office said, “we never want to see a company struggle or fail. The city is aware of some projects which are utilizing new general contractors to stay on schedule. Salt Lake City Building Services staff members are always available to assist with technical questions to ensure projects with new leadership can still move forward without delay.”

County records show some of the land where the garage is being built is owned by Industry Office SLC, but the bulk of the area is owned by AAM Investments Ltd., which the Utah Department of Commerce lists as a limited partnership based in Salt Lake City.

A year ago, banners on the fence around the site advertised Makers Line, Q Factor and their related companies, according to Google Street View. This week, those banners were gone.

North of the area, Q Factor has also been a partner in projects in the developing Post District.

Denali Therapeutics

Denali Therapeutics, a biotech and pharmaceutical company based in San Francisco, says it has moved on from the Granary District. It had signed a lease for space at INDUSTRY SLC in August 2021, the company said in Securities and Exchange Commission filings, but there had been construction delays.

In March of this year, Denali Therapeutics said, it terminated that lease. In April, it signed a new lease for a lab, office and warehouse space, it said in filings, elsewhere in Salt Lake City.

The company did not respond to requests for comment. The website Intelligence360 has reported that the new site is on Amelia Earhart Drive, near the Salt Lake City International Airport.

Denali Therapeutics does still have an incentive contract with the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity, the office confirmed, for up to $1.3 million in tax rebates.

Leah Hogsten | The Salt Lake Tribune Recursion Pharmaceuticals, a biotechnology company, opened its headquarters at The Gateway in Salt Lake City in 2018.

Recursion

Recursion hired Industry Office SLC to construct a shell of a manufacturing facility — which Industry Office would own — and when it was done, Recursion would become a tenant and build out the interior, according to court documents.

But after construction delays, each company began accusing the other of breaching their contract, according to letters filed in 3rd District Court in Salt Lake City. Industry Office sued Recursion in June and Recursion filed its own counterclaims in September; all are still pending.

Industry Office SLC has accused Recursion of trying to breach the lease and avoid liability; it wants Recursion to pay fines for terminating the lease early. But Recursion argues Industry Office failed to execute essential components — most crucially, a three-hour firewall that would separate Recursion’s lab from its planned neighbor, Denali Therapeutics.

Such a wall “effectively separates a structure into separate buildings,” providing three hours of protection in case of an emergency, Recursion explained in court documents, a safety feature required by its research and manufacturing.

Recursion also accuses Jason Winkler in court documents of misrepresenting the building’s progress, lying about having relevant permits from the city, and lying about the delivery of steel that — at that point — hadn’t even been ordered.

In a pivotal meeting in January, Recursion said in court documents, its executives met with Catalyst co-founder Jeremy Keele and other company leaders without the Winklers, described as Catalyst’s general partner.

The Catalyst representatives said their relationship with their general partner had become ‘toxic’ and resembled ‘Armageddon,’” Recursion attorneys wrote, “and they admitted that Industry Office had terminated the General Partner from the project for ‘gross negligence’ and ‘willful misconduct’” related to repeated construction delays.

Describing the meeting from the other side, attorneys for Industry Office wrote that “attendees for Recursion emphasized that their issues were with Winkler and his entities.”

Keele, Catalyst’s co-founder, told the Recursion leaders, “There must be a way to resolve your issues and get this back on track,” the attorneys wrote, “I feel like we’re on the 90-yard line and it would be a waste to pick up the ball and go home.”

Charles Jabara of Recursion, the filing said, responded, “I wish we were on the 90-yard line, we feel like we’re not even in the game.”

Industry Office SLC, its attorneys, Catalyst and Maker’s Line all declined to comment or did not respond to requests for comment. In a statement to The Tribune, Recursion declined to comment on the dispute, citing the litigation. The company said it “remains committed and excited to continue its growth here in the Beehive State and is actively pursuing alternative options for further expansion.”

Ogden

Ogden officials halted work in March on a 55-unit apartment building that Makers Line’s companies were involved in constructing — after the city found some of the lumber didn’t meet the fire code, the Standard-Examiner reported.

The five-story Union Walk project at 144 25th St. has been sitting idle since, according to the Standard-Examiner. The city most recently issued a notice on Oct. 12, giving the developer, Summa Terra Ventures, until Dec. 11 to resolve the problem.

Summa Terra’s CEO, Mike Watson, said in a statement to KSL that “Makers Line unilaterally made the decision to substitute fire-treated lumber — as originally prescribed in the contract, the approved building plans and the prevailing national building code — with untreated lumber.”

Two companies also claim, according to court documents, that Makers Line owes them money for work done on the Union Walk project. Bingham Plumbing and Mechanical claims Makers Line owes more than $106,000, plus interest, for plumbing and mechanical work and equipment, while Bear River Heating and Air Conditioning is seeking more than $64,000 in compensation — claiming Makers Line has failed to pay them for materials, equipment and labor for the same project.

Q Factor’s website also touts another Ogden project, the restoration of the Ogden Stockyard Exchange building. The plans call for converting the 1931 Art Deco building’s 14,400 square feet into office space, and adding a 25,000-square-foot building onto it. The Ogden City Council approved the project in November 2022, the Standard-Examiner reported — though Mike McBride, spokesman for Mayor Mike Caldwell, told the newspaper this week that if Makers Line was shut down, “that whole agreement would be null and void.”

Several other suits filed by subcontractors also are pending. LG Concrete, for example, claims Makers Line owes it $104,194, plus interest, for labor, materials and equipment. LG Concrete and other companies also have filed liens on some of the properties where they have conducted work and not been paid, which attorney Justin Scott could expedite payment or force foreclosure.

“I’m one in a long line of attorneys representing contractors that have performed work and have not been paid,” said Justin Scott, the attorney representing LG Concrete. “It’s a difficult situation. [Subcontractors] outlined a lot of resources and money and haven’t been paid.”

August 31, 2023

Hospitality staffing platform Qwick has been sued by the city of San Francisco, which claims the company misclassifies its workers as independent contractors.

Qwick is “a staffing company with an app that is in flagrant violation of labor and employment laws business model,” City Attorney David Chiu said in a press release. “It uses convenience and flexibility to mask its decision to deny workers their rights.”

Qwick matches restaurants and event production companies with contingent workers to fill empty shifts, according to the city attorney’s office. The company provides front- and back-of-house workers — including servers, bartenders, dishwashers, cooks and event staff.

San Francisco’s city attorney says it’s legal for staffing firms to supply those workers on a W-2 basis, but Qwick provides them as independent contractors.

Qwick’s workers operate alongside hotels’ and restaurants’ own employees, according to the city attorney’s office. The company refers to its workers as freelancers and independent contractors, but they are “employees by every legal standard” since Qwick interviews them, monitors their performance, controls their eligible shifts and terminates them if they perform badly, the attorney’s office said. The city added that Qwick pays its workers directly and they are forbidden from seeking employment at Qwick’s client business where they perform work.

Qwick has been contacted for comment by Staffing Industry Analysts.

“If this illegal business model is allowed to take hold, hundreds of thousands of positions in the food and beverage industry risk illegal misclassification, and hospitality workers will be pushed into poverty,” Chiu said.

Litigation over independent contractor classification is also taking place against Uber and Lyft, according to the office.

From Checking on Google and Reading Reviews to Looking at the Company’s Social Media Website and More, this Helpful Advice Will Help Homeowners Stay Warm in the Winter and Cool in the Summer

MOORESVILLE, N.C., July 13, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Brian Pysz, co-owner of the HVAC repair company Peace Heating and Air Conditioning based in Mooresville, North Carolina, is pleased to announce that he has just posted a new blog to the company’s website that discusses an important topic: how to quickly find the best local air conditioner contractor.

To read the new blog in its entirety, please visit https://peaceheatingandairconditioning.com/2023/03/08/when-searching-for-air-conditioner-contractor-near-me-remember-peace-heating-and-air-conditioning/

As the blog notes, it is stressful for homeowners to realize that their heater or air conditioner is no longer functioning properly. In these cases, homeowners want to find reputable contractors quickly who are affordable and will correctly diagnose and fix the issue.

The first step to find a local heating and air conditioning contractor is to use a search engine.

“Type ‘air conditioner contractor near me’ into the search bar and press enter. The search engine will provide you with a list of local contractors in your area,” the blog notes, adding that first, homeowners should look for a licensed and certified contractor.

Once the list of potential contractors has been made, homeowners should visit their company websites and social media pages to learn more about their services.

Next, the blog advises, research each contractor’s online reviews.

“Check online reviews to see what other customers have said about the contractor’s service. Look for reviews on websites like Google, Yelp, the Better Business Bureau, and HomeAdvisor,” the blog notes.

“If a contractor has a lot of positive reviews, it is a good sign that they provide quality service.”

A proficient contractor possesses the technical expertise, experience, and resources to transform your vision into a tangible masterpiece. Mission Home Remodeling emphasizes that making a well-informed decision at this stage can save homeowners from potential headaches and setbacks down the line.

Assessing Your Home Remodeling Needs

Before plunging into the task of selecting a home remodeling contractor, homeowners should have a clear understanding of their remodeling needs and objectives. Whether it’s a kitchen renovation, bathroom upgrade, or a complete home transformation, defining the scope of work will help communicate expectations effectively with potential contractors.

Research Potential Home Remodeling Contractors

Begin your journey by researching reputable home remodeling contractors in your area. Mission Home Remodeling suggests exploring their website, reading client testimonials, visiting local home shows and exhibitions, and checking online reviews to gauge their credibility and track record. By doing so, homeowners can narrow their options to contractors with proven expertise.

Evaluating Contractor Credentials

To ensure the competence of a home remodeling contractor, verify their credentials. Are they licensed, insured, and bonded? These credentials are essential indicators of professionalism and commitment to the industry’s standards. Mission Home Remodeling encourages homeowners to request these documents during the evaluation process.

Evaluate Portfolio and Past Projects

A contractor’s portfolio showcases their capabilities and style.
Engaging in face-to-face interviews with potential contractors is a valuable step. It allows homeowners to gauge their communication skills, willingness to understand project goals, and responsiveness. Mission Home Remodeling suggests preparing a list of questions to address concerns and assess compatibility.

Getting Detailed Estimates

Accurate and detailed estimates are vital for budgeting purposes. Requesting written estimates that outline the cost breakdown for labor, materials, and any additional expenses is advisable. This transparency ensures that both parties are on the same page regarding financial expectations. Mission Home Remodeling follows a transparent approach to providing estimates and offers reasonable prices for the quality of workmanship and materials they use.

(NewsNation) – A HVAC technician was reportedly at the scene at the University of Idaho, and some are speculating that the technician could help with the investigation.

Veteran investigator Mike King, who hosts the Profiling Evil podcast, told NewsNation’s Banfield on Wednesday that people should wait with speculation until more information is released.

“You’re getting pretty close to the apparent end. Could it be that they are beginning to look into disaster recovery? Or maybe the heater has failed?” said King.

Murders in Idaho: Police search for white Hyundai Elantra

King, who was the head of a cold case division, says he doesn’t think the Idaho case “is remotely cold in any way.” King anticipates the students will receive more information through interviews after they return from the Thanksgiving holiday.

“That means you have to treat it like an unsolved case and start committing all available resources to support it. And this department has done a pretty impressive job of mobilizing state and federal resources to support it. “It doesn’t seem like there are any real egos standing in the way of trying to find out the truth,” King said.

On Wednesday, police said they needed help locating a white Hyundai Elantra (model year 2011-2013) that was seen near the University of Idaho crime scene.

PRESS RELEASE

Published on June 12, 2023

Bayshore Plumbers is a leading plumbing contractor. In a recent update, the company explained how to choose the best plumber.

Redwood City, California – In a website post, Bayshore Plumbers shared how to choose the best plumbing contractor.

Plumber Redwood City recommended that homeowners look up a contractor’s references. It is important to ensure that a prospective plumber is licensed and experienced. To ensure this, clients should look for relevant courses and certifications that the contractor has completed. Reviews and references from previous customers should also be taken into account. Customers should obtain at least three estimates from different contractors before approaching any company and also inquire about any guarantees the contractor offers.

Plumbing contractor Redwood City said a detailed interview should be held with the contractor. This conversation should include expectations and timelines, an expected project completion, and potential problems and how to resolve them. By knowing how the contractor addresses potential problems, you can reassure clients that the job will be done correctly.

Finally, plumbing company Redwood City mentioned that fee quotes should be compared and payment terms reviewed. Customers should verify that all costs are included in the estimate and that the estimate is in writing. Offers should be compared in detail to ensure customers are getting the fairest price and service. Payment terms should be reviewed in the contract prior to signing to ensure they are consistent and compatible with the client’s budget.

JW Hanson Heating & Air takes a big step from just a garage business.

Founded in 2005, the Santa Rosa-based heating, ventilation and air conditioning services, repair, retrofit and installation company has operated from a 930 square foot industrial condominium at 3200 Dutton Ave., Unit 225.

Then, on January 6, founding couple James and Kimberly Hanson purchased the 26,156 square foot former Bergy Door & Window facility at 3999 Santa Rosa Ave. for $2.65 million, according to public records and the Bay Area Development Company, one of the funders.

According to the announcement, a showroom, storage space, office space and a parking lot for vehicles are planned for the new location. The Hansons could not be reached for comment.

The Santa Rosa Avenue sale comes a few weeks after the nearly 70-year-old Bergy Door company conducted a liquidation sale of its trucks, trailers, woodworking equipment, tools, inventory of doors and windows, and storage and office supplies, according to a press release on the auction .

“We really appreciate serving Sonoma County since 1953 and since 2007. Personally, I have enjoyed working with all my customers and suppliers over my 29 years in the door and window industry and I will miss them all,” said Gregory Soos, owner of Bergy Door & Window Company, in the auction announcement. “It was a very difficult decision and I wish everyone the very best. I will truly miss serving Sonoma County and helping others with my years of knowledge in this industry.”

Bergy Door founder Harold Bergstrom came to Santa Rosa in 1948 and worked as a carpenter hanging doors on construction sites before starting his own business five years later, according to the auction announcement. Soos bought the company from Bergstrom’s son. Health problems in Soos’ family have led to the liquidation of the company since the beginning of last year.

Demi Basiliades of Keegan & Coppin Co. Inc. represented the Hanson trust in the purchase of Santa Rosa in 3999. Kevin Doran, also of Keegan & Coppin, represented the seller, G&L Santa Rosa LLC, led by Gregory Soos.

Walnut Creek-based Small Business Administration financing firm Bay Area Development Company partnered with Lincoln Capital Management and Harvest Commercial Capital to fund the SBA 504 program.

Jeff Quackenbush is involved in wine, construction and real estate. Before joining Business Journal in 1999, he wrote for the Bay City News Service in San Francisco. Reach him at jquackenbush@busjrnl.com or 707-521-4256.
